Three things run through my mind at this very moment…

ONE, my life as I once knew it will never be the same.

TWO, the person I’m in love with might not even exist.

THREE, the deception that has unfolded before me has the power of life and death.

Sixteen year old, Breanna Davis, has heard the saying; life isn’t always what it seems…well, that saying rings true now more than ever. As horrifying visions appear before her, revealing tragedies that will forever change the fate of those she loves, she realizes that she may be the only person who can stop them from becoming reality.

Amongst the chaos of this new discovery, Bre is faced with a stranger, Eve, who moves in on Bre’s friends and begins to follow her every move. As Eve’s true motives begin to surface, Bre must fight against, not only the visions, but the dangers Eve holds close.

There is another secret kept- Collin, a boy held captive in Bre’s dreams, the boy she is secretly falling in love with but isn’t sure he even exists. As she tries to make it work with Austin, an old friend who could possibly be more, Bre battles against her feelings for Collin.

Bre is faced with an almost impossible decision, to choose her life or follow her destiny. If she doesn’t intercede, people will certainly die. If she does, her own life could be at stake. In the end, if she fails, she’ll lose everything.

I took my time reading this book. Really enjoyed the progression and paranormal elements!
The ending has left the biggest cliff hanger ever so I am pretty desperate for book two already.
Cant wait to read book two and hopefully it has even more paranormal elements to it!

As a mom, I don't have a lot of time to read. I started reading this book and could not stop! I got my husband to watch the baby so I didn't have to put it down! This author does a good job of keeping the story moving and dragging you in. I can't wait to read what happens next!! READ THIS BOOK! As a matter of fact, I think I will read it again!

My only complaint about this book is that it ended. Which leads me to ask, when can I expect book #2?! The suspense was literally killing me from the very beginning to the very end. I was on the edge of my seat the whole time! I can't remember the last book I read that actually creeped me out (in a good way). The story building was just plain amazing and super intense. When I got to the last page all I could think was, "Wow." This novel had the perfect blend of mystery/suspense, some paranormal activity, drama and a wee bit of romance.

Breanna Davis is changing. All of a sudden she's having weird sensations followed by strange visions and dreams. She can't figure out what it all means. When new girl Eve shows up and starts working her way into Bre's circle of friends, she becomes suspicious especially since Eve happens to be everywhere Bre is. The big question is, Who is Eve? And what does she want with Bre? As if dealing with all this drama isn't enough Bre begins have recurring dreams about an unknown hottie named Collin and finds herself falling in love with this mystery man even though she's trying to give things with Austin, her childhood best friend, a chance. Throw in a controlling ex-boyfriend (Josh) and the most vicious girls a high schooler could imagine and you've got one crazy-messed up life!

Even though the story was about a bunch of high school juniors and seniors, it felt more like they were college students. They had a lot of freedoms that typical 16 year olds do not, but it definitely worked within the story. They dealt with serious situations like adults, which is commendable, and seemed to take care of themselves just fine. All I can say is I'm glad I didn't go to the same high school as Bre, b/c those girls (Megan & Katie) were absolute predators! And the guys were just plan oblivious half of the time. Bre had so much to deal with between her visions/dreams, rumors, high school life, family life & work. I don't know how she managed, but she did. And she was awesome! I really enjoyed this book, and Ms. Guerard's writing style. The characters were well developed, the story line flowed perfectly and no annoying typos or grammatical errors (which is hard to come by lately). I actually felt myself being pulled into the story as it was happening. When a book can transport you to another place & time without leaving the comfort of your home, that to me speaks volumes about the author and their writing ability. I would highly recommend this book to others in search of an action packed, super intense novel to read.

Awaken was a really intense and kind of powerful read. There is a lot going on. There is mystery mixed with paranormal mixed with romance and action, plus characters you love and characters you want to die a slow and painful death. I haven't read a book that had this much going on and where it worked so well in a long time. Sometimes it can feel like a cluster you know what when a book tries to do too much, but not with Awaken. I can already tell that this is bound to be a favorite series of mine.

