I’ve got a bit of a confession to make—I’ve been in the world of BB for a few months now, and I still haven’t found the true protagonist. There isn’t a ton of time to lose either, not when we only have three years to prepare to defeat Rasulfi and save the world. Don’t worry though, I’ve got a I’m gonna train Radd and his party of rookies up so they can take care of it all for me! Step one was to have them subjugate their first dungeon, but now it’s time for them to conquer something bigger—Freelea’s coliseum. With the tournament for the title of strongest fighter only a month away, I’ll have to use my game knowledge to the fullest to prepare them for battle! I’ll take advantage of my Analyze skill to check out people’s stats, use items to seize the upper hand against enemies, and even utilize dungeon traps to create the perfect conditions for grinding! But even so, will I really be able to make the kids strong enough to defeat Nirva, the current champion of the coliseum?

There was a ton of exposition in this novel to the point it was tedious to read at times.

I would have enjoyed more action and the plot was very meandering as well.

I struggled between rating this as two or three stars, but I did enjoy this despite the issues with the writing and I'm hoping at some point things smooth out story wise and the writing flows better.

Overall, I still recommend this one.

Rex still hasn't located the real protagonist for the game he's stuck in, but that's no excuse. He's still determined to raise Radd and his party to be strong enough to survive the end game, which means it's time to hit up the coliseum.

Once again, this is really almost two stories in one. On the one hand, Rex explains (in exhaustive detail) various things about the game and its mechanics---which mostly but don't entirely transfer to the life he's now living. All of that information, though, does underline why Rex is so hard on himself: he only has an edge in fighting now, early on, and Radd is quickly closing that gap.

On the other side we have Radd and his party, who see Rex as this powerful mentor who somehow knows all the secrets (yet still tends to fail in embarrassing ways every once in a while). Radd's misunderstandings of some of the tasks Rex sets him to can be amusing.

The ultimate Coliseum fight also leads to some amusing misunderstandings . . .

Overall, if you liked the first book this is more of the same. It's not bad for a quick read, but it's so focused on what the game used to be that the mechanics discussions often impede the real story being told now. I rate this book Recommended.
