Power comes with a price.

For Lahnos and Leona, the price is personal. To avoid suspicion, they keep their secrets hidden from the people of the Serpent Isle; but the longer the truth remains unknown, the worse it will be when it is revealed.

Recovering after her ordeal, Lyla recovers more of her past. Burdened with uncertainty, she is determined to discover her real identity, no matter who she hurts in the process.

On the other side of Athumia, Tell Hoard, the foremost seat of knowledge and learning in the Dragon Dominion, gets on with another day, unaware that the fates are conspiring to bring it into collision with the troubles of the world…

About Me

I love deserts, which is too bad as I live in Scotland, but the mountains, glens and lochs more than make up for it. My other love is Greek Tragedy, especially Euripides, and I also read history, science, fantasy, and pretty much anything about the Beatles…

I love everything about Blood Burden, the latest book in the Dominion series. Five stars hardly seem enough to do this book justice. From the very first page I was fully involved in the story. I found it really difficult to put the book down when the outside world demanded it of me. I read the book twice in a short period of time and thoroughly enjoyed it the second time as much as I did the first.

Some of our favorite characters venture farther out into the world of Athumia and we are introduced to more interesting characters who take us in a direction that we, as readers (or, at least, I as a reader) didn't expect. No spoilers here.

The story keeps getting better and better. I find myself saying this over and over but this is my favorite book in the Dominion series - so far. That's because, with each new book in the series, Christopher Mitchell keeps upping his game: his imagination, his story telling, his world building, his realistic yet lovable characters, his ability to draw the reader into the story and feel a part of it AND believe that all of it is possible. This book is a must read in the continuing Mageland universe books.

Well done, Mr. Mitchell, well done indeed!

Christopher Mitchell has worked his magic again! I absolutely flew through this book, desperate to know "what next" but also not wanting it to end. If you are here then you have probably already read the previous installments - if not, then go do that immediately! - and will not be disappointed with the new adventures, twists and turns that are provided here. I don't want to give any spoilers, so will just say that I absolutely recommend this for all readers who love their fantasy epic, explosive and addictive! Bravo Mr Mitchell, bravo.

If you have found your way here without reading any other books by this author then it may help to know that - before finding Christopher Mitchell - my favourite fantasy authors are Gemmel, Feist and Hobb. I've read well over 500 fantasy novels and never found another world builder, character creator that brings me as much happy as Mr M does!

Blood Burden: An Epic Fantasy Adventure (The Magelands Dominion Book 4), my twenty-fourth read from prolific author Christopher Mitchell, 446-pages of epic fantasy. When I want to read epic fantasy I first look for author Christopher Mitchell. I look forward to reading more from this author, in fact Kin Strife: An Epic Fantasy Adventure (The Magelands Dominion Book 5) is already on my TBR list and it won't be published until January of next year. “I received a free Kindle copy of this book and am voluntarily leaving a review." The gifting of this book did not affect my opinion of it. (RIP Marley January 20, 2014 - July 24, 2018).

Another great series that keeps me wanting

I had read all of the Magelands series awhile ago and loved them profusely so I went looking for more of Mr Mitchell's books and I didn't really thing them connected until book 2. When I found out who the demon witch was, I couldn't putter books down. Mr Mitchell always has colorful and intriguing characters that I have a love/hate relationship with but I wouldn't want it any other way. I look forward to the last book coming in Jan 2024.

Oh my goodness what a wonderful book. I read it in 2 days as i couldn't put it down. The story line is entrancing with so much happening yet very realistic. Lyla is evolving and starting to remember, Arrosa is such a stoic person, Lahnos learns more about himself and we are introduced to more amazing characters who pull the story together. A must read!

This continuation just makes me yearn for the next installment! We take off with Lyla finally understanding what Leona and Lainos have been trying to help her with all along. It is nice to see her development closer to realizing her true reality! Quadrants are back in the mix and I am not dropping spoilers but I know what I wish would happen!! Highly recommended!!

Really, really good!

I can’t remember the last time a gave a 5-star this early in a series, but, this one, Mr Mitchell is truly perfection. Thanks and I can’t wait to continue. Also, you prove time and again that books do not need vulgarity, graphic sex, etc. to be enjoyable and entertaining. Thanks again!

good

I’m invested after reading all of the previous books and series. The word Epic is not hyperbole in this instance, this collection of writing truly is. Can’t wait for the next book.

Another fantastic read from Chris, some fantastic new characters and locations in this book, Arossa comes into her own and Elbannon is a great addition to the characters amongst others. Don’t want to spoil anything but if you love the Magelands this won’t disappoint.
