Aaron was born to parents who taught him two very important things: truth matters and imagination is not a crime.

Our protagonist has spent the rest of his life trying to live out those two maxims, much to the chagrin of every unfortunate around him (progenitors included).

As such, by age six or seven, he was writing stories about a dark, reptilian avenger who brought final, painful justice to the guilty- with unsettling illustrations to boot. His beloved and benighted parents realized that budding sociopathy would simply not do, and so they began introducing him to tales of great and good heroes. First the account of a certain carpenter, then a hairy-footed burglar, then a savior lion, and after that point our protagonist was plunging face first and arms out into a world of heroism both real and imagined. While far from a hero himself, he has endeavored to try and capture that same bowed but unbroken spirit that dwells in a dark and ugly world, because that as far as he can tell is what makes it all worth while.

Along this rambling, dreaming way he managed to find a woman he could bamboozle into loving him, and then even have children with, Lord have mercy on them all.

Now Aaron has managed to cram no few exciting jobs and hair-raising experiences into his life so far, and God help him, he hopes for many more. It is these that drive his captured glimpses of something epic. If you have the time you should pull up a chair, grab a beer, light a pipe, or whatever your pre-literary consumption ritual may be and give them a look. It's been said they are truly monstrous, but as any true hero knows, monsters often guard treasure.

So GOOD

I just finished Book 6 of the series, which wrapped up the whole series. Once I started it, I didn't break away from it to read anything else on my Kindle - I blew straight through the whole box set.

I highly recommend this series! The plots are well-constructed. The characters are very diverse, and expertly done. The almost nonstop action is perfect. Woven through it all are good morals and life lessons. Those things aren't done in a hit-you-over-the-head way. They're simply the results of good beings being good and doing good.

I have to strongly recommend this series to any fan of fantasy. You won't be disappointed, I don't think.

An incredibly deep saga about change in a dwarven kingdom

When society has no respect for you but demands you still perform spectacularly, when you have an iron will, a sense of what should be and what is right, the anger of disservice done by those you held most dear, when the world goes crazy and all the worst things happen to you and your team, could you stay strong to your beliefs and values? Could you pause your anger, resentment, and sense of injustice when you had a decisive moment? Could you make an honorable decision even when it should cost you your life? When you are already reviled by your own people for standing up for what is morally right, would you have the compassion to forgive? Would you have the character to be better than everyone else expects in pursuit of what you know to be right, when all the world is against you?

Read this amazing story to experience the moments when one dwarf’s impetus for betterment will reshape the entire vale and its inhabitants.
Dwarves, elves, humans and undead have all vied for control of this vale for quite a while but all are usurpers building upon the bones of a greater people, sadly most are unaware of what lies beneath.

A Fun Romp

This series is a fun fantasy romp with tons of action, well-rendered battle scenes, and just enough meat on its bones to have some real things to say. The pacing is good, and though some moments feel like they wrap up rather suddenly, it’s a satisfying read overall. Each installment is pretty short, which makes it easier to take in the full story. I enjoyed it, and I will look at the authors’ other offerings.

unexpected adventure

I liked the way the dwarf leader was reluctant but firm in his leadership. Building alliances under difficult circumstances is what life is all about. The array of characters drew me into the moment. I would recommend this book to anyone that likes fantasy fiction. I gave it a four rating because it was an engaging series.

An excellent adventure of dwarfic proportions

I read a lot of schlock to find the occasional gem, and this one does not disappoint. The characters are all well written and unique, each drawing you into their own story that is part of the larger whole.

the backdrop story is interesting and new and is great imagination bait.

I highly recommend this series.

Dwarvish Dirty Dozen

A really wonderful series of books. The heroes are very interesting and likeable people, and the villains are very dastardly. The storylines are engrossing and full of action.

Gave me a whole new look on dwarves. They are some bad a**. The characters are well developed and are almost real as they face moral dilemmas that they have to resolve besides just kicking butt. The banter between characters is really great. Loved this series.

Dwarfs and more!

A great and epic tale that serves the history of the dwarven brethren well. A lot of blood and thunder but so much more.

Will there be a sequel?

Awesome Dwarvish Dirty Dozen

Loved the complete series. Just wished it wasn't the end without knowing what happened to the Wain Dwarves and Tamza.

If you like your heros short and tough as nails, pick this series.

Dwarves can be the main hero in a book. This box set proves it. The authors moved the story arch along, too quickly. I love the banter between the characters. Maybe if we have more back stories about the main characters , I can give this a 5 stars rating. I enjoyed the stories, more adventures in this universe, please...
