In just one session a week, Rochelle Rice takes you through a series of special routines that can boost your metabolism, lower cholesterol and blood pressure, and make your body more firm - no matter what you weigh.
Rochelle Rice, MA, is the President of In Fitness & In Health and the creator of the Plus-Size Exercise Technique. In researching fitness programs for women of size, it became evident that there was a lack of program design and availability of certified trainers specializing in larger women. With her history of bulimia, Rice’s interest in Plus-Size Exercise came through her concerns about the inordinate stress put on thinness in our society, rather than fitness. Providing a safe environment where women could exercise physically while feeling secure emotionally, became Rice’s passion. Designing a fitness technique where women of size could achieve a level fitness was the base of her graduate work.
Excellent focus on safe exercises for the larger woman. This book is not only exercises but also deals with the "politics" of being plus size and the negative judgements, subtle and not subtle persecution of being Plus size in our society. She openly discusses the prejudice that is encountered by all things - ones MD and support health team. She encourages one to find a MD that does not have that prejudice. She also touches on the Corporations and the media who are making millions off dieting and surgery. She provides support and practical movement options. Rochelle Rice has a movement program for Plus size in New York. Kelly Bliss offers classes in Philadelphia. When will the West Coast catch up with this trend? Lets face it, exercises for larger people should be safe and realistic and not cause injury.
I was excited to find this book, but when I read it, I found that it seems to be aimed at women who are less fit than I am, so a lot of it didn't apply to me. Good motivational tool, though, and an excellent program for a woman who finds that her body is working against her in terms of getting fit. The most useful thing I got, actually, from the book, is the weekly motivators you can sign up to get from the author via her website, and the teleconferences she offers on a variety of fitness related topics.
