A War For Mutants: The New Soldier
Many people's lives are in danger, especially those of the mutant race. Sentry Run, a military organization, is trying to seize control of many cities. Making it impossible for anyone with abilities to maintain their existence. Mutants are people that have exceptional abilities. Sentry Run believes that mutants should be exterminated for the sake of a better world, rather than fearing anybody who could use their ability for evil. They were merciless in their quest, even killing non-mutants if they didn't agree with their ideas. They have conquered a large number of regions. Sentry Run is opposed by Art Gun, a minor military force. A group of individuals working alongside mutants to win the battle and live in a world of opportunity where mutants and non-mutants can coexist in peace. However, they seem to have become nearly hard to resist them. Sentry Run's army is mostly focused on superior technology, which allows them to build robots and provide excellent protection against any kind of mutant. Art Gun can only hope that they discover mutants capable of defeating Sentry Run's army before it's too late.

Tengo que admitir que soy un lector muy facil de complacer. Siempre y cuando el tema y el genero sea uno de mí interés, el libro tendrá mi atención. Este fue prescisamente el caso con "A war for mutants" Desde que leí la premisa supe que sería de mi agrado y así lo fue. Genuinamente supero mis expectativas y hasta logró sorprenderme con cierta dirección que tomó la historia.
El libro es facil de leer y entender. Tanto así que el mismo día que levanté el libro lo terminé. Aveces no es necesario inventar la rueda, solo basta con ponerla a correr.
La única crítica que puedo tener es que es muy corto y me dejó con ganas de saber más sobre el mundo, más sobre los personajes, más sobre la historia. En fín, me dejó con ganas de más. Pero, al fin y al cabo, ese es la meta de todo autor, dejar al lector con ganas de más, no?

Este libro te atrapa desde las primeras líneas. Lo leí súper rápido y simplemente amé a los personajes (cómo me hicieron reír). Este primer libro te deja con intrigas y con ganas de saber más. Lo recomiendo para todos aquellos que les gusta disfrutar de una historia corta, ligera y súper entretenida. Es una historia militar con un toque de ciencia ficción que mezcla los poderes de personas (los mutantes) y máquinas diseñadas para matar.

This was an entertaining story from start to finish. I loved how in such few chapters you get to see the character development of Zenrot and how you begin to see how he thinks and feels about what's coming ahead.
Zenrot, Ryan, and Mr. Han became my favorite characters. If something bad happens to Ryan, I ride at dawn! 🤣
I can't wait to continue with the second book. If you're looking for a fast-paced and entertaining story, you should read this book.

Hace un tiempo decidí comprar el libro ya que lo ví promocionado en las redes. Se me hizo interesante porque venía de un autor puertorriqueño y tocaba una temática muy similar a los X-men, lo cual cabe perfecto en lo que consumo. Wow, pero que abrumador fue terminar un libro de 177 páginas y ver qué es puro relleno y con tematicas superficiales y ni hablar de una historia, no tan solo superficial si no que cliché. El libro es un 98% de capítulos repetitivos de training, como vas a tener un libro tan corto y lleno de training? Eso hizo toda la experiencia aún mas aburrida, y dejo muy poco espacio para traer algo original a la mesa.
Los personajes son predecibles, nada interesantes y casi parecían ser cartoons de las dimensiones tan pobres que tienen. Me sorprende la gente que le dan 5 estrellas, porque entiendo apoyar a tu amigo o familiar, o si son lectores regulares (necesitan leer mejores libros) porque esto es lo que provoca es que el autor se mantenga en una burbuja y no mejore el producto que está trayendo al público consumidor. Pero lamentablemente esto no es un 5 estrellas. La historia no te engancha, no tiene nada adictivo y sufre del "héroe principal" ya saben, el chico especial, el raro, el underdog, y esto es traído dela manera más cliché posible. Pienso que el autor debe encontrar su centro con esta historia y trae algo de calidad para sus lectores.

