At fourteen I was crowned champion of the VR Gladiator Games. By eighteen I was unloading junk at a warehouse without a penny to my name. Girls used to chase me. Now they wrinkle their noses in disgust. Life has given me a chance to make a comeback. But in this game, it’s either triumph or perish!
I felt intrigued by the harsh local environment. But both the background of the protagonist as a competitive gamer and his rough environment made his repeted simp-ish behaviour even more aggravating. Despite all his great talks he acted like a noob most of the time. His funkiest choice was tonever increase his endurance and health.. Simba should be rather Pumba as he is a slow klutz..
The story is over- sexed and strives to popularise the Bonobo society. While I agree with the wisdom that a good blowjob makes the world a better place, in this book the sex scenes felt contrived and the girls really slutty..
The teaser mission at the start doesn't happen in the entire first book!
Another VR litRPG with a fair bit of action and some intimate scenes. The real-world setting is really atmospheric, while the in-game setting is a bit bland. Most of the characters are pretty selfish and nasty, which I found more realistic than a lot of books in the genre. It doesn't really have a proper ending, basically just cutting off in the middle of a scene.
The English translation is excellent and the book suffers from far fewer grammatical issues then many English-only books. there are still occasional slips, but overall it's very well written. Dialogue is punchy and flows well.
Audiobook narration is fine, with mild characterisation and only a couple of very minor audio artefacts.
Apart from the ending I'm impressed. I really want to find out what happens.
I was enjoying the book, but dislike Marina and the MC's sudden personality change after the second round of testing; the sudden changes are jarring and bring out from my immersion and then I reflect how distasteful I find the characters once I am out of it.

I actually liked this book, which is surprising because I really didn't like any of the characters. Some I flat out loathed. Still, there was some character development toward the end of the book so it might be worth reading the next book.
I received a review copy of this book. It's always fun to read the first book of a new series, especially one that combines emersion with real world experiences. This one is no exception. The story is interesting, most of all because the game is evolving based on AI learning. This isn't new in the LitRPG genre, but this story doesn't have any input from techs or programmers, it's strictly the AI learning what it can from it's players. You can guess this doesn't always turn out well, and you'd guess right. This is part of what makes the story so amusing. Looking forward to the next one in the series.
