LinkI'd never heard of a real life matchmaker before, but grandma insists on introducing me to one and makes sure it's really real when she tells me I'm her matchmaker's new client...Normally, I'd do anything for grandma, but this is a big ask. Because I'm not ready to settle down. Not even close. I'm a twenty-something a rising star in the NHL - otherwise known as a chick-magnet.
After all the hard work and focus I got my big contract and now is my time to enjoy the rewards. No way am I going along with the matchmaking plan.
That attitude changes fast when grandma informs me her clock is ticking and her time's almost up.
And her only wish is to see me settled down with a nice young woman. Shit.
She goes on about babies, but my mind is spinning with the knowledge that I have no choice. I need to go along with this matchmaking deal for grandma.
Unless I can come up with a way to give her the comfort she wants, the illusion that I'm settled down--without actually settling down...
Those devious grannies! Absolutely could not get enough of these two! NHL chick magnet Link / Lincoln Milano gets well and truly played hook line and sinker by his matchmaking Grandmother. Delaney also gets a matchmaking grannie treatment. He thinks she’s beautiful and loses himself and his dick on first sight, he got the hots so bad that he totally missed the introductions. She is not easily impressed by him though and gives a lot of sass. She is a singer , a musician who is very good at her craft. She doesn’t need distractions or anything daft, but It’s not long though before they get to chatting and drinks flow as they’re waiting for their food , each of them giving as good as they got…“ “Now you’re my protector from evil, jealous serving wenches.” “That’s why the pirate always gets the girl.” “Dare I ask what you’re going to do with the girl now that you have her?” Food packed up and he’s pulled…. Those clever grannies know what they’re doing but this is just the start . What do they do now so as not to break their grannies hearts? They agree to live together , it does make sense but that agreement they had to fake date? Just until after the engagement then slowly fade it to nothing and they go their own way…Just went out the window but who’s going to confess to real feels first before they burst with frustration.Wonderful stuff, raw , sexy ,heartfelt and sexy. A lotta heat ,just how I like it . Beautiful! Well written with great eye to detail, awesome descriptions, first class dialogue and great humour as well as good head of steam a reader’s dream of a book with plenty of ….well sexy scenes. I loved this soo much! The banter is top shelf too. Brilliant writing by Stephanie Queen . I am leaving my review voluntarily in my own musings and my own words.
Link Milano loves his grandma. She’s 90 now and has him convinced that she may be not be long for this life. So when she sets him up with a matchmaker, he agrees reluctantly. Delaney Collins also loves her grandma, who has set her up too. When the two keep the date in NYC, where Delaney lives and Link is playing, the chemistry is off the charts! These two cagey old ladies continue to throw the two together, until they decide to fake their engagement. What could go wrong! Seriously, a sometimes LOL romcom with hockey, hot hockey players, their beautiful women, and plenty of steam! You’re going to love this book!
This was an ARC read, and really enjoy the chemistry between Link and Delaney, and book was very entertaining, and Stephanie Queen thanks for the laughs. Also, enjoyed the Bonus Epilogue, and giving the book a closure!!
Tricky Puck by Stephanie Queen, book four in her Portsmouth Whalers series is a wonderful, amusing fake relationship romance between two anti-marriage people that will have you laughing out loud.
Hockey star Link Milano loves his grandma who has convinced him that she may be not be around for too long. So when she sets him up with a matchmaker, he agrees reluctantly. Singer/songwriter Delaney Collins also loves her grandma, who has set her up too. When the two keep the date in NYC, where Delaney lives and Link is visiting family, their chemistry is off the charts; with sparks flying. These two quirky, meddling grandmas are hysterical. They continue to find ways to throw Link and Delaney together, until they decide a fake their engagement would work to their advantage, calling the shots, and pleasing their grandmas. Link tries to focus on his hockey career, but Delaney is finding her way into his head, or is it his heart. I loved Delaney’s snark and sarcasm; labeling Link a pirate on their first date. Filled with lots of humor, major steam, magnetic attraction, and instant chemistry that sizzles and burns, this was an enjoyable story; one that was difficult to put down.
I voluntarily reviewed a complimentary copy of this book.
Could a fake fiancé turn into a real one? This page turner will definitely make you want to keep reading to find out. Link and Delaney are set up on a blind date by none other than their matchmaking grandmas. Their grandmas have their reasons for doing so. How will the date go? Link is a hockey player and Delaney is getting ready to write songs. Neither really has time for a relationship.
When Link and Delaney meet, they get along well. It seems like they have good chemistry. As time goes on, it seems like sparks may be flying for both of them. It isn’t until they are several hours apart and something happens where Delaney is that Link comes to her aide. She than goes to stay with him, but at first she keeps him at arms length. When a certain event happens, Link reevaluates what he wants in life. Does this involve Delaney? Wait til you find out. What connection do Delaney and Link’s grandmas have? That’s not much of a shocker!
