It's too long to read for me, longer read. I love this one than before Glee: The Beginning. This book tells us about meet foreign students Glee Club France from France visits McKinley High School America and they make friends with each other. It was amazing! 😍😍😍
Very rarely does a television show translate well into written word, but Glee: Foreign Exchange is pitch perfect. I really felt like each voice of the cast was captured perfectly and the story flowed just as well as a television script. That said, there is no music that makes this book sing like the television show. It would have been wonderful if there would have been snippets of the song available online to go with the book. As far as this being just a young adult novel, it is better than most with an easy to follow and enjoy storyline.
McKinley High is hosting a group of foreign chorus singers from France and each member of the group has unique experience with this exchange. Kurt meets people that are more fashionable than he is, Finn finds a new love, Puck's sexiness doesn't translate and Rachel meets her match. Sue has some great barbs about Mr. Shu's hair -- those quips are just spectacular! Brittany delivers several spacey one liners that amaze me. This is the perfect read for anyone who adores Glee as much as I do.
I'm not expecting high literature when it comes to a television tie-in novel. The first book released, "The Beginning", had a lot of continuity errors with the show itself but still had the spark of the characters. This book is lacking, which is a surprise as it is the same author. And there's no logic to the plot - which, well, is kind of like the show, but still...
Personal Response I enjoyed the first glee book so I thought to continue reading. I loved the plot of Foreign Exchange. Foreign exchange students from France coming to McKinley seems great, and I love Sue’s sass with the idea. I would say I can relate to Rachel’s feelings of jealousy to anyone who threatens the control position. I love getting inside the mind of the character and realizing it’s not just me who gets certain feelings in situations. The only thing I don’t like about the glee book series is that you can not really talk about songs. I love listening to glee songs on the tv show, but you can not do that in a book. I wish however Sophia Lowell would include more song titles or “weekly assignments” to get more of the music in the series. Overall, I very much enjoyed the second glee book Foreign Exchange.
Plot Summary During multicultural week Mr. Schuester remembers having foreign exchange students when he was in high school. Mr.Schuester sets up foreign exchange students from France with the glee club. He matches a French student with a glee club member to show them around but that doesn’t go well. Rachel who was with Finn takes a break. Finn was matched up with Celeste, the French counterpart of Rachel. This makes Rachel jealous and she tries to stop anything from happening between the two and to keep her spotlight. Puck is matched with Jean-Paul but wants Artie’s partner Rielle. He ditches Jean-Paul who seems to be interested in Finn and follows Artie around to get the cute French girl. Meanwhile, Kurt is attracting all the French girls with his knowledge of fashion. Puck eventually attracts Rielle’s attention with song lyrics that Artie wrote, and Puck and Rielle spend time together. One day, Celeste goes into the boy's locker room and kisses Finn. She later admits that she was “trying him out” but was not interested. The glee club goes to a party and Quinn flirts with Jean-Paul to make Finn jealous. It turns out that Jean-Paul was Celeste’s ex-boyfriend and wants her back. Celeste gets girl time with Rachel and confesses everything to her and says she wants to stay in America to get away from Jean-Paul. Rachel relieved, convinces her not to hold herself back because of a boy and they become friends. The two glee clubs perform a great performance at the party. When it is time for the French students to leave Rielle recites the song's lyrics to Artie. She knew it was him who had written it for her. Each group says their goodbyes to one another and then the French students are off back home.
Recommendation I would recommend this book to anyone who enjoyed the first glee book. You really don’t need to read these books in a particular order but you must understand situations that are described. I would recommend this book to middle school students interested in glee. I think middle school girls would be interested in Foreign Exchange. A true gleek should get a chance to read this book.
I got this and the first book from the public libary and since I already had it at home I read it eventhough I did not like the first one. Believe it or not, it got even worse. The characters are dull and do not have the depth they have in the show (and even in the show they do not have the depth they should have. The way Puck was written was a joke, not to speak of the "Cheerios". Stereotypes everywhere. Rachel is annoying, Kurt gay, Mercedes is sassy, Tina shy...good lord we know!!!! The book had only 2 things I liked. Celeste the french exchange student gave a very good summary of Finn "I can do no wrong" Hudson and Rachel and Puck where on the cover. I give the same advice I gave in my review of the first book: Save your money and buy a good book instead!
