This Christmas, Dash Griffin finally gets his man.
The library needs a new Santa to read stories to its littlest patrons and Dash has lots of friends who would be perfect. But instead of asking any of them, he sets his sights on quiet, uptight Gavin Selby. Dash has known for some time that the cranky accountant is the one for him. When he uncovers Gavin’s secret, Dash sees his chance to prove just how right they are for each other. Not only will Gavin become the library’s new Santa, but Dash is on a mission to deliver the brightest, most romantic Christmas ever.
Gavin has done everything in his power to protect his friends and paid a dear price. But he was happy to toe the line as long as everyone else got their happily ever after. Now, the price for Dash’s silence is pumpkin spice lattes and walks in Central Park. Gavin is happy to endure the holiday markets and wear a Santa costume if it means Dash will keep his secret. But can Gavin keep his most dangerous secret to himself? Or, will Dash finally discover that all Gavin wants for Christmas is him?
Author of the popular Nannies of New York and Boys of Lake Cliff book series, K Sterling has self-published dozens of books. K. is known for fast-paced romantic thrillers and touching gay romcoms. There might be goosebumps and some gore but there’s always true love and lots of laughter.
[I received a digital arc for an honest review] The Nanny with the Nice List is the 5th book in the Nannies of New York series by K. Sterling. While each can be read as a standalone it does center around a core group of friends so you'll see the past couples throughout.
Gavin and Dash have both been harboring feelings for each other, but Gavin doesn't think he's worthy of Dash. When Dash learns Gavin's secret, if offers to keep it in exchange for him playing Santa and spending the holiday season together. Dash is determined to prove how perfect they are for each other and that he has a solid support system that it's ok to lean on. Now that Gavin was on the nice list with Dash, he didn't want off it.
This entire story is just Christmas goodness all wrapped up in a big bow. Dash is the sunshine to Gavin's serious disposition. He helps Gavin loosen up and enjoy the little things in life, from pumpkin spice to snow angels. Dash brings lightness to all the heavy weight on Gavin's shoulders. I can't leave out the fact that he helps Gavin embrace enjoyment when it comes to intimacy. Their sexual chemistry bring quality spice to their holiday romance. "I had no idea that you could be so ...naughty."
The Nanny with the Nice List by K.Sterling is a sweet and steamy cozy holiday romance. With a grumpy/sunshine pairing, found family, puns, music, holiday goodness, steam, and a happy ending.
Reading Dash and Gavin’s holiday romance made me reminisce on my first Christmas with my husband, which we were fortunate enough to spend in Heidelberg, Germany (I was studying abroad at the time and couldn't come home for Winter Break) and which was incredibly magical. It also made me homesick for Christmas back home. These past seven years in a country where Christmas just isn’t special have been. . . like putting my favourite time of year on Mute. Dash and his Christmas Elf self is so similar to how I am in December that it felt like getting a pep talk. Too bad Dash isn’t real, so I can inform him that I'm a Peppermint Mocha guy and ask if he’d like to go gift shopping with me.
I can also relate so well to Gavin, having experienced the misfortune of needing to cut out both my parents. That leads me to the other It Factor making this book the perfect feel-good holiday read: the focus on found family.
Especially during the winter holidays, people are bombarded with so much guilt over family, specifically their families of origin. It’s great to see that some of the characters in Nanny With the Nice list have healthy, loving families, but it’s the Marshall Agency family that takes center stage, and that’s wonderful. Right alongside that, we get to see some truly awful “family” get exactly what they deserve. Sometimes, family is something we design ourselves. The promotion of appreciating *that* family while also refusing to allow toxic family to steal our joy is exactly what we need to see going into the holidays.
Suffice it to say that this is going to be a yearly December read for me. I received an ARC and am leaving this review voluntarily.
If you are looking for a cozy Christmas read then this is the perfect book for you. Brimming with lovable characters and heartwarming scenes The Nanny With The Nice List had me from the first page! This book meant so much to me, I’ve always been a sucker for the found family trope, sometimes the family’s we are born into aren’t a real family. Family is when you choose to love one another unconditionally and support each other, and the beautiful found family in this book did just that and made me want to cry happy tears. Thank you so much for allowing me to be on the Arc team K. Sterling I truly can’t wait to see what you create next.