Lamentablemente esta es una historia que nunca despega. Para ser un libro tan corto, tiene pocas cosas interesantes. Las temáticas son superficiales, al igual que la historia, lo que lo hace parecer ver súper apegado a un blueprint, y no rompe ningún molde. Esto provoca que todo sea extremadamente predecible.
Los personajes no traen nada especial a la mesa, fuera de que se desarrolla una relación como de padre e hijo entre dos personajes, los personajes se pierden dentro de capítulos repetitivos, que terminan sin ningún tipo de gancho para luego volver a repetir.
Todo el libro se siente como un relleno y me encontré arrastrando las páginas, lo que es una pena para un libro tan corto.
También siento que la ambientación está un poco all over the place y los personajes de momento cambian a actitudes más anime, con personalidades clichés que vemos en estos. Es una pena porque podría tener mucho potencial si lograra tomar esta temática y hacerla suya, pero este no es el caso.

Interesting, i really liked it though i wish the book was longer so I can have more time with these characters. I liked Zenrot and his wiseass attitude, his relationship with Major Ryan was the best part of the book in my opinion. I was honestly scared that Ryan was gonna die in this book but i’m glad he’s still around. I knew that General Arashi was sus af but i still don’t understand his motivations. I wish we get more world building in the next book.

Hace ya unos días decidí sentarme a leer este libro que desde que lo vi estaba muy entusiasmado por saber de que trataba. Su titulo me llamo la atención desde el principio. No soy de hacerme expectativas con ningún libro o película porque siempre eh llegado a la conclusión que eso te puede dañar la experiencia. Lamentablemente aquí caí en mi error y que bueno. Imagine una cosa y el autor hizo que entendiera que no era como yo creía y me encanto. El autor Alberto Cruz Pérez nos trae el primero de una saga que me dejo queriendo saber más sobre nuestro protagonista Zenrot. En un mundo alternativo donde siempre pensé que todo estaba sucediendo en el futuro nuevamente el autor me sorprende dejándome saber que no era así.
La historia comienza en una batalla entre ART GUN Y SENTRY RUN por el bienestar de los pocos mutantes que aun quedan en la tierra. La búsqueda de un nuevo mutante que sea capaz de ayudar a detener aquello había sido cuesta arriba hasta que por fin encuentran al indicado. Una historia de amistad llena de intrigas donde el protagonista luego de haber perdido la memoria cree fielmente en que todo se puede arreglar en el mundo aceptando el entrenamiento más vil que jamás hubiera imaginado, llevándolo a conseguir no solo un crecimiento como soldado de aquella coalición sino a aprender lo importante de lo que es el compromiso y la responsabilidad. La historia te engancha desde el principio y no quieres terminar hasta saber como termina todo el protagonista luego de tantas intrigas y entrenamiento. Un detalle super importante es que el libro esta en Español e Inglés.

Let's see... First of all, congratulations to the author for having the book published. That's not an easy task to achieve, and I've heard lots of this book.
Now that being said, I have to start saying that I love the idea of the story... the X-Men mutant thing bait definitely worked, BUT I think that for a book so short, the story never really developed and didn't really go anywhere. Half of the book is endless training sequences, and the other half is divided between the father-son relationship the characters have and how the war is being manipulated by both sides of it, when the plot started to thicken... it ended. The lack of other characters and how some of them are just passing shadows took a lot from the story since we're always seeing the same three or four characters interact it eventually gets tiresome. While I understand this is the first book, and it was somehow setting the plot, it was never really set completely for the reader, and in the end, it made more questions than it answered. Something that is being showcased a lot during the story is how the protagonist is this all-mighty underdog yet we never get to really see the extent of his power just little glimpses here and there WE NEED MORE MUTANT "MAGIC" (LOL) The ending was fine... but I also saw it coming since page one.
I am looking forward to the next one, I KNOW Alberto will shut us up the middlegrounders.

