First and foremost, a large thank you to BookSirens and Manning Wolfe for providing me with a copy of this publication, which allows me to provide you with an unbiased review.
Having recently discovered the work of Manning Wolfe, I gladly accepted this ARC, the second novel in her Proxy Lawyer series. Wolfe develops yet another great story in this legal thriller, with strong courtroom elements to keep the reader front and centre throughout the action. Quinton Bell has been laying low, but trying to create a strong new practice in the Houston legal community. He is asked to serve as the guardian and represent a young girl whose mother died in a horrible car wreck, while also juggling the case of a star athlete who was in the wrong place at the wrong time. Trying to work through both cases, Quinton is too busy in court to realise that those he fled in New York may have a means of finding him and are ready to leave him for dead to settle a debt. Wolfe delves deeply and pulls the reader in to the middle of this great legal thriller that has me begging for more.
Quinton Bell has enjoyed setting up shop in Houston and leaving his former life—as Byron Douglas— behind him. He’s working on building his clientele and making a decent name for himself, while always trying to stay one step ahead of those who could reveal his truth. When he is called in to serve as guardian and represent young Lily Collins, whose mother was killed in an eighteen wheeler massive casualty accident, Bell is nervous. He is not familiar with tort law, but the local judge is asking as a favour and knows that this will not fall into the quagmire of many other class-action lawsuits.
Soon, the trucking company feels the heat and presents a case that Lily’s mother was at least partially to blame, which could nullify the settlement and lead to a handful of headaches. As Quinton tries to put and end to the madness, someone has been trying to shake him. Lurking in the shadows, Quinton is in their sights and is reporting to a higher-up. Could the Irish Mafia have found him?
While working hard to help Lily, Quinton is asked a second favour, to help a collage athlete who has found himself in some hot water. The case will take up valuable time and leave Quinton vulnerable when he should be focusing on his guardian work. The courtroom is where Quinton Bell does his magic, but someone might make their strike to neutralise him before he can find victory. Manning Wolfe dazzles once more in this series.
I always enjoy a good piece of thriller writing and find that Manning Wolfe knows how to create a great story. Her narrative flows with ease both in the courtroom and while defending this clients elsewhere. The story gains momentum as the courtroom battle heats up, culminating in the truth and a few white lies making things even more interesting. With great characters and a solid foundation, this has become a great series. With short chapters that push things along and a cliffhanger at the end, the reader will be rushing to find out what’s next for Quinton Bell!
Plot lines in the book provide a great direction for the narrative and flavour things effectively for the journey throughout this book. Using great twists and surprises along the way, Wolfe keeps the courtroom action front and centre, where nothing is entirely predictable. Strong storytelling and some cliffhanger moments leave the reader wondering, just what Manning Wolfe wants as they hunger for another book!
Kudos, Madam Wolfe, for a great addition to this series.

I won this Title in a Goodreads Giveaway. This was a well written book. Full of emotional Rollercoaster ride. The main Character is not who he portrays to be. He has assumed his best friends identity and taken over his friends life after he was murdered. The strange thing is he's a criminal lawyer. In more ways than just the criminals he represents. Someone from his past knows the truth and is threatening him, stalking him and keeps destroying his home. Meanwhile the lawyer, Quinton/Bryan; is representing a little girl who was in a pile-up on the Interstate and watched her mother die and she lost her leg in the accident. He's trying to win her some money for the care she'll need for most of her life. Trying to win a case with a dirty judge making deals with the opposing counselor is not helping his life right now. Nor his house burning from his blackmailer. How does he get it straightened out, or does he? The main character, you don't know whether to dislike him, or to root for him. Read it and see what you think. I recommend this book.

A very good legal drama !
Action packed and kept going at a steady pace. I also really liked Quinton. He was a good lawyer and man. Lilly tugged at my heart. Her story was heartbreaking but she was a strong little girl. Even if you don't like legal thrillers, you will love this one.

