Bound to the Vampires #1

A Match Made in Hell: Mel's Vampire Coven 1

Rate this book
I killed my lover when he turned into a vampire. Now I'm forced to work with three of them.

An elite mission calls for our best vampire hunter – me – but I'm shocked to find the team is full of vamps. Even worse, it's a mission I can't refuse, and I loathe the agent in charge.

Hudson broke my heart a decade ago, and that was before he became a vamp. He and his equally tempting twin Jackson can go screw themselves. Even more infuriating is the buff former bodyguard Nico, who can't keep his hungry eyes off me.

We're a misfit team destined to fail, almost as if someone wants it that way. It's up to me to figure out what's really going on here. I'll play nice until these vamps reveal their bloodlust.

Then it's time for what I do best... ending them with a strike to their hearts.

A Match Made in Hell is the first book of the complete trilogy, Mel's Vampire Coven, a steamy paranormal romance where the men will fight to earn her love, and she will choose them all.

Taking place in the same universe as the standalone Demon Hunter Academy, A Match for Hell is an entertaining fantasy/PNR why choose story. There are a few character crossovers from the standalone, but it is not necessary to read prior to this book. However, it does enhance the experience.

Mel is a vampire hunter for the DHA who has been assigned to work with a specialized unit to break up an organization of vampires who have been preying on Mundanes (non-magical people) and witches. Unfortunately, her coworkers are vampires themselves, and one is an ex from her academy days. To make things even more problematic, the other two vampires dated before and had a less-than-amicable break-up.

I loved the distinction between vampire types – there is a difference between those that retain their human instincts and those that succumb to the blood lust - an important distinction that drives a huge portion of the plot. All vampires are considered demons in the eyes of the DHA and are inherently the enemy of demon hunters. Working together as a team is difficult because neither can trust the other.

I would say the second chance romance causes a low to medium level of angst. This is primarily a product of two sets of exes who lack communication skills or are unwilling to share their secrets. Plus, by the time they reconnect, there have been years of hurt between them that must be overcome. I love the longing looks and wishful thoughts throughout and look forward to the eventual HEA. There is very mild MM, mainly in the form of flashbacks to past encounters between the two male vampire exes. Nothing explicit.

This is an excellent book for those who love their romance with a heavy emphasis on the plot. I predict the following books will have more steam as the characters learn how to work together as a team.

I read and loved Demon Hunter Academy By Traci Lovelot, I thought it was just a standalone story, imagine my surprise when I found out it was just the prequel. Traci has brought readers back to the Infernal World with Mel's Vampire Coven and I loved A Match for Hell.

Carmela "Mel" Plata is the very definition of a fierce warrior. A solo witch who takes out her target every time, she lives and breathes the job. However, Mel is also stubborn to a fault, distrustful, and is a lone wolf and likes it that way. When I first read her character at the end of Demon Hunter Academy I didn't think I would like her but Mel has grown on me. She took the most tragic event in her life and used it to transform herself and while she was stuck in her ways she's not afraid to admit when she is truly wrong it's just relationships she has trouble with. The woman has built a wall around herself but she's slowly lowering them for the right people.

Then the solo witch is assigned a team made up of an old flame, his twin, and a hot bodyguard who had a relationship with said twin things get complicated especially since the three guys are all vampires, Mel's target of choice. Hudson, Jax, and Nico may be vampires but they are all really good guys. Hudson is the bossy, responsible type but has a heart and is stubborn just like a certain vampire hunter. Jax is Hudson's twin and while they look identical their personalities are most definitely different. Jax is a sweetheart, he has a kind soul and cares very deeply, he must be protected at all costs. In case you couldn't tell, the man is my favorite character in this series. As for Nico, the bodyguard is a man of mystery and while he is closely guarded I trust him.

This is a polyromance, so that means many different relationships going on in one group, there is so much baggage between some of the group members, and between that and the life experiences, they all had made for the most frustrating relationship drama I've ever read. I wanted to shake them. Things do turn out surprisingly, I just can't wait until they get their crap together.

The magic in this world is complicated and awesome. I couldn't explain it if I tried but the level of detail that Lovelot put into this magic system was impressive. There are two government-type organizations The Demon Hunter Agency "DHA" is local and The Organización Internacional de Brujos "OIB" is worldwide, surprisingly enough the OIB doesn't seem that bad but I can't say the same for DHA. The DHA is led by people (with a couple exceptions) who have let power go to their heads, they're cruel and unreasonable. The way they treat Mel is uncalled for, they set things up to fail. I don't trust them and I know they will cause even more problems in the future.

A Match for Hell was great, I had expectations from the prequel and Lovelot didn't disappoint, it was everything I could have expected and more. I love the characters and the world has become even more complex than in the prequel plus there was plenty of drama and enough action to keep me on my toes. I can't wait to see what happens in No Good Intentions.

