This is a review for Lizzy's Do's and Don'ts by Jessica Harper. This book is about a little girl named Lizzy who is tired of hearing her mother always telling her don't. Like don't cut your hair or don't feed the kitty cat a peach. Lizzy wants her mom to stop only telling her things she can't do and start telling her some things she can do. Lizzy's decides to tell her mom things that she shouldn't do like to not to make her wear the yellow dress and not to tell her her hair's a mess. Lizzy and her mom decided to think of things that they could tell each other to do. Lizzy tells her mom to do teach her how to be prepared and do take her sledding in a blizzard. Lizzy's mom says to do tell her when her hair's a mess and to do put some daisies in her hair. I love this book. It is so cute and something kids and parents could relate to. I would use this book to target rhyming, identify colors, and problem solving.

I like the way that the book captures both the wonder and frustration of a child learning what do to and what not to do. What I think works particularly well is the interaction between mother and daughter as they learn about and from each other.

This is a great book! I feel like I say No or Don't all the time (less now than a year or so ago) and this puts all that in perspective which is fun from both the kid's and mom's side. Fun illustrations, rhyming short phrases and easily accessible topic for kids of all ages = recipe for success.
