Ben and Leora were childhood sweethearts madly in love. Until a silly argument that led to Ben storming off and having too much to drink. They kiss and make up the next morning. Then Leora receives a package containing evidence Ben was unfaithful. They split for good and both met other partners and had children. Years later they are both single when tragedy strikes and they meet again. A lovely story of love and tragedy.

A nostalgic beginning moves on to a gripping and relevant read. We follow the characters from teen angst to adulthood, sharing the usual crises of confidence and unrequited love, through relationship failures (of all kinds) with only hints dropped along the way to the shocking climax. The story touches on issues arising from prejudices of the time, such as the early stigma of AIDS, through traumas of loss and life experience, including PTSD.
There are a lot of issues packed into this story, but which of us with similar decades of our own history behind us hasn’t brushed shoulders with most of these in our lives?
Eva doesn’t so much brush shoulders as locks horns with them (excuse my mixed metaphors) carrying them through to a life-changing confrontation.

Only You by Eva Jordan.
Once upon a time, Ben and Leora fell in love and dreamt of a bright future together. But after he committed an unforgivable act, she was left heartbroken. Decades later he still had no memory of that fateful night.
Really good read. Bit of a slow starter. Had to keep putting it down. Good story. 4*.

A stunning and frightening prologue, victim and timing unknown – followed by a couple of opening chapters, set in 2016, capturing what might be a difficult meeting and introducing us to Ben and Leora, with a few clues as to what has brought them to this point. And then the story returns to 1985, and their school days – strong friendships and first love, their absolute clarity about the fact that they were meant to be together, followed by a dreadful betrayal that sees their lives taking separate paths. And we follow their lives over the next thirty years – their careers, their relationships, their losses, their successes and failures – until a horrifying incident brings them back together, and explores what their futures might hold.

There are constants in their lives – the friends from childhood, straight-talking Ali and the more gentle Eileen for Leora, the lovely Dobs for Ben – always there for each other when needed, fading into the background at times as other friendships and alliances come and go. The passage of time is clearly marked – by the way their lives unfold, by the chapter headings, and by the references to contemporary issues and events that sometimes impinge on their lives – and I found the way that was managed absolutely stunning and particularly authentic. And the story is told, albeit in third person, from both their perspectives – as, over the years, we witness their vulnerability and insecurities, their wrong turns and compromises, their frequent regrets, and become deeply involved in their lives.

I will admit that I found the earlier part of the story just a little on the slow side – I mention that only in case you might feel the same – as I’m never a particular fan of coming-of-age stories, but it does provide essential insight into the various individuals and a firm grounding for everything that comes later, where I thought the pacing was never anything but perfect. The emotional content – and the book deals with a number of particularly difficult and hard-hitting issues – is powerful and affecting, sensitively handled but raw and completely heartbreaking at times.

I’m deliberately not retelling any of the story – and it’s so much more than that, as you become drawn in and part of Ben and Leora’s very real lives, finding joy in their special moments, shedding tears when things go wrong – because I think it’s really important to experience its many shocks and surprises. There’s a great deal of love in this book – but there’s plenty of its uglier side too. And there are a number of strong messages – always with that glimmer of hope for a happier future. It was a book I found so difficult to put down – as we all have to, at times – and my thoughts always stayed with the individuals who’d found their places in my heart, desperately hoping that they would have their unlikely happy ending.

This really is an extraordinary piece of writing – entirely engrossing, inspirational and life-enhancing in so many ways, ultimately gloriously uplifting, and totally unforgettable. Very highly recommended – I really loved it, and it might just be one of my books of the year.

The story follows Ben and Leora’s lives over the course of around thirty years. In this time we see many highs and lows for the pair, from falling in love at high school to them breaking up, seeing both of their lives how they evolve over the years until them meeting back up together many years later.

Leora and Ben both have a tight network of friends that have been in their lives since school which was lovely to see. I have to admit I never really took to Ali, who is outspoken and not afraid to speak the truth which could sometimes be unkind. Eileen on the other hand is very sweet but they all have a fierce friendship and stay in touch and meet up as and when they can. Live throws them a lot of curve balls but it was good to see them having each others backs when needed.

