The Sisterhood Of The Black Pen have a very noble mission of bringing together talented authors who may be indie or self pub as well as new authors who other wise lack the resources to make their voice heard. Twisted Tales of Halloween Horror is only the beginning, and I am eager to see what they bring us next.

It's been a long time since I read an anthology that I can honestly say I enjoyed every last story. Were there stories that I enjoyed more?? Absolutely. But there wasn't a single story that I didn't enjoy in some way.

The stories and voices in this anthology are diverse and touch on many horror tropes. From folklore to urban legend to creature feature, there is the perfect spooky tale for everyone.

Some stories will shock you, others will fill you with dread, but they will all leave you hungry for more. Which, lucky for you, after each story, there is a small blurb to introduce each author so that you can follow their literary journeys!

This book is the perfect addition to your spooky season lineup. If you love anthologies, consider adding this to your collection today!!!

I received a copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.

I’m honored to have received an arc from the Sisterhood of the Black Pen!

Horror anthologies are one of my favorite things, and this did NOT disappoint. All of the authors featured are beyond talented. Every story was such a good read, and kept me on my toes. Each one was an absolute page turner, leaving me wishing there was just a teeny bit more to satiate my need.

This anthology is a must & one of my favorite reads so far if 2023.

This horror anthology has a wide range of themes within its take of classic Halloween favorites. It's a wonderful collection of horror shorts that is sure to provide a few new favorites for spooky season enthusiasts.

"Betwixt and Between Bill" by Dana Monaghan makes for a wonderful start to the collection. Its take on the Jack-o'-lantern is creative and sets the mood for the rest of the book.

One of my favorites is "Jack" by Faye Knightly. In this story, Jack found a way to keep the devil in the coin he tried to trade his soul with. This twist of Jack's legend leaves the reader with a gritty, page-turning story that's sure to send shivers up their spine.

Another favorite was "Tristan and Sabine" by Michal Leigh. I love that history inspired this horrifying tale. The climax will definitely have you sleeping with a nightlight!

I do hope everyone enjoys reading my contribution (My Darling Girl) as much as I enjoyed writing it. I also hope it has you pulling the covers up tight. 😁

Lastly, I have to say "Never Run Out of Candy" by Sara Clementina was another one of my favorites (no one says people can't have more than one favorite, right??). Why do we give out candy on Halloween? And what happens when something comes asking but there's nothing to give away. This short story serves as the conclusion of this anthology and I find it a perfect way to leave the world of twisted tales.

There are many more wonderful stories within the anthology but I wanted to highlight which ones I enjoyed the most.

“Betwixt and Between Bill,” “My Darling Girl,” “Tristan and Sabine,” and “Legacy” are standouts amongst this short story horror collection.

The most important thing about this book though is the group behind it, The Sister of the Black Pen. This organization has a mission to share indie work and voices. Kudos to you all for the time and dedication to support the self-published community. 🎃💕

This is a nice collection of well written short stories. I enjoyed the fact that each story had its own supernatural theme instead of the same theme to each story. Several of these left me wanting more and I would’ve loved to have those be more than just a short story.

“One goes in. One comes out”.

I loved this! The concept of multiple writers coming together to share their stories all in one book is so fun! I think all of the stories were amazing but there was definitely some that caught my attention more than the others, which is why I loved that at the end of each story there is an author page so you can check out each author or just the ones you liked most!!

I think the stories were great! I think my favorite was Mirror Mirror. I’ve always been afraid of Bloody Mary and mirrors in my room so this one was super creepy and I loved the idea of Bloody Mary being more than one person!

I think this is a great fall read! Tons of spooky tales that leave you on the edge of your seat! My favorite thing about books with multiple short stories is you can choose how fast you read! There’s no hurry to start the next chapter and you can always finish a book like this in one sitting or read it a story at a time!

Definitely recommend this for this fall season if you’re looking for something different, spooky and easy to read!!

Wow what an amazing book of stories this was! Absolutely brilliant, I thoroughly enjoyed it. The majority of the stories creeped me out so bad when I heard floorboards and old pipes in the house at night I froze and thought "this is it" 😂. One in particular scared the sh*t out of me 👀👀.

Well done ladies.... well done 👏👏👏.

Twisted Tales of Halloween Horror brings 11 chilling stories about Devil's Night and Samhain. With new takes on some classic Halloween legends and some chilling new stories, The Sisterhood of the Black Pen has created a dynamite horror anthology!

There isn't a single bad story in this set, and I was captivated from the moment I opened the book on my Kindle. I couldn't stop reading, and before I knew it, I was at the end and wishing for more!

