Survival into the 21st Century: Planetary Healers Manual

Rate this book
Viktoras' pioneering work is considered by many as a "New Age Bible" in the holistic and health field. Although written 27 years ago, it was the first holistic book to be published with medical journal references. Viktoras popularized Dr. Ann Wigmore and wheatgrass. He discovered Sunflower Greens and Buckwheat Lettuce and brought them to the mainstream. Within the book, a few of the most outstanding features are: insight into practical spirituality and dietary/spiritual relativism; development of positive mind set 99% of the time; how be free oneself of menstruation; a new paradigm of cancer - theory and cure, as proven to work successfully at the Hippocrates Health Institute and transition back to the land orientation; love, tantra and karma.

Within the book, you will learn how to heal yourself from the full spectrum of illness and degenerative disease - from cancer and arthritis to heart disease and the common cold - by the use of living foods. Find out how to experience the esoteric realities and bliss of the universe, the energy of divine love, as proclaimed by the ancient masters. Various forms of yoga and meditation are thoroughly covered to attain vibrant health and perpetual youth. Food combining, super foods, vitamin and mineral content, calories, enzymes, water, wheatgrass and sprouting are all defined in very simple terms. Cooked food vs. raw foods, as well as various types of diet are discussed to achieve optimum nutrition, including sproutarian, fruitarian, vegetarian and macrobiotic lifestyle choices. The book also covers the many methods of fasting, with advice on how to prepare and experience a cleansing of the body.

The father, mother and child chapter touches on pregnancy, childbirth and how to raise the youth to achieve their fullest potential. A large amount of alternative therapies are included. Physiognomy, iridology, zone and color therapy, massage, acupressure and healing herbs are all supported by amazing testimonials.

I read this book when it first came out in the seventies, and boy, is it funny looking back on it now. Nevertheless, the book was amazing for its time and opened me and many others up to the amazing power of a vegetable-centric diet and things like wheat grass juice.

"When we eat any kind of food, we are actually eating color from the sun."

Oh, ok. But what sealed the deal for me was,

"With the coming famine, oxygen shortage, and fuel shortage, we will all be forced to become ascetic yogis in order to survive."

Which comes as kind of a relief to me.

The cover image says it all! From descriptions of how to grow sprouts while meandering across a post-apocalyptic desert to the benefits of fruitarianism and fasting, it's all here. My born-again Christian aunt in Australia had a copy of this book leftover from her former hippie days; accurately, she sensed that I might eat it up in the midst of my "I just dropped out of college never to go back," explore-the-alternatives phase. I went back to school, even got an MBA, and this book still delights me.

this guy is a total loon. the title was in reference to his own goal to survive that long. He is one of those 'extended life' followers I read about in Wired magazine. Just got this in the mail. Peter Max did the cover. I can't wait to read chapter 5.,"mucus and its causes"

I have owned this book on four different occasions and I always seem to give them away. It is a book that is so full of very specific information that you would have to get many books on each individual subject to learn about these things in depth. Viktoras has compiled this information in a very non clinical and enjoyable format with very beautiful illustrations that the whole book is a light hearted read from cover to cover. Since 1982 this book has been my go to bible for all things holistic and healing and I always make sure there is one close by wherever I am from now until I give this one away and by another. Thank you Viktoras

During the late 1970s, I read the literature of Herbert Shelton and other raw foodist advocates, whose writings informed me but did not inspire me. This is the book that inspired me in 1977 to adapt raw foodism. Enough said? No, not quite.

Great that it has been reprinted and reprinted, but 40 years later the same multitudes of typos and grammatical errors of the 1977 book persist in the 2017 book. Hence only 4 stars.

You know when you see a movie that's so bad, it loops back around into being good again? That's this book. There's one illustration that sticks out in my mind that implies doing heavy drugs, knife/gun violence, sexual abuse and eating a roast chicken are in the same category of bad. I remember reading this with some friends when I was about 11 years old, laughing until we had tears in our eyes.

This book introduced me to the concept of Breatharianism as also made me question a lot of daily actions. Interesting reading. Many radical thoughts. Today I have a more practical inclusive philosophy.

Great book on how to transition to a better, healthier way of life... I read it years ago... now re-read and applying many principles...

This book is a bit crazy... Certainly the chapter on breatharianism: sunshine for food, and the general prose and preaching from the author. However, it has great instructions on sprouting, yoga, fermenting, recipes, juice fasts, etc.

I wouldn't read it cover to cover, use it more as a guide. Also there are 2 versions: my boyfriend's mom has one from the 80's (which we originally read and loved) and a more recent one. The only thing I've noticed is that the new one doesn't have the amazing "Yolk of the Cosmic Embryo" juice recipe! Simply amazing. Try to get the older version.

This fascinating book I read when it first came out in 1976. It inspired and guided me in personal experiments in raw food and fasting. I now am a vegan who normally has cooked food. On the ground that nutrition losses in some foods because of cooking temperatures are made up for by gains in nutrition availability in some other foods when they are cooked, such as potatoes, rice, buckwheat, etc. And it is still more convenient for me to use cooked wheat as bread or spaghetti instead of trying to sprout a sufficient volume of wheatgrass year round.