Bre is unique because she isn't just a straight tough girl kitt butt character but she isn't overly weak either. She is a mixture of both, and because of this she was very realistic. People aren't just tough all the time or wimpy all the time. Bre had a hard time letting go of her D-bag boyfriend Josh. Who, by the way I wanted to stab in the eye every single time he opened his jerky mouth. I couldn't stand him. But eventually she kicked him to the curb and I may have cheered in my head when that happened. Ok, fine, I totally did let out some woot woots! (I really hated josh)

But who needs Josh when there are also Austin and Collin around, who are actually great guys. I thought for sure that I would be team Austin because he was just so nice to Bre and he was so there for her and compared to Josh, Austin is guy gold! But then Collin showed up. And he didn't show up until at least half way through the book, which was a little strange to me, but as soon as he was there I couldn't look at anyone else. Collin just seems so right for Bre. Austin is a great friend to her but I had a hard time seeing him as anything else.

What was great about Awaken is that there is always something going on. Between the paranormal premonitions, which was done really cool by the way, there was also this mystery that kind of surrounded everything. And at the heart of the mystery for me was Eve. I just wanted to figure out what was going on with that girl. The next book is going to be just as epic as this one was, I can just tell. Sometimes you just know when a book is going to work for you, and Awaken just clicked for me. The writing is awesomely detailed and flows perfectly. I never thought the pacing was too fast or too slow, the characters were all developed and the plot was so intriguing. I need the second book right now.

I’m going to go ahead and warn you that this review is going to be a little on the vague size. It isn’t because I didn’t like the book, I actually really enjoyed it. It was just so different, when compared to a lot of the books that I have read in the past that it is a lot to try and process. Jaime does tie in some popular ideas within the YA in her book, but the way she approaches it all really feels quite unique.

The story is excellent. The idea of the premonitions, and other things that you run into throughout the book makes for an extremely interesting read. It is incredibly difficult to explain in detail exactly what this book is about, due to how crazy (in a really awesome way) it is. The mystery, suspense, and everything else that is thrown at you as you’re reading through this book really helps to make for quite an enjoyable ride. I am really curious to see how Jaime will continue this story, and I can’t wait to read more of this awesome story.

The characters are honestly just as great as the overall story. Breanna has climbed into the ranks of favorite characters after finishing this book. There is a ton of emphasis on the characters in this story, all of them. I know that is weird to say, but in a lot of stories I feel like some characters end up being left out as a story progresses. That isn’t the case with Awaken. Breanna, Collin, Austin, Eve and so on had huge roles in this book. And even Josh who I really didn’t like (I don’t anyone really did, and I know that you will see why) played somewhat of a role. Overall these characters were very well rounded, and great attributes to an already sound story.

If you’re looking for a crazy, yet really enjoyable and fascinating Paranormal to read, than I would highly suggest that you go and pick up a copy of Awaken whenever you get the chance! I will eagerly be awaiting the chance to read the second book in this series, to see how everything continues and I hope you will join me once you have read book one.

I was given the wonderful opportunity to receive and ARC preview of Jaime's debut novel Awaken … WOW!!!! A perfect title for a perfectly suspenseful page turning, edge of your seat novel that has you guessing what is going on from page to page. The journey you follow with Breanna has you dealing with normal teenage drama, family issues, falling in love, falling out of love and trying not to hurt those that are closest to her all while trying to understand this amazing gift she has been given and live a “normal” life. Jaime Guerard’s ability to make you feel and want everything from Breanna, Collin, Austin and Eve is a true gift. Seriously this book is just WOW!!! I really did love every page turning minute of it and I cannot wait to see if what I “see” happening will happen in Book 2!!! A must read everyone!!!!!

