Age of Vampires #1

Eternal Reign

Rate this book
The vampire prince has never claimed a human. Until now.

My whole life I’ve been nothing but a means to an end; livestock kept caged for the production of blood. I’ve stared through fences at the promise of freedom countless times, but the only way anyone escapes this hell is in the hands of a bloodsucker.

The annual testing is about to begin, and those who pass are never seen again. So fu*k that. My twin and I decided to risk it all. To run before the royals could claim us.

Turns out, that dream expired fast. Because when an original vampire decides to own you, there’s nowhere in this ruined world left to escape to.

I’m at his mercy now, trapped in his castle, destined to become his creature, and forced into a dangerous game of rivalry between the seductive vampire princes.

His beauty is a weapon I wasn’t prepared for, his cruelty a bane that strikes fear in the hearts of all, and his company a sin I’m going to spend my life repenting.

I need to get back to my sister, but she’s caught in a trap of her own, tangled up with the last slayer to walk this earth and following his path towards vengeance. She’s at his mercy too, the man with violence tattooed across his skin, death trailing his footsteps as he stalks his prey - who just so happen to be the royal vampires who hold me captive.

The gods are toying with us all, placing my twin and I on opposite sides of an ancient war. And in the end, I fear there won’t be any victors left standing.

So I’m going to play a game of my own, let my captor use me as his puppet until I find my moment to strike.

Let this hell-born ritual of lust, lies and blood begin.

**This is a dark, fantasy romance series by the authors of Zodiac Academy with all the enemies to lovers vibes – don’t go expecting a sweet vampire with sparkling skin and a tendency to watch you sleeping. These vampires are savage and bloodthirsty, and the slayer who hunts them will stab first and ask questions later. This war-torn fantasy world is a brutal bi*ch and only those 18+ have a chance at surviving the darkness lurking between these pages. There’s no well-meaning vampires snacking on Bambies instead of babies, and if they get their teeth into you, you’ll be damn lucky to escape with your life and panties intact. So grab hold of your slayer blade (wooden stakes have too many splinters) and get ready to defy the gods, because this is going to be one helluva ride***

2.5 stars✨

A generous rating imo given how bad the first half was.

✔️ Enemies to lovers
✔️ Dystopian setting
✔️ Dual POV

So in a world where vampires rule, we follow the journey of twin sisters- Callie and Montana, who along with their father live in Realm G, controlled by vampires. Their motive is simple- to survive and be free but their lives will be changed as they get separated and one of them gets chosen by the vampire prince.

The plot sounds simple enough. I was intrigued cause of the dystopian setting and of course the vampires. The first half drags and the second half is decently paced. The second half showed a lot of promise but not enough to make me forget the first half.

My issue yet again with the twisted sisters is their writing. Idk why they want to write mature themes in an immature manner. Don't get me wrong, they do have the talent to write well but lately it's mostly been subpar. They really need to start working on writing a bit maturely.

The story is told in the dual pov of the sisters. I absolutely hated Callie's pov as she had not much to offer. Callie talks like a ten year old kid who just learned how to swear. She also seems like a numbhead. She is angry at the treatment of humans and rightfully so, but the way she projects is without any rational thinking. It's like a kid who had sugar rush and not in a good way. I skimmed through her chapters in the first half. Her chapters were made bearable by Magnar. Magnar is a vampire slayer. He brought a lot of personality and life to Callie's non existent one. His history seems interesting to me.

Montana's chapters were interesting. I found her to be a more balanced person compared to her sister. She is clearly conflicted about issues involving vampires but standing face to face with the prince, surely seemed to rock her world. Although I say Montana is better than Callie, it in no way means she has depth to her. Erik, the prince of vampires, seems interesting enough. Ignoring the budding romance, am more looking forward to finding out his true motives.

The romances are too young for me to comment on for now but the chemistry is present between both the couples. The kiss at the end was kinda meh, cause it felt like it came out of nowhere but I'll overlook it.