It gets 5 stars because this right here is QUEER JOY and it could not have a plot (even thought it does) and be all just vibes, and it'd get 5 stars anyway. Gavin deserves all the happiness im the world and Dash is right there to give it to him if Gavin just let's himself take it. Their interactions are so precious I was in tears. Cosy perfection for this holiday season.
To review the book is to find words to describe the two main characters and their journey, separate and together....So, how do I sum up how I feel about the relationship between Dash & Gavin? And what K. Sterling put them through in order for Dash to finally get his man?
I can't. It's that simple. Or complicated really because it's beautiful, tender, authentic, heartbreaking, raw, secretive (at times) and so many other emotions.
Gavin, he surprised me the most. Going in, I was team Dash. Of course I wanted them together, but Dash just got me hooked in The Enchanted Nanny, while Gavin was like the silent grumpy bear in the corner for every "Nanny" book, he was just that- silent. But, he came to play and win in this book.
He is so relatable once he lets you in. His love for Dash is pure and he truly was the hero of the story. He crafted his life to protect his found family and was ok with watching everyone else he happy. And Dash, with his blackmailing nice list and the patience of a saint, I can't imagine a better pair.
The moments of self-discovery, hurt and emotion were so relatable that I felt like I was in Briarwood Terrace with all of them. And let's not forget how K. Sterling got me salivating for Reid now. It's a must read this holiday season. It's a joyful reminder that we all deserve to be happy, and go after what we want in life because, it's frankly too short.

The Nanny With The Nice List by K. Sterling is Dash and Gavin’s story, and it was the (steamy) love story I was hoping for plus more!
I’ve been intrigued by Gavin since we first met him in the Nannies of New York series. I always felt like he was hiding some pretty heavy secrets. This book lays those secrets bare. He always seemed as though he was carrying the weight of the world on his shoulders, and now we know why.
Dash is the eternally optimistic and emotionally demonstrative counterpoint to Gavin. Dash was lucky to grow up with parents who loved and accepted him as he was. Dash’s outlook on life was shaped by that love and acceptance, just as the lack of love and acceptance shaped Gavin.
Dash and Gavin’s love story made me feel a range of emotions. I adored watching Dash persuade Gavin to try new experiences. The level of trust Gavin has in Dash is evident and heartwarming. Oh, and Gavin’s set-down of Muriel Hormsby is priceless!
Age gap is one of my favorite tropes of the moment and so is steamy lessons/teach me which is definitely part of Gavin’s story. I really love Dash, but Gavin stole my heart. The found family that has based itself at Briarwood Terrace is one of my favorite found families in any series. The love and support they give one another is inspirational, and the epilogue to this book is sheer perfection!
Now who will finally capture Reid’s heart 🤔
I received an ARC from the author. The opinions expressed above are mine.
Picking up each book from this series feels like settling in for story time. Familiar friendly coziness of the wonderful base of found family, expanding one new family at a time. I want to say this is my favorite of the series yet, but that almost feels like I’m pitting the group against each other and that just won’t do!
I love a good pining, and Dash has been waiting for his moment for over two years. And the only thing better than pining? Mutual pining. Gavin has been doing his own quiet wishing in the background over the years, but held back to keep his evil father from seeing Dash as a target. He’s given up a lot over the years to help his friends thanks to that man - they don’t even know how much - and Gavin is more than due a happy ever after of his own!
Is Dash a bit of an extortionist, using his knowledge of Gavin’s secret to wrangle him into some forced holiday activities? Technically, yes. BUT he’s doing it out of so much love, and it’s for his own good - truly!
Dash is building a “Nice List” - a combo of ways he thinks Gavin is nice and nice activities for the two of them to do together before the holidays are over - how sweet is that?! There might be a naughty list too, and I’m sure you can imagine how fun *that* is…
Most of all I enjoyed everyone rallying around Gavin, convincing him he deserved so much more than hiding behind his papers on the sidelines watching their lives move onward and upward. And that Dash respects to a certain degree where his comfort zone is, and doesn’t push him out of it more than he knows Gavin will enjoy. It’s a tricky balance, but I think they’re hitting it!
Overall this is an excellent holiday read that manages to be both hot and heartwarming, and what more can you ask for?!
