Abby Klein was born and raised in Los Angeles, California. She earned her teaching credentials at Dartmouth College, where she majored in psychology and education. She then went on to earn her master's degree in reading and language development at the Harvard Graduate School of Education.
Currently she teaches in the same public elementary school she attended as a child in the Los Angeles area. She has been a kindergarten and first-grade teacher there for more than fifteen years and is very involved in the school community, as both a teacher and a parent. Her two young children also attend the school where she teaches. In addition, she is a “teacher-leader” in her district, and over the years, she has presented many staff development workshops both at the district level and at her school site that centered on reading, writing, and literacy. She has been a presenter at national conferences as well.
In her first published series, Ready, Freddy!, Klein brings just the right amount of true-to-life humor and drama. She brings young readers a fresh voice, a great sense of humor, and a unique perspective on the trials and tribulations of first grader Freddy Thresher. Utterly authentic and drawn from real experience in the classroom, Abby Klein knows exactly what first graders are thinking.
She lives in Los Angeles, California, with her husband, two children, and three dogs. She thinks there's nothing better than a good book, and she loves reading aloud to children.
Ready, freddy;halloween fraidy-cat by abby kirin. Robbie, the fraidy-cat, and his bully are at the school and his other friend was hosting a Halloween party. Freddy was scared of the party with the masks and scary stuff. He went home and he got an invite and his sister was making fun of him because he was the biggest scaredy-cat. He went to the party and he played some games and went to the maze and then they heard a noise and then him and his bully went downstairs and they found a black cat. The bully was scared and they went upstairs and said they found out what the noise was and they showed the black cat. It was his friend’s kitty. The book shows adversity that he was having difficulties with his buly and he had to fix his problem of being scared to go to the party. It will be 4 stars because it was fun to see him overcome his fears. I like how he won the apples even though his bully had the biggest mouth ever. I would recommend it to people who likes Halloween.

Sharks are cool. I am 22 years old and I do YouTube for fun, I wanted to get out of my comfort zone months ago as well challenge my ability to read, I hated reading when I was younger because I wasn't good at it.. my reading was a level of third grade and I wanted to test that.. I read this book for 35 minutes, I set a 1 hour alarm and had 25 minutes left, if your kids are scared of Halloween I suggest this book. If your in a reading slump or just want a VERY easy read after a hard book I recommend this book.. no matter your age I think you should shoot your shot 95 year olds read kid books, 10 year olds read very hard but age appropriate books
My son absolutely loves these books. He is starting 1st grade this year. I also love the cute characters and friendships. My only concern is there is a lot of name calling. I try to skip over those parts because I don't want my son to pick up on that and emulate it.
Ehh.. Freddy's sister is MEAN. It's difficult to read a book to your child when there's at least one character in it that is just MEAN and RUDE. I mean it's his SISTER! Be nice!
There is a bully in the book also, who actually comes around at the end...
I don't know...just didn't like the rudeness and teasing of the sister but the bully seemed forgivable enough. I mean come on sister, WHO CARES if your brother wears the same themed costumed every year-a shark. Quite frankly I thought that was AWESOME!
Adrian and I just finished reading this last night, and we really enjoyed it. Halloween Fraidy-Cat has a great moral ending, and teaches children how to deal with a classroom bully in the midst of it's Halloween plotline. Adrian also loved the information facts and games at the end of the book, those hooked her.
This chapter book is a funny book about trick or treating. It also talks about making new friends and including them in everything and being kind. This is a good story to read to second graders around halloween time. It shows friendship, trick or treating, and even has funny parts. The illustrations are great. There is a secret word in each picture and the students enjoy finding it.
Freddy is invited to a Halloween party, but he is afraid to go. Of course everything turns out all right in the end!
The story was the perfect level as a read-aloud for my five-year-old, although some of the pictures were too scary for that age, so I didn't show them to him.
Cute book. I read this to my boys and they were glued to every page. Great read for young kiddos who are afraid of scary Halloween masks. Also a great lesson about bravery. I will definitely be reading more in this series!
We got this book on audio in a Wendy's Kids Meal. All 3 of my kids LOVE listening to it in the car. It's a cute story, and the guy who reads it does a great job!
Freddy loves sharks but is scared of everything so he decides to become his shark costume to get over his fear and solve a mystery. One of my birthday books! So cute!
A so-so story about a boy that is afraid of anything related to Halloween. He learns to be brave and conquer his fears. The story had very cardboard like characters.
