Shadow Lord
By Nellie H Steele
This has more adventures, and they are so fun, but Paige, she seemed so different. She was very unlikeable. So much so that I don't want to read any more of the books in this series. If it was a side character, it wouldn't be so critical, but this is the main character.

Nellie Steele's cozy paranormal adventure series, Shelving Magic is back with the third book, Shadow Lord. This story was entertaining with a bit of excitement, mystery, humor, and more.

Paige and Dewey kinda did a personality swap in this one. It didn't start off like that but somewhere along the way Paige became bold snarky, brave, and used common sense while Dewey was sort of an airhead. I didn't like that Dewey seemed to lose all common sense but I'm so happy that Paige finally found some. The pair are still ride or die, there may have even been a drunken pizza night with magical artifacts, which do not mix but it can be funny.

However, don't let those events fool you, Dewey and Paige upgraded in this book. No matter how temporary it may be, the setting was in France, where they stayed in a magical chateau (I'm so jealous), there was Couture, a Galla, and an award ceremony to name a few things. Then things went left Paige was in trouble and somehow managed to get out of it pretty much on her own and she grew a backbone.

The thing with this plot if you didn't read the prequel you might think something up. However, if you did read the prequel then you know there is some SAF crap going on. Drucinda is back and I still don't like her. Devon's true motives are revealed and even I'm like "wtf?" Plus he seems to hint that Paige is missing some very important information. What could it be and what's up with her bracelet? Not only all of that stuff but another magical artifact is loose in the world and a familiar and very shocking face makes a reappearance. Then things got weird, a mysterious entity, an asylum, and more. Paige's life as a Librarian is far from boring.

Shadow Lord was a surprising read, there were plenty of unexpected twists and a few surprising character developments. I enjoyed this adventure and am curious about the next especially since Nellie dropped that bomb at the end.

I like this series. I like the cool and quirky vibe it has. A librarian and a teacup dragon traveling the globe battled various supernatural forces to save the world from dangerous magical artifacts. This one was a bit wacky for me. There’s time travel, there’s the kidnapping or maybe it’s a rescue/reunion, there’s the evil librarian taken back into the fold and oh then there’s the gem that warps reality. It’s not that I don’t think all of those things in and of themselves are cool I think all together it’s a bit too icy for one book. Or at least it was for me. Your mileage may vary.

I DNF'd this one at 60%

I liked the first two books even though there were parts that didn't work for me, but this book didn't work for me. I found myself skimming through the book as the whole beast prince storyline wasn't interesting to me. I was hoping the second half would be more about the adventurous vibe, but I didn't feel like continuing.

I loved this one 😀. There was a new world ending artifact to track down--a chaos gem, which can alter the fabric of reality. Paige and Dewey set off to find it, only to find out that Drucinda is now a librarian and they need to work with her. Not believing that she's #teamgoodguys, they are desperate to find it first.

Page's very suspicious hot neighbor Devon plays a major role in this one. Its clear that he'll play a major role in the next one, too. Some secrets about him are revealed, but he also knows more than he's saying.

Annnnnnddddd then there's the comic relief!!!! THE LIVING GOO!!!!! It's just what it sounds like--goo which is alive. It gets its Paige's brain and then manifests as a hologram that only she can see. And he's cheeky! I was laughing so hard!

There was some unexpected comic relief from Henry, the wimpy fairy take prince from the last book. He's in the real world now, and determined to win Paige's love. Shenanigans ensue! I didn't ever expect to see him again, and the way he fit in with Paige and Dewey's banter was hilarious.

This is lots of fun. Highly recommend.

This is book three of the Shelving Magic series all about a team of librarians dealing with supernatural relics and artifacts. Paige Turner is the newest librarian at the Shadow Harbor Library and works with her teacup dragon researcher Dewey Decimael, and fellow librarian (Ronnie) Veronica Lauren. Dewey has managed to cure her from the mark of the day walking vampire beast that attacked her. Ronnie comes in with the amazing news that their team has won the BLT, Best Librarian Team award, and they get to travel to a posh award ceremony to get their award! Paige’s issue is the fact she keeps seeing her new neighbour Devon everywhere and Dewey figures out that he is her day walking vampire and that she needs to stay away from him, no matter how handsome he is. Paige has had an interesting first year of this job, not even knowing about the supernatural before this job. Devon keeps trying to talk to her, but she is beginning to get creeped out by his appearances everywhere. At the awards ceremony, their team and a couple of others get pulled aside for an important and time crucial job, as news of a chaos gem has been revealed and they need to find it and contain it fast, before it gets into the wrong hands. The newest member of the Paris team, Drucinda Sharpe, is the woman Paige believes is responsible for her parent’s deaths and can’t believe she has been hired by a library. She is more criminal and evil, than someone who should be in such a trusted position.