The author deals with a lot of serious topics within the story. I don’t really want to say what they are as I think it would be a bit of a spoiler to do so. These issues though make for some heartbreaking and emotional reading and I couldn’t tear myself away from the book as I needed to see how things end with the characters and if Ben and Leora get their happily ever after.

Only You by Eva Jordan is a beautifully written story that captures your heart and mind. You get so engrossed in what is happening to the characters that you feel all of their emotions leap off the page and wash over you. Whilst it is what I would call a gentle read, the topics make it hard hitting and will keep the reader glued to its pages. I’ve read all of this author’s books and this is her best and most powerful one to date. Breathtakingly good!

My thanks to the author for an advanced readers copy of this book. All opinions are my own and not biased in anyway.

A book that drew me in and left me reeling. In the 1980’s Ben and Leora watched Live Aid as they grew up. (as did anyone who was around at the time as it was so ground breaking). In the present day they are very different people and have made lives for themselves, sadly which parts of, have come crashing down. Ben has been in the forces and seen things he’d rather not remember. Leora is just picking up her dream of being a TV presenter but has had a tough life losing several of those close to her in one way or another. When they were young they were torn apart by betrayal. Leora is still feeling hurt by it all and Ben can't remember most of it. Then something dramatic happens to Leora. Can they get together where they belong after everything that’s happened and put the past firmly behind them?

This is a book that slowly draws you in. Chapters initially alternate between the 1980’s and onwards, and present day. There’s a slight mystery to some of it, I won’t give anything away and anyone who remembers the eighties will reel at the description of a certain advert from TV that shook most of us at the time. I took to Ben and Leora, each having their own insecurities in differing ways, each a kind of vulnerability. This is as ever with Eva’s books far more than “just” a story. There are messages, and hope. There’s cruelty and kindness, love and abuse. Thank you Eva for putting in the description of Narcissism which some find themselves at the hands of, not always from partners but those closer to home and the story around the brave and inspirational person that is Katie Piper in real life. A book I won’t forget and one that made me appreciate the little things. Stunning.

This story starts slowly as we gather background information on the main characters. Once I was a quarter of the way through I was thoroughly immersed in a nostalgic love story which had a psychological element.

The chapters at the beginning really brought back teen memories growing up with many references I could relate to. The music choices I loved and played in the background at times which really added to the nostalgic feel to those chapters which I felt really added to the storyline.

It had a few apt quotes and beautifully written sections which were emotional to read but equally heart warming.

I loved the way parts of the story interlaced through the characters lives and found it cleverly written and loved the ‘connections’ on some of those reveals.

This story having been inspired by a strong, brave and courageous lady, I urge you once finished, to read the acknowledgements. This person was who the later part of the story reminded me of so as I read the acknowledgements it was lovely to see the real life connection, had influenced the storyline.

A beautiful novel about love, family, friendship and grief. It’s a compelling read and touching on sensitive subject was written with not only compassion and understanding but also revealed the insecurities and vulnerability the main character had gone through.

Eva Jordan is a stunning writer and reading this has prompted me to read her other novels.

As with any read, I enjoy looking at the extra details included in each book I review. I was delighted with the quote the author included immediately after the sweet dedication.

“Love is composed of a single soul inhabiting two bodies.”
–Aristotle

Such a great quote, I’m forever rooting for the fated mates, twin flames and soulmate characters in romance novels.

This story is told in non linear and linear timelines starting in 2016 and time hopping back to 1985 in which the story progresses in a linear timeline going forward. I felt the author wrote this story extremely true to life while showcasing the progression of lifelong love (While together & apart) between our two MCs Ben & Leora while they also navigate other relationships. The character progression/regression rang true to the struggles that people in relationships both platonic and romantic face daily. This story was also gripping, heartfelt, and hopeful. I marveled at the resilience of Leora & Ben both as couples and individually. I wanted their love to evolve, overcome and ultimately prevail any situation. The author wrote beautifully and I’ll be checking out her other works for sure.