The ending was underwhelming and abrupt. There should have been more to it and I blame the editing for that.

The book despite its so many flaws, has made me interested enough to see what happens next which honestly comes as a shock to me.

Series:   Age of Vampires #1

“Unbelievable,” Erik exclaimed. “You're given food, fine clothes, a bed in my family's castle and you're threatening to betray me!”
“No, I'm trying to negotiate.”
“You're trying to blackmail me."

I have mixed-up feelings about this, because it took more than half of this book to make me truly curious and invested in the story, but it also sort of reaaaaaaly made me want to read more. I know the sisters and I've loved everything I've read from them so far and, since this book has less than 300 pages, it's actually a very short novel for them, so maybe not having enough pages is why I'm just beginning to care about the characters. But, even if it wasn’t a 5 star read, I'll definitely pick up the next book because the story is super intriguing and I want to see it reach its full potential. The sisters never let me down and I don't think they will start doing so with this series either.

》》The Plot《《

In a dystopian world, Vampires rule the world and keep humans utterly under their thumb, separating them in Realms and forcing them to live there, without the option of escaping. After Callie and Montana Ford had their blood taken for the test, their father is convinced they will pass the test and, in fear of loosing them, he decides it's time to run away . But when things go bad, they get separated: Montana gets taken to the Belvedere Royals, their dad is taken to a blood bank and Callie manages to escape, forced by an unknown stranger who protects her and opens her eyes regarding the existence of Slayers, powerful vampire hunters.

“I knew you were a rebel, little human, but Wolfe has now informed me of just how deep that rebellious streak runs. A sister on the run...your father in the blood bank. How chaotic.”

Separately and not knowing what happened to the other, the sisters are determined to do everything in their power to reunite their family. For Callie, that means navigating through the unknown lands outside of the Realms, learning how to fight and secrets about her blood inheritance, while relaying on the dangerous and fascinating Magnar, the last Slayer. For Montana, saving her family comes in the form of agreeing to help Erik, one of the four Belvedere Royals.

"Are you going to choose this year or will you play your usual games, brother?” he growled and Erik straightened, his cold eyes flaring with irritation.
“I rarely play games, Fabian,” Erik said with a glower. “But when I do, I always win.”

The story has a fast pace, with the POV being alternated between the twins. The writing is ok, but not as good as the later books that Caroline and Susanne wrote later on but I'm hoping to see an improvement in the next books.

》》Characters and Relationships《《

👩🏼 Callie Ford

“In your chest beats the heart of a warrior. You will fight for your life and you will win,” he said fiercely.

She reminded me a lot of Rose Hataway from Vampire Academy and I tenede to generally prefer her over Montana, with her determination to find a way out and with her general way of behaving. I'm looking forward to more of her and I'm really curious where her story will take her.

🤺 Magnar Elioson

Well, if you want a dark, mysterious and brooding vampire slayer, Magnar is your man. He was asleep for 900 years and awaken to a world full of technology and new devices and, while being an excellent fighter, he can't really face the entire force of the vampires alone.

👩🏼🤺 Callie and Magnar

He kicked off his boots and removed his trousers next. As he made a move to take off his underwear too, I quickly interrupted him. “Maybe leave something to the imagination there Magnar,” I laughed. “I’m not sure I’m ready to see all of you.”

I love them. They are definitely slow-burn, with some forbidden romance if Callie agrees to accept her blood inheritance and with a future that temporarily links them but, based on their choices, a lot can change.

👩🏻Montana Ford

“You're the first human Erik's ever chosen, you know?”
“Lucky me,” I muttered.

I had mixed feelings about her, and I can't shake the feeling she's a bit dumb, but I enjoy terribly the arc of her story. It's like watching The Selection with vampires and I'm really looking forward to her character development.