Was is particularly brilliant writing? No. Was it Glee? Yes. For that it earns 3 stars. Its subject matter is slightly above the younger gleeks. It had it cute moments, but you know what it needed? More Brit. I would love a book told entirely from her point of view.
3.5 Stars Writing Style was okay, I am a huge Gleek so I love reading these. However, I felt like each character was assigned a single trait without much more depth. For instance, that Rachel is self-obsessed and then she always thinks about how she sounds better than other people and is so much better. Sure, she is self-obsessed but she also has positive qualities! And Kurt isn’t only into fashion. Yes, he loves fashion but it isn’t all he talks about. And Brittany is really sweet, felt like they were exaggerating her traits. Story was a little confusing to me Would have loved some Brittana Another inconsistency: when Santana and Britt ditched rehearsal, it said the group missed their soprano voices. In fact, both girls are fantastic altos. Kurt’s storyline could happen. Girls might like an understanding, sensitive boy who is into fashion. But I’m European and European doesn’t automatically = gay like they said at the end.
I love Glee! It's just my thing. I love how dramatic and weird and hilarious it is. The foreign exchange is where a guy comes from a far away place which is France. There is so many plots and many twists. Everyone goes through some drama and others more than many. I love Rachel Berry and how she overreacts to everything.
This book... just... 😭 I definitely have a connection with this one. Everyone got what they deserved and Rachel Berry continued to inspire. She reminded me of my old self, a reawakening I did not know I needed.
this book was just as bad as the first one but a lot more gay. I liked that about it. Rachel & Celeste clearly wanted each other. And Jean-paul be thirsting over Finn. Anyway... RALESTE 4 LIFE!!!!
Before I start this review(?) I have to declare (again :D ) that I love Glee, I love the stories, the music and perhaps most of all Sue Sylvester. Thinking back however to my review of the first Glee book I remember thinking that this would be perfect if we had the songs. This time however I didn’t need them, the story was interesting and engaging – I love the image of seeing the French Glee kids coming over and spending time with New Directions.
It introduces us to a whole new set of characters and relationships which test the existing relationships within the group and the groups status within the school community. It’s fun seeing who these new characters gravitate too – naturally the ones you expect to not shine in this kind of setup don’t and Rachel is still trying to manipulate people to get her own way (she still wants the solo spotlight – but what else do we expect from her!). And then there’s some surprising one’s who really shine.
I think in this story the backstory is weaved in nicely making sure that we know all the bits and bobs we need to from the first season and the first book. So much so that with this one I don’t think you would get too lost if you haven’t seen a Glee episode (why?) or read the first book. However without this background you won’t get the pleasure of reading about our favourite characters and knowing that these characters speak and move in the same way as their on screen counterparts.
As I said at the start I love Sue Sylvester, the cheerleading coach – she was back on form with her mostly insensitive remarks – and mostly directed at Will Schuster's hair, just a shame she doesn’t appear until about half way through!
All this coupled with a writing style that is so fast paced and effortlessly slips from one character to another without any sudden stop – starts makes it a book that I thoroughly enjoyed and I am so pleased that there is going to be another one (Summer Break) published in July this year.
Glee: Foreign Exchange is a great follow up novel to Glee: The Beginning, and focuses on the arrival of French exchange students arriving at McKinley High. The book starts off with Mr Schuster announcing that members of a French Glee Club from Lyon will be attending McKinley for a week. Everyone is looking forward to meeting the new students, and their arrival stirs up a lot of excitement. Kurt meets his fashion soulmates, Tina connects with a shy artist and Rachel meets her French counterpart; Celeste, the beautiful star of the glee club in France. With new friendships and new rivalries, can the two glee clubs work together to pull off their best performance yet?
