COMING IN HOT
Starting a new life in Florida means year-round sunshine, beautiful beaches, and balmy breezes. For most people, anyway. But not for thirtysomething Piper and her grandmother, former members of a motorcycle gang in Oregon. For them, it means entering the witness protection program and moving to Bitter End in the Sunshine State. Yes, to Bitter End. It doesn’t get much more ironic than this. But hey, it’s better than rotting in jail for getting busted with tax evasion and money laundering, and infinitely better than getting killed by said gang for testifying against them.
Needless to say, they both have difficulties adjusting to life in Florida. Moving into a retirement community and dealing with all those quirky characters? Wearing flip-flops instead of biker boots? Where do you even hide your gun if you’re wearing those godawful muumuu dresses? Not to mention, they’re supposed to keep everything on the right side of the law now? Ugh!
Oh, and there’s that dead body in their neighbor’s front yard. Instead of laying low, Piper and her Gran somehow get sucked into that murder mystery. When they realize they’re in too deep and their cover is almost blown, they have no other choice but to find the killer before it’s too late.
FOOL ME ONCE
Thirtysomething Piper Harris and her grandmother, former members of a motorcycle gang, are struggling to adjust to their new life in Bitter End, Florida, after being relocated there at a retirement complex as part of the witness protection program. Let’s just say Gran laundered money so well, she washed away their freedom. It’s crucial for Piper and Gran to lay low, but how can they do that when they get involved in another murder investigation?
Lloyd and Tammy Feldman are financial managers, offering investments to the seniors of the Bitter End retirement community. But when Tammy turns up dead and Lloyd becomes a fugitive, their business is exposed as a fraud. Now, the seniors are searching for answers, for Lloyd, and for their money. And Piper searches as well. Nobody messes with her tribe. Yes, okay, it takes some convincing from her mischief-loving next-door neighbor, Edie, but what else is new?
Will Piper blow the lid off the swindle, or will she blow her own cover?
BAR NONE
It’s been two months since Piper and her Gran relocated to Bitter End, Florida, as part of the witness protection program, and things are only slightly looking up. That is, if you don’t count another murder. Piper has taken a bartending job at a dive bar that’s shadier than a palm tree at night. Dealing with questionable characters comes with the territory, but she’s used to that. After she threatens one of the patrons with a knife, she stumbles upon his dead body in the alley later that night. She is not used to that.
She is content to let the police deal with it, but then, on the corpse, she finds a note with her name on it—her witness protection name—which will now need further protection! Piper is then propelled into a high-stakes pursuit of uncovering her mysterious connection to a total stranger-turned-murder-victim.
Deany Ray has always wanted to be a writer so she decided to take the plunge and dive into it. She loves writing cozy mysteries, as this is what she likes to read the most. Her favorite activities are traveling, going to the movie theatre, meeting up with friends and having cooking sessions with her awesome mom.
Had me cracking up. Gran and Piper's reactions to their new living environment is completely unexpected. The grand daughter gets roped into solving murders with their senior citizen neighbor, and the fact that they come out mostly unscathed is a miracle. Edie is a contradiction, but definitely what the Harris girls need. Witness protection would probably have theme going crazy if it wasn't for the retirement communities inability to leave them alone. I really enjoyed the stories. The last one may have been the first where Piper really missed the mark and could have died.
A sweet young thing makes a new life for herself and grandma. They bring a little excitement to a retirement community, finding dead bodies, having (paint gun) fights with the seniors and a lot of laughs along the way. Thrills and chills. Learn all you need to know about bookies! ( and then some)
Drama and humour combined to make the three novels impossible to put down. Piper and her grandmother were relocated to a retirement complex, in Florida. They were in the witness protection system, and had no choice in the matter. The characters were varied and I enjoyed their interactions, especially when the bodies began turning up.
Loved this book! Enjoy the interaction with Dottie the neighbor and her grandma. Like the quirky people that live in the retirement community. Can’t wait for her to get together with the neighbors grandson. Looking forward to their next adventure.
Enjoyed the characters and the mix of action and family dynamics. All 3 books kept my attention and I found myself going from one to next more like chapter to chapter than book to book. Am going immediately to book 4.
Interesting, funny take on the lives of the senior set and a young woman.
The psychology of forced lifestyle changes and murder go well together. The added interactions of people who are losing their inhibitions makes an interesting and funny read.
This series is this best laugh out loud story I have read in ages! Absolutely love the characters. Their antics are exciting and action packed which for a senior living community is pretty amazing. On to the next three books in the series! Thank you!
Couldn't put down the first three books. Loved the interaction between Piper, Gran and Edie, not to mention Ryker and Theodore! Can't wait to read the next 3 books!
Deny Ray is a new author to me, but I expect to read more of Piper Harris's adventures. This series gives us a new view of the government's witness protection program. Highly recommended.
DNF couldn’t even get to 10% of the book. I got to 8%and realised I couldn’t care what the characters were doing who killed who why they had to move for boring book. And it was not funny at all so don’t know what the other reviews are talking about
Interesting that the author is from Transylvania but seems a natural writing about about the US and Witsec v vampires. Great characters. Inventive stories. Laugh out loud humor!
This volume of stories was so hilarious and fun to read that I couldn't put it down till I had read all three stories. They were engaging, and entertaining.
I really enjoyed the characters in the books.. They really had some funny moments. They are well written and not very dark. I would highly recommend them.