🧑🏻‍💼 Erik Belvedere

“No?” Erik echoed, seeming confused by my response. “What kind of human says no to a Belvedere Royal?”
“A kidnapped one.”

I know he's supposed to be all scary, but I can't help but think of him like a cinnamonroll. I love how brooding and clueless he is and also that air of mischief he gets sometimes. I have a feeling Callie and Magnar are going to be my favorite couple, but Erik might be my favorite book boyfriend in this series. Or maybe I'll be proven wrong; I'm waaaay to early in the series to figure it out.

👩🏻🧑🏻‍💼 Montana and Erik

“This isn't going to work if you hate me, Rebel.”
“Then why have you been working so hard all day to make me hate you?”
“That was not my intention.”
“Well it must be your personality then.”

Who doesn't love a little enemies to lovers? I feel like their love story needs some build up, but I'm here to watch it develop.

👩🏻👩🏼 Montana and Callie

"While Montana had always loved the stories he told us because of the romance and magic in them, I’d always loved them for the adventure."

If you've read Zodiac Academy from the sisters, you know what a tight bond share Darcy and Tory and I have a feeling these two are just as tight. We didn't get to see them togheter for a long time, because they got separated pretty early in the story, but they think about each other other enough to know I'll enjoy their sisterly bound when they'll reunite.

》》Favorite Scenes《《

🤺 Magnar killing the redheaded vampire
👩🏻🧑🏻‍💼 Montana being picked by Erik
👩🏼🗡 Callie and Fury
👩🏻🧑🏻‍💼Montana agreeing to do what Erik needed of her if he helped her save her family

“What do you want me to do?”
Erik’s face split into a dark grin. “You're going to pick Fabian at the ball. But before that, you're going to make him want you so badly, he'll be begging you to choose him.”

👩🏼 Callie killing her first vampire
👩🏼🤺Callie and Magnar fighting togheter
💢The mark on Callie's arm
👩🏻Meeting Valentina and her lessons to "loosen" Montana up a little

“That's it,” Valentina encouraged. “Now show him how you adore him. Push your hands into his hair and gaze lovingly into his eyes.”
Yup, it was official. I was gonna throw up.

🤺👩🏼Magnar coming for Callie
🧑🏻‍💼👩🏻Erik taking Montana back when she tried to run away

“Don't run away again,” he whispered and my heart started pounding against my chest as if it was fighting to get closer to him.
“I won't,” I agreed.
“Let's pretend tonight didn't happen,” Erik growled and I nodded, unable to say another word. “Including this.” His mouth met mine and my glowing heart fractured into a thousand shards of stardust. I bathed in the light he ignited inside me, scattering into every corner of my body.

》》Conclusion《《

So far, this book felt like an odd combination of Hunger Games, The Selection and maybe a bit of The Witcher. I feel robbed because it was soooo short and I couldn't form full opinions, but I know I will be sticking with this series.

"A pretty girl can capture his attention for a while, but it is a certain rare breed who can captivate him entirely. I believe you are that breed.”
I snorted in disbelief. “Why?”
He grinned darkly. “You are beautiful, for one. But you are also fiery. And that kind of spark is what some men like in their women. Fabian included. I knew that when you stepped into the courtyard dressed in nothing but your underwear and your face smeared with mascara. Although Fabian would never have picked you in front of our entire royal court for the sake of propriety, I could tell he was tempted.”

"The primal need to survive made even the weakest of mice fight with all the fury of a god."

Wasteland. Vampires. Survive.
Montana and Callie Ford are twins with only one goal: survive.
That is the most important thing.
In a world full of vampires you are only seen as a meal.
And there is nothing you can do about it.
The dreaded day has arrived.
Their blood will be tested.
Where they will be taken next no one knows.
But everyone knows you do not come back.

"Everything in my world was grey, colourless. Except for blood."

