From atoms and molecules to the laws of motion and thermodynamics, this amazing course will introduce your child to the properties of matter and the basic building blocks of life. Your family will bond over this exploration of God s design for the universe as you investigate states of matter, energy in its many forms, magnetism, and simple machines. Dynamic projects for this course include mixing materials to make a bouncy ball and creating a smoke bomb. Your child will also build a solar oven, a working periscope, and a miniature motor!

This has been my least favorite of the Young Explorer series by Jeannie Fulbright. Now granted, Chemistry and Physics are NOT my jam, so that plays a part in it. The book was bright and colorful, and I did learn some things. We used it this year for a very advanced 6th grader who loves chem and physics, and I would say that it was a lot of information. A LOT. Personally, I see this as an 8th grade type book. I know lots of rigorous homeschoolers would disagree, but it was very technical. There were plenty of "Try This" activities, which I thought would be nice, but some were very simple, while others were more complex and I felt need extra visual instructions. I am a very visual person so I would have appreciated better instructions to some of the "Try This" experiments. We skipped a lot of them. Personally, I would go with the Astronomy or any of the animal books over this one!!
I loved 12/14 chapters of this book. Great experiments, engaging text, wise perspectives.
The last two chapters on electricity were a bummer. None of the experiments worked and this aspect of science is not my thing so I don't know how to tweak the experiments to make them work. We turned science over to Dad for the rest of the year.
