Wicked Masquerade is presented as one of two in a “Sinful Duet.” A dark romance between renowned artist Tristan and master’s student Nova, set against the backdrop of serial murders. Tristan is portrayed as layered and dark, but not much was revealed about why—and while I don’t need everything spelled out, I would’ve appreciated more depth.
Nova was also difficult to connect with. There was some exploration of her past, but it felt brushed over.
The story could have balanced the murder mystery and romance more effectively—the pacing just felt off. I liked it overall, but I was left unsatisfied. It ends on a cliffhanger, and if the author releases a sequel, I’ll definitely pick it up. I really enjoy her other work, so I’m hopeful for a stronger conclusion.