It's so hard to pick a favourite, but Mirror, Mirror absolutely stole the show! I've never really imagined Bloody Mary in this scenario, and it's so tragic to think about the legend continuing in the manner that Laurae Knight portrayed it. It's an absolutely fascinating take on a story that we all know and love, and Laurae brought something new and unique to keep the story interesting!

Ouija Board was a really fun read! It took the classic vengeful ghost scenario and turned it on its head to give the trope a new depth. I really have to give Kari Robins props for taking a concept that can be hard not to make cliché and making it shine in a way that not many can.

Hungry by A.C. Salazar left me aching for more. I was so enthralled by the concept of this story, and I was really disappointed when it ended! I'd absolutely love to know more about the universe and what happens with Charlie and Ava. Is Ava able to get through to her? Does Charlie eat her anyway? Do Charlie, Ava, and the Bogeyman make up some twisted, demented family? All very important questions!

I could go on forever talking about how fun and exciting this collection was to read! Every story in it was beautifully written and expertly crafted. I'd like to give a big thank you to The Sisterhood for letting me read this, and I've definitely got my eye on them for what they release next!

Where do I begin?! The stories were amazing. Some were amazing and when they ended, I wanted more. Other's I wasn't so fond of, but they were good, now with that said I have to give some background I'm not a fan of vampires, but I did read the stories in this anthology.

All eleven authors did a great job sucking me into the stories (pun intended)! Even the vampire ones. I finished it last night and ended up having a strange dream about a fang breaking in my mouth. Yes, I hate vampire books/movies just because I end up having strange/horrifying dreams.

If you like the old scary stories such as Bloody Mary, the Boogyman, Jack-O-Lanterns, and vampires these are a twist on those kinds of stories. Trust me you won't expect what happens in some of them.

Highly recommend!

Oh yeah, NEVER run out of candy! You never know what is going to happen!

Thank you to The Sisterhood of the Black Pen for allowing me to read an advanced digital copy. These are my words and my words alone.

Twisted Tales of Halloween Horror

Do you like Halloween 🍬🧟‍♂️🕸?
Do you like ghosts 👻👻👻?
Do you like spice🌶🫦❤️?
Do you like gore🩸🩸🩸?
Do you like creature features🧛‍♂️👹🧚‍♂️? Then do I have a collection for you!!!

This was a great collection of short stories all themed around Halloween. It had a little bit of everything. Each author had their unique writing style covering several sub-genres of horror. Most of the short story collections I have previously read were by a single author. I loved getting a taste of each authors' style.

Standouts for me were Legacy, Ouija Board, Don't Listen, and Mirror, Mirror. My favorite was Legacy. It had dual timelines, great characters, a great twist, and a heartbreaking story. It hit the spot. The other three favorites were super creepy and very original ideas. There was not a weak story out of the bunch. There were, however, some stories that just weren't for me or I didn't care for.

I would definitely recommend this collection to anyone wanting an eclectic collection of short stories for Halloween! These stories get a 4⭐️ review from me!

Looking for a fun, gruesome story for spooky season? How about a dozen of em?!
Twisted Tales of Halloween Horror is a wicked anthology centered around my favorite day of the year: Halloween 🎃
Each story in this collection is a devilishly dark read, bringing all your favorite players to life on the pages, and then some: vampires, voids and high school boys (oh my!)
While each story is spectacular, my personal favorite stories in the collection are Betwixt and Between Bill, Hungry, Legacy and ESPECIALLY Jack.
Definitely a fantastic collection! Highly recommended for boils, ghouls and every monster in between.

4 stars!!! ✨✨✨✨

This was so much fun to read! It was like reading the adult version of Are You Afraid of the Dark. Perfect, just in time for spooky season.

Each story was written by a different author and they were all so different. After each story there was a little blurb about the author who wrote it.

There were definitely some stories that I enjoyed more than others, but the book as a whole was a lot of fun and was easy to read.

I think my favorites were My Darling Girl, Mirror Mirror and Legacy.

Overall, 3.75 ⭐️ out of 5 ⭐️

Imagine a dark and stormy night with a crackling fire, the flickering of the lights...wait did I see something, hear a strange noise? That is the feeling this book evokes and it is delightful.

Can I pick a favorite? Not even close.

Thank you to the Sisterhood of the Black Pen for the honor of reading this outstanding compilation of spooky stories.

I was lucky enough to receive an ARC copy of this book. I really enjoyed some of the stories contained in this book and mostly I thought they were all well written. I have to say my favourite was probably ‘Betwixt and Between Bill’ or ‘Mirror,Mirror’.
I have only marked it down as I personally just don’t think it was my cup of tea and I really struggled to push through one or two of the stories.

