Our dog Rusty’s romp through our neighbor’s prized flower beds wasn’t the best way to introduce ourselves. We had only recently moved to Silver Springs to open our bed and breakfast and already started off on the wrong foot. Before we could make things right with our new grumpy neighbor, he was murdered, and the police chief has one primary my husband. If I can’t prove Jim’s innocence, we’ll lose the Bluebell Inn, and he’ll spend the rest of his life in prison. I can’t let that happen.
The Grumpy Neighbor's Grave Mistake has such a cute cover showcasing Rusty the 2 year old Golden Retriever owned by Lily and Jim Wilson. Rusty is still a puppy who "wasn't going to be invited to join the canine mensa chapter anytime soon". The Wilsons cashed in their retirement savings and left Illinois to open an inn in Silver Springs, Colorado. They plan on opening the Bluebell Inn in time for the Silver Springs Flower & Garden Festival. They quickly befriend the residents of Silver Spring including their new cook Nell and young housekeepers Hannah and Susie. Unfortunately after Rusty runs amok in their next door neighbor Oscar Tibbet's garden causing an argument with Jim, Tibbet is found stabbed to death. Tibbet was not a beloved member of the community so there are an unlimited amount of murder suspects. Jim Wilson is the one accused however! Wanting to clear her husband, Lily begins some amateur sleuthing. I really enjoyed this mystery. It has a small town setting, some very likable characters, a loveable pet, and a mystery to solve. It is a clean story with the hint of a romance for Hannah. After reading The Grumpy Neighbor's Grave Mistake, I look forward to future books in the series.
I really enjoyed this and was happy that every so often there can be a happily married couple at the helm running a business instead of the usually widowed lady or woman fresh off a terrible divorce/relationship as probably the majority of cozies have. And Rusty, what a scamp of a pup! He sure knew how to be cute but got the neighbor super mad at him.
Lily and Jim were so cute in how they enjoyed their space and separate activities but loved each other so much Lily even risked breaking the law to get her hubby sprung from being accused of murder. I liked the entire inn team they hired too and can’t wait to borrow the next book on KU when it’s out.
I throughly enjoyed the Maple Creek Mystery Series. I am looking forward to the last book #7 in that series that comes out next week. Meanwhile I started the Silver Springs Cozy series. I enjoyed the twist and turns in book #1. The only negative was that there were so many characters in this book. That is one of the reasons I enjoyed the Maple creek series since it had only a handful of new characters in each book. I am ready to start book 2 Thank you, Robert Ericksen
