How do you catch a serial killer who attacks through cyberspace?
Investigator Carrie Kintz has been on the job with the Alaska Bureau of Investigation in Anchorage for only a couple of months. But she's already been thrown into the deep there's a serial killer on the loose. Not only is he claiming he's already killed eight people, he's also vowed that eight more lives will be eliminated if demands aren't met. The only clues to help law enforcement stop him are the ones he sends in crossword puzzles across the country--always in the same 8 Down position.
As Carrie works the case, she can't help but feel she's in over her head. And worse, there's signs that the deaths may be part of a frighteningly elaborate cyberattack. But without knowing how the victims are connected, tracking down a killer determined to prove he's smarter than everyone else may be impossible.
With the clock ticking and lives hanging in the balance, Carrie is desperate not to fail and be fired--or worse, to find her faith fading in the face of danger and uncertainty. But when she calls in security specialist Scott Patteson for his expertise on the case, she's suddenly also in danger of losing her heart.
Best-selling author Kimberley Woodhouse's thrilling romantic suspense series continues with this melding of cybercrime and true crime, perfect for fans of Irene Hannon, Lynnette Eason, and Colleen Coble.

Wow! Another edge of your seat, fabulous romantic suspense from Kimberley Woodhouse! After reading 26 Below, I couldn’t wait to read 8 Down. In this story, the cyber attacks continue, but they’re being carried out by a serial killer who uses the 8 down in crossword puzzles to offer clues to his next victims. He’s claimed to have killed eight people already and threatens to kill eight more. It’s up to newly hired investigator Carrie Kintz to find the killer before the body count increases. She relies on the help of seasoned cybersecurity expert Scott Patterson, and as they work together, they find an instant connection that leads to more.

This suspenseful mystery thoroughly hooked me from the first page. The killer’s particularly clever and I enjoyed how each chapter was prefaced with the 8 down crossword puzzle clue he uses. It was fun trying to see if I could figure them out. His crimes are chilling not only because they occur in Alaska in winter, but there’s no way for the victims to protect themselves. The murders seem to occur at random and are nearly impossible to prevent. The killer thrives on taunting Carrie which makes things even more intense. I enjoyed the way Carrie, Scott, and their team worked together to figure out the clues. Everything culminates in an exciting, nail-biting conclusion.

I loved Carrie & Scott! They were a great team who worked so well together. Their relationship developed pretty quickly, but was believable with the amount of time spent together. It added some lightness to an otherwise intense, suspenseful read. There’s also an element of faith naturally woven throughout the story.

Though this can be read as a standalone, I highly recommend reading 26 Below first. There are recurring characters and situations which are better understood if you’ve read the first book. Now I can’t wait to read the next book in the series! Highly recommend to romantic suspense fans! I received an advanced complimentary copy from the publisher. All opinions are my own and voluntarily provided. 4 1/2 stars!

8 Down is a fast paced story that carries over somewhat from 26 Below. This story takes place in Anchorage where someone is hacking into computers causing havoc by messing up traffic lights, pacemakers, and other ways. ABI investigator Carrie Kintz and private computer consultant Scott Patteson are brought together to find the people behind the mayhem and develop a quick relationship. This story held my attention from the start to the end. But it may not be over...

8 Down by Kimberley Woodhouse is the 2nd book in her Alaskan Cyber Hunters series. Oh. My. Word. It was so intriguing and full of constant action. I actually started a list of the clues to keep track of them, just to see if I could figure them out myself. Her twists and turns were nothing short of brilliant. If you haven’t started this series, it is a must for suspense/mystery lovers!!

Let me start off by sharing that I love letter and word games such as crosswords, Wordle, Bananagrams, etc. So be still my heart for this novel to have multiple crossword puzzle clues in each chapter that tied into the crimes. And because I must know...answers to the crossword puzzles at the end of the novel.

Engaging suspense novel from beginning to end. Look forward to reading the conclusion of the series.

(read for endorsement) What's an eight-letter word for 8 Down by Kimberley Woodhouse? If you said riveting or chilling or shocking, you would be right! I could hardly tear myself away from this story, fully absorbed in the characters and their race against a madman's whims. Woodhouse weaves suspense, romance, and faith into an engaging narrative that will keep you reading late into the night. If you thought the killer was ruthless in 26 Below, just wait until you see what he's up to now! I'll never look at an 8-down crossword clue the same way again!

I could hardly put this book down! From start to finish it was fast paced, mysterious, and action packed. I loved the premise with an investigator and a cyber expert who team up to catch a serial killer. I am also a huge crossword buff and loved how Woodhouse worked that thread into the story throughout. I won’t look at a crossword the same way again. I must admit it hit pretty close to home with our modern day cyber attacks and AI news. There is a romance but this book was so much bigger than that. The romance was done well and I enjoyed that. It was definitely a suspenseful and stressful (in a good way) story. I am a huge fan of books and movies in this genre and am excited to know there is a third book coming. The only thing that I regretted was that I had not read the first one in the series before starting this. You can definitely read this as a stand alone but I don’t recommend it only because the cases in all three books seem to tie together. I already have book one in my hot little hands and will be catching up before book three arrives in the fall. If you love crime stories and suspense this one just might be right up your alley.

