CLUES TO YOU is a contemporary story with lots of mystery that I was pulled in to from the very first page. I loved everything about this beautiful story and I’m excited to recommend it to my reading friends. Claire Huston has a way of grabbing her readers and she never lets us go. CLUES TO YOU is the third book in the fantastic Love In The Comptons series and is a wonderful murder mystery.

CLUES TO YOU starts off at a 1930’s murder themed Victorian manor house party. Kate Brannon is so excited to be attending her first murder mystery weekend. That is until she sees Max Ravenscroft! When Kate finds herself forced to work with Max gathering clues, could her life get any worse? Well, what do you think is going to happen? Do they stay enemies or is it possible to become friends or something more? No spoilers from me! Read CLUES TO YOU! You won’t be sorry, I can tell you that!

CLUES TO YOU is filled with twists and turns! I had to know where Claire Huston was taking us and what would happen to Kate and Max. There is so much heart in Claire’s writing that I was left with a huge smile on my face and my heart filled with joy! All of the characters are very interesting and believable, so much so that I felt as if I’ve known them for a long time! I am now a Claire Huston fan and look forward to reading all of her books in the future! Claire writes with such a passion that I couldn’t read fast enough! My only problem when I finished reading was I wanted more. I didn’t want it to end!

I received a complimentary copy of this book from the author. All opinions expressed are my own and were voluntarily given.

“Clues To You” is a delightfully fun and entertaining Agatha Christie-esque novel set in a modern environment with lovable characters and a unique setting. It’s obvious that the author Claire Huston, has a deep rooted love for Christie and traditional murder mysteries and very much like her hero, Claire has an ingenious and inventive talent for story telling and plot creation, that you itch to solve together with the characters ongoing sleuthing.

I loved that the story was set in modern times but also based in a 1930’s murder themed Victorian manor house party. I’ve always enjoyed mysteries set in the 20’s and 30’s era and much like the “Tommy and Tuppence” series of Agatha Christie, I felt this had a similar ambience, as Kate and Max used their amateur detective skills to solve the fictional murder.

The romantic undertones and bouts of light hearted comedy, in particular from Bella’s wonderfully endearing character made this such an entertaining and engaging story. The combination of romance and murder mystery was just perfect and flowed together seamlessly.

I really did enjoy reading “Clues To You” and could easily have continued turning the pages for days more! I didn’t realise this was the third in the ‘Love in the Comptons’ series since it read perfectly as a standalone but since I enjoyed this book so much I’ll certainly be planning on reading the first two - the characters are simply divine and I have literally fallen in love with Claire’s beautiful and imaginative writing.

Murder mystery meets romance in this cosy read

All the stars for this incredible read which mixes a perfect blend of cosy mystery and romance. It is utterly absorbing from.page one with the central characters off to do some super sleuthing at a murder mystery weekend involving a large cash prize for anyone who successfully solves the murder. The central female protagonist Kate is skilled at solving clues, has a quirky dress sense and feels her only true competition lies with her nemesis Max, who just happens to have arrived at the weekend. Their verbal sparring and tension creates a deliciously exciitng "will they/won't they?" enemies to lovers trope which had me zipping through the pages. This has been such an pacy, lighthearted and thrilling read. I absolutely loved it and cannot wait to read more from this author. #cluestoyou #clairehuston

Kate Brannon is looking forward to attending a Victorian themed murder mystery weekend set in a real manor house with her friends after what has been a difficult few months. A long time fan of solving mysteries, Kate is quite the sleuth and is excited to try and win the contest – and the prize money is nothing to sneeze at either. But her confidence flags with the arrival of Max Ravenscroft, the fourth member of their team, and her nemesis as far as sleuthing is concerned. As the mystery gets underway however, they are forced to work together and Kate begins to think that working with him isn’t all that bad and they make a rather great team. But as they find more and more hints that the game is being intentionally rigged against the players, will they be able to find the killer in time?

💭 Initial Thoughts: I didn’t sign up for many of the finalist blog tours this year due to this never ending reading slump, but when I saw this one, I knew I had to read it. It sounded like such a cute read just from the synopsis and even though rom-coms are not my typical go to, I was very excited to read this.

