Since Evelyn’s mother died, she’s been the glue holding her family together—more like the only person willing to stand her father’s crappy behavior until Will Denver, an old friend from before, shows up, hotter and richer. The first time she reconnects with the stunning cowboy, he’s protecting her from her abusive father. Their attraction to each other can only grow. But to what extent? Evelyn has an annoying commitment to preserving her family, even though it’s been torn apart. Plus, it’s not easy falling in love when there’s a careless father at the corner, who dabbles in deals with criminal gangs without so much as a second thought. When Evelyn gets dragged into a scuffle with one of the gangs, Will must make his choice. Will she still choose family over him or not?
Evelyn If my life were a book, it’d probably be the ‘worst seller’ in history. When my mother died, taking care of the family became my responsibility. But no one told me how much of a piece of work my father was, and slowly I got stuck between his abuse and his commitment to holding together a crumbling family. My sisters leave, making my life that much more of a mess. But it all changes when I see Will Denver. He’s returned to town, and he’s come back even hotter and richer. Best of all, I think he’s got an eye on me. But if my family doesn’t come in between us first, then the gang my father has mysterious dealings with might.
A short story about a girl who wants to keep her family together even though her father can care less about her. What I didn’t understand was what family was Evelyn trying to keep together? Her mother died and her sister’s left her deadbeat, terrible father. Evelyn drove me crazy. This was a very short book that read like a chapter. I’m sure the next book will read like “chapter 2”. I don’t like books like that, that’s why I gave it only 3 stars. I listened to the audio version of this book and the narrator was good, but not great. I listen to a lot of audio books and there are amazing narrators that captivate you and draw you into the story. This narrator was ok. Maybe because Evelyn’s character drove me crazy with her reasoning for staying with an abusive father. Not sure. If you are interested in reading “chapter” books with a storyline that will drag into the next few books, then this is the book for you. I might of liked it more if the book wasn’t so short.
This book seems like a prequel to more books. The characters are nice. The plot is interesting.
I was gifted an Audible version of this book from the author through Story Origin. The narrator doesn't sound American. She sounds Asian. She mispronounces several words. The inflection in her sentences sound asian. But despite all that, I really liked her presentation. She has a lot of voices and her feelings come through. 4 stars for her.
Honestly didn't make it far in this "clean" book before the mention of swells of bosom's and the storyline turned out to not be of interest to me. If all the sisters are gone why is she living with her dad 'holding the family together'? He took care of himself before she was born I guess I don't understand why he can't now.