Hunted by Proxy by Manning Wolfe is the second book in the Proxy Legal Thriller featuring Quenton Bell. Quenton is a lawyer who had to flee, change his name as a result of being wanted by the Tua Dannon, the Irish mob.
There is a freak accident and Quenton is asked by his friend a judge to take the civil case. The case is a result of an accident on a busy holiday. An 18-wheeler causes a chain of accidents with up to 150 vehicles. The death toll is in the hundreds and eight dead.
One of the deceased is a young single mother, Charlotte Collins, a child of 7 years old. Lily has a lot of trauma and pain as she had to have her leg amputated as a result of the accident.
So Quenton has to prove that Charlotte did not cause the accident as the prosecutors would have the jury believe. He also takes on the guardianship of Lily. While trying to question as many of the people involved in the unfortunate accident. At the same time trying to stay one step ahead of the mob.
This book is character driven, past paced and a surprise ending. I have enjoyed both of the books in this series and hope to read more by this author.
If you like legal thrillers or even if you don't, give this series a chance. I am sure you will like it just as I did.

Hunted by Proxy is book 2 in the Proxy Legal Thriller Series by Manning Wolfe. This series is beyond exciting and thrilling. The author took the time to lay out the accident in Chapter 1 that perfectly told me who everyone was and exactly what happened in the accident. I thought that taking a chapter to tell the beginning of the story helped make the characters more real and gave me an emotional connection to Lily. Woven into the story is Quinton's lie. This book is exceptionally thrilling. I can't wait to read Book 3, Alive by Proxy. I received an arc for free and am leaving my review voluntarily.

Hunted By Proxy is a fabulous and exciting addition to the Proxy Legal Thriller Series by Manning Wolfe! In many ways I think it’s even better than the series opener, Dead By Proxy. But I’ll get to that.
This story continues following the plight of Houston attorney Quinton Bell. Hiding a secret that could easily end life as he knows it if revealed, Quinton continues to hide in the open and earn a living as a defense trial lawyer, something that he’s not only very good at, but also his passion. Quinton takes on the case of a little girl and her mother’s estate after the mother is killed in a multi-car accident on a Houston expressway, caused by an eighteen-wheeler. He definitely has the sympathy vote going into court, but is the law on his side. And who makes that law?
Before I compare this book to its predecessor, let me first say that this story completely stands on its own. You do not have to read the first book to fully enjoy this story - but I highly recommend it. Here’s why. A good chunk of the first book is dedicated to setting up the overarching plot for the series. In this story, that plot—the secret— is already established, so more time can be spent on a trial that is fiendishly delightful! Further, there is someone out there who knows Quinton’s secret, but he doesn’t know who it is. That person wants Quinton to suffer—which he does. The first book gives a more detailed explanation of how the "secret" came to be.
The identity of the other person knowing the secret is one of the big reveals during the climax. (As for me, I didn’t see it coming at all!) But there are also several other good reveals through the latter part of the story.
Just like the first book, author Manning Wolfe does a great job of “showing” rather than “telling.” Most of what the reader needs to know is acquired from dialogue and action. However, the entire backstory must be told by the narrator because…. Any guesses? Because it’s a secret! Quinton’s not going to tell anyone—including the reader—so that job is left to the narrator. The third-person narrator does a good job of summarizing the backstory, giving the reader everything needed to enjoy the story, but reading the first book first will give the reader a leg up into some of the characters—namely Quinton.
I think the description in this story is even better than the first one. For example, when trying to describe Quinton’s feeling that someone was constantly following and watching him, the author wrote, “…it was always in the back of his mind like a whisper that he couldn’t quite hear, nor could he ignore." Further, the author described the dress of the woman Quinton was with at a formal event like this: “…in a red Marchesa floral embroidered off-the-shoulder tulle gown.”
Another thing I think is better than the first book is the pacing. It never stalled or slowed down, and the lead up to the climax never let up once it started.
I am already looking forward to the next book!

