The Inevitable

Rate this book
Some believe when we die, that's it: endsville. Others believe we go on to a better place - or not, depending.

But in this world, death isn't any of the above. Not immediately, at least.

Ghosts are an everyday thing; as much a part of life as the living. After death, one's spirit remains on the earth for ten years before passing over. So when the not yet departed begin to disappear, their loved ones want to know who is responsible.

Detective Telly Doukakas and his Clairvoyant Arini Fold are on the trail of these serial exorcists.

They'll speak to the dead and the living and even those beyond the grave to find answers, but what they find may be more horrific than the crimes themselves.

Jake McCormac is a writer, partner and father, though the latter always take precedent over the former. Jake comes from the north of Ireland, but lives just outside London with his wonderful fiancee, Clare, and their infuriatingly cute son, Max.

Jake studied languages and translation at university, and found he could create something readable from the words of others. He made a promise to himself that if he ever had an idea for a story, he would write it.

The stories here are the result of that promise and Jake only hopes they are just at as readable, now the words are his own.

Detective Doukakas and his clairvoyant Arini are trying to figure out who is responsible for a series of exorcisms. Spirits are disappearing before their ten is up and these two are determined to find answers.

I enjoyed following along with Douko and Arini as they worked to uncover who was behind the spirits departing. McCormac put a different spin on a ghost story, and I really enjoyed it. It works quite well as a short, but honestly, I would love to see this expanded on. There seems to be a lot going on in this world where people and spirits co-exist. I feel like there could be more stories to tell. At least I hope there is because I really like the vibe this one gives off.

“They screamed their fury until a maw of darkness opened behind them, sucking them through like deflating balloons.”

Thank you D&T Publishing LLC and Jake McCormac for giving us a fresh, imaginative ghost story. This is a genre that at times can seem predictable(even though I personally can’t get enough of it). McCormac makes you feel sympathy for the ghosts and he makes you want to root for the people tasked with protecting them. It’s original, and I love it.