As always people the twisted sisters prove time and time again that no matter what they write I will buy it, devour it, and give it 5 stars. AND I AM NOT MAD AT IT!!!
Another thing the sisters excel at is writing twins where I am legit equally interested in both of their storylines and I thank them for that!

"They had taken the blood from our veins time and again, and if there was no hope for me now, then at least let me see their blood spill in kind."

This is set is a world where vampires have taken over and the humans live in realms serving as basically food bags for the vampires. Then once a year, if I am not mistaken, the blood of the humans get tested and that decides if they get sent to the place where no one comes back from.
I MEAN COME ON I AM INVESTED FROM THE FIRST CHAPTER BECAUSE OF COURSE I AM.

"In your chest beats the heart of a warrior. You will fight for your life, and you will win."

The first twin we are introduced to is Callie. She is defined as the "risk taker" and I couldn't help but compare her to Tory but I was not mad. She has amazing quips and she set herself apart from Tory in my opinion fairly quickly. And setting her up to do this like "are we there yet?" hiking trip with Magnar was fucking genius!! Their little banter and back and forth quips even though he didn't understand somethings I was giggling I swear to you and considering there is not a lot of romance in this book that says a lot!! But fuck yes female slayer!! Get your bag!!

"This man was a crossroads, a junction between the life I had and the one I might claim."

Then we have Montana the more "living in a fantasy world" twin which of course I could relate because hello fucking smutty fantasy books so yeah… Being sent to serve as a (basically) human pet to the royal vampires I was like "yes sign me up I want to know what happens" and she fucking stands her ground and I applauded her honestly. We are introduced to the vampire prince who chose her, Prince Erik, and I think it says a lot about me to say that I fell for him from the first appearance, especially considering he hated her and literally had no respect for her but their banter and back and forth I loved!!! (Yes I have issues I know… Moving on….)

"I'd do whatever it took to get my family away from them. Even make a deal with the Devil himself."

This playlist is giving wasteland vampire fantasy romance book and would you look at that… that's exactly what the book is giving… (in addition in the Spotify playlist I included the author's playlist because the twisted sisters make bomb ass playlists).

This book isn't "spicy", I know it is supposed to get hotter as the series goes, so here are just some cool quotes ✌️

"Humanity's greatest weakness is ignorance. But the cure to ignorance is knowledge."

"It was intoxicating that power, a small taste of what I might claim if I were to truly become a slayer. To become the thing feared by those creatures who I'd spent my entire life fearing."

"Freedom was the only dream we had, and it only existed away from the vampires."

Quite possibly one of the worst books I’ve ever read. It sounds like it was written by a 12 year old girl who has slightly above average intelligence for her age. The prose tries to be purple at times (and fails miserably) with constant flowery metaphors and similes. They end up just coming off as shallow and laughable. There’s so much peppering of swearing and crude moments that are meant to be off-the-cuff and funny, but it just sounds like a teenager learning to swear for the first time. The concept could have been really cool, and I love a good vampire book. This one has two twin sisters who live in a dystopian world where vampires rule and humans are kept like abused cattle. They end up separated, one goes with the vampires and one with the vampire hunters. If it had been even slightly well-written, I would have loved this despite minor flaws. Unfortunately; the flaws were not minor. I wouldn’t have made it past the first chapter if I wasn’t reading this as someone’s pick for our traveling book club. I hate picking apart books but I truly don’t know who is rating this book so highly.

This book? THIS BOOK?! It devoured me. It possessed me. I AM ITS CREATURE NOW.

👨‍👧 CHARACTERS
The Twisted Sisters? I don’t know what kind of dark magic they weave, but whenever they do a dual POV from two sisters, it slaps. These sisters have completely different personalities, and you feel it in every damn word. The way their voices are distinct, the way they make you care, it’s actual wizardry. They took their time building these characters, and it SHOWS. This isn’t some rushed, half-baked nonsense. They nailed it. Absolutely nailed it.

