Some curses aren’t meant to be broken. Some beasts won’t be tamed.

Quinn is the rightful ruler of Rosewood, but he refuses the title in favour of another—monster. Only able to maintain his humanity for a few days each month, he spends most of his time deep within the forest, devouring everyone and everything that crosses his path. Until the beast within him spares not just a human girl... but his sworn enemy.

Abby is the oldest princess of Lunae—yet she will never sit the throne. A fact she’s perfectly fine with. After a lifetime of abuse, she flees the only home she’s ever known in search of freedom. That hope is shattered when she’s attacked by a vicious creature and soon finds herself the guest of a forest kingdom… and a prince who is anything but charming.

Ash and Roses is a Beauty and the Beast inspired enemies-to-lovers fantasy romance.

I thought that it was so slow especially in the beginning and it turns out that it is part of series and not standalone with no info about a second book or whatever. I hate it when they are not mentioning it somewhere.

I received an ARC in exchange for an honest review.

The author asked if ratings below 3 stars could wait until after the book is live. However, after reading this book, I really feel it's not fair to any potential readers to hide any negatives. Besides, one person's negatives might be another person's positives.

The good:

This is a very easy, quick read.

I wish I had more "goods" to list, but it really ends there. The premise of the story has good bones, but it really needs a personal trainer because it's incredibly out of shape.

The bad (I'll keep this as gentle as I can while still being honest):

The FMC is unrelatable in every sense of the word: a walking contradiction and a childish, immature, superficial brat who wouldn't know true inner strength or love if it bit her in the ass.
The love interest(s)/romance is thin, childish and rushed.
The author really needs to do research on: malnutrition, fighting with daggers and whippings (yes, /that/ kind).
The author really needs to practice "show don't tell" and feed the readers 10x more information and descriptions than what is here.
The book feels like speed-running a video game - and that's not a compliment.
The FMCs romantic nickname is incredibly cringe.
The plot "twists" are either cliché AF or so weak as twists they might as well be plot holes.
The "sacrifices" instill nothing in the reader, as the story is so rushed and thin that you really can't bring yourself to truly care about any of the characters.
I have no problems with Fated Mates, but one human girl getting TWO in one story is just so badly YA that it's worse than a regular love triangle.
This is described as a Beauty and the Beast re-telling, but it reads like one of those poorly animated (and even more poorly written) cartoon movies that are just trying to ride the monetary coat-tails of larger, successful films.

This story has a lot of potential, it really does, but it needs more time, energy and creativity. It's a solid first try, but definitely not publishing ready.

Tl;dr this reads like it should be on Wattpad

This is my first N.B. Snook book and I NEED MORE NOW!!!! I am FERAL for Abby and Quinn, I need book two and book one isn’t even officially out yet!

This story is beautiful, it’s heartbreaking, it’s fast paced and I loved everything about it! It was a great length for a first book in a series and that cliffhanger had me obsessively tapping my nails on my kindle with all sorts of emotions.

Fantasy can be intimidating - there’s usually all these different names and cities and creatures and made up words that can get confusing and frustrating, but this is a world that is magic without trying to be fancy (but just ends up confusing.) I didn’t want to leave the world that Noel created and I’m so sad I read it in a day.

Now excuse me while I go have a cry at that ending and attempt to be patient for book 2.

This book was addicting and I had to keep reading because I had so many questions and needed to know what happens. And I am SO UPSET with the ending because I need more. Okay attempting to write this with no spoilers because I would hate to ruin it.

This is a beauty and the beast inspired book but you guys, there is more than one beast, a freaking love triangle that is killing me (normally I hate them and I cannot believe a certain someone is still alive), and the fated mate aspect can be rejected as lovers but still have the connection - obsessed. I would like more detail with the character and world building, I was trying to remember details and wished there was a little more, but I have a feeling the next book will go more into detail. Especially with how Abby’s dad became so vicious towards her, more about the Marked, and what happened to the other Kingdoms. But it’s safe to say I’m ready for the second book because there is definitely a storm brewing and I can’t wait to see who ends up on top.

Ps spice was very minimal but honestly I was way more into the story anyway it was a good balance.

Thanks to the author for my ARC!

Also can authors please stop killing some of my favorite side characters? Thank you, I hate how much you all keep breaking my heart.

Listen I’m always down for a beauty and the beast retelling or inspired book but for me Ash and Roses was not it.

