What happens when you're pulled into an alternate version of your life— again? Cassidy Marchand thought the alternate reality thing was done. Of course, it's a little unsatisfying not to know exactly what sent her sliding through dimensions, but she's glad to be alive. Surviving a serial killer tended to give perspective. But then the father who abandoned her as a child and the mother who died when she was eight walk into her hospital room, and she realizes she must be in the wrong universe. Again. Now she's navigating this new family dynamic while dealing with the case against her would-be killer and investigating just what the hell was happening to her. But things get complicated fast as her search lands her in danger, her childhood dream falls apart, and her past catches up with her. Cassidy has to decide if she's going to do what she's good at and run from it all or finally stand up and take charge of her life.

A great sequel to the first book!! The alternate reality stuff gets even more twisty and exciting. Couldn't stop turning pages!! Loved the ending and cliffhanger to get you ready for the final book
I mean. What can I say? Put this series down as one of my favorite of all time. Timeline jumping to parallel universes? A slooowwwwburn romance with an emotionally in-tune and intelligent detective? A protagonist who is the most stubborn, trying-to-fight-her-shame/trauma/anxiety character I think I’ve ever met?
I almost don’t want to say that I know author @authortraceybarski personally in case y’all think I’m saying this because I know her. Barski’s storytelling is true, raw, and exciting to read. I cannot wait for book number three.
Another smash by Tracey Barski. However, if there isn’t a book 3 coming soon then I basically feel like she left us all on read. I have so many questions and need answers. I also wouldn’t hate a HEA ending where Cassidy and Drew have little timeline hoping babies and she has to find which dimension baby crawled off to now.
This book was a spectacular sequel to the first book, The Alternate End of Cassidy Marchand. Everyone, go buy and read this series! Incredible character development, keep-you-on-the-edge-of-your-seat excitement, high stakes, and powerful emotional roller-coasters with the characters' interactions. Highly recommend. I can't wait for the third and final book of this amazing series.
Drew is perfect for Cassidy. So much to love about this book and the writing style. Cassidy's inner thoughts are well fleshed out and she develops well. I love the lessons and themes Tracey brings out by putting her characters through these parallel universe jumps. So much to glean here about being thankful for what you have, making the best of what one is handed in life, and having sympathy for others and their unique experiences we don't yet understand.
Its speculative and sci-fi without any heavy jargon or technical details. The twists and turns give plenty of little "Ah-hah!" moments along the way. And so believable... making me wonder if parallel universe jumping is a real thing. The How and Why around Cassidy’s jumps through alternate universes is the central mystery here, as she finds herself in conflict with the family she never had. The new revelations are once again, perfectly drip fed along the way.
Cassidy is on the way to healing and discovering herself in this story. The family tension was well portrayed, and of course, Officer Seward is there through it all, the steady rock, the guiding hand, a true anchor.
Tracey does a tremendous job of portraying the alternate versions of familiar characters. It generates empathy for people when we see them in their worst moments, if we can only realize that given other circumstances in another timeline, they could've turned out very differently. The same choice could have multiple outcomes, none of them in the chooser's control.
This story didn’t give me the sweats and chills that the first did, because the climax wasn’t as graphic and bloody. Even though it contained an intense shootout. In fact, it contained my favorite— one character nursing the other's wounds. 😍so it gave me warm fuzzies instead. This story has a great balance of steam and romance. Need I say more?
The romance between Drew and Cassidy only developed the story more… integral to the themes and message of it all. Completely inseparable. Can we just admit that Drew is one perfect book boyfriend? I'd almost like to see him have a few more flaws... but he's adorable and hot, and I like him that way.
So stoked for Tracey to complete the third and final book because I want it in my hands right now.
For my content concerned folks: even though this story utilizes fade to black, there is a little steam around those moments. It contains a few swears also. Ex. An angry father of a victim hurls a phrase at the defendant in the courtroom.
A great follow up to The Alternate End of Cassidy Marchand! Couldn't put it down!
If you haven't read book 1, stop now!!
As we know from the end of book 1 Cassidy is transported back to the universe she belongs in...only the parents who haven't been in her life for 20 yrs are visiting her in the hospital...and her mom is ALIVE. As she tried to acclimate to this strange development she begins to realize that she's in the right timeline, but her family isn't. Other strange things surrounding "universe jumping" begin popping up but the how and why are still unclear and looking to uncover answers has proven to be dangerous. On top of this she is having to go through the struggle of surviving an attempted murder and piece together her heart as she's thrown back into loneliness. And of course, other Drew is there. The first Drew she met, and they both find themselves drawn to each other. Cassidy and Drew ultimately team up to face it all ❤️
In book 1 we got to see Cassidy work through issues she's carried since childhood. We get to see that again but a different way and it's just as much of a struggle. Cassidy's growth is lovely to read and so relatable. Lots happens in this book—i felt like there were 5 plot points happening at once but the pacing wasn't too quick. It all helped to make Cassidy's frame of mind and decisions make sense from a lense of being overwhelmed, scared and feeling helpless. Then there's Drew 😍 who she finally connects with and they became the power couple of my dreams ❤️ you can grab it in amazon and KU as well!
Things I loved: ✨ Alternate universe ✨ Romance (closed door scenes but delicious ❤️) ✨ Relatable struggles ✨ Different/new characters that were distinct (even though we spent all of book 1 w/Drew, original Drew is different and it's distinct and delicious)
I rated it 5 ⭐ .5 🌶️

Let me just say how much I loved this book right off the bat. Book one ended and my mouth dropped so, naturally, I HAD TO KNOW RIGHT NOW what in the world was going to happen next.
The premise of this series is so fresh and original. I mean, who doesn’t love a mystery, with plenty of threads, romance, and a jump between realities?
Tracey’s writing is sharp and expressive and it makes you feel everything that’s happening and not just a story you’re being told. I love how she navigated the complicated relationships in this book. Life is messy and then there’s Cassidy’s life. She has had one hell of a time and I deeply enjoyed the depth of her character and result of her realities.
I highly recommend this series! Definitely read book one first and then immerse yourself in the in book two, because it will surely suck you in!
More alternate reality shifts, rekindled passion, and family that’s in the wrong place at the right time? This sequel hit the ground running and blew my expectations out of the water. Some questions were answered, while new questions were formed. The twists and turns kept me pushing forward, eager to find out what was going to happen next… and when the other shoe might drop. By the last page, I was screaming. I will be jumping into the third book ASAP, because I need to know how everything will come to an end!
I absolutely loved the first book and all its mysteries, and I loved this one just as much. Many of the mysteries raised in book one where answered here, while diving deeper into other and new mysteries. I can't wait for the next book to see who returns and how Cassidy is relationships develop.
Book 2 of the series and loving it! I love the bit of romance and the crazy amount of resilience this main character has trying to deal with life in too many different ways! Can't wait to read book 3.