What happens if Bloody Mary is real and she gets out? There is a legend in Saint Charles. If a certain poem is repeated, don't answer if someone calls your name. What happens if you run out of candy? These and other tales to frighten you.

✨ARC Review✨ Twisted Tales of Halloween Horror 🎃 by The Sisterhood of the Black Pen.

I was chosen as an ARC reader for this book.
This book includes a collection of eleven Halloween Tales to get you in the Halloween Spirit. There were a few Halloween Legends that I hadn't heard about before that I really enjoyed.
What I loved about the stories is that each author did thorough research on the legends.
My favorites were My Darling, Legacy, Ouija Board, and Devil's Night. Please check trigger warnings before reading the book. I would say these tales are great starters to get you in the fall spirit, but not scary enough to keep you up at night.

Definitely check it out!

I'll admit that I don't have the best history with indie horror--I have yet to find one that delivers... and boy did this anthology deliver!!

Each story had its own unique voice, its own twist, and kept me turning the pages. If you were a fan of Scary Stories to Tell in the Dark growing up, this book is for you. It felt like those stories grew with me, and gave me that same sense of nostalgia. I'll definitely be picking up this book again in the future. It's the perfect spooky season read!!

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

Such a fun fall/Halloween read! 11 different classic stories retold with modern or creative twists! Even had some spice. Boogeyman, werewolves, vampires, and urban legends galore.

Definitely check your trigger warnings, but nothing so dark it'll keep you up at night.

I love that each story is written by different authors, so you get to enjoy different perspectives & writing styles.

This is my first read in the Horror genre, I really wasn't disappointed at all I was left with more desire to read this genre because of the stories in this anthology the writers have great talent above all they leave you wanting more from the story, the plot twists a lot were unexpected. Each of the stories has a unique style, there is something for everyone, vampires, ghosts, retelling about Bloody Mary, Jack, Boogie Man, gore, horror even the spice in them you are going to love them as you read each of the stories.

One of my favorites was My Darling Girl by Gloria Lucas, the second story in the anthology, every time I kept moving forward in the story I got even more caught up in it, I felt my hair stand up in fear at the end of the story, I loved it, an authentic horror story.

Mirror Mirror by Laurie Knight, was my favorite story in the anthology, the plot twist in the story had me trapped in it, that touch of spice that she gives in it I loved it, one goes in and one comes out. I was always afraid of Bloody Mary, and the mirrors in the dark I liked the idea that she was always looking for her escape until someone else is the victim.

Another of my favorites was Devil's Night by Sara Trala, the spice mixed with the horror in this story I simply loved it, I wanted to keep reading the story I didn't want it to end, I was left wanting to know more of Elizabeth's story.

Additionally, I loved Jack by Far Knightly in the level of detail in the story as the coin and the demon kept feeding through it, the gore, the plot twist, and the personalities were excellent. Legacy by Kristin Cragg, I love vampire stories and this one joined one of my favorites, the personalities, the story, the plot twist, and the tragic story.

You definitely must read this collection of stories you won't be disappointed in any of them, perfect for a Halloween month read. These stories get 4 ⭐️ from me. I was provided this ARC for an honest review from me, thank you so much for giving me the opportunity to read it.

Do you want to know what’s inside? What hides in the shadows and waits for until you are unguarded to snuff out any remaining hope, to have desires so entwined with dread?

This collection of “short” stories have plenty to tantalize the palette and peak curiosity in creepy origins with a twist.

Dare you have hope for the love thought to be lost and the terrors that must be endured. What nightmares await when you seek out the boogeyman? If you hunger for more then be sure to read Hungry.

Do you ever wonder what pain hides behind the pane? When you speak her name thrice, do you imagine what drives the being whose name had been uttered, summoned, and called? Why not find out who she really is? Look deep into this telling of Bloody Mary in the tale Mirror,Mirror.

Satiate your curiosity for the creatures of the dark, enter worlds of demons, vampires, werewolves, ghosts and more. Grab this collection before the decision not to haunts you forever.

This is 11 short stories all centered around Halloween - some based on legends and some not. It was reaaaaally hard for me to choose just one favorite so I didn’t. I chose several lol my favorites were My Darling Girl, Devil’s Night (which I say - it NEEDS to be a full length story!), Mirror, Mirror and Ouija Board.

This is such a great anthology and all these authors are amazing. The twists and turns in these stories had me saying out loud “WHAT” and definitely kept my interest. All in all, a great addition to your library!
