It was supposed to be just a weekend away from the city, away from the chaos, away from every one of my worries. Yet, here I was, running through the woods and getting chased by someone in a mask.

It was time for The Hunt, and if I wasn't fast enough, I was gonna get caught.

"The Hunt" is a dark erotic short story, intended for mature audiences only. It is under 10k words and it takes less than an hour to be read. The story ends with a HEA. Please check CW before reading it.

If scary movies trigger you, then don’t read this

And I’m talking about the scenes where someone is running in the wrong direction or doing something stupid and you’re like “DON’T DO THAT!!! TURN AROUND!!!” And they do it anyway 🤣 (this book doesn’t exactly do that, but I did find myself palming my face a few times 🤣)

This was one looooooooooooooooooong primal play scene 👀 and it was 🥵.

Aurora’s on her way home when she avoids hitting an animal. She gets out to check, in the rain, and feels like someone’s watching her. She feels off. She can’t find what she almost hit, so she just ignores it and goes home.

But she’s so discombobulated that she forgets her groceries or just the normal things she would do once she gets home.

And then she hears noises…

And then she hears a robotic voice, turns around, and finds herself face to face with a masked man…

And she starts running for her life…

What I liked: possible spoilers
—the pictures! Look. The books I read don’t have pictures, so when I see them, I just get excited 🤣

—how gloomy the setting it 😅. I started it in bed and decided to wait until it was daylight to finish it 🤣

—the 🔥. Uffff. Jeeeezus 🥵💦

—how alpha the mask is 🫠. Again. Uffff 🥵

—primal play galore 😉

—pierced d 👀 (I low key felt a little bit of pain for Aurora 🤣)

What I wanted more of/didn’t like: SPOILERS
—there were elements/noises that weren’t explained 😅. When they’re finally together in the woods, they hear a noise. Like a metal noise. What was it? Also, when it’s revealed they were basically role playing, she mentions noises she heard in the house, and he clarifies that it wasn’t him… so who was it??? What’s going on???? She just ignores it 🤦🏻‍♀️. If it’s not gonna be anything, then don’t bring it up 🤷🏻‍♀️. Meanwhile, I’m creating scenarios involving spirits and bad guys that aren’t ever going to appear 🤣

—there were grammar/spelling mistakes/tense shifts. I see that the author isn’t American? So maybe English is her second language? It didn’t bother me too much though

—I couldn’t help but think about how muddy and dirty they are when she’s running and then he’s primal playing her 😅. I wish I wouldn’t think about this lol. Afterwards, they shower, but I just wanted to make sure she wasn’t going to get a UTI 🤣💀 (I’m terrible. I know 💀)

—more to their story. The epilogue is basically aftercare. But… there’s another book, so I’m definitely going to read it lol

Overall, this was a fun, smutty read

Overview:
I received an ARC copy of this 'short horror erotica story' with only guesses of what might be held inside. As usual with ARC's, I skipped the trigger page and went straight to the story. Oh, man... When the grunt of the story started to play out I thought I was going to HATE this book, but I couldn't quit halfway through. I pushed forward all the way to the end, and I am so glad I did. Without giving any spoilers, the ending of the book turns the whole book upside-down. What you thought was one thing is now another. Who you thought was someone is now someone else. And a nightmare ends up being a HEA, or maybe HFN... You can figure that out for yourself

Nitty Gritty **No Spoilers**
- Setting/World Build: This story being short, I did not have high expectations for a lot of thought or time going into the setting. Simeonova did a wonderful job giving detailed descriptions of the setting from start to finish (more detailed than some 400pg books I've read.)
- Character Build: Simeonova builds her FMC very well. In the way that this book is written, I support that being the only character she dove into. The MMC is given physical descriptors and built with the plot. Any mentioned support characters were given some background regarding the reason they were brought into the story.
- Plot: Think "short horror erotica" and that's exactly what Steli Simeonova gave in "The Hunt". I was put off at first, then kind of asking myself what was wrong with me, but by the end I loved it and honestly.. I wanted more.

