He sees a vessel by which to purge himself of an amalgam of detestable emotions. This was splatterpunk-errific. Tons of disgusting and putrid moments as our lead, Jacob, carries out his own obsessive research on parasitic organisms on unsuspecting victims. If you're in it for the gore factor, you'll be pleased. Lots of bugs and killing and really nauseating sexual encounters. However, if you're looking for something that has some sort of consistency, this won't be your favorite read. For instance, why would Jacob eat the parasites before knowing how they would fully affect his body, even before he was done with his experimental patients? Why would he go to all that effort to abduct and infect Irene and Franklin, only to kill them before the experiment was done? Things like this kept rattling around in my mind throughout. Not terribly distracting, but there were a lot of things like that, needing to be fine-tuned to make the story flow a bit better. I also really felt like Jacob was underdeveloped, as we got a quick introduction to him, some minor tidbits later on in the story, but never fully got any type of explanation as to why he was so obsessed, enough to become a bloodthirsty killer. Again, just lots of gaps and consistency issues, but the violence and gross out factors were top notch. The premise was great and, again, Jacob, was a really fun character.

Absolutely loved this one. Was gross from the outset, only got more and more disgusting, although somehow was quite steamy too, while there was bugs absolutely everywhere. Fantastic body horror, while not lacking in the extreme either.

A butterfly flew at me after finishing this book and I clamped both hands over my mouth.
I've always had a sensitivity to the idea of some kind of infections diseases etc taking over the world. This book...is my worst nightmare but told in such a way that you're invested in the progressions and relationships.

What can I say about this...
I'm still at a loss for words as I keep checking for parasites/worms in all of my bodily fluids. 😲 This was a quick read because you just don't want to put it down. Great characters and... Erm... Just some disgusting, foul, filth. Loved it

I have been a huge advocate in the “We Want More Rowland” campaign, so why did I leave it so long after buying this book to get around to reading it!?! 🤦 It’s vile! It's nasty! It's bugging brilliant!

On discovering a dying animal, Jacob doesn't help it, or even put it out of its misery, instead he takes it home to investigate the cause, to try and understand it, and the parasites within. For its the parasites that fascinate him the most, and this fascination that carries him into his career as a doctor of all things parasitic….

On starting his new job, he meets Andrew, who is keen to show him the latest discovery, which is admittedly fascinating, but Jacob feels that the best way, surely, to research the parasites, would be in a human host. But just where is he going to find a willing subject, when that course of action is neither possible, nor legally viable….?

That doesn't stop him though, he's nothing if not passionate and thorough in his research, and he continues to make all the necessary preparations….

He's about to perform his biggest experiment yet, and as enthralled as he is by this, it's still not enough for him, he wants to take it one step further, he wants to play a bigger role, and to sow his seed far and wide. He fears the worst after a struggle with a couple of his subjects, and becomes determined to try and speed up the process, with increasingly gruesome outcomes.
They become stuck with parasites that are able to control their host, to make them do whatever they want, but their curiosity soon overrides their fears and they continue the experiment. Once everything is set in motion, nothing will stand in their way, and eventually they become quite attached to the parasites residing with them.

With short, sharp chapters, very detailed and descriptive imagery, and a smooth flowing narrative, this is a highly addictive and unputdownable read. Full of horror, blood, gore and so many bodily fluids, it's utterly horrific and disgustingly glorious. It will have you itching and squirming so bad, you won't be able to sit still the whole time, and maybe for quite a while afterwards. It’s vomit inducing and made my stomach do so many flips and turns it got it’s own gymnastics medal! 🤢😂 It's also as steamy as it is vile, and it gets pretty damn vile! 😉

Leaves you wondering just who are the biggest parasites….?

Rowland Bercy Jr. writes the best body horror I’ve ever read. With Dr. Parasite, he outdid himself. The research and craft he used in melding medical terminology and science into his fiction made this book a compelling piece of science fiction as well as a disturbing work of horror. Great characters, fast and interesting plot, tight prose. I’ve enjoyed all of Rowland’s work, but this one is my favorite so far!

Expect to read about plenty worms, parasites, blood, guts, faeces, rot and the odd sprinkling of killings in this short horror quest to find the perfect symbiotic relationship between a human host figure and their internal, slimy, extremely aggressive alien creepy-crawly invaders.

And all the while lust and love appears to win through in Jacob's scientific quest for fame and fortune.

Romance may well be in the air, but perhaps appearing only after eating (raw meat).