Traci Lovelot did it again with this amazing start at a new series, Mels Vampire Coven! I love the characters and can't wait to get to know them better. Will Mel truly be able to form a real coven with vampires? What is Nicos story? Will Nico and Jax reconcile? I have more questions but don't want to give out too much. I loved reading a bit more about Nim, Rye, Fox, and Lan from Demon Hunters Academy plus their friends. I'm glad that i became a paetron so that i could get the early read but now i sit in frustration and wait dor book 2. Although I love that i will get bonus chapters and sneak peeks to carry me through. Thanks, Traci for creating a wonderful world rich with intriguing characters and a solid mystery.

Was a little slow in the beginning… this novel is definitely a slow burn! I am not a huge slow burn person, so this novel just wasn’t for me. I needed more angst and tension. Although, they are enemies (vampires) and vampire hunter I felt like there was so much that needed to be said. Especially since these enemies to lovers all have an entangled past!

The pacing of the novel felt off for me and I struggled a little bit with the plot. At times I felt a bit confused, but this could be due to the book setting everything up for the rest of series! There was some set up but I felt like more things needed to be explained. There isn't a lot of plot due to the first book being extremely surface level. It tries to show you the team dynamics, but fails to go in depth about the characters and their backstories.

The main female character was rather annoying… she never really listened. She used her past trauma to make a blanket opinion and that seemed to be the only opinion she could have! No one and nothing was ever gonna change her mind about vampires (until she started to see things with her own eyes).

I also felt like the characters lacked depth. We knew Mel didn't like vampires, and she continually fought her feelings due to this. She didn't want to give any of the men a chance, despite their efforts to show her that they are different. The men even in danger themselves to cover her butt after she lets her emotions get the best of her on a mission. It just made her extremely unlikable and frustrating. Especially, when she once loved Hudson and believes that now that he’s a vampire he is a horrible monster!!!

Ultimately, I was expecting more for this book.
Personally the characters and plot were not for me.

I also think that I shouldn’t have read this book first since the cameo characters pop up a lot I think I should’ve started with their story!

Mel (Carmela) thinks she knows all she needs to about vampires, for she has hunted them for years, but will this change when she has to work with some? Mel is teamed up with her ex Hudson, his brother Jax (Jackson) and Nico (Jax's ex) to do her next mission, but have they been setup for failure? I loved the attraction between this group, the angst, banter and intriguing plot. I look forward to what happens next.

Such a great book-can't wait for more

Genuinely a lovely book. I can't wait for the second book in the series. How her refusal will go, what her coven will do. Very exciting.

Mel’s Vampire Coven

This book kept me intrigued the whole time. I couldn’t wait to see where it would go next in the complex characters that were presented here! My only complaint is how short the book was and where it ended at!! I can’t wait for book two!!

ARC from Author - no spoilers!
Firstly its Book 1 and ends on a cliffhanger, Book 2 is due out Jan 2023 and will be a trilogy. Main characters all 30+
Its a Polyromance/RH, second chance, slow burn with low level spice and historical mention of MM
Visiting characters from a standalone book, Demon Hunter Academy, set a few years previously where you first meet the FMC Mel. However, if like me, this is your first visit to The Infernal Rending Universe this is not required reading, but I shall be rectifying it pretty darn quick because I am hooked well and truly!!
Mel is a covenless Witch, fierce, strong and single minded who works for the local Demon Hunter Agency, supervised by Nim whilst on probation and hates Vampires. Hudson and Jax are twin brothers with different personalities - Hudson edges more Alpha whilst Jax more Cinnamon Roll in my opinion and then we have my favourite; the brooding behemoth Nico! We don't get to know much about Nico in this installment but I have my suspicions - I simply adore Nico by the way, he sizzles!
Hudson, Jax and Nico are all Vampires - no secrets divulged there and work for The Organización Internacional de Brujos which is worldwide.
Mel and the Vampires are assigned a job together, working as a Team and that is where the intrigue and pace of the book really picks up. I could not put the book down. Loved the characters, the dynamics, how they reacted to situations, revelations past and present, lust and angst - all so believable and likeable. The growth of Mels character in particular was so well written.
This is plot heavy and drew me in, keeping your brain questioning and wanting more that I didn't even realise we had a thunder storm here lol
Some spice to titillate, I hope this intensifies the further we get into the tale as the tension is certainly building. Particularly liked the differing classification of Vampires, added a new slant.
All in all a superb first installment in a rich, well crafted world with a story I did not want to end. Cannot wait for January.

More than a 2, not really a 3 for me. Spoilers ahead.

I guess I'm striking out these days with book series. This one has a good premise. Vampire hunter forced to work with vampires, corrupt officials, and pretty good background at this point. That however is where the strength in this story ends.

Characters:
We don't really know any of these characters or their motivations aside from insta lust/like/love. We see some of their past but not enough to make you care for them. The main character for me was boring to read because she just kept repeating the "I hate vampires how could I want to fuck three of them, oh gasp" in her head on repeat. We get it. And sorry but if you are the last few states that are a hold out, how did you not know that vamps are not all bad?

I like Jax. Mostly because with the chapters we get on the guys we actually learn a little more about him and have something to latch onto character wise but Nico and Hudson fell flat. Mostly just felt not developed at this point.