Reading this book was like wrapping up in your favorite blanket on a cold night by the fire! Cozy and delightful! Gavin is somewhat of a curmudgeon and Dash brings out his playful side he didn’t know he had. I loved how overall their relationship was a slow burn but sped up after the epilogue. I related to them in so many ways. Mainly the age difference between my older husband (14 years) and our family dynamics. I loved the Christmas theme and that we got to see all of the familiar characters I’ve grown to love I series! Fingers crossed for Reid’s story!
If given the option, always be a pumpkin spice latte kind of guy.
I’ve been waiting for Dash and Gavin’s story for so long now and I’m glad it’s finally here. I love a cinnamon himbo and Dash is just perfect, he needs to be protected at all costs.
Gavin’s struggles with his family were a very real reflection of what LGBTQIA+ individuals go through every day, my hearts broke for him but he didn’t miss a thing because his found family gave him all the love.
I enjoyed so much the process of Gavin coming to his senses and finally letting Dash in, he is been waiting years to have a shot at him and he didn’t waste any time proving to Gavin time and time again how much he loved him.
Can’t believe the series is almost over, im already missing my boys and girls and can’t wait for the next book.
Did i read a Christmas story in September? Yes. No complaints. The 5 star is really just for how happy this book made me. It is a must-read for anyone who wants a mix of humor, emotional depth, and a found-family vibe that leaves you feeling all fuzzy inside.
Gavin is the grumpy, shy guy who’s secretly all heart, while Dash is like a golden retriever: energetic, with a dirty mind and bad jokes—think of that tiktok sound that says: “Ken’s dream was to be Barbie’s husband,” and you’ve got Dash’s personality in a nutshell, good for him really, all the moments of him taking care of Gavin are beautiful. I actually didn't know how the two of them would actually match because Gavin seemed so different, but the reality!! God is perfect for each other.
Then there is Reid, Gavin's platonic soulmate and roommate. god, i loved to see them talk, and the foreshadowing for Reid story was amazing. Reid’s attitude toward Gavin and Dash’s relationship is refreshingly sweet, as he essentially says, “I want him, we have to keep him. He’s yours and I want him to live with us!” It’s a touching dynamic. The whole found family aspect of this novels it's trully amazing. To be honest, I love how each book adds more people, and nobody feels left out. That said: No kids in this one, just uncles by choice.
The novel doesn’t shy away from deeper issues, tackling homophobia and family trauma, and the lost of unsuportive family members, while balancing that heaviness with the support and love from Dash’s family and Reid’s unwavering presence. I love how the plot was literally: combat hate by showing everyone how in love you are.
I have been waiting for Gavin Selby’s story since he made his appearance with his best friend in Briarwood Terrace, the old townhouse in Manhattan where he lives with Reid Marshall, owner of the nanny agency of the series.
Gavin’s quiet intensity, stately dress , and determined demeanor as well as hidden history just made even his briefest appearances objects of curiosity. The reader really wanted to know more about him. And the character Dash’s obvious crush on him, another ongoing thread, from book to book.
So I was prepared for an emotional and revelatory journey for the reader and Dash into Gavin’s past and the present. I expected the author’s usual excellent job of bringing Gavin’s entire story into the narrative forefront here so we could understand why he is the way he is. The trauma and damage he has endured to become the man who has allowed himself to become smaller inside, fearful, and alone. Boxed in emotionally by his father and events.
Sterling has been so outstanding at this in the past, but here, whether it is the nature of the situation or the holidays, we feel distanced from the causes of Gavin’s problems and past life. Even the threats, potential threats to his current life , are ephemeral, never feeling anywhere near substantial.
I think that’s because Gavin’s past, his father, any interactions he might have or had with him are on a “as told to” basis. That puts this entire situation and part of the story on a different perspective, one without any real immediate impact or emotional connection.
That’s unlike the evolving romance and relationship building up between himself and Dash. That’s sweet and sexy and vulnerable. It’s lovely watching these two grow and Gavin dare to love, especially at Christmas.
But it throws off the balance of the story because the other half is the secrets/ongoing conflicts with Gavin’s father. Which is done off page or through other sources or people. That’s taking away the power and the build up from this aspect of the plot.
At one point, I was just getting frustrated, thinking about how little was at the center core of all that secrecy. Especially when there’s all those powerful friends at hand.