We start off with Abby, a princess that has a rough life. Her father doesn’t like her, her younger step-sister thinks she’s better than her and her step-mother hates her. Abby flees from her kingdom but was attacked by a monster and soon finds herself in a different kingdom. The prince Quinn was cursed to become a monster and only live in his human body for a few days a month.

This book started off slow to me, of course we were getting introduced to the world and the characters but it just felt like it was dragging on. Once we got to where Abby got attacked and ended up at the kingdom the “beast” or Quinn resides in it did a whole 180 and the pacing was fast. One minute I was reading about how both Abby and Quinn couldn’t stand each other and the next minute they were all over each other and then the next minute I find out all of the people in Quinns kingdom turns into werewolves(?) and that Abby is Quinns Mate(?) and then dragon people were pulled out at the end of the book(?) I honestly did not expect anything in this book which I guess could be a good thing but it just was not for me.

I was excitedly chosen to be an ARC reader for this book, that was a great experience. The author hyped up the book well and I was really looking forward to reading and rating this book.

Unfortunately, I think I made it 15% through the book before I turned off my kindle and never picked it back up again.

The pace of this book was fast, too fast. Scenes were not fully developed, I was confused on what other characters were doing/thinking. It felt very linear. The author was focused on the main character and who she was talking to, that’s it.

I hope the author and her future books improve what she laid down as a foundation of her skills for this book.

At first it was too slow, then it was too fast, and right about the end it was nonsense. It wasn't that bad really, but I feel like it could have been better.

A fresh and exciting spin on the classic tale of Beauty and the Beast. As one of my favourite stories, I’m always excited to read a good retelling, and this sure delivered!

Abby is the princess of a Lunae – a starving kingdom who relies on the monthly lunar hunt to survive. Though the first born, she will never see the throne. Instead, she lives in the cruel shadow of her father and step-mother. When the chance to escape comes, she runs. But escape only leads her to the doorstep of the monster who has hunted the woods of her kingdom for the past 5 years.

This was a fun story that I devoured in no time. My only complaint is that I wish it were longer! I wish we had more time to see Abby grow and gain her strength, I wish we had more time to see her relationships develop. And I wish there weren’t so many unanswered questions! But hey, that’s what book two is for!

If you’re a fan of SJM or JLA, you’ll enjoy this fun take on a classic tale.

I received this book as an ARC in exchange for an honest review. All thoughts and opinions are my own.

⭐️⭐️ARC REVIEW⭐️⭐️

First I would like to thank N.B. Snook for allowing me to read this ARC ❤️ 🌹

I don't even know where to begin as this book had me hooked from the very first page. It's easy to read and has a great pace to it, along with a great storyline . The characters are good but I'm hoping that in book 2 they will be more developed as it felt just a bit rushed, but I love them and need to know where they go! (plus their banter is fantastic❤️)

If you love a good retelling this book is for you!
Beauty and the beast with a twist!!!

This is an honest ARC review.

I really enjoyed the premise of this book, I feel one cannot go wrong with a re telling of a classic.
A negative for me was I wish there had been more explanation of time passing while Abby was with Quinn, it came across as though it had been mere days and already declarations of love were thrown around, I get its a mating bond but even that was, in my opinion, glossed over.
Interesting twist thrown in with the mating bonds though!
Spice was 1 out of 5.
Some of this reminded me of Blood and Ash by Jennifer L. Armentrout
Overall i enjoyed it, I read it all in one sitting and would definitely read the next instalment.

I started this before the end of 2023 in an attempt to finish my reading challenge but I failed haha. The book was short and the premise intrigued me a lot so that's why I started it. Plus, it is a Beauty and the Beast retelling, I meannnnn. However, 2023 finished but not the book lol.

So, in this story, we find our main character Abby who lives in Lunae, a poor kingdom with a ruthless king and its people starving to death. Abby has been a prisoner in her own home her whole life. One day, she flees her home in search of freedom and finds Rosewood, where Quinn, the rightful heir to the throne, tries to live with his curse. For the past years, he has fought against the monster that lives inside of him and, day after day, he has started to feel less human. Until he meets Abby.

This was supposed to be an enemies to lovers with a lot of tension. However, they were definitely "enemies" but just because both of them were insufferable and argued for no reason. I do see why they "hated" each other but still. Their banter sometimes was nice but most of the time it cringed me, to be honest.