Plot:
Hm. Not really a big plot push for a first book intro. We get some superficial missions but mostly the plot is the "enemies to lovers" we get inside their monologues. Not enough to keep pushing.

Also. Are we really waiting for a 2-3 book reveal that she didn't actually kill her boyfriend.? No body and she is just so adamant on her skills to prove he's dead? That is a waving flag of foreshadowing. The only thing I'd want to know is if he forgives her and joins her coven. Other than that meh.

Overall I wanted this to be a book I liked. I wanted a new paranormal series to read and to be honest I've missed vampires, because fae have gotten overdone. But alas, here we are.

It's not my first book from this author, so I was thrilled when this one has become available for review. If you haven't read the prequel (Demon Hunter Academy), I recommend it!

As for this one: get ready for a slow burn RH romance. The book isn't only about love, or sex, or smth else - it's a whole new world you are entering. The world is full of demons, vampires, demon and vampire hunters. You'll meet corrupted leaders, strong-willed and capable women and very, very interesting men.

The storyline flows smoothly, the characters are well-described. And I really hope that they will evolve through next books. There are some secrets we don't know even in the end of this first story.

I don't want to write any spoilers, I just highly recommend this book (and other books by Traci Lovelot) to those, who love fantasy and paranormal mixed with hot scenes and great characters.

Spectacular! Loved All of the Main Characters! Mel is adaptable and strong. Hudson is Mel's lost love. Jackson is his sweet, loving twin. Nico is a huge beef bodyguard. Who will win her heart? ;-) The characters are racially diverse. It's low key enough to keep you guessing. The lead witch is Chicana. She refers to people as pale to 2 shades darker than me. Totally doesn't matter to her. :-)
The world building is fantastic. It's a new universe. The storyline- world building, character personality, was consistent and believable.
Loved it and can't wait for the next part of the story...

Looking for a good reverse harem with a large dose of magic and a touch suspense? Then this book is everything you need. The characters are interesting and diverse and carry the story well. The plot is well conducted and leaves you guessing how things are going to resolve.
Of course, as this is the first book in a series, you'll have side effects including wanting to know more about the characters backgrounds, feeling that you need the second installment asap, and needing to fan yourself because there are some hot scenes.

Loved this start to Mels coven series, it is a reverse harem, enemies to lovers book that has spice but is a slow burn, with a great story line and ends on a cliffhanger.
Although it is the first book in Mels story there is a prequel novel Demon Hunter Academy which is set in the same world but at an earlier date so some of the characters appear in both. I can't wait to find out what happens next.

I really need to know how the next mission goes and I’m not sure I can wait until the next book comes out. Mel isn’t an easy person to get to know but boy does she command respect. Jackson became my favorite, although the other two aren’t far behind. The same baddies are still around and I dislike them even more. Great read!.

I absolutely loved this story with a very strong heroine Mel/ Carmela a witch who hates vampires ever since they killed her mother so she became a hunter, now she’s been given a assignment to work with vampires and her ex Hudson is the one in charge. There is so much more going on in this story but it ends on a cliffhanger and I can’t wait to read the next book in this series and I highly recommend this book.

Just finished this gorgeous series and what a series it was. I loved the originality and consistency of the world building, the characters were so human and awesome and *mwah* and I loved the mix of good plot, good steam, and a whole lot of badass.

Mel is so awesome and so very real, and I loved the individuality of Nico, Hudson and Jax. I did feel perhaps it dragged on a little bit in the beginning/middle of the third book, but I was so happy with the satisfying ending that I can't complain.

Loved this book! Mel is fierce and she just may have met her match- or matches.

A unique take on vampires and magic. The world building is great and organic. All of the characters are well developed.

Fast paced action and delicious spice. Mel is a strong and sometimes sassy witch with biting commentary, but the three vampires she is ordered to work with also pack some bite.

This is an amazing book. I did read Demon Hunter Academy first which I would recommend because it will help make sure you have answers about some of the things mentioned in this book. This story follows Mel, Hudson, Jax, and Nico on their journey to show vampires are still witches.

This was an absolutely amazing book! The plot was good and the character development was extraordinary! Mel was an amazing MFC. Super witty, and I loved her sarcasm. Hudson, Jax, and Nico were all great MMC's. I loved how complex everyone's relationships were and how the group dynamic developed as the book went on. There was plenty of action in the book and the cliff hanger ending left you desperate for the next book to come out soon.

Mel doesn't like vampires. She is given a mission that makes her day. Unfortunately, she'll have to work with vampires to complete it. To make matters worse, her ex-boyfriend Hudson is one of the vampires along with his twin Jackson and their friend Nico. Will Mel keep her heart locked down or lose it to her teammates?

This book is a slow-burn and so very angsty but I really enjoyed it. It is RH but there is next to no actual steam just lots of longing. The plot was great though. I loved the world building and the vampire and witch lore. It was a good mix of old and new. I cannot wait for the next book and I hope the heat gets turned up a little bit.