Read and enjoy - plenty of grossness all 'hole' over the place.

Rating: 3.8 stars of sick, grubby action.

You want something gross, vile, disgusting, and all around a wild ride..look no further!

Jacob is a scientist who is excellent in his field of work...which is parasites. Instead of squirming at the critters, Jacob wants to help reproduce them and find them a great home. He gets a job at a laboratory where they do experiments on animals, they add parasites to them and see how long the animal can host it....but that's not enough for Jacob. He wants to be the ultimate host to them.

This was crazy! Lol straight vile and gross but it was so good! From disgusting, to cannibalism, to a sweet love story between 2 men, what more could you ask for? The writing was great and you could tell the author took time into looking at parasites. Some descriptions were very well written! If you have a very strong stomach, I highly recommend this! If you have a weak stomach, I still highly recommend this! Lol I need more Rowland in my life!!

Firstly, what the actual fuck did I just read? Rowland Bercy Jr.’s Dr. Parasite is equal parts grotesque, fascinating, and downright unforgettable. Parasites being voluntarily imbibed? Wild. I couldn’t look away even though I was constantly gipping my way through the pages.

This book takes body horror to a whole new level, blurring the line between science, obsession, and stomach-churning terror. It’s not just shock for shock’s sake, it’s smart, inventive, and proof that extreme horror can crawl under your skin (literally) and stay there.

Rowland created a book that was both sick and depraved. I had to take a shower afterwards due to feeling dirty but this is one of his best works. I put it up there with Duncan Ralston’s Woom. It made me feel the same way. The book is very graphic and detailed and made me feel like I was actually there with the characters. I could not put it down once I started because I had to know what was going to happen next. I highly recommend this for any extreme loving fans.

I almost DNF this story due to my utter disgust with parasites. Why did I read it then? Because not much else gets under my skin and disturbs me.
It took me a couple days to finish due to being thoroughly disturbed and grossed out by the subject matter.
I usually read while I eat.
But not this one. Oh no.
You’ve been warned.

This book was...interesting to say the least.

It was written really well and very descriptive, so unfortunately, I could picture everything. Wasn't so bad until later in the book. But I knew going in and especially by the cover, I'd be in for something icky.

We meet Jacob who studies and researches parasites and is one of the best in his field. He decides to run an experiment and it goes down hill from there. For the rest of the world anyway. For him, not so much. He clearly has an obsession with these things and decides to use his body as a vessel.

This my first read by Rowland Bercy Jr. and I think it's my first body horror novel as well. He did a really good job with his medical terminology. Not that I know anything about that stuff but it seemed legit to me. The author clearly did his research.

So all in all, I give this book 5 stars because it was gross, descriptive and the plot was on point.

Lives up to its name, in squirming, grotesque goodness!

This is my third book by the amazing Rowland Bercy Jr., and I'd have to say it's my new favourite of his! What a ride!
We follow the life of Jacob as he makes way from a high school nerd, into a clever uni nerd who masters in the study of parasites. When he lands his first real job at a research lab, he meets Andrew and things goes south really fast!
This is one hell of a disgusting book; you can almost smell and taste the vile corruption emanating from the pages; Rowland really knows how to turn gross up to 11!!!
Needless to say, this is not a book for everyone, but if you like your horror extra festering, with lashings of gooey putresence, then you should most definitely get your hands on a copy of Dr Parasite!

The descriptions alone will have you gagging. The imagery will have you wishing to never see a worm again in your life. This was a full complete ride from start to finish. Well thought out with so many amazing elements of filth but somehow also having a sweet little story underneath. I love the queerness of it, the Cardi B reference that had me cracking up, the descriptions that made me think of those mango worm removal videos I love to watch so much. The scenes that made me go FU Rowland for putting me through this but also had me cracking up with the random sprinkle of comedic genious to give me some comfort from the ickyness. Did I mention the descriptions are super VIVID and will have your body cringing in physical disgust??? if anyone has watched Contracted and remembers that maggot scene with the girl and the guy having adult fun- This is worse 🪱🪱🪱

Man, parasites creep me out, and this book messed me up. Extremely well written and hard to put down. It was gross, vile, and uncomfortable. Made my skin crawl. Some unforgettable scenes that will stick with me for some time. Excellent read. This is the first book of Rowlands I have read, but it will not be the last! Check it out!

A story that is both spicy and squishy, repellent and attractive. Dr. Parasite probes the annals of helminths and humanity to create something new, and the results are no less sickening than the journey to achieve them.
