Songs of the Season

What I loved most about this devotional was the structure of songs. Each week focused on a different song for the season: (1) The Song of Mary, (2) The Song of Zechariah, (3) The Song of the Angels, and (4) The Song of Simeon. It is a unique yet effective way to experience the season. The devotionals are insightful and the reflection questions are excellent.

The Promise of Peace

Of course, Alabaster’s signature beautiful photography is on display. The snowscapes evoke an epic and magical feel. Paired alongside the devotionals, they are awe-inspiring. I was most moved to read that Christmas is a promise of peace. I needed this reminder in the midst of our war-torn world. Alabaster offers hope through the beautiful birth of our Savior. This devotional will cause your heart to sing with joy and wonder.

I have used several different advent devotionals throughout the years and was so excited to learn Alabaster was creating their own. It is so cute and beautiful! It is sleek and compact- perfect for on the go or on your coffee table. I am on the go a lot so for me it is easy to use and carry. It is divided up into four different weeks with some scripture already in it and additional scripture reading assignments. There is a devotional to read and then various reflection questions. There are beautiful winter wonderland pictures sprinkled throughout. The imagery reminds me of the importance of slowing down while spending time with the Lord. This is perfect for the avid bible reader and studier. My copy was complimentary through Alabaster’s Ambassador program.

As we're entering the holiday and soon to be Christmas Season, I find it can be overwhelming, disappointing, and frustrating for many of us at capricious intervals. Alabaster's Advent Devotional really is the perfect, easy, yet riveting and thought-provoking remedy that I didn't realize I needed until I opened its pages. The way in which the thoughts are laid out truly resonated with me and has reminded me of what truly waiting on the Lord means, what opening my soul to Beauty in the midst of trepidation, and complexity feels like and the peace it holds. It’s always my prayer to make room in life for the celebration of advent, but it can be especially trying in the hustle + bustle of the holiday season. I personally tend to do better when I have a resource to help me slow down and really focus on advent. This year, my resource is none other than the beautiful and inspiring Advent Devotional by Alabaster Co. Sectioned into weeks rather than days, this devotional is refreshing rather than demanding. This pint-sized Advent devotional focuses on four biblical Christmas songs through the songs of Mary, Zechariah, the angels, and Simeon. For those of us who love a good Christmas carol, but want to sing our way back to Christ, this is the devotional for you. Each day offers a brief reflection, a few questions to journal about, and further reading. The journaling questions are meaty and powerful. While each day's reflection is short, each reflection is full of grace, truth, and questions that will draw you closer to the heart of Christ.

My husband and I were looking for an Advent Devotional to use for our first Christmas together. I love this very simple, but very purposeful book for the Christmas season. Taking a little bit of time each day with our families to ponder the true meaning of Christmas makes the holiday season more rich and meaningful. This is another beautiful book from Alabaster that is packed with gods truths. I look forward to reading this book this year with my family. With beautiful wintry photos throughout, a solid study of New Testament passages, and a self-paced study format, expect to get a lot from these pages.
