About Last Night

Boring.
Too sweet for no reason.
Everyone was so nice it gave me tooth ache.
The conflict wasn't there.
The development left a lot to be desired.
The fake dating trope was stupid.

A swoony and beautifully romantic Savannah story
I absolutely adore a sexual awakening romance and when it’s coupled with a best friend’s brother and set in Aimee Nicole Walker’s interconnected universe, you know it’s going to be a triumph.
Julien and Topher’s story was everything I hoped for and also gave me so much more. Look in a dictionary for the word “smitten” and it’ll have a picture of me while reading this book.
If you’re looking for an angsty driven narrative, you won’t find it here.
Instead what you get is a beautifully sweet slow burn filled with flirting, humour and two wonderful families who fill their homes with joy and happiness.
There’s a small side plot which I suspect may head over into Chief Mendoza’s book, which is up next. And let me say, my excitement levels for that one are off the charts.
As was the sexy times between these two once Julien realised Topher wasn’t hiding his feelings or planning on running away.
There’s only a brief appearance from Sawyer and Royce, but we do also get a little bit of Rocky too and I just honestly love being in this world so I didn’t care. Julien and Topher carry the story perfectly on their own.
If you’re looking for a swoony and supportive palate cleanser which makes you happy and puts hearts in your eyes, this one is it.

Zero conflict makes for a boring book.
This one introduces Topher and Julien, who we briefly meet in the series Sawyer and Royce: Marriage is Murder.
It kinda works as a standalone, but I wouldn’t advise it—I’d read it after Zero Hour and the above stated series.
No murder. No angst. I couldn’t have skipped it and been fine not knowing how these two guys end up together.

The second Julian Fine flirted with Royce Locke in the Matrimony and Mayhem series, I hoped he would get his own book. I love fashionable, extroverted and flirtatious MC's because they're basically everything I'm not and Julian was all of those things wrapped up in a talented package. His bespoke corsets played a starring role in Royce and Sawyer's wedding and honeymoon and I couldn't wait to learn more about the man behind the sewing needle. Topher was a fringe character that hadn't really piqued my interest. In this book he described himself as dull, so maybe the way he skirted the edges of my attention was intentional. Regardless, I was looking forward to their story and hate that I can't give it more than 3 stars.
What I learned when reading Invisible Strings was that I love this author when she's writing romantic suspense, but struggle with her contemporary romance. When the love story is center stage and there is no mystery or threat of danger to add an edge, things get fluffy fast. I can get on board with fluff, but not when it's paired with cheese and I could have made nachos with this book. This might be a me thing, though. I get supremely uncomfortable with overtly romantic gestures and picture myself shrinking into a little ball and rolling away before deleting the other person from my contacts. If you swoon over the idea of gazing into someones eyes as they sing you a song while you slow dance in public, this book was written for you.
I did love that Julian's persistence and patience paid off and he got his man. He had pined and crushed and flirted his way through 3 years and I was so happy to see him happy. Topher was a really great guy and they were perfect for each other. There were a lot of cute and heartwarming moments between them that made me feel better about the moments that made me cringe. It was nice to see some familiar faces, too. I'm intrigued about where things in the Savannah-verse are going. I'm also looking forward to finally finding out what's going on with Mendoza and Beecham next.

This was such a sweet, sweet Friends to lovers/falling in love with the Best friend's brother story. I really adored it. Seeing Julian and Topher's relationship blossom is so lovely. However, took some time for Topher to catch up to Julian's feelings - three years!
I loved how there was no miscommunication or breaks up. It felt like a mature and genuine relationship. Julian, who became part of the family through Harper, was worried about if he and Christopher broke up what kind of effects it would have. I love how they communicated their feelings and worries.
Overall I enjoyed it! It was a wonderfully sweet story. Aimee Nicole Walker is a new to me author, and I've already become interested in reading more of their works. I'm curious to see if the other couples I met in the story have their own books.