He's set up his new practice in Houston and is embracing his new persona. However, someone from his past is keen on letting him know that they know who he is. He's riddled with flashbacks and now he has to look over his shoulder to protect his identity and the life he has built. How far will this mystery pursuer go and why are they set on Quintin?
The story starts strong with different perspectives of victims involved in a highway crash. Then we are taken to Quintin's new office and a new case that involves the family of a victim of the crash. He dives into the case and we get to see Quintin, the lawyer, at work in the courtroom as he works on what he thought would be an easy case. Wolfe takes you on twists and turns that involve greed, secrets, car crashes, and death. This steady-paced quick read will have you questioning your guess on who is hiding what. The book has a well-developed plot and climax moments that keep the attention of the reader. Wolfe is a whiz at the keyboard with the way she writes. Each page is clear, concise, and descriptive, which makes reading it smooth.
I've lived in Houston for the past ten years and am familiar with that specific strip of I-10 that Wolfe references in her text. Her writing style helps you paint a picture in your head of the setting. As a Houstonian, I was able to reference and relate to every piece of this book. It felt like I was experiencing the story unfolding in front of her as if I was right there with the characters.
This book can be read as a standalone or in conjunction with book 1 in the series. However, I recommend reading the first book so you can get a bit more of a foundation before diving into book two. Manning Wolfe will have you wanting more! I highly recommend this thrilling mystery to anyone.

In the first pages of Hunted by Proxy, I could literally hear the screeching of the wheels and metal crashing into metal. Then a major death came. When you have your own experience with car crashes it makes this superb story real from the lawyers to the negotiations with the insurance companies to the pain of loss.
Hunted by Proxy follows Dead by Proxy by Manning Wolfe. She continues her thriller series with perfection.
This second book in this series is another quick read and does not miss a beat. The author takes readers into the world of car crashes and what ensues when everyone wants a piece of the insurance pie. Thankfully, Manning created her main character with a ton of empathy and he wants to do right. In fantabulous storytelling perfection that I did not see coming was who was stalking Quinton and the betrayal of a new lover in his life.
Often, I can make a pretty good guess at the probable who is doing what in a story, even with an estimated guess, but in Manning’s story, she weaves the elements and characters so brilliantly that I was left speechless at the end. I did not even come up with a guess because the story enveloped me with each page swipe. This story is solid and unputdownable.
If you love thriller stories where the legal system is the core of the story, then I highly recommend Hunted By Proxy. If you love thriller books period, then this series is a must-read. I love it when books surprise me. Hunted by Proxy left me wanting more of Manning’s well-crafted writing and storytelling.

Attorney Quinton Bell is still on the run in this follow-up to Dead by Proxy. He remains in Houston after leaving New York and Reno.
This story of a lawyer on the lam starts with a bang and never eases up, along with many unpredictable twists! Secrets are revealed slowly throughout the book until the doozy of an ending! (Once again, especially the last page.)
I appreciated the detailed explanation of a multi-car collision in chapter one. The perfect lead-in introducing all the main characters proceeded to the investigation, trial, and final verdict. A very logical sequence of events.
Much trickery is involved with Quinton and Dart. “Chaos is just part of the package!” I also liked the vulnerable 8yo accident victim Lily. The antagonists were deliciously evil characters who were fun to read about. It was also fun to guess their next moves. I was surprised by the identity of The Boss!
I enjoyed Books 1 and 2 in this series about lies, deceit, reinvention, and betrayal. Each book can be read as a standalone but pamper yourself and read both! I am looking forward to reading Book #3! Highly recommend both!

I started reading this planning to read half and the rest tomorrow. Well , that didn't happen. I finished it before I knew it! And now I'm hungry for more. I was yelling, crying, cursing, and throwing things intermittently as I read this. I wanted to shake some people 'til their teeth rattled. The lies, betrayals , conspiracies, and collusion were abundant . I had so much empathy for Quinton. He can't catch a break. They are literally coming out of the woodwork to make life miserable and to destroy him. He can't turn his back, because a new predator pops up to take the place of the last one vanquished ! I think he's essentially a good man (not perfect) with integrity. Look at all the money, etc. that he's donated!!!! His love life is a cluster..