🌎 WORLD-BUILDING & MAGIC
This world is brutal. Post-apocalyptic, dark, and dangerously immersive. Humans as cattle? Chilling. The urban fantasy elements? Sharp and fresh, never overwhelming. It’s gritty, it’s raw, and it pulls you in without drowning you in details.
It’s giving Zodiac Academy but without the cringe and more refined.

♥️ WHAT I LOVED – The pacing? OBSESSED. The dual POV? ELITE. Two intertwining storylines that actually work? RARE. And let me just SCREAM about this for a second—THERE IS NOT A SINGLE OUNCE OF SPICE IN THIS BOOK (there will be a later Books don’t worry). NONE. But do I care? ABSOLUTELY NOT. Because the tension? The build-up? The slow burn that has me FOAMING AT THE MOUTH?! They get it. They understand that I don’t want my characters kissing in book one. I want PAIN. I want LONGING. I want suffering. And they DELIVER. It’s giving enemies to lovers. It’s giving reluctant allies to lovers.. IT’S GIVING EVERYTHING.

💔 WHAT I DIDN’T LIKE – HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA NOTHING. ZERO NOTES.

📝 OVERALL THOUGHTS
If you want fast-paced, slow-burn, high-stakes, tension-filled, vampire-infested PERFECTION, then drop everything and read this immediately. I don’t care what’s on your TBR. I don’t care if you had plans today. This book demands to be read.

"Although the idea of escape was terrifying, it was also the realization of a dream I'd never dared to believe in before."

In a future world ruled by vampires, humans are now in an abusive and injustice captivity known as realms where their lives are defined by their blood. But when twins Callie and Montana pass the test that decides their fate they rebel against it, doing what no human has ever done before, escape the realm. But the girls are torn apart sending them in two different dangerous journeys. One in the hands of a fierce warrior and the other trapped in a terrifying ritual run by the royal vampires. Can they find each other before it's too late or are their fates sealed by the deadly man that shadow them?

⤷ I really enjoyed the world creating in this book and how Caroline was able to create a very different yet captivating world compared to her other vampire novels!

⤷ The thing about books with two points of views or different journeys is that it's either a hit or miss. Which was the case for me in this book, I was more captivated by Montana's story than Callie. Whenever it was Callie's chapter I would read it at a faster pace than usual just so I could read more about Montanna's story but that doesn't mean that I did not enjoy reading about Callie!

⤷ Erick was definitely my favorite love interest out of the two, guess I might have a thing for bitter, broody and misunderstood vampires, can't wait for his character development in the next few books!

⤷ I loved how Callie was so strong, resilient and how there is nothing she would not do to protect her family whereas Montanna was more of the quieter one but very rebellious and just as strong!

⤷ There is so much intense ancient background with these sisters which will further complicate things for these characters and cannot wait to read about it!

⤷ I haven't read any of Susanne Valenti's books but after reading this one I will totally be getting to them soon!

"Their beauty was beyond eye-catching; it nearly stole your breath"

I would definitely recommend this book for anyone looking for an easy fast-paced book filled with kickass characters and heart-warming kinda forbidden romance!

Thank you, Caroline Peckham and Susanne Valenti, for providing a copy of this book for an honest review! :)

So are you telling me there was a story where the protagonists are two twins (no not Tory and Darcy, but two completely different ones), an acient cruel and clueless vampire and a just-awoke-from-a-long-sleep vampire slayer? Well I´m sold!

The Twisted Sisters never dissapoint and I must tattoo this phrase somewhere because after having real almost everything from them I am sure of it.

In this story we follow Callie and Montana, two twins from Realm G, a realm fully controlled by vampires, where humans are used just as blood bags and nothing more.

The book is written from the two twins POVs and from the very chapters we see immediately their personalities. In the beginning I was worried they were too similar to my ZA girls, but ABSOLUTELY NOT.
At first we meet the sisters in their home in Realm G, soon to embark in to completely different storylines when the two are divided.

