I have loved Nebby’s other books and while I wasn’t sure what to expect from this post-apocalyptic romance story it was such a good surprise and I loved it.
This is a quick burn and jumps in two feet first. There is no slow build-up where we meet the characters separately and then they meet. Nope they meet in a heated moment where someone’s injured, guns are drawn, and threats made.
Why choose between 5 strangers when they all want you and the apocalypse doesn’t offer up a lot of choices. Maybe she’s greedy but Bailey certainly deserves some happiness.
Bailey hasn’t had it easy since the apocalypse. She lost her parents and was responsible for her infant brother and to keep him safe she was subject to a living nightmare. But she was tougher than anyone saw, and she was smart. Making a plan to get her and her brother Matty to safety and a new life.
This might not be the deepest of stories but it was a great escape and kept me interested the whole way through.
The guys helping Bailey heel and getting past her walls is a classic story but Nebby gives it something a little different with the quick burn.
My one thing that had my asking questions was that Bailey believes the apocalypse brought out the worst in people and has her defences up all the time even with people she’s know a while. Somehow these five men, who could easily overpower her and take everything she has come into her life and she lets her walls down rather quickly. Even her brother Matty, knowing everything she’s been through leaves her to these men.
It seems a little strange when taking in Bailey’s back story and believes about the world now, but if you can look past that and just let the story take you away you’ll enjoy it as much as I did.

Bailey’s nightmare wakes her up again and what she thinks is her brother sneaking in again turns out out be something that could be very dangerous for her and Matty.
Five men are in her kitchen one badly injured and hoping for her help. Matty knows she’s the best person to help them and he’s hoping that they’ll be good for her.
Bailey warns the men not to step out of line and Matty tells them what she’s been through and the five of them set out to win Bailey and show her that there are things worth wanting still in the apocalypse and that all her rules might not be the ones to live by.
‘1. Love is a weakness, and it makes you do some really dumb shit. 2. Nothing is freely given. Every kindness comes with a price, and you better make sure you can pay it. 3. Children don’t belong here. 4. Promises have no meaning.’
Boone, Caleb, Ethan, Pike, and Gray have been together from the beginning of the apocalypse too and before in fact. They aren’t real brothers but that’s how they see themselves. They are a family, and they are there for each other through the good and the bad. They weren’t looking for Bailey and she is everything they could want and more.
“You are the most spectacular and amazing person we have ever met,” Caleb said. “Every time I think I see you, think I’ve got you figured out, the curtain gets pulled back a little further, and I find out again just how fucking strong you are.”
For Bailey they pull the covers from her eyes and let her see the world anew and there is more to life than just surviving.
‘These men made my day brighter just by being a part of it.’
Despite surviving some of the worst life has to throw at you Bailey’s not going to get her happily ever after easily. With five men who adore her and her brother grown and happy himself she should be on the way there, instead she’s going to face evil again and the five men who love her might not be enough to save her.
‘Our family might be a little broken now, but we would be ok. I was going to make sure of it.’
Happy Reading.