Hunted By Proxy continues the legal adventures of Quinton, whose life was turned upside down in Dead By Proxy. Both books do need to be read in this series to understand this book's events.
I loved the new twists and the variety of cases that Q is taking on now. It opens new venues for characters and angles. I don't read tons of legal thrillers, but this one is a good time and it makes me want to read others.
I like the characters, I like Quinton's struggles, and I like how interlaced everything becomes by the end of the story. Manning Wolfe has done another good job and I can't wait for book three!

Hunted by Proxy is the 2nd installment in this series and just as fast-paced and thrilling as the first.
If you like legal thrillers and courtroom drama this is for you. The storyline for this one was hard to read (child hurt) but the author did a great job in handling that part of it. I teared up a few times too which is rare in a thriller.
Love Quinton too and man oh man does chaos seem to just surround him. I can't wait for the next instalment.

Like the first in the series, this novel is a solid entry into the lawyer suspense genre. This continues where the first book leaves off, with Quinton, a/k/a Byron, an attorney who has fled to Houston from New York City in order to save his own life, assuming the identity of a man who has died, the son of a local judge to whom he grows so close that the judge considers him his son. That was actually the part that bothered me about the book most.
Quinton Bell is a morally gray character, which is a good thing. The best characters are morally gray and he is full of complexities and depth. He assumes the identity of a man to save his own hide, even to the extent of fooling the man's father at first. He has to lie to everyone around him in order to preserve this facade. On the other hand, he is not entirely comfortable with this. He also shows compassion and concern for one of his clients, a young girl who was critically injured and mother killed in an accident involving an 18 wheeler. It is in connection with this case that he shows his own brand of moral compass. One cares for Quinton, even if he does not always do the right thing. He mostly does, within the confines of the new world he has created for himself.
The Judge, on the other hand, bothers me because he was willing to throw away his son's memory in order to help Quinton, who is the son he wanted. He was willing to lie along with Quinton, who, at least had to do so in order to save his life. These deceptions seemed less acceptable with the Judge, perhaps because the character had a little less depth, so it was harder to understand why he did what he did.
The novel started out with action right away, the accident involving the 18 wheeler which provided Quinton with his client. Somewhere after this, the novel lost a little bit of steam for me, but then picked up later at the halfway mark. The plot is compelling and the ending is such that the reader absolutely knows there will be a third book.
Although this book can be read as a standalone, the reader would be better off reading the first because it gives insight into Quinton's predicament and his character. Although much can be gleaned from the second in the series, the first one adds more depth and understanding and was such a fun ride anyway. Four and a half stars rounded to five.
I look forward to the conclusion.