8 Down continues the Alaskan Cyber Hunters series in a powerfully thrilling way! I was totally immersed in the masterfully constructed, unique, suspenseful plot from the beginning to the “to be continued” ending. Being a puzzle enthusiast, I was intrigued and entertained by the brilliantly created crossword clues aspect of the story. The characters are well-crafted and engaging. A bit of sweet romance and an inspiring faith thread round out this amazing read. I love the sneak peek at 70 North, the next book in the series, and can’t wait to read it! This book and series are a must read for Inspirational Romantic Suspense fans!

I didn’t know this was part of a series. However it didn’t affect the book for me. It’s a fairly fast moving book.
It keeps you guessing to the end. It does make you think about cybersecurity. Definitely recommend

Kimberly Woodhouse’s latest masterpiece, 8 Down! is a suspense-filled novel that will have you on the edge of your seat from start to finish. As the temperature drops, the tension rises, keeping you hooked until the very last page. Join Carrie Kintz , a new agent with the Alaska Bureau of Investigation in Anchorage, and the brilliant security specialist Scott Patteson, as they race against time to prevent a catastrophic disaster. It takes them awhile to realize that the key to the hints they are receiving are in the daily crossword puzzles in various publications. Will they be able to decipher the hints and stop the impending threat before it’s too late?

I have to admit, I’m not a fan of winter, even here in the ‘south’. But after reading 8 Down, I gained a whole new appreciation for the milder winters I experience. The chilling Alaskan setting described in this book really brought it to life and made me realize the terrifying impact of a widespread power outage. The author’s vivid descriptions and attention to detail made me feel like I was right there with Carrie and Scott, experiencing every tense moment. The plot’s realism is what truly sets this book apart, as it feels like a gripping scenario that could happen in our society at any given time. I wish I could tell you more without giving away any spoilers, but trust me when I say, if you love suspense-filled reads, you absolutely need to get your hands on 8 Down.

This is such a fascinating series, with the combination of law enforcement, crisis team management, and cyber security issues! You could jump in and read this book if you haven’t read book one because the author does fill the reader in on the general plot of what happened in the first book. However, I am very glad I read 26 Below a couple of weeks ago in preparation for this book. The case that the characters are working on in 8 Down is definitely related to all of the chaos in the first novel and made the storyline in this novel more vivid to me after all that had happened in 26 Below.

I really enjoyed the first book in the series and I enjoyed 8 Down even more! I loved the connection that built between Carrie and Scott. They were great characters and it was sweet to see them growing closer to each other as the case proceeded. They made the effort to communicate with each other and were understanding toward each other. I appreciated that when they each went through stress or felt overwhelmed, the other one attempted to offer their support. They felt very authentic to me.

The villain was heinous and continued to reign down terror throughout the book. Carrie and the team had an uphill battle for the entire span of the story. It kept me eagerly turning pages to see how things worked out. I’m looking forward to the third book in the series.

Oh wow, I loved this one more than the first one! I could not put the book down, or I wished I hadn't had to put the book down. It grabbed me from the first scene and would NOT let go.
First of all, if you haven't read 26 Below by Kimberley Woodhouse, make sure you do before you read 8 Down. Also, you may not want to read this review until you do.
Like 26 Below, 8 Down takes place in Alaska, this time the focus is in Anchorage as opposed to Fairbanks. As the reader, we can see how the crimes in this story connect to the previous book, seeing as 26 Below ended on a bit of a cliffhanger. The protagonists and the world think they have captured the mastermind, however, we know better.
This second book in the Alaskan Cyber Hunters series has two new protagonists whose point of view we see the story through, Carrie Kintz from the ABI and Scott Patteson who is Jason’s friend in Anchorage that we hear about in 26 Below. And we are again seeing part of the story through the villain’s eyes.
In this story the villain looks a lot like a serial killer to our protagonists as he has an M.O. of giving hints about his kills in crossword puzzles, all in the 8 Down position. These deaths take place due to hacking taking place. And let me tell you, it is so diabolical how this villain just doesn’t care about anyone, and the amount of everyday devices that can be hacked to end a life. This psychopath appears to be going off the deep end with all his killing, and not caring about who he (or is it a she?) kills in his plan. And of course our heroes don’t really know what the villains plans are at first, and aren’t even aware of all the deaths that are connected to him/her. They just know he keeps contacting them, and is definitely after some sort of notoriety.
There is suspense, and there are twists, and there is a love story as well, along with spiritual truths.
If you are a fan of suspense and trying to figure out clues, you will want to get your hands on this book, or actually, this series.
I can’t wait til the next book comes out. 8 Down is definitely a book I recommend.