So yes, sweet, sexy, loving romantic story but the entire plot itself was not a great success. A good one but not great. The romance and holiday season aspect was a delight. But the parts that centered around Gavin’s character and background didn’t really work. His past history, his family trauma, his father were all too distanced narratively from his storyline to make the impression that the story wants them to have.
Read it because the series is wonderful and you want Gavin’s story. And because it sets up the next and what is possibly the last of the series, Reid Marshall’s romance, One Night With The Nanny.

Both fiercely loyal and sweet. Gavin’s sense of humor had me giggling, his dry sense of humor was the perfect compliment to Dash’s exuberance. Gavin needed to protect his real family and that meant keeping secrets from the ones he loved. Dash uses Gavin’s secrets against him, he convinces Gavin to go through his “nice” list with him, in hopes of opening Gavin’s eyes to what they could have if he just gave him a chance. Enjoyed this one in the series and looking forward to Reid’s story.
Gavin is an unassuming, quiet man, but not completely by choice. Dash is outgoing, adorable and lives his life out loud. These men have known one another for years and have always admired the other. Circumstances surrounding them have taken a toll. Their story is interesting, captivating and keeps you wondering what the outcome can possibly be. I loved this story and the glimpses of all the men and women in the Nanny world!
It’s so adorably cringy how utterly obsessed dash was with Gavin😂 what made it better?! Gavin pretended not to even blink in his direction and it was giving very much unrequited love but the eccentric billionaire was just living in fear. Their story being a holiday romance is just the kicker I didn’t know I needed.. it was so cute and I was giddy while reading this. In another life, I wish the author wrote this books in first person POV cause I would’ve loved them more.
The Nanny With The Nice List: Nannies of New York Book 5
OMG.....this book had my heart crying and smiling at the same time...Dash has all the heat Gavin needs to melt his controlled cool exterior...and journey from cool to blazing heat is worth the read. Great job Ms. K.
Grumpy/sunshine perfection with one MC who is willing to give up everything for his found family and another who will do everything in his power to protect that MC from his family... Throw in the extended cast of the Nannies of New York series, and you just know you're in for a treat!
I adored Gavin and Dash's story. I adore the way Dash shows his love in small gestures, and the way Gavin shows his. This is a lovely, sweet, occasionally smexy romance, one that is gentle and loving and all the wonderful things you want out of a Christmas romance.
It was very good book 📚 I loved it ☺️ It was adorable, fluffy and Heart warming 😍 And the way dash warmed his way through the cold walls that Gavin built around his Heart ❤️ it was sooooooooo amazing 😍
Every time I read a new Nannies of New York book I am convinced it's my new favourite of the series... but I really, really believe that Gavin and Dash's love story is definitely my favourite!
The grumpy/sunshine, the absolute love and adoration that these two have for each other, the fun they have together, the stability their love gifts both of them!
I LOVED reading this cozy, sweet, sexy, funny, wonderful story
This was a truly enjoyable book. I received an ARC, and this is my honest and spoiler-free review. ☺️
First, some details (and then I'll get into my thoughts on the story)... Pairing: MM, Dash (32) & Gavin (42) POV: 3rd Person Limited (Dual, switching by chapter) Tense: Past Strict Top/Bottom?: No Angst: 1.25/5 Spice Frequency: 2.25/5 Spice Level: 3.25/5

My Thoughts:
The Main Characters: Dash: Goodness, Dash was just the sunshiniest sunshine that ever sunshined. He was Over-The-Top, and I mean that in the best way possible. He had a charmed upbringing, both with financial resources and with love--he had/has the most loving family ever!--and all he wanted to do with his life as an adult was pay it forward and shower someone else with love. He was the kindest and most thoughtful man, and that made him the perfect match for Gavin. Gavin: Gavin had grown up with the opposite sort of family to Dash's. As a result, he was closed off, serious, and seemingly grumpy. But he didn't really have a grumpy nature! It was just years (decades, really) of trying to protect his friend circle from his family that forced Gavin into the role of the grump. He needed all the love that only Dash could provide, and once he allowed himself to accept this love, he blossomed! It was beautiful to read.