This book was great fun. Ms. Queen certainly took the fake fiancé trope to its logical next step, and mayhem certainly ensues. Both hockey star Link and singer/songwriter Delaney have quirky, meddling grandmothers who are anxious for great grandchildren - those grannies are both such a hoot! - so they each hire a professional matchmaker. Starting with their first date, the dialogue between Delaney and Link is energetic and amusing - he is described by her as a pirate, a discussion that recurs throughout the story. The "will they/won't they" vibe nearly reaches the level one finds in a mystery story, and really kept me engaged. And some of the situations they find themselves in are off-the-charts intense as well as incredibly amusing. This story would make a fun movie, and I am glad I had a chance to read it.
I was given an ARC and requested to write a view, which I was happy to provide.
Link and Delaney are both huge commitment phobes but they both love their grandmothers who set up a matchmaker to match them up together. They think they’re gaming the system but not letting their grandma’s down by fake dating but then it gets a little too real when the feelings set in.
This book was so cute and hot and pretty funny. Great spice from the very beginning! I honestly was not sure how it was going to wrap everything up going into the last few chapters, I was thinking surely it would be a cliffhanger or something but I was wrong it was so well done and fit the story and the couple very well. I can’t wait to read the books before this one in the series and I hope the next book is Jason, he needs some settling down.
Never underestimate a grandmother's love or their meddling ways. Lincoln and Delaney are determined to stay single and live their lives on their own terms until they meet their "matchmaker." Their chemistry is undeniable, and with their grandmothers plotting, they are forced to live together. It's only a matter of time before fake turns real. Will hockey or love win or both? Will they win each other’s hearts, or is the Stanley cup the only thing on the line for Lincoln?
What there is of it I really liked. However, it goes from meeting the family at a game to the end of the book in the blink of an eye. I wondered if there was a problem with the file downloaded to my kindle it was so abrupt. I usually love Stephanie's stories but there was no relationship development at all. So much potential. I loved the characters and I really would have liked to have seen their love evolve over time. Watching them learn to live together would have been fun, a big, missed opportunity. This reads like an insta-love novella not a fully thought-out novel.
I love the fake romance trope and Stephanie does an awesome job on this one. Lincoln and Delaney are set up by their grandmothers through a matchmaker to become engaged or married. Both do not want a relationship but find themselves attracted to one another. He’s concentrating on his hockey career to win the Cup this year and she’s into her songwriting so they are denying their relationship but going along with it being fake. This is the fourth book of the Portland Whalers. It’s a fast, wonderful easy read and I’m looking forward to Stephanie’s next book. She is definitely one of my favs.
Fake dating at its best! I was patiently waiting for Link's story. I loved reading about Delaney and Lincoln and their scheming grandmas.
The two fake engagements just to please their meddling grandmas, which works until the end when they both realize they have feelings for one another.
Part of it felt a little rushed, especially the end but overall, still a great story. I wish we could have found out if Delaney ever got to sell one of her songs or not.
Overall, I gave it 4 stars. I'm a sucker for hockey romances and enjoyed their story!! Can't wait to see what comes next!
I Love a good sarcasm battle and omg these two with their quips had me laughing so much. I couldn’t wait to read Link’s story and it totally did not disappoint. He’s the macho I’m not going to settle down type and she’s the same. I love that the chemistry they had totally lit the pages on fire. I am so happy I got this! It was just what I needed to read right now! I will definitely read this one again. Can’t wait for her next book!
I have enjoyed every book in this series. I don't want it to be finished. This story is well written. The characters, their personalities & development are smooth & believable with a nice HEA. Of course, I've ordered the extended ending, and I can't wait to download it. The proofreading & editing are spot on. I look forward to more of Ms. Queen's writings & definitely recommend this series.
Sarcasm at its best, waiting to see who wins between two fake daters. This will leave you laughing out loud wondering how two grannies came up with the matchmaking idea. Two anti marriage people pushed together for a fake relationship that somewhere along the way crosses the line. Couldn't put it down to even eat while reading.
Stephanie Queen Tricky Puck: a Fake Fiancee Hockey Rom-Com (Portsmouth Whalers Hockey Romance) Link and Delaney I loved this awesome LOL rom com! These two were so determined to not fall in love, that their slide was fun to watch. I received a free copy of this book and am voluntarily leaving a review.
Received as an Arc, loved the chemistry between Link and Delaney. What's two people who adore their grandma's going to do when the two decide to play matchmakers.
When your grandma hires a matchmaker, you have to go, right? Link and Delaney truly are the perfect match, but while fighting feelings, they will just fake it for Grandma.
Love for a grandma has no boundaries right?! Link and Delaney are set on a blind date by their grandmas. These grandmas want them engaged and married asap. Hahaha. But Link is a one night stand kind of guy and Delaney just committed to go after her dreams and be an independent girl. They have instant chemistry and the sparks fly all around. His friends see it as real as it is too. Great fast and adorable read. Tks Stephanie!! 😘
Link's grandmother wants to hold great grandchildren in her arms. She hires a matchmaker to find him a wife. The meet is set up at an expensive steakhouse. He's an NHL player and has no problem finding women. His "match" is beautiful, but they don't hit it off. Except that they find each other incredibly hot. This book is the antithesis of a slow burn. Everything is very fast moving.
In January 2025, I was able to listen to the audiobook version. The narrators were great.
The book has explicit sex so it may not be for everyone. But if you want a super sexy, studly hockey player with an equally hot and responsive woman, this is the book for you.