I loved the first in Manning Wolfe's Proxy Legal Thriller series, Dead by Proxy. I thought she'd have to go some to top it. Well, she's topped it.
Here we see our hero (antihero?) Quinton Bell (formerly known as Byron Douglas), looking like he might get his life in order after running for his life from the Tua Dannon and taking on the identity of his former friend, now deceased. Sure, he put one of the Irish mob's big guns in jail, and there's that nebulous threat at the end of the last book, that someone out there knows who he is. He's taking precautions. But he's got his own law office in Houston now, getting things set up, and things seem to be on the upswing.
And then he's tagged by a judge he knows to serve as the attorney for Lily Collins, a young girl whose mother Charlotte was killed in a multi-car pileup with an 18-wheeler on I-10. Bell's area of expertise is criminal defense, but he's moved by Lily's plight and takes the case. At every turn, though, the deck seems stacked against him. He isn't part of the class action suit, and it feels like the class lawyer and the defense are always one step ahead of him in every aspect of the case. Before he knows it, the class has settled, and he's left standing alone to fight for Lily's rights. It's a David and Goliath setup, one lone lawyer taking on the insurance defense legal machine to prove that Charlotte Collins didn't contribute to the accident that took her life and her daughter's leg.
Oh, and if that's not enough, someone is following Quinton. Harassing him. Quinton thought almost everyone who knew his secret was either out of commission or dead. Who is responsible for this continued threat looming over him? How far will they go to make him suffer?
The story here never slows down. There were no parts where I flipped through faster, wanting to get to the good parts. It's all good parts. No matter where Quinton goes, he's looking over his shoulder. You know he's thinking about running. Leaving it all behind. But, being the conscientious lawyer he is, he conducted himself with professionalism and put the best interests of his client first. He built the best case he could and moved forward, even realizing he's trying to play the game without knowing the rules someone else put into place.
Boy howdy, Manning Wolfe knows her stuff. She can write her way around a courtroom, and she tells a story that will have you holding your breath waiting to see how it all unravels. This story has it all: A gripping legal case with a sympathetic plaintiff. People on the take. Tension. Danger. Romance. Betrayal. And in Quinton Bell, Wolfe writes a character that I care about. Is he perfect? No. Has he done some shady crap? Yes. Is he basically a decent human being? I think so, and I want to see something break his way for once!
The big reveal had me picking my jaw up off the floor. As the shadowy Boss orchestrated Quinton's suffering, I had no idea who it could be. I was racking my brain along with Quinton to think of who knew his secret that was still in a position to do anything about it. I did NOT see it coming, and I love that!
So does Quinton get his happy ending here? Read the book and find out. (Hint: it's clearly set up for another book in the series, so you draw your own conclusions.) Hunted by Proxy is a well-written legal thriller that will suck you in and keep you guessing until the very end!

Hunted by Proxy by Manning Wolfe pulled me right back into Quinton Bell's world, and I was hooked from the very first chapter. If you're looking for a fast-paced legal thriller packed with twists, danger, and nonstop suspense, this one definitely delivers.
I loved how quickly the story ramps up. Quinton is trying to rebuild his life after everything he's survived, but a single cryptic message changes everything. From there, the tension rarely let up, and I found myself constantly wondering who could be trusted and who was pulling the strings behind the scenes.
One of my favorite parts was Quinton himself. He's intelligent, resourceful, and far from invincible, which makes the stakes feel even higher. Every decision mattered, and I genuinely felt the pressure as he raced to stay one step ahead of an enemy determined to expose or eliminate him.
The legal elements added authenticity without slowing the momentum, while the betrayals, shifting alliances, and unexpected twists kept me turning the pages. Although this is the second book in the Proxy Legal Thriller Series, it still offers plenty of suspense and action for thriller fans who enjoy high-stakes stories with memorable characters

Hunted By Proxy is the second book in Manning Wolfe's Proxy Legal series. On one level, I would say it still works well as a stand alone, as the author gives just enough info to keep the story going along. Unlike some books, she doesn't actually delve deeply into backstory - instead, she drops a few necessary facts and cleverly has the MC Quinton say "That's a story for another day."
However, I think having read the first book would give a fuller picture of who Quinton is, as he is a complicated, seemingly deeply flawed character (based on what information we get about him and his past). On some levels, I found him unlikable, but then he shows gentleness and kindness around the child he is representing in his lawsuit, and that endeared him to me.
This is a fast-paced and easy read. Wolfe really digs into the courtroom action and legal research, and you feel like you are in the midst of the legal process. The plot never slows and has a few twists I didn't see coming. The cast of characters was interesting, although sometimes the characters' descriptions felt unnecessarily detailed and distracted me from the story.

