Chasing Echoes

Rate this book
America is falling apart as the weaponized virus continues to rage unchecked through the country. The governments in most cities have disintegrated, and the zombie-like infected are just one threat among many as citizens have to deal with roving gangs, power outages, and food shortages.
Our disparate group of travelers just trying to get home—Disco, Jack, Leslie, and Matt—hardly know what to do with the top-secret information that just fell into their hands.
What’s worse—the discovery that their own government might have been involved in the development of the virus? Or that to prevent that information from getting out, the U.S. government has dedicated all of its dwindling intelligence resources to the task of tracking down whoever has discovered their secrets…and killing them.
It’s a mad dash across the middle of America, and only the fate of the country is in the balance.

EXCELLENT zombie apocalypse series.

Too many zombie stories get the technical details wrong, or get the technical aspects right and yet end up sounding like a cross between a Guns & Ammo article and a captains log of a cargo ship. Tarr is one of the rare ones who can tell a rip roaring yarn yet at the same time rival Tom Clancy on martial detail. I highly recommend this author.

A Great Read!!

I gave the first book in this series a four star rating. Tart is a very good writer. His characters are well drawn, very believable. His plotting is excellent. Why four stars? There are a ton of characters. It seemed like too many in the first book. By the second book I was seeing the stories of the various characters start coming together. By the third and final book they really came together. What a great read.

An important note. If you think the federal government is a good thing in its present form, you might not like this series. If you thought the Civic Pandemic policies the country adopted were good or that if we only knew what we knew now, this book might not be for you.

Thank you, Mr. Tart for writing a great, great book. If you you're ever interested in a great tour of a gridlock clam operation in Puget Sound, look me up.

oh yay, the conservatives save the day

Gag me dude. I love guns, I shoot long range and did a tour in Iraq, but this author’s politics could be a car windshield they’re so transparent. We get it, you’re not a fan of COVID or liberals. Your beliefs clouded what would have otherwise been a really good zombie series. There are a lot of really good non-political zombie books out there and this one falls short of all of them having to suffer through all of this. The liberals are stupid and lazy, the conservatives are hardworking heroes, blah blah blah. Completely unnecessary and completely unwelcome in something that didn’t need that shade in it at all.

Gave it three stars because it’s still a good story with great action that gets all tied up in a pretty bow at the end. If you’ve got an infowars sticker on the back of your tan Tacoma, you’ll probably love it.

Fantastic book.

James has done it again. I loved this novel and this series. The stories of the different characters in the novel ate tightly woven and excellent. The the gun handling and fight situations are wonderfully crafted.

You wanted adventure, here's adventure!

Started reading as a preteen and at 72 still at it. This storyline is well written and it's author has notes of John D MacDonald and Lee Childs. You could write anything and it would be interesting. Don't stop now James!

simply on of the best zombie…..

…non zombie book I’ve read. He does a great job of explaining things down to every detail. Most characters are very likable and look forward to the next book.

A thrilling adventure

In the same vein as his standalone novel, Dog Soldiers, Tarr paints a gripping picture across the country of the managed decline of a system about to be overrun by people who would make Stalin cringe. Handful of typos be damned, this was an excellent read.

good fast paced series

I enjoyed reading all three volumes of this series. James tells a great story with strong characters very action oriented with good plot twists. And he winds up every character’s story at the end. Nothing left hanging unanswered.

Great series. A wild ride

Some of the landmark descriptions - roads, cities, etc- seemed a little overdone but the story was sound. A fun read. I recommend the author’s other work titled Carnivore. No holding back, warrior stuff.

Love James Tarr! I just finished my third reading of this series. Third reading was just as spectacular as the first. Hoping, hoping, hoping for a fourth book!