If this sounds like your vibe, I recommend vetting triggers before reading.

Book : Only You
Author : Eva Jordan
Rating: ⭐⭐⭐⭐
Format : E Book

This is the story of Leora , and the different aspects of her life. The story walks the reader through the different situations that Leora faced and got accustomed to. Her love life with Ben and also her relationship with her parents Marty and Andrea, and her twin brother Lony. Eileen and Ali being the best of her friends and surrounding her in that beautiful cucoon of friendship. The book contains magic of first love, warmth of froendship and the essence of togetherness and how it stands the test of all times.

Its the story of childhood sweethearts Leora and Ben, this was a really cozy read and I loved the truthfulness and the chastity this one held. I loved the character of Ben who refuses to let go of the girl he loved, irrespective of being faced with any situation.

This fairytale of romance is a must read for all the lovers of Romances and cozy reads. I enjoyed every bit of it. The story radiates so much warmth that it would make your heart cry for more. I have rated it a 4 star since I found the begining to be a bit slow paced but rest of the story made up for it brilliantly. I would never let go of an opportunity to read more work from the pen of Eva Jordan.

Well I am completely and utterly speechless, I'm going to attempt to review this book but I'm pretty sure I won't do it justice as there are just no words to explain how riveting and amazing this book is.

I loved the story which was perfectly written. I literally could not put the book down, there were emotional moments, shocking moments, wow moments and there was even a couple of twists in this story that although I did see coming, it certainly didn’t affect my overall enjoyment of the story. The characters were all wonderful and flawlessly written and I thoroughly enjoyed getting to know them all. Some characters were likeable immediately, some (one in particular) was not, knew I disliked this one character straight away and turns out I was right in my instincts to do so.

The story does deal with some sensitive difficult topics which some readers may find upsetting or difficult to read but I truly feel that the author Eva has done a very good job in the telling of such a story as this.

This is a book that will definitely stay with me for a little while I reckon, it’s left its imprint on me that’s for sure.

I always judge a great book by my desire to pick it up and gobble up another few chapters.
I'm sorry to say I didn't get this feeling with Only You.
I found the first half of the book quite tedious and dragging on. Characters seemed to come and go with no real reason for their place in the story, while others were never explored fully.
I found none of them to be particularly likeable, especially the awful Ali who gets away with rudeness, manipulation, and general unpleasantness to all and sundry.
The second half of the book picked up a bit, but again, husbands, wives, and children appeared in the tale with no back stories, making it hard for the reader to engage with them.
I found myself skimming a few pages to find out the perpetrator of the crime against Leora. Again, it was no real surprise. Much to my disappointment. A good twist in the tale would've helped.

Only you by Eva Jordan

As the author said at the end of her book this story does not shy away from difficult subject matters and it’s pretty impressive how many subjects this story touches on while also bringing a lot of awareness to a huge amount of topics that can sometimes not be talked about enough. It took me a little while to get into the story but once I did and got to know the characters i instantly felt a deep connection with them and felt all the emotions that they were feeling. I laughed, cried got angry and I really couldn’t put it down desperate to know what was going to happen next. This book is a split timelines (1980’s and onwards and the present day ) I loved seeing the full picture right from when they were kids all the way to adulthood and was satisfied ad happy with the ending. A very emotional story that I’m pretty sure I will keep thinking about , a story that gave so much more than I expected. 5 stars from me ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

Only You is the second book I have read by the author and I liked that the story draws parallels with a real life incident.
The story starts with Leora and Ben meeting as teenagers when at school. Their relationship looks like it will go from strength to strength until Leora is told that Ben has done something unforgivable. The book firstly focuses on Leora, her family and a tight knit group of friends. When Leora loses not just Ben but other people important to her she relies on a close school friend to get her through a really bad time. Leora is a character who it seems is easy to manipulate and as she faces the aftermath of a devastating attack it seems possible that Ben may come back into her life. However, this doesn’t suit some people and Ben feels that he has done everything he can to help Leora. I enjoyed the way the characters developed in Only You and although I did guess the perpetrator of the attack and the other twist in the story I enjoyed this latest book.