🌎 Plot, World building & Atmosphere: Quite coincidentally, murder mystery live games are something I’ve been meaning to try and have been researching recently, but haven’t come across one that’s convenient yet. So this book was twice as fun for me as it went into quite a lot of detail about the game and how everything was set up. I loved the setting of the Victorian manor house and all the actors playing the roles of the family in the story definitely added to the atmosphere.

✍🏻 Writing & Narration: This was a fast paced read throughout, and there wasn’t a single dull moment. I think the writing was a major part of why this story was as good as it was – I was at the edge of my seat so many times throughout the book before I recalled that this was a fake mystery in a competition and the characters were in no actual danger. Still, some of the side plots did make me wonder if the author was going to take things in that direction after all.

👥 Characters: Kate was an interesting character to follow. She was highly lacking in self confidence at the beginning of the story and though it seemed to take forever for her to learn to stand up for herself, she got there eventually, and it was lovely how Max and her best friend Bella helped her with that. I also really liked the slowly developing romance with Max, it was very sweet, although kind of predictable at times.

There were only two things I didn’t enjoy as much about this book, and both were character related. The first was that we didn’t get to know much of the other teams or players at all, and there were points in the story where I had to remind myself that this was actually a competition because it revolved almost completely around Kate and her team. It would have made things more interesting to have some friendly rivalry between the teams, or competing to find clues, perhaps.

The second was bringing Kate’s ex Paul into the plot. He seemed plenty irritating even off page when other characters were discussing him, and there was really no need to bring him in, not even to give Kate and Max arc a push – that plotline was already headed in the right direction anyway. All it did was add unnecessary distraction from the murder mystery itself and annoy me to boot.

🎬 Ending: The ending was absolutely brilliant. While it didn’t have the same air of suspense or thrill as an actual mystery novel would given how many angles the reader has seen the whole thing from, I loved seeing Kate come up with a solution with only minutes on the clock, not to mention that last minute twist.

❓ Final Thoughts & Recommendation: Fake mystery or not, this story had me completely glued to the pages, waiting to see who the culprit was and how the competition would end – I can definitely see why this won BBNYA last year! Highly recommended for fans of mysteries and rom-coms!

Romance, mystery, and drama collide for a wonderfully entertaining story; it’s fun and wise in equal measure completely sweeping me up in the whirlwind goings on at the atmospheric manor which kept me guessing right to the end.

The well-plotted storyline is as unpredictable as its brilliant cast of characters! There’s humour, heart, and a seemingly unsolvable (fake) murder. I really enjoyed the writing style; it’s warm, clever, and so well paced. I loved the tone Kate’s voice brings to the narrative; as everything unravels from her perspective it adds to the authenticity as twists and turns are revealed through her eyes and the reader experiences it right alongside her.

As we meet Kate and Max we see their “frenemies” status as competition and personalities clash. I relished their interactions; the way Kate reacts to him, the growing playfulness, and meaningful talks they share.

Terrific characterisation, they feel like real people and each character brings something different to the story fitting together like the perfect jigsaw. Kate’s personal growth shines through which was a delight to see as she learns to value herself and to put her own needs first. Friendship is also an important theme and I adored the one she shares with Bella and the support and understanding underpinning it.

As unexpected guests arrive and with an array of misunderstandings and strange goings on, can Kate and Max work together to crack the case, and maybe discover something more along the way?

Clues To You is a joy to read; an inviting tale that draws out the emotion whilst engaging the reader to play detective and follow the clues where ever they may take us – get your sleuthing hat at the ready!

Clues to You is the 3rd book in the Love in the Comptons series, but each book is a standalone story with some of the characters crossing over. This was a very unique storyline and I loved it. Kate Brannon is a huge mystery buff and in the past enjoyed attending mystery parties where they all played roles and solved a murder. Since a few people moved away, including her, she hasn't done one, but is now attending her first murder mystery weekend in a movie-worthy Victorian manor house. She is there with her best friend, Bella, Bella's fiance Evan and her nemesis, Max Ravenscroft. She plans to make the best of it and work with her team, but as Max and Kate work together to solve the mystery and win the $50,000, they discover that they both had the wrong idea when it came to each other.