There were two reasons I picked up this book. First, I had heard a lot of great things about it. Secondly, I heard that it had a cliff hanger. Any author who writes a cliff hanger, is an author that has my attention. I do not want to give any spoilers away. I just want to say two things. First, I am really pulling for Austin, and Second, I cannot wait to find out the back story of how Bre came into her visions. This storyline was different from anything else I have read. I challenge you to give this story a chance. I know you will not be disappointed. When I finished the first book, I immediately looked for the second one. To my disappointment it is not out yet, but should be soon. I look forward to seeing what this author has to offer us in book 2. The ending was well played Jaime Guerard, well played...

I was hooked by the end of the first chapter! I devoured this book! Awaken kept me at the edge of my seat, biting my nails and wondering what would happen next! Bre is just an average kid with an unusual gift. I couldn't help but love her and root for her as she went through some tough situations. The twists and turns in this story kept me wanting more! I couldn't wait to see what happened in the end! Trust me, if you want a suspenseful, paranormal romance then this is book for you!!! I loved every minute of it! Jaime did an amazing job! I can't wait for book 2!

I wanted to like this book, really I did. After reading all of the gushing reviews I expected a great story. For me, it was just all over the place and very "teen". Which is fine since this is the audience intended.

I read a lot of YA books because the writers today are great. I will give this one some time and re-read it in a week or so to see if my review can be changed. It was overly dramatic and never really got my attention.

This review was originally posted to my blog at msnoseinabook.com.

I loved Awaken! I was really excited to read it because the synopsis just sounded so different from anything I’ve read lately (plus I love me some good YA books!).

One of the things that first captured me about the story was the main character Bre (super cute name by the way). I really liked her as a character right from the start. She is one of those great characters that you instantly like and is very relatable and real. I think this is really great because it made me feel like I was experiencing this story as Breanna and not just reading it from the outside looking in which is something that not every author can do so it’s great when I find a book that is like that.

The story itself was awesome. There is so much going on and so many different aspects to the story that it never fails to be interesting. I was on the edge of my seat for most of this book and once I got reading it was really hard to put this book down because I just had to know what happened next. Another thing that I really enjoyed about this book that makes it really stand out in a crowd is that it is NEVER predictable which is awesome!

I love also the romantic elements in the story and how well they are worked into the main plot. As a reader, I just felt so torn along with Bre. Sometimes when there is a love triangle I am just so sure of who I want the character to pick and I think Bre has some really great choices so I hurt alongside her which is really surprising in a good way! One thing I liked looking into during my read of this book were the relationships. I think the relationship dynamics between characters are so interesting in this book! Not only the love triangle aspect of it (which is super interesting and had me just swooning, heartbroken and happy at different moments of the story) but also to the mother/daughter, father/daughter, best friends and frenemy relationships too it was all so interesting.

The story just flows really nicely and the timing of it is perfect. It’s not a light read, I consider a light read to be under 200ish pages and Awaken sits at over 300 which is great for this book. It’s definitely a good thing because it’s so interesting and once again, the pacing is perfect. Sometimes when I am reading a long book that I’m not super invested in I catch myself looking forward to the ending (which is not too often but it does happen) and I NEVER once caught myself doing this during Awaken.

I have some unanswered questions about the story but I’m sure it was designed this way because yes everyone this is the first book in a series, yay! This is one of the books where I don’t mind at all about having unresolved questions because the story is so good and we are promised more story especially with that awesome ending! The ending is a total cliffhanger which if you’re already at the edge of your seat you will absolutely fall over! It was brilliant and the ending was crazy!!!

Lastly, I did want to mention the cover because I love the cover to Awaken. I think this cover is just so perfect for the book. I especially love that it shows the roman numerals around her pupil illustrating the race against time which is so exciting and heart pumping in the book. The color scheme is really beautiful as well with the contrast of colors, the brightness of the yellow against the muted colors is shocking and breathtaking. Definitely an attention catcher!

Let me start off by saying that this book is filled with pure suspense. Not the kind that makes you feel scared during the night, but the kind that leaves you sitting on the edge of your bed and biting your nails because you don’t know what is going to happen next.