I really enjoyed reading this book and following the love story of Leora and Ben from teenagers into adulthood.

It was a very nostalgic read with memories of the 80s. Touching on the light hearted times as well as some really important and hard hitting topics.

The way the story draws you in to all the characters lives and takes you on such a journey with them, through all the ups and downs of life was really special.

The characters felt so real even with all the drama that surrounds them. They all had their own stories to tell within the friendship group as well as individual obstacles to overcome.

Just like in ‘A gift of hope’ I really liked the spiritual element that was included in this story. It really adds a beautiful touch.

This is an emotional read and the subject matters send a power message, they are written sensitively with the focus toward the positives in life.

When I first started this book I honestly wasn’t sure of the direction it was taking me. When I got to the end I had experienced so many emotions that I was physically exhausted.
It is told over multiple time periods from the 1980s to almost present day. I enjoyed reminiscing in the early parts of the book about the 1980s, and initially I thought it was just going to be a story about lost love. No!! This book has so many deep threads running through it. So implicit at first and then building and pulling you in.
Leora and Ben’s story is heart wrenching, yet told beautifully. Every character is there for a reason, and they are all believable. The difficult themes are written with incredible sensitivity and nothing is shied away from. One of the best books I’ve read this year!!

"Only You" by Eva Jordan is the first book I have read of hers and it is an emotionally charged rollercoaster that gripped my heart from start to finish.
The story revolves around Ben and Leora, two characters whose love story takes a tragic turn in their younger years. Decades later, their lives intersect again, and the way their worlds collide is nothing short of captivation.

Eva Jordan weaves a powerful narrative of passion, friendship, and betrayal, making you question whether true love really can endure the harshest of times. The characters are beautifully developed, and their complex relationship tugs at your heartstrings.

I found this to be a compelling tale of love's resilience and the enduring power of second chances. It's a story that will keep you engrossed until the very last page.

Oh my goodness another brilliant emotional story from Eva!
So much going on, it was addictive reading for sure!
Loved the flashbacks to the 80s and the fascinating back stories of all the characters.
Some very harrowing moments throughout the story that were written so sensitively and completely touches your heart as you watch the characters grow.
Several misunderstandings causes so much drama and eventually changes the lives of the characters completely.
A wonderful story that was filled with intrigue and unexpected events, it kept me turning the pages late into the night.
Watching Ben and Leora going through their relationship from a young age and finding them struggle with some huge issues was an emotional roller coaster but it was so compelling.
Betrayal features as a theme but so does forgiveness too. As much as this book deals with some very heavy topics, an overwhelming sense of hope and strength between the characters creates a truly wonderful life enhancing story.
Utterly amazing.

I was ready for an uplifting read, and this was it. I was immediately gripped by the storyline and the characters. When things started to go wrong, I did have my suspicions that things were not quite as they seemed. Many themes and threads were woven into the storyline, contaminated blood, changing attitudes to homosexuality, friendship, family, bullying, relationships and love. Towards the middle, the pace seemed to drag slightly, but twists and turns were introduced keeping the interest level high. As well as a tender love story, there was also mystery and intrigue. Ultimately, the conclusion was very uplifting and moving, with a strong message of hope as well as an endorsement of the nobler side of human behaviour. Highly recommended reading.

I really enjoyed this mash up of genres with romance, comedy, thriller, and crime, all rolled into one.
The story spans from the childhood years of a group of youths through to their adulthood. Told from alternating viewpoints of the two main characters, we get to know Leora and Ben and the trials and tribulations they go through.
Trigger warnings of death, war, PTSD, and abuse - physical, mental, and emotional.
While I guessed very early on what was going on, it was still good to read the reveal.
The author is able to write very likeable characters, and also very unlikeable ones, which can be quite a feat! I loved seeing the development of Eileen and Mark particularly.
I thought that the attack and aftermath were written sensitively and appropriately.
It's a really good read.