This second book in Manning Wolfe's Proxy series is an action-packed legal thriller with fantastic character development. Reading the previous book, Dead By Proxy, is definitely a benefit, but there's enough backstory for new readers to jump in without being lost.
Wolfe's style is crisp and no-nonsense which works well for her stories. Quinton Bell, her lead character, is a man who lives on the edge - the edge of sleep, the edge of the law, the edge of danger. He's also thoroughly engaging, and makes the reader want him to succeed (which is often challenging as he's not the luckiest person).
Author Wolfe has done a fine job of mixing the mundane (Texas freeway traffic) with murder, blackmail, arson, and well-written courtroom drama in a story that is essentially Bell's search for safety. It's a fast-paced read, with a plot that hums along nicely. You never feel like there's too much exposition, and the action is never over-done or confusing.
Overall, Hunted By Proxy is a satisfying read. Those who are just meeting Quinton Bell will likely be motivated to read the previous book, while newcomers and continuing readers alike will be left anticipating future stories.

Wolfe's style is crisp and no-nonsense which works well for her stories. Quinton Bell, her lead character, is a man who lives on the edge - the edge of sleep, the edge of the law, the edge of danger. He's also thoroughly engaging, and makes the reader want him to succeed (which is often challenging as he's not the luckiest person).
Author Wolfe has done a fine job of mixing the mundane (Texas freeway traffic) with murder, blackmail, arson, and well-written courtroom drama in a story that is essentially Bell's search for safety. It's a fast-paced read, with a plot that hums along nicely. You never feel like there's too much exposition, and the action is never over-done or confusing.
Overall, Hunted By Proxy is a satisfying read. Those who are just meeting Quinton Bell will likely be motivated to read the previous book, while newcomers and continuing readers alike will be left anticipating future stories.

This is a very interesting novel of legal procedure that revolves around the life of the lawyer more than courtroom activities. There is a lawsuit involved and Quinton 's commitment to an equitable outcome provides one plot thread. The other thread concerns present danger to Quinton because of past activities found in the first book in this series. The lawsuit provides enough material to enjoy the novel but to understand the other part of the plot, the first book should be read.
I like the emphasis Wolfe made on the human aspect of a lawyer desiring to serve the best interests of the client, especially when there are others just interested in the money they can earn. While there is a little courtroom drama, this is not a book for readers who like a heavy dose of courtroom scenes. Wolfe's writing style and emphasis lends itself to getting a good feel for the personal life of a lawyer. This novel is an engaging character study.
We are left with a hint of further adventure for Quinton. I am invested in his life so I will be looking for the next in the series.

The second book in Manning Wolfe's Proxy Legal Thriller Series, Hunted By Proxy, is the second in the series. I had no idea what to expect as I hadn't read book one. New readers get enough information to keep them engaged. I will read book one to learn why Quinton Bell ran.

This is a new to me author, but I love thrillers so I knew I wanted to give it a try as a reader. This is the second book in a new series.
This is the story of Bryon Douglas. Byron is a lawyer, but he is now dead by proxy due to his last legal case involving Killian Tyronne, a really bad guy. The first few chapters take us the readers through the trial of Killian Tyronne and Bryon who is still a lawyer at the time. Bryon is the defense lawyer in this case. Bryon comes across as a really nice lawyer who the readers will love. The legal explanations for the court case were very accurate which I liked. And I liked that Bryon has to work to earn his way into being wealthy and a lawyer, that is the only way you become wealthy in life. No one really hands you anything and I liked that message.

The book is gripping. I loved Quinton’s character more in this book. Quinton started his own firm but his past is still haunting him. His life was turned upside down in an attempt to save one of his client as his criminal defense attorney. Judge Sirus Bell’s death mystery still has some unanswered questions. While leaving behind his painful past, Quinton has adopted a new identity and he got two new cases but he still finds himself tangled in a game of cat and mouse. Someone from his past is threatening him. He is trying to move forward. He is deeply touched by Charlotte Collins and Lilly Collins case. I loved the insightful legal procedures in this book. The Author has shared deep account of legal procedures and Judge Bell’s past and present.
The characters were so realistic and the author’s thorough research on legal world has reflected in this book. There were some twists and turns. Mystery stayed till the end. Even the book ended on a mysterious note. Definitely love Author’s writing and can’t wait to read next book in this series.