Paige and Dewey head off in one car but soon find themselves in an accident, with Paige waking up in a strange bedroom. Dewey is nowhere around, but a certain day walking vampire is! She’s now in his father’s castle in Transylvania and not by choice. Devon is supposed to be marrying into another powerful family, but he has fallen for Paige and wants her to marry him, thus saving her life apparently. Paige already had a knight from Arcadia, another dimension, want her to marry him, as she was looking for an object. She refused Henry and she refuses Devon as well! Devon isn’t exactly clear as to why she has to marry him and she isn’t happy with his actions and his stalking. She needs to escape and find Dewey, but thankfully he manages to find her in her dreams and finds out where she is, as does her former fiancé Henry, at least on Henry’s part anyway. He has managed to leave his dimension and come in search of Paige! Paige and Dewey’s arch nemesis Drucinda and her sidekick Thorn, have some connection to Devon and get a clue form him as to the location of the Chaos Gem, they have all been sent to locate and secure. One hint Paige and Dewey have, is to locate some Living Goo and unfortunately, the nearest location is back at Devon’s father’s castle, the very place she has only just escaped from.

The Living Goo turns out to have a personality attached to it and leads them to a spooky former lunatic asylum and the chaos gem soon has them being messed about with and even sent to another time. Lots of strange goings on and poor Paige seems to get the worst of it, as she ends up with the living goo connecting to her and insisting on being called Sebastian, annoyingly changing his appearance to look like Devon frequently! Someone they meet in the past time warp, soon has them with a guide to the chaos gem, now they just have to get back to their own time! Of course Drucinda and Thorn have beaten them to the location, but don’t know the exact location of where it had been hidden away so long ago. Paige finds out a bit more about Drucinda and why she has never been able to beat her and is so easily overcome by her physically! Paige worries that Drucinda will do something illegal with the gem or give it to Devon and his family for some ill-gotten reason, so they have to make sure they end up with it and not her. Paige does her best, but Dewey certainly doesn’t help quite as much as she might want, often too scared to do anything to help and a bit of a scaredy cat! We don’t get to see much of third library team member Ronnie, which is a shame. It seems Paige is a popular woman, who two men want to marry her, lots of kidnappings and danger at every turn, and just to think she knew nothing of this world just a year before! No doubt this type of adventure will continue as more supernatural items need to be kept safe, and I can’t wait to see what befalls her and Dewey in the future. I received an ARC copy of this book from BookSprout and I have freely given my own opinion of the book above.

Shadow Lord
By
Nellie H Steele

5 ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐
This is the third book in the Shelving Magic Series by Nellie H. Steele and I must admit, it exceeded my expectations. After her team’s every successful retrieval assignment, their library has won the very prestigious Best Library Team Award and is being honored at the annual library ball. There is one, new paranormal librarian who is not happy with the award, and will do whatever she has to prevent Paige from winning another award. Paranormal librarian Paige Turner, together with her teacup dragon partner Dewey Decimael, are assigned the perilous task of retrieving and secure the Chaos Gem, a gem that will cause catastrophic chaos to the world if not successfully acquired and safely secured. Paige and Dewy are not alone in their quest to find and retrieve the gem, another paranormal librarian is also on the venture and her loyalties are somewhat questionable. In addition, other new and old supernatural enemies are vying to obtain the gem. Paige must use all her wit, strength, and abilities to secure the gem and return it safely to the paranormal library.
This is a fun paranormal series with a lot of action that will keep you enthralled throughout. The world-building was masterful and the character development is wonderful. You get to see some old adversaries as well as new additions to the saga. There are some dark moments of course, but the plot was full of clever, witty, and unpredictable events as the story unfolded. The ending was a real cliffhanger. The story was action-packed from a variety of aspects, and it kept me turning pages to find out how each dilemma was resolved. There were a few times when I had to reread a portion of the dialogue to ensure that I understood what was happening, although this was rare. I would highly recommend Shadow Lord to anyone looking for a fun, paranormal adventure. I voluntarily reviewed an Advance Reay Copy.

In this latest installment of Paige Turner's thrilling adventures alongside her colleague Dewey, the stakes are higher than ever. It appears that danger follows Paige relentlessly, with threats to her life and unwelcome obligations closing in from all sides. The enigmatic figure of Devon enters the scene, his determination to rescue Paige from ominous forces puzzling, given his powerful background. Paige's vulnerability belies her ability to navigate sticky situations, as she consistently does.

