Mills & Boon Intrigue series brings you stories filled with secrets & seduction...He'd been leading a secret life for years. But Thad Kendall got quite the surprise upon his return home a child he'd never known about. The spy had left Caroline Emerson for her own good, never realizing she'd been carrying his baby and had raised his son alone. Now that was all going to change.
Caroline knew Thad had returned to solve the mystery of his parents' murder not to rekindle their romance. But she never dreamed that having the only man she'd ever loved back in her life would put her and their son in grave danger. For now they'd become the targets of the Christmas Eve killer.

Wonderful conclusion to the series. I really like Thad and the way he was so intent on protecting Caroline and Mark and finding out who had killed his parents. His secret life with the State Department was one that he thought had brought danger back to St Louis with him. When he found out about Mark he was shocked, but he wanted to be a father to his son. I loved the way he was with Mark, so patient and involved right away. Caroline was afraid to get involved with Thad again. She had been so devastated by Thad's departure the last time, she didn't want to go through that again. She also was sure that he was hiding something from her, that he wasn't just a photojournalist. When things started going downhill fast, Thad was able to figure it out, and make it in time to save the day.
This is the 4th and last book of the (Situation:Christmas) series. Each book in the series gives enough background information to be read as a standalone. I loved all 4 books. This was a wonderful way to end the story. When Thad, and his brothers, and sister were little they woke up Christmas morning to find that their parents had been murdered. A man served time for the murder, but later the case was re-opened. The DNA proved that the man was innocent. Around that time the family became a target. In this book Thad found out he was a dad. The mother of his son, and his little boy became the new target. The little boy was kidnapped. Can Thad figure out who the real killer is, and the link to the attacks in time to save his family? Loved the action, suspense, and hint of romance. Caroline Emerson loved Thad years ago. He broke her heart when he left her. When she found out she was pregnant, she had no way to contact him. Now that he is back, she is afraid to give her heart to Thad again. Throughout the story the two build up trust, and a friendship. Great book! Loved the end of the story.
This book had a lot of potential, unfortunately we will never see what it could have been. Some small *spoilers.*
For example: You are reading, going along good, the MC drives to other MC's house to see her because he still loves her, turns out his son (that he never knew he had) opens the door and he know instantly that he is his. STOP Scene jumps to MC loading boy into her friends car so she can talk to the other MC. Ok here we go. They are talking about the kid, MC wants a relationship with him, he says "I am going to be a part of his life", she says "For how long?" STOP JUMP Now the MC is having a family meeting with his brothers about his sisters real dad.
It is like this through the whole book. I hated it. The author left out what could have been some great scenes. Almost like she did'nt want to take the time and finish the scenes because she was rushing to finish the book and send it to the editors.
I will probably make sure I never read another book written by this author.
In Child's romantic suspense novel, Thad Kendall had been living a secret life for years. But the spy got the biggest shock of his life when he returned home to find he had a son he never knew he had by Caroline Emerson, the love of his life. Caroline knew that Thad had returned to solve the murder of his parents--not to see her or rekindle their past romance. But when their son is placed in danger as the Christmas Eve Killer focused his sights on them, she was grateful for Thad's return. A fabulous conclusion to the Situation: Christmas series.
It was really annoying how she kept putting ...?. When there was really no need for it. Every time I saw it I wanted to throw the book somewhere and she kept on jumping from scene to scene. Like when the boy opened the door and saw his father she could have let the scene play out it had a good story line but the writing of it needs to be worked on. And Thad really annoyed me because a he cared about was going bak to work and saying that he couldn't leave his job even if e had knew he had a son what kind of crap is that?
