More than 4,000 years ago God sent Abraham to the promised land. Led by his guardian angel, Abraham faces the evil of men and the forces of darkness as he travels through Hebron and Egypt and into the jaws of the Nine King War.Book 2 of an epic biblical series that brings to life the words of Genesis as Abraham, the father of Judaism, Christianity and Islam, continues the journey that will change the world.
Author, R. L. Barnesdale, calls this tome “A Biblical Novel” - I think he is trying to match the Bible page for page…
So far, ANGEL OF WAR is a two volume series that tips the scales at over 1500 pages combined. This book, “The Nine King War”, is Abram’s continued quest for leading his people to the Promised Land and includes the relationship with Hagar as he and wife Sarai seek to help El Shaddai make good on His promise to give them a son.
Barnesdale has done an excellent job with historical research. There are maps and notes with interactive numbers for those reading e-copies. Each chapter, and there are 95 of them, are titled after a character in the story. It would be immensely helpful to have a page at the beginning that gave a short bio for the many players in this saga.
Less impressive, for me, is the fantasy aspect. It’s too 21st century or ready for streaming and reminds me of things I’ve seen or read ad nauseam. Along this line, as the book progressed, there are scenes between individuals that also read very contemporary rather than as biblical times. One that stands out is a young couple on their honeymoon that spend a night on a houseboat then discuss an hotel like they have unlimited resources. Maybe I missed something but it’s incongruous and not the only example.
Still, if you’re a lover of historical fiction, fantasy, action and adventure, “The Nine King War” will entertain you for a long time. Each chapter is only about 8 pages long so it’s easy to take a break when needed. Violence level is high but not gratuitous, language is clean and sexual content is, well, biblical. Older teens could read this book, IMO, if they’re not squeamish about blood ‘n guts stuff.
If volume 3 paginates similar to the first two, the series will indeed be longer than most study bibles. I’m not sure the author will even finish in one more book and even less certain if I’m a reader but I do know folks who will love this book and for them, this is days of enjoyment📚
This book is an assembly of stories that refer to stories and characters from the Old Testament part of the Bible. The author does a great job with describing the characters and the settings. The stories read like mythology with the parts discussing War Angels and demons. Mostly pulling storylines from Genesis and Abraham’s life is is fiction. I enjoyed it. It is long.
