Back in 2002, James Burns, a graphic designer, was diagnosed with a detached retina, which threatened his eyesight. He had to have both eyes operated on, which was pretty traumatic for a visual artist. After recovering, and at age 45, he wrote and drew his first comic book, "Detached," about the experience, as well as the fear and doubts that were connected with it.