I didn't connect with both main characters either. Abby seemed stupid and so did Quinn. By the end of the book, I started to like them more but they still pissed me off most of the time. Something that didn't help me engage with the story itself and the characters was the writing. It felt plain and I couldn't empathise with the story because it didn't feel close.

Now, focusing on the good things in the book. As I said, the main idea of the book is really good and the plot is really intriguing. The final plot twists were not too wow but still, the end made me want to read the second book, so that's a good sign.

Also, the side characters were really good, especially Ruben and Tess. I loved them so much.

As I said, the end made me want to read the second book so I will be patiently waiting for the second book to come out and I will probably give it a chance.

Do I recommend the book? Yes. It's a very intriguing story with sometimes annoying main characters but with an enjoyable banter. So, if you need a quick fantasy read with wolves, dragons, and enemies to lovers, then you should definitely give this a chance.

Btw, as I didn't find any playlist for the book, I made one of my own so I'll leave the link below in case you want to check it out:

ARC review. SPOILERS

I think if the book didn’t feel so rushed I would have enjoyed it more. I struggled a bit to want to finish it about halfway through. Overall I’m glad I did because I feel the end redeemed itself and I’ll definitely keep an eye out for the second book just to see what happens. As stated at the beginning of my review, the story felt rushed. I did not feel that there was enough character development to really get an idea of the main characters personalities, which led to me feeling unattached from them. Also the time frame that the MC spent in Rosewood was confusing. It really didn’t feel like she was there long at all, but then she stated that it had begun to feel like Rosewood was her home etc. She went from being “devastated” about the deaths of her friends to falling in love with a stranger within a matter of a day or two it felt like. Even with a bond, it felt rushed and all over the place.

*** I received a free copy of this book as an ARC in exchange of an honest review***

2.5 rounded up because I love a good Beauty and the Beast retelling.

The writing and world building was very decent, and the story - fast paced. I would have liked for the characters to be more developed and the description of the time Abby spent with Quinn more detailed, so that it would not seem that they fell in love just few days after meeting each other (I know, I know, fated mates and all, but, still). In fact, all of the relationships seemed underdeveloped and rushed.

I would not have minded for the book to be twice as long if it would give me some well-rounded characters and fairly developed relationships.

Anyway, it shows promise and I am looking forward to reading the next book in the series!

I enjoyed the characters, and the view point swap from Quinn & Abby.

I received an arc and this is my honest review.

A&R released on KU yesterday- sorry this is late!

“You’re not the monster you think you are. Be the king I know you to be.”

Ash and roses is a beauty and the beast inspired book with a sprinkle of spice. It’s fast paced and has a host of fantasy elements that slowly reveal themselves as the book goes on. I won’t comment on the actual creatures in here though because some of them come as a surprise! I genuinely thought a character was one thing and found out later they’re something completely different. The ol’ bate and switch got me good.

Abby our fmc, (we don’t call her by the Sunday name, she doesn’t like it!) is the princess of Lunae. Though she’s the older sister, she’s been passed over to be queen in favour of her half sister, Arabella. Abby has a soft heart, she wants to do what’s right for her people. Even if it means defying her father’s wishes and paying the price for saving their lives. Her people may be starving but Abby refuses to stand by and watch them be punished for trying to keep themselves alive. I know, I know, kings/fathers in fantasy books are either horrid or dead. This book is no exception to that, her Ma passed away and her father is an arse. But Abby is nothing like them, if anything, she just wants to be free.

When Jade offers her an opportunity to leave- albeit she’s kinda forced into this by her ladies maid Teagan, she follows him and doesn’t turn back. She runs. Wherever he goes, she’s going right with him. Running just isn’t that simple with her father’s creepy commander not far behind, though. We don’t like him, he’s an arse.

Add Quinn, his painful back story a whole wad of secrets that are about to be revealed and there’s so much drama to loose yourself in. Can she convince him to let her stay? Can he truly open himself up to anyone after what he’s been through?

There’s so many twists in this book and it is super fast paced. I wish things had been explained more in places but it wasn’t a fatal flaw. I’m ngl though, it took me a beat to shift into the writing style of this book, it’s a dual fpov but I think it’s more to do with how it read. I liked it though! It’s an interesting read and I’d rec it for anyone who wants something easy.

ARC Review:

4/5 stars
2/5 spicy

Ash and Roses is a Beauty and the Beast retelling. It has some dark themes, and the trigger warnings at the beginning of the books should be minded if you’re sensitive to those topics.

