I could get lost in this author’s writing style and pacing, it made me lose track of time. The world-building was expertly crafted. I was instantly immersed in this magical world. This was a fantastic coming-of-age story. You watch Sol grow throughout the book as she navigates through unexpected twists and even figures out her feelings for Robin and Creasy. The author has created some of my favorite characters. I had so much fun getting to know them. I am so excited to see what new adventures come next. Archmage: Farewell to the Old World takes readers on an epic journey filled with magic, fantasy, prophecy, and destiny. Authors Christopher Dodson and Christina Dodson have created an imaginative world with fascinating fantasy elements, such as visions, dangerous tribes, and an impending volcanic threat, setting the stage for an epic adventure. The excellent worldbuilding immerses readers in a fantastical realm, with interesting elements like the White Forest and the Kiran and Arrowood Kingdoms. This is an incredible backdrop across which the story unfolds.
From the very start, the novel shines with its dynamic plot, well-paced narrative, and compelling character development. Sol and Robin, share a complex relationship, torn between their arranged marriage and Sol's feelings for Creasy. This interplay of emotions adds brilliant tension to the story from the get-go, making the character’s journeys very engaging. The exploration of different tribes and their unique characteristics add to the worldbuilding, creating a vivid and immersive setting.
As the story continues, we delve into the characters' relationships, struggles, and resilience. Themes of family, love, duty, and sacrifice are explored, building up on the initial setup. The worldbuilding also expands upon the Kiran and Arrowood Kingdoms, as well as the Nox tribe, making the world feel bigger.
One of my favorite aspects of this book is how it excels at creating memorable characters, each with their own distinct personalities and motivations. Sol's internal conflict and growth as she navigates her feelings for Robin and Creasy make her a compelling protagonist. Robin's emotional journey and his strained relationship with his father add layers to his character. Creasy's loyalty and willingness to sacrifice for others endear him to readers. Supporting characters like Balder, Alysia, and Destin also contribute to the great ensemble cast.
This is a fantastic read that excels in its imaginative worldbuilding, great characters, and emotional impact. If you enjoy a fresh take on classic fantasy, this is definitely worth a read.
A cleaver takes on a young adult coming of age tale with magic, adventure and the journey of a lifetime.
This story centers around Sol our FMC and the Princess of Kiren.
Sol.’s journey begins exploring an island that is under the threat of volcanic collapse. Soon there is intertribal conflict. High stakes and more.
Add to it the romantic entanglement of an arranged marriage to Robin and Sol’s feeling for Creasy complicating matters.
This book has great world building for a wonderful coming of age story.
I got this book originally for my daughter age 8, she’s a sensitive kiddo so this book was too adult for her at this time but I feel in the future it will be a great read for her.
Overall for the age range it’s intended and the fantasy story it is intended I would give it a solid 5⭐️ and while there are romantic feelings expressed and arranged marriages I would say this is maybe 1/2 🌶️. As more daughter ages and the series grows I would definitely get another book.

This novel is an absolute delight. From the very first page, I found myself thoroughly captivated by the main characters and deeply immersed in the vivid world the author has so skillfully crafted. The writing style is both accessible and fluid, allowing for a seamless reading experience that never feels overwhelming or difficult to follow. I particularly appreciated how the plot unfolded with a natural rhythm, maintaining just the right amount of tension to keep me eagerly turning the pages without ever causing undue stress.
What sets this book apart is its grounded approach to storytelling, exploring real, relatable themes in a fantasy setting without straying too far from reality. The balance between the challenges faced by the characters and their thoughtful problem-solving is exceptionally well-executed. It strikes the perfect chord, blending moments of conflict with resolution in a way that feels both satisfying and insightful. I would highly recommend this book to anyone who enjoys fantasy with flair—one that doesn't lose touch with real-world emotions and experiences.
I love the world and characters in this book. Sol and Robin are well-rounded, and the weight of their engagement within politics on the island and keeping peace is well done. I loved seeing things from all angles, and it helped me grow acquainted with the hierarchy and belief system.