However, the narrative takes an unexpected turn when an unlikely savior emerges, casting doubt on the damsel-in-distress image Paige projects. As she confronts her relentless pursuer, Devon, questions about his true intentions loom large. Is he truly motivated by noble intentions, or does he harbor hidden agendas?

Meanwhile, the age-old nemesis, Drucinda and her formidable companion Thorn, embark on a parallel mission to secure the coveted chaos gem. But this artifact proves to be unlike anything they've encountered before, raising the possibility that teamwork may be the key to its retrieval.

As the plot unfolds, readers are treated to a captivating blend of action, adventure, adversaries, unexpected allies, and well-placed plot twists. The story's backdrop, reminiscent of an Indiana Jones adventure, adds to the excitement. Instead of chasing after gold and ancient artifacts, Paige and Dewey pursue magical relics, aware of the catastrophic consequences should these fall into the wrong hands.

Overall, this tale delivers an exhilarating mix of suspense, danger, and intrigue, ensuring that readers are kept on the edge of their seats throughout. With its compelling plot twists and a diverse cast of characters, it's a must-read for fans of action-packed adventures in the realm of magical artifacts and perilous quests.

Book 3 - and it did not disappoint.

Like the other two books, there were a number of stories going on in the one book. There is the overall theme of the series with the story of Paige and Dewey and the ongoing 'just who is this hunk' Devon that gets Dewey all bitter and twisted and Paige simply gaga and weak at the knees.

Then a fair way into the book we start on the main thrust of this book. There are plenty of artifacts, magic, conflict, and nail biting 'how will they get out of this' moments throughout.

This time we have a chaos gem, living goo and pulling the series together, not that it needs it but it is fun, characters from previous books making an appearance and a team that were the opposition once, now as the knights in shining armour, or are they?

We also get to meet the parents of one of the main characters who although had a minor MC part previously, is at the centre of everything this time.

This book is written in the same quirky style with plenty of good old slapstick throughout, but this time as well as 'Its behind you' there is so much rolling of eyes as you will shout out - Shut Up And Listen. So many things are so nearly resolved till Dewey, or Paige or Devon etc etc say just the wrong thing at just the right time and everything is turned on its head again. Its frustratingly fun, (in the right way)

By the end of the book. one of the long term 'who is' questions is answered, but another one is reopened towards the end, giving enough questions and meat for another book.... Nellie willing.

This book, like the others, is a good fun read. There is something for everyone in a very easy style of writing. You will definitely not regret picking up a copy and enjoying the world that Nellie presents us with.

I received an Advanced Reader Copy and am voluntarily reviewing it. This funny, action-packed series is moving on to a new adventure. The team is receiving an award. The Best Library Team, BLT, has Ronnie, Dewey and Paige heading to the Chateau Magique for the ceremony. This is great no new adventures on the horizon. Just get the award and enjoy the expo, right? Life never works that way for Paige.

Though cured from the day-walking vampire mark, Paige is still dealing with a residual symptom. When Devon Leblanc touches her, she goes down. Devon already makes Paige uncomfortable. What is going on? Dewey and Ronnie have an idea and have vowed to keep Paige away from Devon. While enjoying the ceremony, it is discovered that the chaos gem needs to be found and archived immediately. Paige is now forced to work with her nemesis,Drucinda Sharp, who is now the librarian in Paris.

Drucinda will do any and everything to get the job done. Now Paige and Dewey have to figure out how to beat Drucinda’s team to the chaos gem. Unfortunately upon arrival in Romania. Paige is taken by none other than Devon. Devon has a proposal that shocks Paige to her core and he won’t take no for an answer. This book brings back Henry and adds some new characters.

As always the follies and adventures of Dewey and Paige are unexpected and surprising. Paige’s novice and innocent ways of figuring out the hardest solutions makes this series. Readers will go a journey where the unexpected will always happen. I still don’t know how Paige and Dewey managed to get out of half of the stuff they get into. I loved every minute of it and cannot wait for the next book in this series.

I love this series - it's silly, hilarious and has great characters too. Paige Turner, the newest librarian and her archivist Dewey Decimael are a great pair, although Dewey was more of a wimp this time round, with Paige taking the lead and standing up for herself more and more. Finding herself in impossible situations seemed to have brought the stronger, more determined and independent side out of her!

This one started out nice and calm, with the librarians winning an award and having to attend a fabulous ceremony to receive it, but as always quiet, happy times are far and few and soon enough the chance is on to retrieve a highly dangerous artefact! What should have been a reasonably simple retrieval job soon becomes a fight for Paige's life more times than she could count! The day walking vampire has a hand in all this chaos too as does now fellow librarian Drucinda!

