I read and used this book for a class I recently took at my nearby state university. It's a textbook that instructs on the use of a graphic design program called InDesign. The university library offered an on-line version of the textbook for free, but I had a very difficult time toggling between the online textbook and the actual design program, so I bought the textbook in paper form so that I could flip pages and use it while designing flyers, brochures, newsletters, business cards, etc., in the InDesign program on the computer.
I did better in the class because I had this textbook that includes step-by-step instructions for everything you need to know as a beginner in the graphic design world. The chapters are well-organized and the instructions are clear. The instructions include visual designs for reference. The book gives you lessons to try at the end of each chapter, and also provides a disc with images and other files in order to complete the lessons.
Overall, I felt this textbook was well worth what I paid for it (which was under $20, unlike many textbook prices that I'd describe as highway robbery).