The Nox are interesting. Dipping our toes into their territory was cool to see, and I can't wait for more in the second book, considering Kali has been built up to be a prominent figure in the story this series is telling.
The impending doom of the volcano was as well paced as the entirety of this book, and the tragedy was almost tangible toward the end as we saw it take out characters we've come to know and love. This journey Sol, her family, and the two boys she loves has just begun, and I can't wait to see where it takes us.
This story really has great potential to be incredible. I loved the connection between the main characters, Sol and Robin, as well as the tension thrown in from side characters. I love the world building in the story: having characters povs from each tribe really helps to give depth to each tribe and helps you to connect with them.
The reason for the three stars is due to some editing issues that should be addressed: dialogue was sometimes unclear and had to be reread to understand who was saying what, sometimes a character would leave a scene and then magically reappear without explanation. I still recommend giving this story a shot if you are able to overlook those details.
I recommend this book for ages between 12-15yrs old. It would be a great story to keep the reader engaged and wonderful for life lessons to teach an avid reader student. I think this would be a great selection for any high school. A world of three diverse tribes that have different cultural traditions and practices and through disaster they have to learn what's more important. Any parents who are looking for books for their teens, this would be a perfect find. It has a bit of romance and suspense and adventure with great imagery of the world created.
This book looked at cataclysmic event and turned into a rebirth. I was looking for something new and was sent this book to check out. This book, while targeted for YA, had enough to keep me intrigued and going back to pick it up when I had a few spare minutes.
Sol, a princess with the ability to see bits of the future, is betrothed to Prince Robin of the neighboring kingdom. Both of them, and their people, have to be careful not to be taken by the Nox people. The stressful part? They all live on a volcanic island that decides to "wake up" and send its rumblings of impending doom and destruction.
Character and world building had a great amount of detail that allowed me to visualize the characters roaming through the forest, experience the battles among the different people, and feel the destruction that the erupting volcano unleashed.
If you are looking for an uplifting apocalyptic story, this would be a good one to start.
Two betrothed teens find themselves stuck between a rock and hard place. The rock: the fact that their island is in trouble. The hard place: their families and tribes hate each other. Tensions continue to rise between their families despite the betrothal in place to help smooth things over. However, the two teens actually get along very well and are more focused on the visions of the island being in danger and both tribes needing to evacuate or perish. Will both sides work together or will their fighting continue as greed and sabotage take over at the worst time?
Archmage: Farewell to the Old World follows the journey of Kiran Princess Sol, who possesses the unique ability to see into the future. One day, Sol has a vision that alters her life and the lives of those around her forever. As she embarks on a dangerous adventure, navigating inter-tribal conflicts and exploring a magical island that may soon vanish, Sol must use her powers to save the people she loves.
An epic tale of adventure, magic, and love that will leave you breathless. The author has created a rich and detailed world filled with captivating characters and an intricate plot that keeps you engaged from beginning to end. Sol is a powerful and inspiring heroine, and her journey is both emotional and exciting. The exploration of the magical island is described in breathtaking detail, and the inter-tribal conflicts add an extra layer of tension and intrigue to the story.
You follow three different tribes in this thrilling story. Will they learn to work together and all survive? The FMC is Sol she has visions of the future. She needs to find a way to save her people before they lose everything. The characters are great. The storyline was easy to follow and not confusing. It is well written. This is a young adult or teen book. My teenage son can not wait to read it as well.
This is an amazing read. Easy and quick (if don't keep getting interrupted, that is) "family life, what can you do?" It has a little bit of it all. Love, magic, fantasy, and enemy to friends. I absolutely love the fact that there are very vivid descriptions of the creatures and people. I can't wait to read the next part.
I’m not much of a fantasy/magic reader. But I thoroughly enjoyed watching the characters develop and grow. Very well written characters, adventure, world building and twist. Watching the development of the characters not only makes you fall in love with them but also leaves you wanting to read the next book.
This book is a young adult magical adventure. There is great world and character building, very descriptive that helps with the imagination. Very captivating. I would recommend this book to all fantasy lovers.