The kingdom of Lunae is struggling to provide for its people. Their only source of meat is the monthly Lunar Hunt, and it is one of the only times Princess Abilene is allowed outside of the castle. But she’s not at ease with how her father rules and provides for his people. The “hunt”, if it could be called that, she likens more to a slaughter than a hunt. But this Lunar Hunt goes awry when a wolf moves to kill Abilene…saved only by an arrow fired from a Marked. Through a series of twists and turns, Abilene ends up running for her life in the very woods she’s always been told were too dangerous to enter. She doesn’t make it far before she encounters the beast, and she’s the only one to survive the attack.

Abilene wakes up in an unfamiliar bed with unfamiliar people in the room with her. Not knowing if she can trust these people, she tells them her name is Prin and that she’s a lady’s maid to Princess Abilene who died in the forest when the beast attacked them. Abilene thinks she’s safe from the beast here, but is she really? Will the beast really not enter the village?

When Prince Quinn arrives back to his kingdom, Abilene demands to meet with him hoping to take refuge in his kingdom from those who hunt her. But Prince Quinn isn’t the hospitable type of Prince, and he wants Abilene gone from his kingdom this very second.

Can Abilene win Quinn over and convince him to let her reside in his kingdom? Just when she thinks everything is settled, those hunting her come knocking and send everything up in flames. Now Abilene has a choice to make— her freedom or the innocent lives of the people in these village she’s been hiding in.

DNF - this just felt like it was going to be such a slow burn. The character has a thing for Jade the marked guy but my suspicions tell me she’s gonna end up falling for the commander who is a literal POS. Based on it being an enemies to lovers trope. So I don’t know how I’ll be swayed into thinking he’s a good character.

I was 87% in, when I started thinking that this book might have an open ending or alot of unanswered questions, until I did my research, and realised that there's more books! I'm so excited!!

The plottwists up till the end of the book, was mindblowing and the story took a turn I did NOT see coming!

Now I NEED to read the other books! 🙈

Whooo boy did this book need an editor. Lot of grammatical errors and some rough characterization. I was also super hoping for more monster romance and less werewolf.

Was it very good? No. Will I still read the next book to find out how it ends? Probably. If it doesn’t cost me money.

Ash and Roses
ARC review.
First I need to thank the author for giving me the opportunity to read and review her book. I personally think that books are treasures that come from your soul and treated this one as such.
Ash and Roses is inspired by one of the most beloved stories ever written “Beauty and the Beast”. That already makes this a winner for me. Overall, the story is fast paced and very entertaining. There’s darkness, curses, magic, love and fantastic creatures that contribute to a very interesting plot line. However, I feel there’s something missing, some facts and storylines are open and lead the story in one direction to immediately take to another one. I hope that is because this is a story to be developed as a series which I would love to read. With this in mind, Ash and Roses is a promising story.

✨ARC Review✨

I don’t even know where to begin writing this review. This book was amazing! It had me hooked in the first chapter. Beauty and the Beast is my all-time favorite Disney movie. My wedding hashtag was a spin-off of Beauty and the Beast, just to prove my point. It has a slight ACOTAR feel, too. It was like a grown-up version of Beauty and The Beast with more action and some spice. The banter had me laughing out loud several times. If I didn’t need to sleep or care for my house, I would have finished this in one sitting. I saw the percentages ticking down as I was reading and kept thinking to myself, “NO, it can’t end on a cliffhanger.” It left me wanting more, and I can’t wait to read the next book! I will reread this book at least one more time, and I’m going to recommend it to everyone I know! I'm ready for book two to be out now! 😂

ARC Review

After reading the first few chapters I was hooked. The author put a unique twist on this beauty and the beast retelling and the storyline was easy to follow. I fell in love with the characters and can’t wait to see how their stories end.

However I do wish the characters were more developed and we had more insight behind their relationships. I felt like some of the details were rushed in that aspect. The spice level was low but I feel like this will increase in the next book. This book ends with a cliffhanger that leaves a lot of potential for an amazing second book in the series.

ARC Review: This is my first time to read a retelling. Overall I enjoyed it, it was a fast and easy read. I finished it in 2 days because I can’t put it down. I rated it 4 because I think the author could have spent more time developing Quinn and Abby’s love story. For me it felt rushed. I’m still looking forward to the second book though!