Final Thoughts:
This book is not for the faint of heart, and I suggest you read the triggers. BUT if the triggers are a "ehhh I don't think so" and not a "oh hell no," READ IT!!

This is a novella that sold me from the dedication page. 😂 You know how I am a sucker for masked men. 🤷‍♀️ 👻

The scene is a dark and stormy night after Aurora is off from a long shift working as a RN… and she is driving to her cabin in the middle of the woods. She ends up getting chased in the woods and the spice is hot… but I wish there was more of it!

I'm not giving away the twist at the end, but how it was written slightly annoyed me, so hence the point deduction. Sorry!

Overall, I enjoyed this short romance and think if you also love masked men, you’ll likely enjoy it, too.

This is the first thing I have ever read by this author. I have to admit, that I had a hard time getting into the story.

I really did not like the FMC at first.
Why? Well, there were some things that were said that just rubbed me the wrong way.
What were those things? Well, like being a nurse, but driving at high speeds in rain so bad she couldn’t properly see. Or, “As a lone woman, I preferred eating in the kitchen, not having to move all the plates to the other room, and then returning them back to the sink.” Why her being a lone woman matters, I am not fully sure.

But, when it gets down to it, there are medical professionals who speed, and there are people who have these sorts of thoughts, regardless of gender. Sometimes, to make a story feel more real, you gotta make those characters real in how they act and think.

Would I reread this? Probably not.
Would I read more by this author? Absolutely.

I haven’t really been in my Smut era, but every now and then I miss it. This book was a short read and it was dirty 🌶️, which is what I was looking for 😂

The ending got me.. I wasn’t expecting that. The only downfall was the pet name “kitty”.. I just am not a fan of that.

Overall, this was an enjoyable short .. filthy read 😂

Aurora is heading to her villa in the woods for a relaxing weekend away from the hustle and bustle of normal life and is on high alert when a few things seem off.
Soon enough a masked stranger is terrorising her, chasing her through the woods and marking her as his toy.

This is a great little short erotic read with a small plot and lots of spice.

A Steamy Escape
Rating: ⭐⭐⭐✨
Heat Level: 🔥🔥🔥🔥
As a newcomer to Steli Simeonova's literary world, I ventured into "The Hunt" with intrigue and anticipation. This short, smutty tale was a whirlwind of intense BDSM play and fantasy role-play, offering little in terms of backstory but making up for it with sheer heat and narrative allure.

Set against the backdrop of a weekend getaway, the protagonist finds themselves thrust into a thrilling game of pursuit, chased through the woods by a mysterious figure in a mask. The premise is simple yet effective, immersing readers into a world of dark eroticism and tantalizing suspense.

Clocking in at under 10k words, "The Hunt" wastes no time in delivering its promised thrill. From start to finish, the narrative is fast-paced and relentless, drawing readers deeper into its seductive web with every turn of the page. While the lack of backstory may leave some craving more depth, the focus on pure BDSM play and fantasy role-play ensures an immersive experience for those seeking a steamy escape.

Despite its brevity, the author's skillful prose and vivid descriptions paint a vivid picture of the protagonist's journey, evoking a palpable sense of tension and desire. Each scene is crafted with precision, igniting the senses and leaving a lasting impression long after the final page is turned.

For fans of dark erotica and intense BDSM dynamics, "The Hunt" is sure to satisfy cravings for adrenaline-fueled passion and forbidden desire. While it may be a quick read, its impact is undeniable, leaving readers breathless and eager for more. Just be sure to heed the warning and check content warnings before diving in.

In summary, "The Hunt" may be short, but it packs a powerful punch. With its combination of sizzling heat, gripping narrative, and tantalizing fantasy, it earns a solid 3.5 stars and a Heat Level 4 rating, making it a must-read for those who like their romance served with a side of danger and desire.