Breanna “Bre” is a teenage girl that starts getting visions and dreams. She learns that she can change the fate of the visions but not the fate of the dreams. Bre has a total of three boyfriends during the book. Josh, who is a jealous and controlling boyfriend and cheats on Bre numerous times. Austin, whom is a childhood friend and is there for Bre and cares for her. Then Collins enters the picture, but there is something wrong. Collins is the guy that Bre keeps dreaming about and is Adonis Incarnate, as Bre puts it. How can Bre be together with a boy she has only seen in her dreams?

What does a book about a teenage girl most-always has? High school drama and Awaken isn’t the exception. Josh loves receiving the attention of any girl that walks by. When Bre starts noticing, she gets furious. That is something I didn’t quite get of the story. If Bre wanted to get away from Josh, why not do it since the beginning? She wanted to leave Josh because her relationship is toxic and it ruins her.

Bre is not only dealing with high school drama but she is also dealing with an absent mother. Bre’s mother is always off at work. Bre only lives with her working father and her younger brother, Caleb. When Bre’s mother comes to stay home, fights start escalating and both sibling’s hearts are broken.

But this book isn’t all about high school drama, boyfriend problems or just family drama. It is far from it. Enter Eve, the mysterious girl always watching Bre’s every move, to the point where she almost kills Bre in an accident on one of the visions that Bre was trying to prevent. During a party that is being held at Eve’s house, Bre finds things inside Eve’s room that leads her start asking questions. Something happens that night that Bre has to leave the house but she returns and finds a whole lot more that she couldn’t understand.

The ending…I am still recovering from it and I read the book last week…it was intense. The cliffhanger it has…if you have read my review of The Key then you will know that I considered that book’s cliffhanger intense, but Awaken‘s cliffhanger was more if that’s possible. On the second to last chapter, I was screaming and crying. The last chapter, I was so shocked I couldn’t even scream nor cry. I kept staring at the last few words without blinking for a few minutes. I have never wanted the second book as bad as I want Lost, the sequel to Awaken.

Wow! What an incredible read! The storyline was fascinating and I really connected to the characters (especially Collin #TeamCollin fangirl right here).

Jaime Guerard's writing style was electric and I found myself reading for hours at a time before realising it was about 3am. Bre was a wonderfully complex character, and from the start I found myself wanting the best for her, first when it came to her relationship with Josh and then when it came down to her wanting to spare the feelings of Austin when she fell in love with his brother.

The characters had amazing depth and I loved seeing how their relationships with each other formed. The relationship that Bre had with Austin was beautifully written and I felt so heartbroken for Bre that she was caught in the middle of two men who she really loved. Austin had been there for her after she'd broken up with her boyfriend, and showed her that she deserved to be treated better in life, and their friendship was so strong that I felt bereft knowing I don't have a friend who I am so close to. That Austin believed Bre, even when any sane person probably wouldn't believe that she could see the future before it happened, was something that really strengthened their bond. However, when the story began to suggest that Austin and Bre should be together, I couldn't identify why that made me feel awkward. When Collin arrived however, I really began to see that whilst I love Austin, and his relationship to Bre, I saw him more as a brother, and I couldn't see the two of them in a romantic relationship.

Collin was a great character and when he first arrived in the book I immediately felt that with him Bre could reach her full potential. Whilst with Austin she would be safe and happy, with Collin she could reach for the stars so to speak.

The character of Eve was one that really drew me in. I loved the way her storyline added in a psychological thrill to the mystery Bre was trying to unravel, and I can't wait to see more of her character in the next book.

The last book that I became so engrossed in the drama action scenes was 'The Hunger Games' and I can only compare my feelings when reading a car-chase type scene with the thrill and adrenaline that I had reading 'The Hunger Games' action sequences. I was literally on the edge of my seat, and everytime the car bumped, I'd tense up as though I was in the car. Extroadinary story telling!

Overall, this was a fantastic debut, and I can't wait until the next book is released as 'Awaken' had an evil cliffhanger!

5 stars and a definite recommended read.

I would actually rate this book 4.5 stars if it let me!