Montana, the one that is more prone to daydream of a fantay world, was a revelation. I loved everything about her and her story, Every interaction with Prince Eric was spot on and I am already craving more. - yes I know he is toxic and mean but sorry not sorry, I love him-
Callie started strong and her journey it´s super interesting plot wise, mainly after she and Magnar start opening up to each other, it adds so many layers, but eventually her personality got a bit lost in my opinion.

A think that I loved in the narration it´s all the small differences in between the characters and world buiding, like for example:
Eric - Vampire, Royal Family from Realm A, knows everyhing about technology
Magnar - Viking vampire slayer, sleept for hundreds of years, doesn´t know anything about the new contemporary world
Callie and Montana - Humans, poor, only contact with technology was from what their father said about the world before the war.
I know it´s just details but they really shows how well thought it´s this book. I loved it!

Here the romance was very little, we can defenetly read the connection in between the couples but nothing happens, there is no spice… for now…

The Zodiac Academy series is one of my FAVORITES of all time and after reading it I knew I needed to read their backlist and everything going forward that they write. So, I added some of their books to my TBR jar and randomly picked ETERNAL REIGN! This is such a fun take on the vampire trope! Instead of it being a world where vampires roam among humans this book shows a world where Vampires run the world and humans are mere meat to them. I’d like to say this is a post-apocalyptic read but I’m not 100% sure if so don’t quote me. In any event it’s SO GOOD. I read this in one sitting and immediately purchased paperback copies of the next three books!

This series follows twin girls who both end up on completely opposite sides of the vampire chain- one is taken in by the Royals and another gets separated from her family (she’s really on the run) and ends up teaming up with a Vampire SLAYER. I won’t say more because I don’t want to spoil it but it’s exciting and I think this series is going to be amazing! One thing I will say though is that it does start off a little slow and the romance isn’t there yet in this book. However, it does set the stage for how the series is going to play out, so I recommend anyone who finds it drab to keep going. I promise it’s worth it!

This book was a bit of a wild ride (though definitely not on the level of ZA). I liked Callie and Montana though they were really annoying at times (especially Callie). I didn't really care about Callie and Magnor's romance but Montana and Erik's completely stole the show for me (maybe it's because they're actual enemies and they absolutely despise each other but they're still attracted to each other at the same time). I'm going to read book 2 soon because even though I didn't love this one I'm really interested in seeing where this series goes. Also I listened to most of the audiobook and it was a pretty good one so I would recommend listening to it. RTC.
Eternal reign follows Callie and Montana who are twin sisters. They're humans that are living in a world where vampires are far above them in power and status. The humans are basically starving and they are also prisoners of the vampires. Callie and Montana wish for nothing more than to escape their realm and finally be free for the first time in their lives. They soon catch the attention of the vampires of the area and they and their dad come up with a plan to escape their realm. They soon after attempt to escape but Montana and their dad are caught up the vampires. Callie only manages to save because she is rescued by a warrior called Magnor. He is a slayer of vampires who just woke up from a 1000 year sleep. Magnor's only motivation in the world is to get revenge for the ways he has been wronged by the species in the past. Meanwhile Montana ends up in a aeroplane so that she can been delivered to the royals, who are the four most powerful vampires. She then gains the attention of Prince Erik and he chooses her, which means that she'll eventually become his wife even though she doesn't want to be. I liked this book but it definitely took me a while to get into. I tried to read it a few times and I eventually switched to the audiobook, though I finished it on my kindle. I've now read the second book and I'm more than halfway through the third book so I can say that the series gets better and that I'm really connected to the characters and their romances.

Sisters Montana and Callie, were born after the Vampires took over, and so even as they hear stories of what once was from their father, the world they were born in to and are forced to endure is filled with hunger, cruelty, fear and isolation – where humans are considered nothing more than cattle. The vampires consider them to be less than nothing, deeming them not to be sentient beings. When they along with their father are caught attempting to escape the realm, the family is separated, but both sisters are determined to reunite with their father and refuse to let the vampires crush them.