3 A-little-boring stars!! 🙄 Can't believe I'm saying this, because I love ANW; but I actually got a little bored since there was no angst, no suspense. I'm just used to a little bit of mystery-suspense mix from the original series and was expecting that since "Topher" was a detective and in Sawyer's cold case team. I'm not saying that the characters were bad or anything, both Julian and Topher were great MCs, had interesting families and back-stories. I especially loved Julian ❤️ ❤️; but I ended up feeling that they were somehow under utilized in the story.
Nevertheless it was a good book, no-angst with plenty of steam between the MCs.. just the plot was not riveting at all.
Therefore, I'm recommending this to fans of simple-sweet-steamy-MM romances..👍👍

This romantic story had everything I could wish for.
There’s friendship, respect, honesty, feelings all over, pining, witty comments, and fun sexual innuendos.
Christopher is a thirty-six years old detective who investigates cold cases. All his relationships come to naught. Lately, he sees his sister’s best friend Julian with other eyes.
Julian is twenty-eight and a fashion designer. He has a crush on Christopher from the first moment he saw him. Pity the man is straight, Julian takes every opportunity to make playful suggestions about how they fit together.
There is a lot of sweet fun, when Julian needs a way out of having a boyfriend Christopher steps in to help him out. From fake boyfriends to real boyfriends is just a tiny step.

I ADORED this story, everything about it spoke to me, everything! It’s about warmth and honesty and destination. Julian and Christopher are the most lovable characters!!
This is the kind of love that gave me goosebumps!!
It’s all beautifully written, with layered endearingly and vulnerable characters, a bunch of amazing secondary characters, a solid plot, and all super emotional.
I can go on and on, I will not, believe me, it’s a winner!

There was no drama, no misunderstanding, no angst but I really liked it.

The characters were pretty fun to get to know but their romance was too boring for me. There was almost no conflict or angst and while books don't always need that I felt like this one did. Topher and Julian fell into a relationship way too easy for my liking, especially considering Julian was the first guy Topher was attracted to. For a super sweet romance this hit the marks if that's what you're looking for, for a bi-curious/gay-for-you story it just didn't do it for me.

Got so much more than expected!
Someone wrote a post in a MM book group sharing the cover, tropes, and a link. The cover caught my eye and the trope of straight-to-gay or bi-curious is totally my jam. Add in hot cop and I couldn’t not get on this one.
Not having not paid attention to the author’s name or synopsis, I started reading and at 8% in, yelled out WHAT IN THE WHAAAT?!! Sawye! Locke and Key! And that’s when I realized this story takes place in the same world as Locke and Key’s Zero Hour series! Knock me over with a feather. I laughed at what a dork I am for not realizing and thought to myself, no wonder I’ve loved this book from page one, this author is awesome!
Not to be overcome by Locke and Key, this book can 💯 be read as a standalone. Topher (hot cop and straight dude) and Julian (openly gay with a not-so-subtle crush on hot cop) completely hold their own and made for wonderful main characters. Julian’s openly aggressive, yet sweet and funny-adorable crush on Topher was endearing. And Topher’s acknowledgment and careful sensitivity toward Julian and his feelings made me love and respect Topher bunches.
I totally dig the Van Morrison vibe and lyrics in this story. Everything about the plot and characters had me feeling it and falling fast for Topher and Julian.

"If this was my last first date, I didn't want to miss a single moment."
This was just adorably sweet intermixed with hot AF banter between Topher and Julian. I loved how supportive the families were when Topher finally pulled his head out of his butt and realized he maybe had more than platonic feelings for a man for the first time in his life. It was nice that we also didn't have to deal with a big freakout. Topher was very adult in his thoughts and maturely came to terms with it all before he jumped into bed with Julian. After all, Julian was a large part of his families life so there was more on the line than just their friendship if things went sideways. The fear wasn't warranted as Julian and Topher moved into dating as if they'd always been together. Their romance was just a feel good story all around.
Now... we do get a teensey glimpse at what we have in store for us next. MENDOZA!!!!!! Ok I'm done screaming like a lunatic. But come on, it's been a long time coming and I honestly didn't know if we'd ever get his full story. It looks like it's headed our way in December and I'll be not so patiently waiting til then!