First, I must preface this review with making it clear that I KNOW THIS AUTHOR! You might think that means I will be kinder, more gentle, in my review. You don’t know our writer’s group or how we operate! That being said –

Since Young Adult or, as it’s often called now, “New” Adult fiction isn’t my first choice, I was wondering what I might find in Awaken to tease my sensibilities. Because I know Jaime from our chats online and our writing group on Facebook, I didn’t even read what the book might be about (until after I read it). Grabbing my tablet, I sat back expecting to enjoy a sweet ride through teen angst that had a happy ending. What I got instead was a rollercoaster ride that I don’t remember signing up for!

I will admit that the first chapter left me a bit confused. As I read, I found myself thinking, “What is going on?” and, while part of that seemed to be Jaime’s intent, part of it just felt awkward. The second chapter seemed to smooth out and by the third chapter, we were off and running. It reminded me of when a deer (or horse) takes their first steps. It’s a bit disjointed until they get a feel for it. Jamie got a feel for it quickly. Other than that one criticism, I have NONE about this book.

Her plot was so well thought out, with so many twists and turns, it left me wanting more (from chapter three) until an ending that, literally, had me sitting up in bed at 11 p.m. ready to scream. I actually had to email her and yell at her at 11 p.m.! I loved the characters of Bre, Collin and Austin, wanted to find out more about Eve and even felt irritated by Josh – all the feelings that you should feel about these characters. Jaime’s characters seemed so real and pulled right out of any high school, with problems that kids might face – parties, drinking, love, breakups – and a few that most don’t have to face.

While there might be some readers who this book might not be for (um, like those still looking at picture books), it was great to see a young adult book without sex (it was all clean, PG romance), little if any cursing (maybe twice?) and still facing issues in realistic ways. The best way to describe this book? Twilight-esque with FAR better writing. It’s a young adult-paranormal-romance-thriller that will keep you on the edge of your seat until the very last page and I am DYING for the next in the series to be released!

I seriously regret not reading this sooner! When you first hear about this you think it's just like any other paranormal book; Girl has super natural powers, is misunderstood by the world, she falls in love, a crazy event happens where she can show her powers are good and finally everyone accepts her and then she has a happy ending.

Well, boy was I wrong! Awaken was NOTHING like a basic paranormal book. Sure it has the romance (and can I say it is BEAUTIFUL)but the way it happens isn't your typical love story.
The book itself is beautifully well written, It's such a unique story line and I honestly have never read anything like it. The way the author Jamie approaches everything is so unique and very different.
In almost every book I read there is a character that is just there, they are very unnecessary and its just pointless to mention them. Yet in this book there is never that moment, all the characters have a point in the story, they are there for a reason even if you think they aren't necessary in the beginning, they will be in the end.

The whole plot has a mixture of mystery, suspense, love etc.
It just pulls you in and leaves you with tears either from happiness or sadness.
I absolutely LOVED it and it is on my list of favorites!

I recommend it to everyone because it was just so spectacular and it will leave you wanting more. I promise.

I really liked this book. Anything paranormal is right up my alley!

The beginning of it was a little slow, but once the book got further along, things were starting to make sense, and it was so hard to put it down. Jaime did such an amazing job with this... Right when you think you have it all figured out, you are thrown in the opposite direction. I fell in love with most of the characters. Brianna and Collin are of course my favorite. Eve isn't a favorite, and I am curious as to what her story (besides the death of her parents) is in all this. Josh can take a hike for all I care, and even though Brianna doesn't want to see anything happen to him, I would rather him get hurt than Collin. I feel bad for Austin, but I hope things work out in the next book.... which brings me to the end of the book... WHY? WHY? WHY? *shaking my head* My jaw was on the floor! Now I get to ponder on what happens next, and then wait for the next book to come out. That's okay, it's so worth it! Congrats jaime, you have a new fan!!

I was immediately drawn into this book!! The writing is beautiful, the pacing is great! Right away, we get a feeling something is different with Bre. I was immediately drawn into her character and her world. The visions are cloaked in mystery but will keep you riveted as Bre races against the clock for the clues.