This was such a fun story. I love mysteries, but seldom figure out the culprit. Kate is one smart cookie. She sees things others don't, puts clues together in interesting ways and is able to deduce and insinuate better than others. She is also a primary school teacher who loves her job, is caring, fun and easygoing most of the time. Max is handsome and brooding and it is hard to tell what he is thinking. Also smart and able to deduce things, he sometimes misses the obvious. He keeps his feelings close to his chest and doesn't open up easily. Watching Kate and Max get to know each other was enjoyable, and seeing them put together the pieces for the mystery impressed me. The secondary characters were written. Bella and Kate had a wonderful friendship and everyone needs a BFF like that who will go to bat and stick up for you. Clues to You is a mystery, a story about friendship, self-esteem, personal growth, trust and mystery all with a touch of humour. I loved this one and recommend it to those who enjoy a good, clean, fun, mystery, romance.

Kate is attending her first murder mystery weekend and to say she is excited would be an understatement. She is ready to put her detective skills to the test and win the prize money. But Kate doesn’t expect to see her nemesis Max there who is also a super sleuth. But when circumstances change Kate and Max have to work together. Will Kate and Max solve the case and will something else develop between them?

I have been looking forward to reading this book ever since I saw the front cover because it just stuck in my mind. The storyline was brilliant and I loved the fact that it was set against a murder mystery weekend in a Victorian Mansion. Alongside the case the characters are trying to solve there is a slow burn romance that’s bubbling on the surface between Kate and Max.

When I was reading all I wanted to do was go on a murder mystery weekend because it seemed like so much fun. But if I ever did go on one I would want to be on a team with Kate and Max. I loved Kate and Max. They are what I would call enemies and arch nemeses. They both enjoy murder mystery events, they both want to be the first person to solve the murder and be the first one to get the right answer. They are both extremely competitive and due to their competitive nature they do get on each other’s nerves. But in the past where they've had to work against each other they now find that they have to work together to try and solve the murder especially when there is such a large amount of money at stake and potentially were the organiser isn’t playing fair.

I really liked Kate. She’s very inquisitive and curious. She's also very methodical in how she approaches things and is always looking for clues. Where another person may dismiss an item or word, to Kate that could be a potential clue. This is where she clashes with Max because he has exactly the same characteristics. In addition to the murder mystery something more starts to develop between Kate and Max. As they start to work together they start to see each other in a different light. As for Max I thought he was very sweet and it was clear that he liked Kate quite a lot. I thought it was very cute when Max saved Kate a piece of cake when he wasn’t sure if she had eaten at lunch. As far as I'm concerned if a potential love interest saves you a piece of cake then he’s a keeper. Although Kate like puzzles and solving riddles she's quiet when it comes to speaking about her theory in public and prefers to blend into the background. But taking part in this murder mystery does push Kate and helps her to come out of her shell.

While reading I found myself invested in Kate and Max’s journey into getting to know each other but also trying to work out the murder mystery myself but there were so many twists and turns I could never have guessed the outcome.

A must read if you’re a fan of murder mysteries and slow burn romances.

Clues to You is a heartwarming romance with a very intriguing mystery to solve. The fact that it was a murder weekend where the suspects were all actors didn't lessen the appeal. Everyone took their roles very seriously so it felt like a real Agatha Christie style mystery and as a result I was hooked on that part of the story right from the start.

We also have the unlikely friendship and budding romance between Kate and Max. Kate had a lot of misconceptions about Max, who, as it turns out, is a complete sweetheart and very adorable. Their pairing up to solve the mystery was a joy to read. Their interactions were cute and sweet. Both have a keen interest in mysteries and have read extensively in the genre so it was no surprise that they were able to unravel the mystery together. They did a better job than me of following the clues. I did not see that ending coming!

I really enjoyed Max and Kate as a couple and I would love it if the pair were involved in another mystery sometime soon.

This is the third in the love in the Comptons series, but it works perfectly well as a standalone.

I wasn’t entirely sure what to expect, but I loved the idea of a romance set during an Agatha Christie style murder mystery weekend. I ended up absolutely loving it!

Kate is a mild-mannered teacher who is still reeling from a painful breakup. The murder mystery weekend is a much needed break until she finds out her nemesis Max will be on her team. She feels Max has always hated her, but when they start working together, she realises that she might have been wrong about him.

