Bhagavad-Gita or the Song of the Divine One is a celebrated episode in the epic, Mahabharata. It is the form of a dialogue between Dhritarashtra, the blind king of Hastinapura, and Sanjaya who describes the happenings on the battlefield to the king. The Gita draws much from the Upanishads and is often described as the quintessence of the Upanishads. The positive approach of the Gita has made it dynamic but the attempts at defining the indefinable have imposed certain limitations too and hence the apparent contradictions in the Gita. This book does not claim to be an exposition of the Gita, but is only an introduction. We have also taken the liberty of interpreting some of the ideas propounded in the Gita with a view to make them intelligible to the younger age group. The first nine pages of our book are not part of the Gita but are given to provide the background to our young readers. We owe a debt of gratitude to His Holiness Swami Ranganathanada and His Holiness Swami Chinmayananda for sparing their precious time to go through the text and making valuable suggestions.
Gita has Lord Krishna's conversation with his disciple, Arjuna, on the Kurukshetra battlefield. It is a book that can change your view of life. Some of the most followed versions of Gita are complex and will be difficult to follow if you are a beginner to the world of Gita or a child. This version by Amar Chitra Katha will be a good choice for introducing you to the world of Gita.
If you are planning to gift a few books to your children, this book should be undeniably at the top of your list.
it has settled all my mind. I raised questions on people who tried to impose religion on me, but they did not satisfy me. they call me an infidel. now the gita has all I need. it's. awesome.
I have always been amazed at the lucid language used by ACT. If you want your kids to cultivate our indian values these books are such a great resource. I would definitely prefer ACT thousand times over other brands like DC OR MARVAL.
i would have given this 5 stars except that, due to my own cultural/religious ignorance, i know there was a lot i didn't/couldn't grasp, and thus missed, when reading this text. i'm not giving the text itself 5 stars, just my 'liking' of it, for that reason. 4 stars because what of it i understood, and the pure lyricality of the words, was transporting, thought-provoking, beautiful.
Very good comic, must read for young ones ... It explained the key aspects in Gita and helps build value in young minds right from the tender age. What's the point in reading Gita very late in life when all the damage is done...
Wonderful and clear representation of Lord Krishna message to arjuna. Thank you so much for excellent work represented by Amar Chitra Katha clearly depicting the message of our beloved lord. This book should be read by those who want a brief description of the events and key messages between Lord Krishna and Arjuna before the war begins.
It's explained in a simple, straightforward and understandable format to be absorbed by all ages. Gives a quick mind model for the main conflict going in the head of Arjun.
Before picking this book I was afraid, How this small comic type book which kind of made for children will contain the concept of The Gita, Now That I read it, I'm not afraid anymore, because they did a very good job. I think any kid can also enjoy this book(with a little help).
2019: I loved this comic! It was a great explanation of the backstory of the Gita. This was so much fun. If you want an easily accessible way to understand the basics of the background of the Gita, read this!
2021: This was a delight to return to. I have lent it to my brother who is starting to get into Eastern philosophy.