Bueno lo compre a la mano del autor y mis preguntas fueron sencillas:
¿De que trataba?, ¿Cuál fue el idioma original en el que lo escribió? Y si el mismo lo había traducido. Y en lo que respecta a la última pregunta me contesto que no que lo traducido otra persona y que el lo reviso lo mejor que pudo.
Y lamentablemente perdió una estrella debido a esa falta de ortografía constante principalmente letras faltantes o simplemente no tenia sentido la forma en la que se estructuraba el dialogo algo que sinceramente es muy importante y mas cuando se menciona que el libro fue traducido por un externo el cual seguramente obtuvo una ganancia por su trabajo.
Ahora respecto a la trama sinceramente me cautivo mucho al principio y como siempre hago con todo releo el titulo una y otra vez. Por lo que desde un principio me imagine que se iba a tratar como ese soldado iba a adaptarse en el campo de batalla y como se iba volviendo mejor en lo que hacia por lo que no se me hizo cansino el entrenamiento ni nada ya que fue lo que espere.
Eso si por favor, espero un mínimo 5 libros (contando este) para ver como sigue la historia y que va a suceder en esta épica batalla.
Recomendación:
Si van a leer este libro se los recomiendo solo tengan en cuenta que no van a ver mucho desarrollo histórico debido a que es un comienzo.

I dig the book, although I think the next follow up needs to have radical changes. 98% of the book is spent on the main character’s training. It sort of felt like the entire plot was driven only by getting stuck in the exposition of the book. No rising action, climax, FA or even a resolution.
I think the author really has a great idea. Nevertheless, the next book has to have some sort of “bang” in order for him to keep readers entertained.
I’m all in to read the next book, given that I want to support indie speculative fiction writers from Puerto Rico. Still, I’d the next book does have a similar plot line where the author gets stuck in one portion of the plot (i.e. exposition and info platters) I won’t be continuing with the third book.
Usually this happens with first books. I’m hopeful to see it fixed in the next given that the author will have more experience with his writing.
I gave the book 3 stars because the idea is really good. If it actually had moved forward from the exposition issue, then most likely it would’ve been a solid 3.5.

Tuve la oportunidad de conocer al autor en la feria de libros 100x35, y entre tantos buenos escritores, este libro fue el que más me llamó la atención.
La historia me gustó mucho, especialmente los personajes de Zenrot y el Mayor Ryan, que se ganaron mi corazón desde el principio. Sin embargo, sentí que el libro se quedó un poco corto. Me dio la impresión de que estaba leyendo solo la mitad de una historia, y me hubiese encantado que fuera más largo para poder sumergirme más en este mundo.
Estoy especialmente intrigada por la tensión entre Ryan y el General. Tengo miedo de que el General termine matando a Ryan, ya que él está protegiendo a Zenrot, y claramente el General tiene otros planes para él. No parece que tenga en mente proteger a los mutantes…
¡Me quedé con muchas preguntas, pero espero que el segundo libro las responda! Definitivamente quiero seguir leyendo esta historia. 3.5 ⭐️

Este fue un libro que me llamó la atención por su portada y decidí leerlo. Para mi gusto en lo personal el libro fue muy corto, pero debo admitir que tiene sus ventajas y desventajas.
Desventaja: Para tener 11 capítulos solamente, la mayoría fueron entrenamiento militar que por un momento llega a ser monótono. Llega a ocasionar un poco de duda dentro de la lectura.
Ventaja: Hay uno que otro capitulo me deja curiosidad de seguir leyendo, debido a las acciones de uno que otro personaje. Que llegue al final fue como me dejo curiosidad que viene después. Me dejó saber que viene una continuidad.
Ante todo, veo que la historia podría tener algo de potencial, espero que para los próximos libros tenga un poco más de acción y trama.

In a world where war has broken society into two sides, we get to meet an amazing mutant and see him grow into an amazing soldier. Sentry Run aims to eliminate all mutants. Art Gun fights for equality.
We meet Zenrot, a mutant that doesn’t remember his past, and Major Ryan, a veteran whose mission is to make Zenrot the best soldier.
As the relationship between Ryan and Senrot grows, I grew attached to them as they embarked in their journey toward creating the best soldier not only in physical terms, but emotionally.
We get to see two strangers push forward against all odds and fight together against their enemy.
Can’t wait to start the second book, see what Zenrot will do , and meet the other mutants.