With a kidnapping, attempted murder, betrayals, a blast from the past and the bizarre Living Goo giving Paige unusual, yet very helpful, visions, this book was a great rollercoaster ride of a read! There was never a dull moment and Paige and Dewey jumped out of the frying pan and into the fire over and over again! I loved the chaos of it all, but the revelation at the end was a complete surprise!

If you love fun reads with hilarious characters, then this series is one for you.

I received an ARC copy of this book, but this review is my own, honest one. Thank you Nellie for another great read!

entertaining urban fantasy adventure series

This is an entertaining urban fantasy adventure series. The fun cast of characters and an entertaining storyline. Think librarians and warehouse 13 a little bit of extra paranormal thrown in. Page Turner is a librarian she is the librarian of the archive at her particular library. There are many number of these libraries around the world that go out and collect dangerous paranormal objects and other objects that to damage humanity. These librarians for the most part are a mixture of some humans some paranormal mixtures and their partners are any number in between. They are based in regular libraries around the world. Each one is individual And when there is a problem it is usually sent to the closest library. However there are few elite teams that occasionally get the big major problems. Paige Turner and her partner are one of those teams. Once again they are tasked with finding something that could destroy the world. Will they find it in time read and find out.

I really enjoyed this book as much as book 1 as the adventures of Paige, the librarian and Dewey her adorable dragon archivist. There is great chemistry of humour, fun, adventure and attract drama as more of Paige's own personal discovery is reveled and bit of an unexpected twist at the end leaves you with another cliff hangar and excited to discover more.
I really enjoy how Nellie Steele has wonderful dialogue and scenes as the way the characters are drawn in and interact with each other is often hilarious, annoying and wonderful to Paige who in this story has to contend with not only Dewey's imagination but Devon's proposal is both unexpected and endearing although not so for Paige. I am excited for have more Devon in the books.
I find these book are definitely feel good, humour filled, exciting and very enjoyable as cozy fun supernatural adventures.

Paige and Dewey’s previous missions have garnered them serious recognition. But before they can really celebrate a new catastrophe looms. Reports of a chaos gem have the library teams racing against time and each other to save the world again. And while Paige has been cured from the mark of the beast, she’s still being targeted by the day waking vampire. At least she’s learned his identity, but what are his real plans towards her?

A nonstop adventure with a resourceful heroine, snarky sidekick, ambiguous antagonists, and lethal villains. Chaos abounds both from the gem and the greater supernatural world. Living goo saves the day and finds romance. Kidnappings, rescues, poisonings, daring escapes, & proposals are all in a day’s work for Shadow Harbor’s newest librarian. Can’t wait for more of Paige and company.

In this installment of the adventure of Paige and Dewey, we find out that they won something. So cool. However, things aren’t as they seem and they get to go on another hunt for something that is the scariest they have faced so far. Dewey was right and wrong about Devon. Devon’s family is a big deal. Finding out about that pretty much blew my mind. My wish that Devon wasn’t evil semi came true. Lol. So much happens in this book! It was so much fun to read and emotionally, the reader is on a roller coaster ride. This is the only type of roller coaster I like. I get motion sick- badly. Lol.

Almost every movie, ever mentioned in this series, is one I love so- yay. The last two thirds of the book defies logic and drove me crazy in a good way. I can’t wait to read the next book.

Shadow Lord is the third book in the Shelving Magic series by Nellie H. Steele. This cozy fantasy series revolves around the Shadow Harbor Librarian, Paige, and her mini dragon sidekick Dewey. The library team is being honored for their great accomplishments since Paige became the head librarian, so they head to a huge awards ceremony for the supernatural world. While there, they are tasked with finding the chaos gem, along with another unexpected library team. They have to put their differences aside and work together, but can they trust their former arch nemesis?

I found this story so hilarious, and I love the way that Dewey is constantly making fun of Devon. Their banter really makes this book. This book was definitely a wild adventure, and I look forward to wherever the next book takes us!

One curse down, one world ending gem to go. There are no days off from this job, something our heroine is quickly finding out. Not sure their are any friends or allies either, which could be a real bummer.

This is book three of the series, but it does pretty well as a standalone. All the essential parts are explained early on.

This is a urban fantasy story with a cozy mystery approach. The story is well written and easy to read, but not at all easy to put down. The characters are likeable and engaging right from the start so you quickly get drawn into the story. The plot moves at a good pace with lots of twists and turns to keep things moving. Overall, I found it to be a great addition to the series and I look forward to seeing what comes next.

Highly recommended.

Not bad...but.....