Okay, Julian and Christopher together? It’s everything. They are so incredibly sweet together, and there was really no angst here—and this came to me at just the right moment where I just wanted and needed a story just like that. I’ve been a fan of this author’s books for a while, and this one showed me again exactly why.
Julian is funny and spirited, and an all-around likable character. Christopher is a very accepting, go-with-the-flow guy who is family-oriented and protective. The two of them play off of each other so well, and everything flows so naturally between them. It’s almost like them being together is the obvious outcome, we just have to wait for that realization to happen.
Making things even better is the cast of supporting characters, in particular Christopher’s family—which includes Julian’s best friend. The way they’ve embraced Julian as one of their own is heartwarming. They make for a great support system while Julian and Christopher gradually make their way over a pretty spread out timespan from friends to fake boyfriends to the real thing.
About Last Night was a 4.5-star read for me, and if you’re looking for a lighter, fluffier, and fun feel-good romance you might as well prepare your one-click finger to do its duty. Definitely sweet, thankfully no major conflicts or “big misunderstanding” type moments, just a couple who will make you smile. They’re also pretty hot together, so I’d recommend this book for readers 18+ for adult language and sexual content.

So now we get Christopher and Julian’s story. Aimee has such a way with telling a romance story. From the first page I can never put them down. If you have read Zero Hour series and Sinister in Savannah series then you know who these two are. If you haven’t I suggest to get to it.
Julian moved to Savannah for a fresh start. Being in a funk just wasn’t his style and what better way then to be where he was always the happiest. He never thought his world would change singing a Britney song.
Topher is a detective in SPD. He loves his job, now if his love life could get the memo. He is such a sweetheart. But sometimes someone puts the unexpected person in your path.
These two are so perfect for each other. Just takes time for one to figure it out. Their story is full on love and new beginnings. I can’t wait to see what next!

About Last Night is my first Aimee Nicole Walker book and it was a delightful one, with a lot of pinning and a pretty sweet bi-awakening. Along with a lot of swooning and very little angst. Throw in the need for a fake boyfriend and my favourite trope…only one bed, and you have a fun story.
I really enjoyed Aimee’s writing style. It was engaging and flowed incredibly well. It also had a whole world of really great characters.
Topher and Julian are both really great and endearing people. Topher struggles to find the one. He can never seem to get it right. In fact, he’s told all too often he’s boring. He is also a respected police officer. Julian is spirited and fun. He had dreams of taking the design world by storm. When he moved to Savannah he left that world a little jaded.
These two develop an adorable friendship, which turned out more, with really great communication and I love how supportive they are of each other. Especially Topher of Julian’s skill and dreams.

I absolutely adored Topher and Julian. Two genuinely nice guys who are accidentally forced together. The Banter is flirty and fun even though Topher is supposed to be straight. They just have a natural all-around chemistry. I liked that Topher was a very real and ordinary kind of guy. He was perfect for outgoing flitty Julian! This was sweet, hot, and fun all perfectly balanced. I enjoyed that there was not a bunch of angst about their feelings for each other, just true caution about moving forward. This book as well as her previous series have made me want to spend some hot summer nights in Savannah!

What I loved about this book was that it was just an overall feel good book. Friends to lovers with a found family...count me in.
If you're looking for angst and drama this book is not for you. This is a romance story...a sweet romance story.
I knew exactly how this book was going to go from the very beginning but that didn't take away from how good this was.
Aimee is one of my go to suspense authors but she still hit it right outta the ballpark with this romance story.
Julian and Topher were so perfect together. From the very first moment these two meet the sparks never stop flying 😉....Like everyone said....we all knew they belonged together. I wish all families were as perfect as Julian's and Topher's.
Next on....Chief and His Sheriff.... December can't get here soon enough...💖.

I loved this sweet sister's best friend, friends-to-lovers, bisexual awakening story from Aimee Nicole Walker. It also includes a brief bit of fake boyfriend and only one bed trope. Altogether, it's a fun story with plenty of steam, and an interesting enough storyline to make this angst and drama lover enjoy it despite having almost no angst in it. While it's adjacent to the Sinister in Savannah and Zero Hour series, you can totally read it as a standalone.

I don't have much to say about this one. I liked the beginning it had so much promise but the story kind of fell flat. There wasn't any one thing that made this book just meh it was the lack of plot for me.
Topher is unlucky in love and when he meets Julian who is a shameless flirt.
It was sweet. Julian is on the mend from a bad break-up and Topher is having his eyes opened to what could be.
When Julian needs a plus one Topher jumps in to help.
The narration was just okay as well not a big fan of Tristan James's narration personally.

