The Five Seals is the fourth book of The Legend of the WInged People, a science fiction-adventure series with fantasy overtones by Alessandra Coco. In the first book, The Conspiracy, we meet Pam (Pameluna) and David, our teenage protagonists. Pam has a mysterious origin, having been given to her “parents” by an ancient Inca after the death of their own child at a clinic in Peru. David is a high school klutz who feels out of place wherever he goes. They are thrown together on the island of Crete, kicking off an adventure that will span multiple countries and time zones while being chased by a criminal and an assassin.
Shortly after she and David have begun to allow feelings for each other to grow in Paris (at the end of Book 3, The Shikazi Karaka), Pam is kidnapped, setting up the action of The FIve Seals. With the aid of art thief Victor, who previously had been chasing the young pair to steal a portion of a map (The Torn Map - Book 2), David is able to get to Peru, where he believes Pam has been taken. He also receives financial support from a high school classmate, and personal support from Sofia, a young woman he and Pam meet while in Athens.
Now to The Five Seals. This is easily the most emotional book of the series so far, and I felt “gutted” when I finished. There is the full range of feelings from hope to despair, from love to hate, from humor to terror. In this book we fully meet the chief antagonist, Zalarkas, a character with many evil deeds to his credit. He is the one who first wanted Pam dead, but now he wants her alive for an even more sinister purpose - legitimizing the position among the Shikazi Karaka that he had taken through murder. In order to get what he wants, Zalarkas will continue to kill and manipulate, going so far as to drug Pam while the two are alone in his room.
In the meantime, Victor and Mary Anne have caught up with David and Sophia, and the four begin to make their way to the mansion where Pam is being held. But it will not be easy, as they have to traverse the jungles of the upper Amazon region and deal with guards who have “shoot to kill” orders for anyone who enters the area. At the same time, Pam’s father and David’s family, who were kidnapped in Crete by agents of Zalarkas, are attempting their own escape.
Coco is an amazing writer, and she builds the tension in a way that you feel your heart pounding as you almost force yourself to continue reading. You know something terrible is about to happen, and you don’t want to see it (one scene near the end of the book in particular), but you have to know what happens. Her characters are fully developed, and you laugh and cry along with them. Also, be ready for some massive revelations! Just know that there are numerous potential triggers in this book, and the end will leave you drained and hoping Book 5 comes soon.
I was honored to be given an ARC copy of this book, and these are my honest thoughts about The Five Seals. If you have not read any of the series, start it right now!
The book is compelling, twisted, and action-packed.There are people with hidden and mysterious demeanour.
The book begins right where book 3 ended. Pam was abducted in Paris while David and Pam were trying to solve the mystery of medallion and torn map and were also trying to find Professor Kanakis. Pam’s odyssey has become perilous. It takes her to Peru. While, Zalarkas, the leader of the Shikazi Karaka seems to have a mysterious demeanour. He devise a plan to acquire all the five seals to open the entrance of the lost city. Pam gets tangled in a complex web of deceit, secrets, manipulation, her origin, power struggle, betrayal and the mystery of Medallion.
While David, Fred, and Sophia are trying to find Pam. Fred goes missing and the secrets of imperial family and lost city also unveils themselves. There is a rumour about Pam’s Death due to drowning and Cindy is trying to find her husband. The book has twists and turns and it’s action packed. The odyssey is filled with dangers. The revelations at the end shook me. The book was so unpredictable and it encapsulates the mystery of Pam’s parents too. Will this perilous journey change their destinies forever?
So far, this is the best book in the series! More information about the characters was revealed! And so much action and twists and turns in the story! I highly recommend this!
