John Bunyan, a Christian writer and preacher, was born at Harrowden (one mile south-east of Bedford), in the Parish of Elstow, England. He wrote The Pilgrim's Progress, arguably the most famous published Christian allegory. In the Church of England he is remembered with a Lesser Festival on 30 August.

I read this book in a day it was so good. I read the modernized version which I recommend as it was easy to understand. It was so good and I love the characters and how well this story was depicted. There’s so much biblical truth and truth that you’ve probably experienced if you’re walking with open eyes. Must read!

Happy I read it! A definite classic for a reason. The prototype for all Christian literature to follow - John Bunyan’s masterpiece has had a profound influence on the best of Christian thinkers and writers (C.S. Lewis, I’m looking at you). I can greatly appreciate Pilgrim’s Progress for this very reason - its influence in modern culture is significant. However, I can also admit, with no qualms, that it was a slog for me to get through. Perhaps if I approached it more as a study of metaphor and symbolism, rather than a work of literature and storytelling, I would have been more successful.
