“Lazy Thomas:…” is a strange little novella with uneven pacing, limited character development and moments of good action. Author, Brad Stucki, could benefit from the assistance of a good editor to help with the mechanics of short form fiction. It’s not easy to get all the elements into less than 56 pages, which is what this story works out to be after adjusting for white space and publishing stuff.

Thomas is the only character we learn much about and most of that was predictable. The rest of the settlement members are nebulous save one brief encounter with a young girl and Thomas for 2 paragraphs. It’s not enough to care about them which for me, makes the book less interesting.

There are 4-5 good chapters near the end where the action is compelling and I stopped looking for a reason to keep reading. Unfortunately, the ending was anticlimactic - we see it coming from early on. There’s no surprise, no real twist and there are much better short stories.

A little gem

Don't know where the 'western' has any relevance, but it's a pleasant little story, if just a tad bit predictable

On heck of a good tale

Started a little on the depressing side. Got really interesting as the story goes on. Very good story.. Two more words required.