What another absolutely brilliant book by Eva Jordan, and beautifully written I was gripped from the prologue. The way the Eva started where we ended and then went back to 1985 where the romance started between Lorna and Ben, where their lives took them and worked her way back to 2016 left me not wanting to put the book down.
The books main characters are Lorna and Ben, we are taken though their romance and friendships from school Lorna’s friends Ali, Eileen, and Jules, and Ben’s friend Dobs. We follow their ups and downs through the years and how they cope with life.
I cant recommend this book enough I would give it 10 stars if possible

Having read (and loved) A Gift Called Hope by Eva last year - when I spotted this, I couldn't wait to get going and give it a read.

I think this was an even better read than the last, but purely for the fact that I really enjoyed the romantic theme running through this one.

Leora and Ben had been childhood sweethearts but things went badly wrong and they parted ways.
Now, years later, they have been drawn together again and old feelings come rushing back - will this love really be true and can it endure the issues of the past and present?

Eva has a way of creating characters that you can instantly fall in love with. Even those who aren't instantly likable! They are relatable and honest and it's easy to connect with them and their feelings throughout.

This storyline was no doubt an emotional one - dealing with break-ups and betrayals but also true friendships, second-chance love and passion.
I did find the pace slowed a little after the initial section, but this soon picks up and propels you through the rest of this roller-coaster.

Another really enjoyable read and I'm excited to see what's next from this author.

Leora is Ben has known each other since they were teenager and fell in love at that time until a betrayal on Ben's side made it impossible to remain in each other lives, did he really did it or someone else is behind this whole situation.
Leora has been friends with Ali since forever, Ali helped her thru Ben's breakup and has always been there for Leora, what a great friend or is she not?
After a devastated physical attack Leora truly finds out who are her friends and who was never one of them.
The author managed to capture a real life event and incorporate it into the book in a way to make the reader feel that is living this horrible event along with the characters.

Such a heartbreaking but in places beautiful story about love and friendship. It was an emotional read with some hard hitting topics. Leora goes through so much during the story and yet still manages to show her strength. I could not find myself liking the character of Ali even from the early part of the story, and it was interesting to watch how the relationship between Leora and Ali developed. I did figure out really early on what was happening regarding some of the difficulties that Leora was facing. A really good read.

From one season of life to the next, it’s always your long time friends that stay with you through it all. One afternoon, a terrible attack happens unprovoked leaving everyone questioning who and why someone would do this. As Leora picks herself back up and rebuilds her life, we start to look back on the different turns her life journey took and wonder if more was at play.

I remembered hearing about the attack in the news so I knew this was written around the incident and loved how it really makes one realize your true strength and purpose in the world when faced with our worst! I kicked off vacation reading this book and could not put it down!

I was immediately drawn to this book. The cover is beautiful and I adore the premise of a second chance romance. The story is well-written and eloquently told. The characters are rich in description and although the story spans several years, the passing of time seems effortless. It was easy to become invested and to want to find out more about them and what was going to happen. There were also some unusual themes and backdrops which sets this book apart from some of the more formulaic romances. This was an intelligent, moving read and one that I would highly recommend.

It’s a love story on a few levels but mainly centred around Leora and Ben and how misunderstandings can happen, it brought back memories of when I was a teen and especially the time of the Live Aid concert when just like the book had people of all ages watching it. Although I had my suspicions about one of the characters, the lengths they went to were disturbing and spiteful. An engaging enjoyable read.

Leora and Ben fell in love at school but their romance was doomed and they parted company. Leora’s best friend Ali was always by her side during the breakup and through all that life threw at her but were her intentions totally honest?
This novel had many similarities to the life of a very well known celebrity, I don’t know if this was intentional but it detracted from it a little for me. Having said that I did enjoy the intrigue and twists with some great references to the 80’s.

I found the first half of the book slower and it took me a while to get going with it. Once I got past half way, I just couldn’t put it down. Ali was well written and the way he characters made excuses for her ways felt believable. The only character I struggled with was Lonny as he felt less developed for the role he played in the story. Great ending and the inspiration for the story being a real hero was fitting.