⭐️⭐️⭐️1/2- This is my first time reading this genre and I was very interested to see if I would like it. The premise for the story was intriguing to me. I do have triggers but I had seen the premise of the book and thought I could handle it. I did not review the trigger warnings in advance. I did just fine reading the story and was not triggered, so that is a bonus.

I feel that the author had a great idea for this story and the 2nd half of the book really lived up to the genre. She is able to have you experience it as if you are there.

The first half of the book was not able to keep me engaged. I believe that English not being her first language is the reason for this issue. I had too much confusion on what was being described and world built that I wasn’t able to fall into the story and be scared. Again, great idea and could have been amazing but not quite able to pull it off for this reader. A review by an editor may help solve the problem. In my opinion, as she continues to write hopefully, this will become a non-issue.
If you are at all intrigued by the blurb for this story, it is worth the read and a follow of this author to experience her future books. If you have triggers and the blurb leaves you with concern, please review trigger warnings first.

Aurora is staying at her villa in the mountains for the weekend for some well needed peace and relaxation.
It should be a quiet and uneventful night even through the storm until she discovers an intruder.
This strange male with a creepy mask has her running into the darkness but the game has only just begun.
She will be the prey in this scenario and hunted she will be.

I absolutely loved this short story with its powerful imagery and attention to detail that has you feeling every drip of water or fear.
The build up is perfectly weaved to have you on the edge of your seat as our main female dashes through the trees in search of help which will not come.
I loved the flow of these dark erotic stories that truly speak to the sadistic soul within.
I am in awe of the natural talent this young author possesses and which she can perfectly use to transport the reader into these situations.
Brilliantly timed stories that will give you a thrill of excitement and have your own heart tripping with anticipation.
This author has very quickly risen to the top in my eyes for this particular genre and I cannot wait for further kinks to be explored.

📚 the hunt by steli simeonova

✏️ review!

This book is advertised as a short erotic horror story. And I honestly couldn't think of a better way to describe it.

I started this book enjoying a hot, candle lit bubble bath, got half way through feeling jumpy at every noise and flicker of the candles; then finally finished cursing myself and this book for the rollercoaster it forced me on.

This book is a very quick and easy (as long as your a dark romance pro 🤣) read. It follows the FMC on her way to have a relaxing weekend away from work at a family house in the woodlands. However once arriving she finds the whole vibe is off and quickly discovers she is not alone. The following chase, to get away from her masked attacker, can only be described as a check list for nearly every trigger warning a book can contain. And I am HERE FOR IT. Spicy level 🌶️🌶️🌶️🌶️🌶️

The way this book is an extremely short read, and yet manages to flesh out the world and characters quickly and concisely in order for you to be dragged into its world is amazing. And guys and girls the TWIST ending had me screaming at myself for not seeing it coming.

This short and (not so) sweet book is an easy 5 stars for me. ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐

Here Kitty, Kitty!

This book dives right in, following the FMC as she sets out for a supposedly relaxing weekend only to find herself in a nightmare. What starts as a break from city life becomes an intense game of survival when a masked stranger begins the Hunt and she realizes it’s run or be caught.

What I Loved: This story’s dark and suspenseful atmosphere kept me on edge, and there’s a major twist at the end that I didn’t see coming! The writing does a fantastic job building tension and heat, and the spice is definitely a highlight. I also loved the high-stakes cat-and-mouse setup—it’s fast-paced and thrilling.

What Could’ve Been Better: I would’ve loved to see the FMC put up a bit more of a fight, making the masked stranger work to catch her. That could’ve added to the suspense and her character depth. But even so, it’s a fun, quick read with an engaging plot.

Who’s it For? If you’re into dark romance with a chase, high tension, and steamy moments, this book is your next pick.

Would I reread : No.

Whoops and there it goes! 2 hours of my life down the drain. This was insanely bad, I have almost no words to describe how bad it is so I'm going to let the quotes speak for themselves.

To whomever enjoys this stuff, you do you, but personally I would rather watch paint dry then read another page of this crap. Also the art at the end has to be AI, the angles would never work, that whole frame is just a fever dream.