Montana, given the unwanted nickname of Monty by Callie, is my favourite of the sisters at present. She is more strategic in her thinking, whereas Callie has a habit of rushing into something not paying heed to the long-term consequences. Both are rebels but in different ways. Vampire royal Erik and slayer Magnar are characters which ensure things will remain interesting and complicated for each sister.

The author has done well in constructing a whole new world, which in some ways is a marked departure from the world she built in the Vampire Games series. This book has me interested in continuing on and seeing what will happen as Montana and Callie go forward, and take what will clearly be distinctively different paths, but I will say that this book didn’t have the same energetic pace and tension found in Peckham’s Vampire Games series.

I’m kind of struggling with this one because I loved it in the end but it took me almost a month to read it and it’s only 400 pages. I think the next book will be even better and a little more fast paced. I think this was maybe just a lot of setup. But I’m excited to read this series! It kind of had the walking dead vibes but with vampires ruling over humans. So 0 zombies. It was just dystopian.. that’s actually all it had in common with twd lol

These authors can do no wrong in my opinion.

Some things to expect inside:
~ First person
~ Dual POV
~ Enemies… right now but also reluctant allies
~ Slow burn for days
~ 🧛

This book may have taken me a month to read but these authors hit every single time and leave no crumbs. I love the writing style. The way they build their worlds is always amazing. I love the little hints at mythology. The characters are all perfect.

The twins are both great characters and I love them both equally. Callie is a little bit more up my alley but Montana is just as good. Choosing a favorite just isn't possible right now. They're both so ride or die for each other. One of my favorite things about these authors is how consistent they stay with the personalities of characters. Not only is the romance a slow burn but so is the character development. We get to see them change slowly over time. Callie will do anything for her sister. She throws herself right into it for her, while Montana is doing the best she can.

The MMC’s are both just so yum. Magnar and Erik cannot be more different but just like the twins, picking a favorite can't happen right now.

I love the mystery aspect of this book as well. The “what’s really happening here?”. This book isn't how it seems and I can't wait to find out more.

When your back was against the wall, you found out what your soul was made of, and I'd learned long ago that mine had been forged in fire and ferocity.

4.5 stars!

This novel was a nonstop, high-speed train filled with kickass heroines, unfaltering love for family, and ancient warriors battling against vampires who....care? Throughout this rewrite of the Age of Vampires series, Caroline and Susanne manage to create a completely new vampiric world with different rules and political power players that are not all who they appear to be and leave us breathless for more.

In a future world that is ruled severely by vampires, humans are seen for the value of their blood and nothing more. After their family is torn apart by their desire to escape their fates, Callie and Montana are taken down two completely different paths that will change their fates. We have Callie, the sister who is bathed in sunlight and is desperate to fight back. She was born to be a warrior and wants to play an active role in helping to rescue her father and sister from the clutches of the vampires. On the other hand, we have Montana (my favorite of the two sisters) who is Callie's shadow. She is quieter in her rebellious tendencies but is by no means complacent in her determination to strike back.

I was completely captivated as Montana is thrust into an unfamiliar world and surrounded by the creatures she has hated her entire life. (And I will forever be a sucker for a tortured, broody, bitter, and reluctantly intrigued vampire, so Erik is just my type.) Callie's adventures also add in another layer into the sisters' stories, further complicating their relationship as they are unknowingly recruited to different sides of an ancient battle. Despite the fact that this first novel is still a little tame, you can definitely feel the Twisted Sister's voices more clearly, and I'm so excited to see how the rest of the series continues to evolve with each new book!

Tropes: enemies-to-lovers, grumpy/sunshine, hate-to-love-you, brooding anti-hero, strong heroine, morally grey hero, heroine with secret past, forbidden love, dystopian setting, vampire royalty, slow burn, mild cliffhanger (part of a series), PG spice for now...