I really liked Glee: Foreign Exchange; the story is set halfway during season one and is a great addition to the Glee series. There were some hilarious laugh-out-loud moments in this book, and one of my favourite bits was when Puck was struggling to get the attention of Rielle, a French girl who didn’t seem to be interested in him. It was so funny watching him fail and not understand why – the line “Did his charm somehow not translate into French?” cracked me up! Sue Sylvester was her usual rude and demanding self, and her comments about Mr Schu’s hair just kept getting better and better. Brittany had a few of her famous one liners, and I also liked seeing jealous Quinn and Rachel get frustrated over Celeste, who all the boys seemed to be taking an interest in. If there’s one thing about Glee, it’s that the drama never gets boring.
Overall, Glee: Foreign Exchange was a fun, light-hearted book, perfect for fans of the Glee series. The next book, Glee: Summer Break is out in July, and is sure to be another fab read!
A French glee club is visiting the glee club at McKinley High. Can Rachel handle the competition? Why does Kurt get all the girls? Will Finn runaway to France with his new crush?
As I've said before I love, LOVE Glee and I very much enjoyed reading the first Glee novel so when this one showed up in my mailbox I had to read it ASAP.
This time the Glee kids is in for a surprise, but how will things work out when the French Glee club arrive at McKinley High? Mr. Schuster assigns each of his Glee members to a French student, they are going to show the French students around school and make sure they'll have a good time. The plot sounded great to and to some extent it was. Puck tried every trick he could think of to get a cool French girl to be his girlfriend. Rachel and Quinn both had issues with Finn getting assigned with the hottest French girl(she wasn't just hot but also a talented singer, you can only guess what went through Rachel's mind). We got to see more of Artie which was great.
While Foreign Exchange was entertaining it just didn't have the same Glee-feeling as the the first novel. Something was missing and I hope Lowell is aware of that and that the same wonderful feeling is back on paper in the third official Glee novel, Summer Break, when it hits the stores in July this year.
This is the second in the Glee book series released for young adults that I have read. It has a decent premise, but the story feels rushed and with many other books aimed for young adults written with great detail and depth, this book feels very slight, disposable, forgettable. That's a shame. The main thrust of the plot is the arrival of a French Glee club to William McKinley High and the interaction of the two groups. And that's the entire plot. Of course, there is hook-ups, jealousy, language and cultural misunderstandings, and other routine highjinks for a high school-set novel. It just didn't seem substantial. All of the French students are neatly slotted into character types that paints a broad picture of French youth. And even though this book takes place during the year Quinn was pregnant, there isn't much character growth in any of the Glee kids we do know. In fact, it felt like many just played minor roles in their own book. It would have been nice to get more into each of the character's thoughts and motivations.
For this series to succeed, the authors are going to have to start being more daring in their storytelling, more willing to create a rich and vibrant world that is complex and interesting. I hope the next book in the series moves beyond these first two books because if not, I will be moving on.
This book was terrific! I really enjoyed how, unlike the first book, this book had a theme. I like how the First book is an introduction of a bit about how it became glee and the school dance, and I loved it so much. But this one I enjoyed better because we got to hear about the Foreign Exchange students that were coming here to visit, and it was really interesting imagining new people in the book.
It was interesting imagining everyone in this book liking someone different or being friends with different people because we didn’t get to experience that watching the TV show. It was really fun and very interesting seeing how different they acted around the French students and how different there backgrounds and personalities where.
It was very nice watching them finally mix in and become one team, and that is why it was sad to see them leave.
I am really glad they made this book about foreign exchange, because we got to imagine how they acted differently. It was fascinating seeing Rachel bond with one of the French students (I won’t spoil it!) and seeing there similarities. I felt like if they hadn’t left, Rachel and _____ (I’m not going to tell you who) would become best friends.
I can’t wait to read the next book! This one was excellent! 3.5 Stars
Can Rachel Berry rock a beret? McKinley High goes international and invites a French glee club to town! In this hilarious culture-clash story, Kurt gets an entourage, Finn falls for a new girl, and Puck realizes that some suave moves are lost in translation. In this second original novel, you'll get more mash-ups, more show-mance, and more Sue.