This was an extra-sweet, no drama, no angst, no miscommunication/misunderstanding book.
For me it was one of the books that I read at just the right moment otherwise I might have found it a little bit boring.
But nope. I enjoyed Topher and Julian together immensely.

Aimee Nicole Walker brought readers a beautiful love story that wasn’t too saccharine, too angst-ridden or too unbelievable. We got a fake boyfriend trope full of real feelings, we got queer awakenings without hurting the already-out-of-the-closet MC, we got supportive, loving families on both sides and we got to “meet” the next couple during the focus on Topher.
Topher and Julian met when Topher pulled Julian over for running a stop sign. Seeing Julian crying and hearing why, in addition to some fun, harmless flirting on Julian’s part, had Topher letting him off with a warning. When Julian’s red light Kelly Clarkson duet partner turns out to be his neighbour across the hall, it’s a sign that Harper Carnegie and her family will be important to Julian, who needs some happiness in his life after being cheated on and looking for a fresh start. Imagine Julian – and Topher’s – surprise when Topher shows up at the Carnegie’s Sunday Dinner and introduces himself as Harper’s (very straight) brother. Three years, lots of Julian’s harmless flirting and many failed relationships later, Topher is starting to feel things that aren’t only amusement at Julian’s flirting.
When an unintentional white lie comes back to bite Julian in the derrière, Topher suggests helping him out while also trying to explore these new feelings he’s been experiencing lately. What follows is a love story that has each MC find additional success in their jobs, Julian from his dress design for his sister’s wedding and Topher as part of a special task force looking to uncover dirty cops. It also has Topher unknowingly renting-to-buy what turns out to be Julian’s aunt’s house – and the source of the tears behind the stop sign running 3 years prior.
Julian and Topher are lovely together and are still successful individually as well, never losing their independence while coming together as a couple. It’s hard to review this book without going on and on and spoiling the entire story!

This is a standalone - but if you have been enjoying Walker's Sawyer and Royce books, you will recognise the gang, and enjoy catching up with all things Savannah! You will also remember Julian's amazing corset constructions, which give so much pleasure to the guys...
I really enjoyed these two men finally get the HEA which they deserved, even if Julian being open about his attraction to Topher took three years to arrive at a first date. It was really very cute when finally Topher realises he wants to open his mind to being interested in him, Julian cannot believe that he means it. After years of watching him have relationships with women, this is hardly surprising - but once they start the ball rolling, it is delicious from the start.
The police drama was considerably less than in Locke and Key stories, but that was fine by me, sometimes just the hint of danger is enough to raise the blood pressure a little. The chemistry between these two very caring guys was a great mix of sexy, cheeky and hot.
I really enjoyed it all, and was also happy for Harper, who has also been less than lucky in love in the past. Very exciting too was the promise that police chief and the sheriff are finally going to get their story told -the hints have been growing, but soon we will have the full story!

Damn this book was super cute!! The love story between Topher and Julian was so well developed and the plot building was immaculate, I couldn't put it down at all! I loved that there was a side plot as well that I believe will lead into the next couple, whoever that may be! I am SUCH a big fan of bi-awakenings done well, and this one did not disappoint. It was steamy and funny and the communication between the MCs was on point! I love how Topher refuses to let Julian settle for anything less than what he deserved, and how supportive both families was of their relationship from the get go (plus Julian's mother was a riot!). Overall this was a fun read that was full of humour, steam, and an all-round fantastic storyline!

As characters go, Julian is pretty much everything you’d expect of a young, hungry, fashion designer. He’s got quips for days, a good sense of style, and a fearlessness that has him committing 100% all the time, be it as a friend, a brother, or a designer. Julian has been working for so long and so hard without ever catching a break that he’s stopped trying quite so hard. He’s a little tired, a little lost, but no less driven.
Topher doesn’t seem as focused on being a cop as he is focused on Julian. Somehow, between one girlfriend and the next, Topher realizes that he may not be as straight as he (or anyone else) thought. And it’s not something that takes chapters of introspection to come to terms with; Topher doesn’t feel shame or doubt, which is great; instead it’s just a sort of “huh, so how do I ask a guy out?” that feels a little fast, to be honest. Topher doesn’t seem to have many opinions beyond realizing he’s got a thing for Julian, then his thoughts on going after Julian, and then he’s happy with Julian.