There were so many goose bump moments, it was hard to keep track. Twists and turns kept me guessing. I fell in love with Austin. I felt for him and his feelings for Bre. And Collin, this literal ‘boy of her dreams’. Who was he? Who would he be to her? And how would he play into this whole thing? When I found out, I was SHOCKED! Great twist!!

I felt the burden of Bre’s responsibility to do what she needed to do at the tender age of sixteen. I know I would feel the same, but I only hope I could be as strong as her. This was definitely a page-turner, a great and heart-breaking love story, and it left me eagerly awaiting the sequel! I can’t wait!!!

Review on my blog: http://hollysreadinghollow.blogspot.c...

I think I would have really liked this if the story had been condensed a bit. I feel like there were a lot of every day stuff in here that took away from the paranormal aspect of the story. From the inconsequential stuff Bre and her friends talked about to her boyfriend issues, searching for a job, her family issues, reuniting with Austin again, and girl drama...I just thought it was all too much when you then add on Eve, Bre's dreams, the precognition, etc. The precognition idea was a really cool one, but I wasn't able to enjoy it with everything else that was going on in this book. For some of the dialogue, I didn't find it very realistic and the overall pace was on the slower side. Others could really like this book, but, unfortunately, it wasn't for me.

I have just had the opportunity to preview the book that Jaime Guerard is about to publish…WOW! I was so impressed with her ability to tell a story. Her writing style keeps you intrigued and certainly keeps you guessing. There is no predictability in the story line. Throughout the book, she constantly introduces new elements, with twists and turns. Good luck trying to figure out where she is going with the story. You will find out only when she wants you to know.

This is a book that will not only be enjoyed by young people, but people of every age. I can’t tell you how much I loved this book. I anxiously await the sequel!

This story is unique and interesting in many ways. It is energetic and unpredictable, I found the pages turning faster as I followed Breanna’s unfolding life. Everyone must learn to balance responsibilities and desires and this book reminds us of the choices we make everyday that guide our lives. The plot is very intricate and takes some unusual turns that readers will not have seen before. A well-written story that young adults will love! This book was full of energy and well-developed characters, it goes quickly and will leave eagerly awaiting the next installment. Highly recommended!

Awaken is a perfect title to this incredible novel. The author creates a journey that takes the reader along a path of suspense while drawing them in with the romantic twists as the story unfolds. The heartfelt description of each emotional pull of the characters makes the book a page turner. I couldn’t put it down! I loved how the author combined drama, romance, and a spiritual supernatural element to relate to many ages and genres. As soon as it comes out I’m getting my all friends to read it. The suspense is killing!

This book was fantastic! The characters are truly astonishing and you get attached to them so quickly, it's hard to let go! The mysterious and suspenseful scenes in the book make you want to keep ready more. I honestly had to force myself to put the book down! And the ending was amazing! Probably one of the most unexpected cliff hangers I have ever read! This book is definitely worth the read and if you haven't picked it up yet, you should pick it up soon before the second book, Lost, comes out this fall! :)

I don't even know where to start with this book. I went into this book expecting great things because everything I had herd about it was amazing, and now after finishing it, I can fully say that I was blown away by it. Awaken was so freaking good! It is so much more than what meets the eye and so much better than what you are expecting. Just read the book, it will completely blown your mind away and you won't be able to set it down.

I really enjoyed this read!!!! But so frustrated that it ended... And ended with a To Be Continued. AHHHHHHHH!!!! When the second book comes out, I will re-read this to get the full affect. And it is def worth reading again.

I just found out from the the author that the 2nd book is written, and she is currently editing it. I was not given a release date but I am hopeful that it will be soon... YAY!!

I'm genuinely unsure how this has such high ratings. It has little to no organizational structure, has multiple typos (including mispelling the main character's own name twice in the book), and overall feels like a book you'd write on Wattpad when you were in middle school then change your password to something gibberish in your adult years and log out so you never have to deal with it again. It is a mess.