Kate and Max were a wonderful pairing. Plenty of back and forth, which was so much fun to read.
I also liked the murder mystery aspect. It was so well thought out. I enjoyed playing along with the characters and figuring out the clues.

Clues to you was an absolute joy to read and I’m a little bit it ended. I will definitely read more from Claire Huston in the future.

I would just like to say a big thank you to Rachel’s Random Resources who very kindly forwarded me an arc copy of this book, for my kindle, in return for my honest review.

Clues To You is actually the third book in the wonderful ‘Love In The Comptons’ series. This book can very easily be read as a standalone and each book in the series has recurring characters too.

I really enjoyed this book(as I did with all the others too!) and the characters were wonderful and i really enjoyed getting to know them all.

The authors style of writing was perfect and kept me wanting to read more and more just so that i could find out how the story unfolds.

This story turned out to be a wonderful murder mystery with a few little twists and turns too…….

A romance within a murder mystery. Friends attend a murder mystery weekend hoping to solve the who done it and win the prize. Two rivals end up working together to try and solve the mystery and discover that they aren’t rivals after all. A great read that moves at a quick pace with lots of twists and turns.

Very fun read. I enjoyed the interplay of the characters. Being frenemies at the beginning helps to build the understanding of the relationship. As you read the story unfolds in a well written murder mystery with good twists and turns: I enjoyed all the interactions and the relationship developments.

A Victorian manor house, the chance to be a sleuth for the weekend, spending time with best friend Bella, the prospect of a rollover £50,000 prize that would help her sort out her life – something teacher Kate knows she’s going to enjoy, until Max Ravenscroft appears, as handsome and self-contained as ever. When they were both part of the Friendly Murder Club, he was so often the destroyer of her dreams of detective glory – he also doesn’t seem to like her much (the feeling’s mutual), and when it turns out that they need to work together, the weekend suddenly looks like being far less fun than she was expecting. But there’s far more to Max than there appears, and when it also turns out that the weekend’s organiser has a vested interest in making sure there are no winners, they find they have more common ground than Kate realised – and their working relationship and tentative friendship starts to turn into something rather different.

What followed was the perfect combination of an enemies-to-lovers contemporary romcom and the most intriguing of period cosy mysteries, quite beautifully written and perfectly paced and plotted, laced with gentle humour but with a few emerging elements of personal baggage, and I must say I thoroughly enjoyed every moment. The cast is simply wonderful – the actors always maintaining their 1930s personas (and there are some fabulous characters among them, with intriguing relationships and motivations, every one of them a potential suspect), the developing relationship between Kate and Max so perfectly handled and entirely convincing (with really strong chemistry), and I also very much enjoyed the friendship with effervescent Bella.

Kate herself was a character I really took to my heart, with her hesitance and nervousness balanced by a steely determination to emerge as winner whatever was thrown at her – and her personal style frequently made me smile. And the whole murder mystery scenario is so very well done, becoming more complicated at every turn, and all the more so because of the dirty tricks going on behind the scenes. And the ending? It really couldn’t have been any more perfect.

This was such clever and confident writing, a story that hooked me from its opening pages and became ever more unputdownable as the story developed, the romance and intrigue so perfectly entwined. I really loved it – and it’s a rather special book I’d certainly really recommend to others.

My Thoughts: this couldn’t be any less than 5 stars, Claire just has this ability to make you forget everything else around you whilst you’re reading, I adore her romance books, but this is possibly the best one yet as it has a cosy mystery element too that just keeps you guessing!

In this one we’re following Kate and Max, they’re murder mystery rivals and thrown into the same team for the first time in years… can they put their differences aside to solve the case?

I’m not sure what I was living for more, the 1930’s mystery or the cute little scenes between Max and Kate where they start to realise that the line between love and hate really is paper thin!

The change between the mystery being solved and the actors was so seamless that sometimes I forgot that the whole Murder mystery aspect was just a bit of fun, and was all for them solving the case, I got SO invested that I found myself actually gasping at some of the reveals!