Primero que todo, felicidades al autor por publicar un libro, ya que esto no es un task facil.
Soy todo sobre el apoyo a escritores locales, pero también tengo que ser honesta con el material que llega a mis manos. Había pasado por los reviews anteriormente y había visto los de 5 estrellas, por eso me animé a comprarlo, pero ahora entiendo que fueron de dirección errónea. La historia es muy corta y en muchos casos aburrida, es una pena porque se leía como una trama épica, pero nos deja a deber mucho. Espero que los siguientes libros puedan abarcar la historia de una mejor manera.
Realmente fue una lectura difícil de terminar, porque no causaba ningún tipo de emoción o intriga.

I loved this so much!
With two books already out and a third on the way (fingers crossed for 2026!), this series follows a mutant caught in the middle of an all-out war between humans and mutants—rising to become one of the strongest soldiers fighting for peace… or so he thought.
This story had me hooked from page one! With epic battles, unique abilities, and a cast of unforgettable characters, I couldn’t stop flipping pages, eager to uncover their backstories and roles in this wild, war-torn world.

Me encanta la portada del libro, está muy bien hecha en lo que podría decirse la descripción del personaje principal. Me encanta la ambientación de ciencia ficción, ya que no muchos autores puertorriqueños utilizan el género de ciencia ficción con un poco de fantasía como subgénero. Lo más que me dejó intrigado fue del final del libro que deja con las ganas de saber a uno que viene después. Espero ya poder tener el segundo libro.

I was surprised how much I enjoyed this book!!! Not the typical book I usually read, but I personally know the author so this was a must. It had me biting my nails and left me craving for more just in time cause the sequel is already available and I need to know whats next. It doesn’t matter what your reading preferences are, the author’s ability to capture your attention from start to finish with the feeling of excitement is outstanding. Highly recommend!!!

A New story, a new world, I enjoyed every second of this book, the author gives us an incredible concept of survival, I already told him, that at the very beginning of the book I had so many questions, now I have more, I’m looking forward to buying the Second Book. I know the author since College and I’m so proud of the world he has created with A War For Mutants and I wish him the best always. That final chapter creates such an impact and leaves us wanting more.

When I tell you I was not expecting the story, I was definitely not expecting it. Zenrot is amazing and I loved how much he grew and he definitely has a special place in my heart same as Major Ryan. It's short but straight to the point. But that ending tho? I need book 2 please. Plus what makes it better is that the author is from PR!!!

Me interesó mucho este libro desde la primera página y lo disfruté bastante. Lo terminé muy rápido porque aunque no tiene demasiada acción te atrapa y entretiene. La relación de ciertos personajes me pareció agradable por la historia que hay detrás. El mundo es interesante, al igual que la fantasía. Espero el segundo libro con ansias.

I really like where this storyline is flowing. Is a little bit slow and repetitive since most of the book is centered in Zenrots training schedules until the end.
However, it is very entertaining and well thought, I hope to get to see more of the character stories, world building and plot in the next books to come.
PS. I grew very attached to Ryan and can't wait to read the rest!

¡Este libro me cautivó! Los personajes están excelentemente desarrollados y el autor logra sumergir al lector en la historia. Es imposible no estar constantemente intrigado por lo que sucederá a continuación. Espero con ansias la publicación de la segunda parte.

I like this concept of mutants and this rebellion. I really loved it. Theres more to explore in this world and i think it’s an opportunity to. If you are into Matrix/Terminator like stories. This is for you. Theres always this mystery that you want to know more about.

This book serves as a strong origin story. It’s slower-paced, but I appreciated the time spent developing the world and showing the emotional and moral growth of the main character. You really get to know what drives him, and how he starts transitioning from ordinary to something extraordinary.
If you love deep character development and stories that build up to a big payoff, Book 1 is a solid start. It left me curious and excited for what was to come in Book 2. THAT CLIFFHANGER!!!