This book is a dark romance novella with a whole check list of trigger warnings 😏 make sure to check before reading.

Aurora is staying at her parents villa for the weekend as she’s been stressed out by work. It’s in the middle of no where and she is on edge from weird patients and what took place on the road before she arrived at the house. When suddenly there’s a masked man in the house. Who’s looking to hunt Aurora and she has to run. The twist at the end has me so mad at myself for not seeing it coming!

The spice in this book was amazing I will be continuing to read more from this author thank you so much for an ARC copy of this book 🫶

For a short one, there were a lot of really irrelevant details and unnecessary longwinded explanations added in which turned me off it a bit. Also thought the fmc might actually be a photocopier by the amount of scanning she did throughout the story. Clunky writing and odd verbiage in a lot of places that makes it feel more like a school essay than a novella, but I’d give some grace on this as English perhaps is a second language to the author. But to my surprise, the smutty parts were actually pretty well written, good detail and non-cringe…came to wonder if the author had wrote out this really good scene first and then just quickly scraped out the rest. 1 star is the best I can give to this particular novella, but I wouldn’t be opposed to reading her other works as the potential is there.

This was a decent little erot!ca to read. Kinda fun and a little s€×y, if not really h0t. Cute storyline to go with it.

Obviously, as an erot!c short, there is no character development, nor any real worldbuilding. It's the h0t s€× that we really want. I wouldn't consider this short as super h0t but it was fairly fun and decently done, especially if it's your k!nk. It was, in my opinion, a little too short to really get into the h0t stuff though. I think it could have been much better had the author taken more time to really delve into the k!nk more. Good potential; not quite a great hit.

Side note: there are some errors. I don't personally take stars for a handful of errors, but I do like to make note for potential readers. I hate to see an authors work judged or turned in for a couple little misses; I just don't find the necessity in that. So be warned and give a little grace.

The Hunt by Steli Simeonova is about Aurora who takes a little vacation away from her work life out to her families cabin in the woods where things take a very dark turn.

This book does contain trigger warnings so please read before you start this short story.

Auroras story definitely took my by surprise. I am definitely a sucker for stalker romances and erotic smut. This short story hit all those pulse points. If you like series or books of this genre, then this story will definitely satisfy those kinks. The plot twist definitely had me shell shocked and I was living for it. Thank you for letting me read this little short story as I will probably reread it several times.

This was a super quick, super thrilling read!

Aurora is looking for 48 hours of peace in her villa in the mountains. Upon her arrival, she’s apprehensive given an event that occurred on the road, and seeing what she things is a figure in the tree-line of the woods behind the house.

All of a sudden, a masked figure emerges in the house wanting to hunt her. She takes off, scared, into the woods to escape. He chases, and ultimately defiles her.

There are a ton of triggers, so please mind them.

This is an erotic short story, and is about 70 pages.
It was very smutty towards the last 20%, obviously having to build up to that point. I definitely saw the twist at the end coming, but still enjoyed nonetheless!

This is one of several in a collection of erotic novellas and I will be reading the rest! I enjoyed this one!

This is a short taboo story. It explores a lot of kinks and fantasies. Aurora goes to her home in the woods on a dark and stormy night. It also happens to be close to Halloween. A masked intruder breaks into her home and tells her, "Aurora, I want your body and your soul. I want to own them and play with them. I want everything you can give me.” Then the chase or hunt is on. The ending gives a little unexpected twist. The story makes a little more sense and perhaps isn't as taboo then. This story definitely falls into the dark, taboo, erotic romance.

This is a juicy little titbit if a story - a thrill of the chase fantasy in words. Exquisitely written: tense, atmospheric, compelling and hot as hell! Loved the twist at the end!

The entire focus of the book is the chase and eventual capture of Aurora, followed by graphic depictions of sexual scenes as her captor takes what he wants from her. It has non con elements so check out the TWs before reading.

Obviously I can't say too much about this story because the ending is intriguing and talking about that would give it all away. All I ca say is it's a love it or hate it ending. I loved it.