Full of swoon worthy moments that made me jealous (is that normal?🤦🏻‍♀️😂) of Kate, we all need a man like Max! And moments that make you realise that having a female best friend can really be the most dangerous weapon you have in your arsenal!

I am torn between wanting the Love In The Comptons series to continue and not wanting there to be another couple after Kate and Max because they are just everything 😍🥺

The Blurb :
Kate Brannon is delighted to be attending her first murder mystery weekend in a movie-worthy Victorian manor house. Still getting over being dumped, cracking the case would be a welcome boost to her flagging confidence. And the prize money wouldn’t hurt either.
But Kate’s dreams of victory become a nightmare with the arrival of Max Ravenscroft. Smart, enigmatic and annoyingly handsome, Max is Kate’s sleuthing nemesis.
When she and Max are forced to work together, Kate despairs. But, as the investigation brings them closer, she finds being his partner in solving crime isn’t all bad.
With growing suspicions that the game is rigged against them, can Kate and Max beat the odds to find the killer? And, as their partnership deepens, can they find romance too?

My Thoughts :
We meet Kate Brannon, a murder mystery enthusiast. She is so excited for her first Merryman’s Murder Mystery weekend at a manor house doing what she loves best, solving mysteries.
The throw of a £50,000 prize for the winner goes down nicely too.
Kate is joined by best friend Bella and her fiance Ethan. Kate soon spots the arrival of Max Ravenscroft, Kate loathes him with a vengence and hates the way he tries but put her down at previous amateur Friendly Murder Club group meetings.
She certainly doesnt have time for him, but when they are thrown together due to Bella and Ethan having numerous rows over their wedding plans. They are left to try and solve the crime together.
Kate and Max actually find themselves relaxing in each others company and it seems they work well together. Even the arrival of Kate’s ex Paul who is trying to win her back doesnt deter the couple from grabbing that prize money.
Will kate and Max finally let their guards down and act on the chemistry between them or is it all for show and about winning that prize money!?.
I did wonder if I would get a little bored with this as it had the premise to focus on just the Murder Mystery weekend but I was wrong, I loved it and fell in love with Kate and Bella from the off.
There is enough to keep the reader interested and wanting to find out what happens next, not only with the murder but with the undeniable tention between Kate and Max.
Full marks to Claire Huston for delivering such a great story that keeps the reader focused. Especially with the 1930s theme. The actors used in the event were also well themed and easily likeable, they were kept in Character all the time and didnt sway from the script.
Claire Huston, has a way of surprising us with her next page, and there are times when I didnt even know what was coming, despite trying to guess.
Great work and looking forward to more.

Clues To You is the third in the Love In The Comptons series and shockingly I've read them out of order (which is unheard of for me) but I was so desperate to read this one and didn’t have enough time. I bloody love attending murder mystery events so this book was right up my street!

Although this is a romance with 'enemies to lovers' and 'academic rivals', this was definitely more of a low stakes (except for the prize fund!), cosy murder mystery with a touch of romance thrown in and romance wasn't the main element, which made for a really nice change.

I really enjoyed Claire's writing and am looking forward to reading more books by her; there was just the right amount of characters and the story was easy to follow, which I find often isn't the case with a murder mystery!

I quite liked this book. As a teen my friends and I would host murder mystery parties so this was nostalgic and fun figuring out who did it! Also, can you go wrong with a misunderstanding that changes a friendship, surprise visits and how a mystery can change everything?
This was a great standalone good feeling read and it even had a lovely plot twist at the end!

A 1930s Murder Mystery event is the setting for this cosy mystery romantic comedy. Forced to work with her nemesis, Max, to solve the murder and discover if the competition is genuine, Kate finds that he is not the man she thought. This original, well-written story has humour, friendship, mystery, and romance. I like the murder mystery event setting, the gentle romance and the humorous dialogue.

I didn't realise when I asked to receive a copy of this book that it was part of a series but I don't think it mattered as you can read as a stand alone book which is good.

I love Romance and I love murder mystery so this combined both and definitely didn't diaspoint. Characters were good and the story flowed. Perfect escapism.

There was a lot to do with this book - three separate stories in a way: the story of the characters, the story of the murder mystery weekend they were attending, and the story of the actual murder. The writer did a really good job in weaving all three of those strands together.