My Erik, displaying his frustration, annoyance, and reluctant curiosity with Montana the Rebel... :)

My Magnar, Blessed Crusader and badass Warrior of the Sun...

I don't know why I tried this. I don't like dystopia. But this is one of the few CP & SV series that is not a harem romance (sorry, I do not like reading harem series), unfortunately, that was not enough to keep me interested. Didn't really like the twins or the set up of the story and the writing was crappy. At least Zodiac Academy was interesting enough to make up for the cliches.

After reading the ZA universe, I knew I wanted to read the rest of the Twisted Sister's books. I had no clue what I was getting myself into with this one. I just knew it had vampires, lol.

I've not read many dystopian books, so this one took me a bit to get into. I got sucked in though at about the 30% mark.

I'm so intrigued about what is going on. I'm still not exactly sure on what the roles are of everyone, but I'm here for the ride.

I have so many questions, though. I'm starting to question how human the girls actually are and what role that will play in everything. Same with Erik. I'm super intrigued by him.

Not great but ok in a pinch I suppose. Not exactly a glowing recommendation but I’ll give the next in the series a go.

'When your back was against the wall, you found out what your soul was made of, and I’d learned long ago that mine had been forged in fire and ferocity.'

Review:
This book is written in dual POV, following twin sisters Callie and Montana. They live in a futuristic dystopian world ruled by vampires.

While the story started a little slow with a lot of worldbuilding and info-dumping, but once I got hooked, I was hooked bad. I flew through the last 50% because I couldn’t stop thinking about it, and still can’t.

I really liked the FMC's, who are both pretty badass, and also the MMC's. One of them reminded me of Geralt from The Witcher, but make him a Viking. The other gave off Damon vibes from TVD but with the looks of Dorian from TOG, he was so arrogant and sassy.

The dystopian world was also unique. Imagine if the Volturi from Twilight were royals ruling over America. There’s also a touch of Norse mythology thrown into the mix, so I’m curious to see what's the story behind that in the next books.

I’m really excited about the rest of this series and hope to be back with a review of book 2 soon!

So I found this pretty hard to stay hooked z it was a little slow paced due to the world building (but obviously because of where the story is set this is essential).

The last 3rd of the book picked up and became more interesting.

Both Callie, Montana and their father have been separated after their failed attempt of an escape from realm G.

Callie has teamed up with a slayer that has slept for 1000 years and Montana has been chosen by the vampire prince.

Both sisters are fighting to get back to each other and save their father but being thrown into impossible circumstances means making unlikely alliances with enemies and strangers.

I’m going into book 2 now. I love the twisted sisters and their worlds they create so I will keep on with the story.

Two twin sisters are separated - one is captured by a vampire and one ends up alongside a vampire slayer, and the sisters are just trying to find their way back to each other. This story is CRAZY, I really enjoyed this post-apocalyptic modern plot, and the fact that both female characters are fierce and finding their strength. You will definitely hate both MMCs for a while but… I’ll just be patient.
This series has stolen all of my attention for the time being.
Onto book two ✌🏼

As I understand it, this was the first book the sisters co-wrote, and it’s definitely nowhere near as angsty and spicy as their subsequent series.

Vampires are in charge, and humans are locked within Realms, which are basically fenced in cities within the US. When a vampire commander comes into the Realm of our twin FMCs to test the blood of certain people, the girls know this is their last chance to attempt escape with their father, or face the deadly consequences of being selected.

DNF 20%.
Bro. I was so bored. The world build was so basic. It’s probably an amazing book but realistically I’m not going to go back to reading this book anytime soon. So I’m DNFing this book.

No rating cause I don’t really have any strong feelings about it ngl.

*Before reading*

I saw Vampires, low amount of books in this series, and the Kings of Quarantine authors and screamed. AND it’s on Kindle Unlimited