The Story: In a grumpy/sunshine book, I love when we get to see why the grump is grumping. It doesn't work for me as well when it's just like well he's just a sour person. So, in this case, it did very much work for me! I love that we get a backstory on Gavin. And as far as Dash goes, it was delightful to see how his background of having unconditional love and support from his family turned him into a ray of sunshine and Gavin's perfect complement. It's lovely in this series to get the comforting feeling of the gang's all here! with such charming side characters. In particular, the connection between Reid and Gavin really stood out as special. They would truly do anything for each other--and in this book, Reid's strong allegiance extended to Dash as well, which was a heartwarming development. Overall, I would describe this book as sweet and mostly fluffy, with a pinch of angst (please check the CWs before reading). It was balanced well, but definitely more on the swoony Holiday-story feel rather than angsty. There was definitely some comedy in there, too. I loved how Dash was so wholesome in terms of morals and actions, but a little bit filthy in the bedroom. His ability to turn virtuous Holiday-themed vocabulary into euphemistic dirty talk was unparalleled. 😏🎅
I'm wholesome and corny, but I'm also vers and super horny.
Lol. Gosh I just loved Dash so much. What a treasure--protect him at all costs! In all, I'd say this is a great read, especially if you're in the mood for some Holiday cheer!
Dash has known for some time that the quiet, uptight and cranky accountant Gavin Selby is the one for him. When he uncovers Gavin’s secret, Dash sees his chance to prove just how right they are for each other. Not only will Gavin become the library’s new Santa, but Dash is on a mission to deliver the brightest, most romantic Christmas ever. Gavin did everything he could to protect his friends and paid a dear price. But he was happy to toe the line as long as everyone else got their happily ever after. The price for Dash’s silence is pumpkin spice lattes and walks in Central Park. Gavin is happy to endure the holiday markets and wear a Santa costume if it means Dash will keep his secret. But can Gavin keep his most dangerous secret to himself? Or, will Dash finally discover that all Gavin wants for Christmas is him?
I loved this story with the reserved Gavin who is determined to pay any price to protect everyone. Dash was prepared to wait until he discovered the secret and decided that enough was enough and he would introduce Gavin to nice things around the Christmas season. I loved that Gavin finally cracked and gave in which was exactly what they both deserved. Gavin's father was a bitter and evil old man and I was thrilled when Gavin finally realised that enough was enough. Lots of feelings and emotions in this story as Gavin experienced the season with Dash and finally prioritised himself. This was an MM story with mature content.
This stand-alone novel was my first book in the series, but it won’t be my last. I found myself completely enamored with the charming and happy-go-lucky Dash, as well as the reserved and meticulous accountant, Gavin. The way Dash gradually coaxes Gavin out of his three-piece suit-wearing shell, using small yet meaningful gestures to express his love, added a delightful touch to this MM rom-com.
The exploration of Gavin's painful rejection by his homophobic parents, along with the introduction of a diverse cast of characters from the series, added depth and authenticity to the story. K. Sterling skillfully incorporated a 10-year age gap, mutual pining, a naughty and nice list, and a sexual awakening ensuring that the plot remained captivating and engaging. Furthermore, the inclusion of Gavin reluctantly taking on the role of the library Santa, trying his first pumpkin latte, making snow angels, and the vibrant holiday atmosphere of NYC, added to the book’s heartwarming charm.
The Nanny With The Nice List was cleverly written with humor, wit, poignancy, and joy. It delivered on all the feels and was a truly satisfying read. Grab a cup of your favorite drink, cozy up, and enjoy!
Super sweet and enjoyable book. It was nice to learn more about Gavin and see him open up and allow himself more happiness. The endless pining at the beginning of the book on both Gavin's and Dash's side was adorable. They were so sweet to each other and they really just worked. I was a little unsure what their dynamic would be given what we have seen of their interactions in the previous books but I was pleasantly surprised.
The Christmas setting was fun and added another layer to th story. This really set thei relationship up in a fun way. I loved all the different relationships and types of the love shown in these books, both romantic and platonic.
Only thing that let it down a bit was that the 'drama' of the plot, surrounding Gavin's father ended up being quite anticlimactic. It was just sorted and done easily, there was no consequences for it really.
But generally I really enjoyed this book and loved Dash and Gavin together.