This is book 2 in the series. I really enjoyed book 1 and this book, There is real life court situations that the reader can relate to. I really felt bad for Lily. Being in a car accident myself I felt for her. She lost her mother and life as she knew it. This would make a great television series, like Law & Order. The courtroom setting was real and I felt like I was there with them. "Quinton" is still not sure what the note from book 1 meant. However, he is determined to live his life and be a good lawyer, He even finds love. Even if it does not last. This is definitely a cat and mouse mystery. The chapters were short and made for a fast and fun read. There are so many back and forth moments in the plot that I was not prepared for the ending, and I was surprised. I can not wait to read book 3. If you like courtroom drama, legal misconduct, the bad guy losing, and a good mystery, then this is a great book for you! Who is following him? Who left the note? This series would also make a great movie trilogy. I am giving this book a 5/5. I was given a copy, however all opinions are my own.

This story begins with a major traffic accident where an 18-wheeler has jackknifed and caused a massive pileup. As a result of this activity, Quinton gets involved. Quinton is contacted by Judge Blaylock to contact another judge and accept guardianship of the daughter of one of the people killed in the accident. Quinton agrees and winds up working as her lawyer to get the benefits she deserves as a result of the death of her mother and the loss of one of her legs. This case becomes huge as a class action suit is made at the same time.
As you remember from the last book ending, Quinton received a note telling him that he knew the real story about Byron. As a result, Quinton had to worry about this while working on winning the case for Lily, the daughter, related to the traffic pile-up.
Read along and follow Quinto as he tries to deal with both issues. The ending is done quite well and will finally resolve the issues.

Quinton Bell is a new character for me.
I've read this as a stand alone but I am so intriged by Quinton's story that I will go back and read book 1.
Quinton's life is complicated, he hopes that his past can stay in the past, but someone seems to know all about his former life. Will he be exposed?
Quinton's new case is the heartbreaking circumstance of a young girl, who lost her mother as well as her leg in a terrible accident. Will Quinton be able to get justice for the little girl or will the big corporation manage to put blame on the girls mother. It's a risk all situation in court, will Quinton be able to proof his point?
This book kept me on my toes. A great example that the law may not always be able to protect the innocent. The storyline weaves between Quinton's private life issues and the court case following the fast pace action. I enjoyed especially the court scenes and inside in the court proceedings. Well written with a great story to tell.

Hunted By Proxy by Manning Wolfe is the second book in the Proxy Legal thriller series. Wolfe writes her legal thriller with precision and expertise, so it was very easy to get pulled into this story full of intrigue and mystery. There was not a moment throughout the book where I felt stunted or stalled in my reading - it had me turning page after page, waiting to see what would happen next. Each of the characters were fleshed out and had purpose - I am a stickler for good characters. I have to care about characters to really enjoy reading a book. Also important to know (if you’re a completist like me) - this book does stand on it’s own, and you do not have to read the first one to get fully immersed in this one. If you have any interest in mystery or legal thrillers - definitely check this book out.

In Hunted by Proxy, we are reacquainted with Quinton Bell who, as a fugitive from an organized crime boss, has assumed the identify of an old friend (now deceased). When a judge asks him to take on the case of a little girl who has lost her mother and been severely injured in a multicar accident, he is hesitant but agrees. The accident investigation, the complexity of the the case, and the conflicting interests of the parties concerned were at times thought provoking. At the same time, Quinton is on alert as it becomes clear that someone knows his true identity, a threat that has him wondering whether it might be time to disappear. Again. A well-paced and engaging legal thriller, with its fair share of twists and turns.

This was a decent legal thriller. I didn’t realize when I won it that it was a sequel, and I think having read the first one would be a benefit to the reader, though it was still good. Quinton Bell is a solo attorney trying to setup his practice in Houston, but he is hiding a big secret. He is also mourning the loss of someone close to him.
The story follows two basic stories—one about how Quinton is helping a young girl in her suit against a trucking company, and one where someone is stalking Quinton.
I loved the beginning, and some parts were definitely suspenseful. I would enjoy reading another book in this series.
