Curl: A sheep hunting story

In 2022 I drew one of Colorado’s coveted Rocky Mountain bighorn sheep hunting permits. I had no idea what I was getting myself into. I knew little to nothing about hunting Bighorn sheep, or the high alpine country they inhabit. Knowing that I was unprepared I solicited the help of a couple of friends to join me.This is the story of what it took to get there and what happened when we did. Through triumph and loss, I got a better understanding of one of the animals that are one of America’s conservation success stories.I hope you enjoy the story, and if one day you’re fortunate enough to draw a tag yourself, I hope this helps you in your pursuit.

This is not the usual type of book I read. I am not a hunter and knew little about hunting prior to reading this book. Dwight is a gifted storyteller. His writing is relatable and filled with imagery that gives you the feeling you are right there with him in the wilderness along for the adventure. It is a quick read because I couldn’t put it down and read most of it in one day.