Pro's/Con's The one con that I had with this book is that everything is kind of predictable. You can easily predict what is going to happen and how everyone is going to react to it (Puck who wants to get a girl, Rachel who wants to get rid of a girl, Finn who also wants to get a girl, Kurt shopping with girls). But other then that it is a fine book and much better then the first one. Finally something is happening and it's not even based on a TV episode so it's really brand new. That makes it a lot more interesting and I have good hopes that the next book will still be fun.
Recommend it? Yes, I would definitely recommend this book. If you have read the first one you might be doubting if you want this one (I totally understand that since it was a bit boring) but this one will satisfy your Glee cravings much better then the first one.
Definitely my favorite of the 3. This is the one that's easiest to accept as part of canon, even though it's full of original characters. Because said characters (a French glee club, led by a former exchange student Mr. Schue befriended in his own high school days - that's right! he has a grown-up friend!) are all really well done. Kurt's "entourage" (composed of 3 girls who hang on his every word about fashion, evidently unaware of his sexuality) is adorable, but I'm mostly talking about Celeste, the curly-haired-blonde French Rachel. Original Recipe Rachel is at her throat the whole time, but near the end they have a nice heart to heart and sort of become friends and seriously, this is all I ever wanted the show to give me. Quinn eventually came close, but until the very end it was more mutual admiration and respect than "let's hang out after school" friendship.
Sue has some particularly hilarious lines that made me laugh out loud, and the author finally captured Brittany's simplistic and childlike voice with dead accuracy instead of having her say snarky things with far more self-awareness than she possesses.
This was a great book. I read it in about a week and a half. It was funny yet dramatic at the same time. It made me want to keep reading and I nearly couldn't stop. The book was just like the TV show drama and all. It was full of funny lines and serios situations. All in all, I would recommend this book.
In this book foreign exchange students come to McKinley high. This causes drama within the glee club. It also challenges some relationships with the students. The characters learn life lessons and their real feelings of others. In the end everyone ends up happy and relationships are saved.
I have never read a book like this. It has a lot page turning moments and a strong plot. Every chapter is almost like a new story. This book is filled with humor and engaging stories. In some ways it's almost like a soap apera with drama, but It is also comical.

Nilai plus-nya buat gue pribadi adalah bagaimana penulis buku ini tetap stick true to the character's personality dibandingkan film serinya sendiri. Rachel masih super nyebelin dengan sikap diva dan egoisnya, Para cheerios dengan sikap angkuh dan nyolotnya, bahkan ke hobi Tina yang suka menggambar masih tetep disebut di buku kedua ini. FOr gleeks, its a good book untuk keeping up dengan segala cerita yang ada Glee verse. For non-gleeks, again, dont even bother.
*Do you like singing a song? What kind of song do you like? I like singing a song but I am not good at singing. I like J-pop and K-pop. However, recentlly I listen to One Direction and Taylor Swift.
*When you were a high school student, what did you suffer from? I always worried about my test score and record. I think my high school, my high school friends and teacher are wonferful, so I never suffer from them. However, I always worried about myself.
I tried to read thick book, but I felt very tired. so I haven't finished reading this book but I want to keep reading. I love glee, so it is very good for me to read favorite story even if it is the thick book.
I am a total gleek and I love the TV series but these books are so basic and they are lacking plot. Also, the timeline of events totally clashes with what happens on TV. A French group of exchange students has NEVER been on Glee and it's really stupid to write about something that hasn't happened. If I wasn't such a fan of the show, I would have rated this book a 1 star. It's like its written for a first grader while the TV show is directed towards a teenage audience. I don't know if I'll read the third book or not...
I finished the first one, and had to continue on. Both books (and then the third) are original stories, and yes, it did feel like reading an episode of Glee. And yes, I am going crazy during the summer hiatus. I am a Gleek, and I love the show - most specifically the pairing of Brittany/Santana - so, these books may be waaaay below my reading level, but they're helping during the horrible time of summer hiatus.