Rounded up from 3.5⭐ Overall I truly enjoyed this installment of the series, but I can’t help but be slightly disappointed in it at the same time. If there was any character who I was really looking forward to reading about, it would be Gavin, and it definitely took some waiting on my part. But I can’t help but be disappointed in the lack of care that his story was given. As another reviewer (Melanie) has stated before, Sterling is normally so good at bringing these characters to life. Most of the former characters were given substantial back stories that then helped develop them to who they were in their respective books. But Gavin wasn’t given that same treatment. Instead you get, Gavin had absent horrible parents, the end. He deserved so much more back story in his character development. And I just wanted so much better for him.
The dialogue and exposition are just a bit to obvious for me. I can never really truly get into a book that has a character saying "Reid can never find out about this" out loud to himself as if that was just something people do.
Dash and Gavin's first conversation didn't really make sense considering Dash's threat that he was going to expose Gavin to Reid for the "thing he could never find out about" didn't seem to hold much weight considering Dash didn't seem to be the type of person to willingly cause trouble for someone when they didn't want it.
The library scene with Dash's extremely horny and inappropriate workers didn't land very well with me considering how I'd already been on the fence about the story.
I have a select few authors who release books and I drop my current read to run (not walk) to start their latest offering to their fans. You’re one of those authors and this series has a most special place in my heart. Gavin and Reid have been the stories I’ve most anticipated and dreaded. I’m going to be so sad when we’re no longer anticipating our next little views into the happenings at Briarwood Terrace and the nannies of New York. Thank you for breathing life into Dash and Gavin and giving them a wonderfully beautiful love story to last a lifetime.
K Sterling has done it again! Return to Manhattan for the holiday season with the Nannies of New York.
The Nanny with the Nice List was the swoon-worthy holiday rom-com I needed. Cosy, sweet, sexy, heart warming.
"There was absolutely nothing better than winter in New York City as far as Dash Griffin was concerned. The decorations, the extra twinkling lights, the holiday music, the window displays, and the parades. Dash loved the parades! But the possibilities were endless if you were looking for a magical holiday experience."
Gavin is so uptight and quiet (until he's not!), thinking he can't rock the boat and doesn't deserve any more than he already has. And Dash is such a sweetheart, refusing to let Gavin continue to believe he doesn't deserve love...or lust.
The mutual pining is adorable, especially poor Gavin getting so flustered by Dash and refusing to show it. And it was all so fun.
"No one was impervious to Dash’s brilliant smiles and magnetic charm, certainly not Gavin. He went absolutely haywire, silently imploding because Gavin had no idea what to do with a man like Dash."
The found family vibes are PERFECT and I love the dynamics between Dash, Gavin and Reid (Gavin's best friend and flatmate).
In this you'll find: 🎀 MM rom-com with spice 🎀 Gay MCs 🎀 Uptight accountant in three-piece suits 🎀 Happy-go-lucky guy who helps everyone 🎀 Grumpy x sunshine 🎀 10 year age gap 🎀 Mutual pining 🎀 A naughty and nice list 🎀 Sexual awakening 🎀 The library Santa 🎀 The best of the holidays in NYC 🎀 Rejection by homophobic family 🎀 Enthusiastic parents 🎀 Found family 🎀 A HEA
This is the first book in this series I believe there's no point in picking up if you haven't read the others. There's not really any nannying going on, and it requires some context on Dash's crush on Gavin and how everyone else thinks they're somewhat inevitable as a couple. Regardless, even with that knowledge, I still found this to be pretty boring. There's barely an idea of a plot, and what exists is so pointless besides creating an artificial reason for them to be apart I couldn't care less.
Opposites attract in this charming romance. Gavin is a quiet, buttoned-up, besuited, appearing stuffy, lonely, tea-drinking financial guru; Dash is a warm-hearted, sporty, outgoing, attractive golden retriever in human form. They both like each other, but due to his powerful, bigoted, and cruel father, Gavin won't do anything about it in order to protect Dash. We know that they're just meant for each other, but it's a lot of fun seeing them get there. Particularly since it's Christmas!
It seemed fitting to read this just before Xmas and I enjoyed Gavin and Dash's story. I've wondered about Gavin and his buttoned up stoicism for a while as he pops up in all the previous books. His story was sad, but Dash never really gives him time to think about it as he constantly moves him out of his comfort zone and into finally having some fun. Dash is so sweet and this was the perfect story for Christmas