Not bad...but
What's with this author and Glasses?
I've worn them over 60 years..no not a typo.
They do Not break easily, that stopped before the 1960s
If they fit properly they DON'T FALL OFF!
Fall asleep in them..they stay on, have a bad car accident..they stay on...trip and fall on your face...they stay on!
Good grief!
not even slightly amusing!
Cut it out!
They do get smeared, dirty and scratched, that's bad enough.
The rest, well the rest is interesting or I would stop reading them.
The characters are well done, the plots are imaginative.
These are worth reading
Enjoy, just ignore the glasses garbage, its not realistic in any dimension set after the 1950s much less in a cell phone world.

Once again, I enjoyed the story. Nellie H Steele has a great way of capturing your attention and keeping you reading until the book is finished.

Shadow Lord was an action packed story with a lot of humour. This time Paige and Dewey find themselves looking for a chaos gem that if in the wrong hands could destroy the world. Along the way they discovered who effected Paige, it's none other than, you'll have to read the book to find out.

The characters were quite good in this story. Humourous and funny which made the story come alive. The "Live Goo" portion of the story was hilarious and found myself laughing out loud.

If you like paranormal and action you will like this book. Now to fully understand what is going on I do recommend reading the first 2 books. You won't be sorry!.

I really enjoyed Shadow Lord, and the entire Shelving Magic series so far. I enjoy the world-building and the well-written characters as each story immerses me deeper into Paige's life and experiences. With each new book in the series, I'm drawn further in, tagging along with Paige & Dewey on their adventures. I highly recommend this book (and the whole series) for anyone who enjoys reading contemporary fantasy adventures. Just do yourself a favor & be sure to start at the beginning of the series.

Paige and Dewey have earnt a BLT (Best Library Team) award for their Library, and they have been sent to accept the award and celebrate. Unfortunately they won't get to do it long, before their next mission of locating the Chaos Gem is assigned. Can Paige and Dewey solve this one before their competition Drucinda and Thorn? I enjoyed this quiry story, with it's danger, adventure and mystery/suspense, although Paige and Dewey are sometimes too quick to reject some help when it's offered.

Received as an ARC, I am leaving my honest review. The suspense is high and the plot moves fast as Paige learns from Dewey who the beast is that marked her. But in human form he is hard to resist. There are forces that want Paige out of the way, and the man determined to save her, is also the monster who almost killed her. Caught between trying to run, and trying to find an ancient artifact to save the world will have you glued to the pages as truths are revealed and the adventure unfolds.

More interesting adventures take place in this book, and I was happy to have more Devon in this book as well as a surprise return from another character! I do feel bad for them both, honestly, with how Paige treats them. They certainly have more patience and dedication than I do! It was also interesting to see more of Drucinda in this book. I can't say much more without spoiling things, but this next installment didn't disappoint, and I am looking forward to the next one!

Another Fun Adventure

This time Paige and Dewey are sent after a chaos artifact. Only they are not the only team looking for it. The race is on, but, then Paige gets kidnapped, which sets her behind. Or does it? Her nemesis shows up where Paige is being held. Who's on first? The race is still on. I am enjoying the series, but Paige and Dewey do frequently act like squabbling siblings. And Paige is too busy talking to actually listen when someone is trying to tell her something important. It is annoying. Or maybe I am just old 😁.

Librarian Paige and her teacup dragon partner, Dewey, are in search of a chaos gem. Of course it is causing chaos and has to be found and secured before it causes catastrophic damage. In the meantime, Paige is kidnapped by a love-struck vampire and has to escape before she is killed by either his father or his would-be fiance. Also on the hunt for the gem is her nemesis, who is supposedly on the same team as Paige. Also on the scene is another would-be love interest. Paige actually doesn't want either of these guys.

DNF. I was having to suspend my disbelief way too much for this series.

An ordinary girl becomes Indiana Jones and consistently survives (and beats) much more skilled enemies. Libraries safeguard world-ending artifacts, but each library has only ONE librarian, instead of a skilled team. Her neighbor is a clear threat to her, but are we going to tell anyone or do anything? Nope!

Also, she trips way too much. I want to read about someone who is good at her job! Not someone where you're left wondering how in the world she managed to succeed.

This is the third book in the series, and I just love Paige and Dewey. This latest has the library they work for winning an award, but as always, there is mayhem and chaos that follows on the lead of another artifact they must track down. Sometimes the plot gets a little lost and nonsensical, but the banter between the characters is what really makes this series fun. The writing is great, the characters are wonderful, and I’m hoping to read more in this series. I just wish that the plot made a little bit more sense and followed a straightforward path. Recommend. I was provided a complimentary copy which I voluntarily reviewed.
