Alina Morana, adopted as an infant, is perfectly content with living her life not knowing where she came from. A new apartment, a new career, finally starting the life she'd been craving. Until she received an e-mail from a small-town lawyer letting her know she had inherited a massive estate from her last living biological relatives. The trip should be quick and easy, wrap everything up and return back to her new life. Nothing can ever be so simple. The townspeople are angry, her family owned half of the town, and they didn't make any friends with their business methods. She's hated by people she's never met. Compounded with a house that harbors more secrets in its walls than only its murdered inhabitants- Alina must fight for herself, overcome the debilitating anxiety she'd always been plagued with, and learn who to trust- before it's too late.
Dread immediately hits the ground running and stays in this fast paced highly tense feeling for the rest of the book. I wasn't sure if the house was haunted or if there was going to be another explanation, but I do know I slept with the lights on in my house just in case. Throughout this whole book I found myself just wanting to scream some sense into the MC, but I found that I liked that about the story rather than dreaded the guessability of it. And oop I did not see that final twist coming but lord this book will have you never trusting another soul.
My goodness this book sucked me in and wouldn’t let me out until it was done! I haven’t read a book in a single sitting in 10+ years. The suspense gripped me by the stomach and squeezed until I was nauseous! I literally couldn’t put it down. For a story to give me physical discomfort is a story told well! Well done!
this books gets 2 stars from me. I found so many typos in this book that it irritated me so much. I know this is the authors first book so I wanted to give it a chance. I also found this book to be extremely predictable. nothing surprised me at all. I knew what was going to happen after reading the first chapter. this book just wasn’t for me.
This book had me hooked from the very beginning! I loved it! This book was thrilling in a way that made me sleep with music on so it wasn’t so quiet in our house! Great read!
Omg wow. This one had me on the edge of my seat the whole time. When I wasn't reading it I was thinking about reading it. It's a captivating, thrilling ride and you won't regret picking it up.
Lovely, suspenseful, a touch of dread. For this book being this authors first book she has accomplished so much. This novel is a page turner and will have you gasping with the twist at the end. The horror with a touch of romance is perfect for any reader.
What a page turner! I hated to put this book down..I just had to know. I thought I'd had it all figured out but NOPE. Wrong. What a good spooky season read. Loved it!
The amount of sheer anxiety i had throughout this entire book really goes to show how beautifully it was written. Dread really fits the book perfectly.
What a riveting story! I was hooked on Alina’s inner workings and thoughts. I also suspected everybody until the last 30 pages or so- nobody was safe in my mind.
Couple of points: Told entirely in 3rd person from female main character POV.
The occasional typo but it did not distract me from the story itself.
Less than 300 pages so it’s perfect for a quick but action-packed read.
Things did tend to get bogged down when the FMC did mundane things such as going to the grocery store or having too much time to think.
Great character development of FMC and a perfect example of “enough is enough.” Love a strong comeback! (Okay- that was more than a couple.)