8 Down is the second book in the Alaskan Cyber Hunters series. While you may be able to enjoy this as a standalone, I definitely feel like you will get the most out of the story by reading this one in order. The stories are connected and reading both will give you the best overall picture as to what's going on.

Whew, what a read! First of all, I think anytime the author lets us see into the mind of the bad guy, it adds a certain element of creepiness to a story... which is definitely true here. Aside from that though, this series deals with cyber-attacks... it's quite frightening to think of all the ways a cyber-attack could occur with the devices we use every single day. This again adds to the creepiness of it all. This book is clever and thrilling... and will definitely keep you on the edge of your seat from start to finish. Throw in a romance and it's definitely a wonderful read that I really enjoyed. It does end on a bit of a cliffhanger, leaving me anxious to see what will happen next.

If you enjoy Christian suspense, you will definitely want to add this one to your TBR.

Kimberley Woodhouse is deviant and terrifying and brilliant. I could stop my review there and have the book summed up nice and succinctly. But I won't.

She had my heart racing, my brain pinging, and my thoughts whirling. I did not want to put this book down, and in fact, only did so I could sleep. But will I sleep well after finishing this? And with my tinfoil uniform already well-fitting? Doubtful. Will I whole-heartedly recommend that everyone who enjoys thrillers read this? One hundred percent!

Again, I was here for the plot! I enjoyed this one more than the first book. I liked the MCs more, I could root for them. However, the romance story itself, particularly at the end, was very, very similar to the first book. I don't know how realistic this is, but it was a fun read.

Content: killer POVs, short snippets of murder victims last moments, on-page killings (not very detailed)

I loved this romantic suspense novel. I loved all the action and the romance. I loved that the story flows very well. I loved Carrie and Scott. “Eight down meant crossword puzzle clues? Why would he do that? Is he really killing people based on crossword puzzle clues?”

“We have a serial killer on the loose.”

“If any of you lacks wisdom, you should ask God, who gives generously to all without finding fault.”

This book was okay. Very similar in style to 26 Below which I liked a little better. I don’t read a lot of books that take place in Alaska, so I did enjoy the setting once again.

The serial killer aspect along with the crossword clues used in the killings was an interesting plot. I enjoyed that part of the book and feel like it was pretty strong; however, there were a few negative things that kept this from being a 4 or 5 star book. First, for being a suspenseful book dealing with law enforcement and a serial killer, it was too cutesy at times. I would have preferred it a little more gritty and realistic. A lot of the character interactions and dialogue didn’t ring true to me. Also, the romance angle, like 26 Below, was pretty bad. I’ve never been a fan of insta-love in books and I guess this must be the author’s thing. Definitely took away from the book.

"People are dying. And they will keep dying."

Kimberley Woodhouse has penned another thrilling suspense in this second book in the Alaskan Cyber Hunters series. With brilliant plot pacing, clues are parceled out skillfully. I found the story intriguing, fully invested as I tried to solve the clues along with Carrie and her team.
I really enjoyed the changing POV, between the main characters and the demented mind of a serial killer. It gave an additional twist as the readers try to figure out his identity. With crossword puzzle clues, cyberterrorism and a dead body count rising, one wonders when it will end. A roller-coaster ride full of twists and turns from the first page to the last.
While the teams in both 26 Below and 8 Down think they have solved the crime, readers are left with an ending that foreshadows more to come. I cannot wait to read the conclusion. Fans that enjoy suspense with a light faith and romance thread will love this book.

8 Down by Kimberley Woodhouse was a better suspense story than her first novel in the Alaskan Cyber Hunter series, 26 Below. My biggest issue with 26 Below was the lack of urgency by the characters. It did not seem the most important item to them to solve what was coming. This time around, Woodhouse crafted the characters who really worked hard at solving the clues and was frustrated as the body count kept climbing. The suspenseful element was handled nicely. I enjoyed the crossword puzzle clues. Unique, yet thrilling. Characters were nicely developed. They had the deep wound they needed to explore and overcome. The characters fell in love as the story moved along. The scary part about the whole story is how simple the tricks that the villain did to kill others. All the cyber-attacks could happen at any moment. Shows how relying on technology for so much of our modern life could be a very bad idea. There are moments of spiritual enlightenment for the characters but as life choice, not in the preachy sense. Overall, 8 Down by Kimberley Woodhouse is a thrilling suspense novel. Plenty of moments of rushing and coming to the climactic moment. The next book in the series is called 70 North, and I am looking forward to reading it.

The suspense continues in 8 Down, book two of the Alaskan Cyber Hunters series, as investigator Carrie Kintz and the Alaska Bureau of Investigation work to catch a serial killer using crossword puzzles—always in the 8 DOWN position—to taunt both law enforcement and the citizens of Anchorage.

Fans of mystery and suspense will enjoy the unfolding investigation, especially as Woodhouse keeps readers guessing at the killer’s true identity with a well-crafted UNSUB who leaves behind a chilling trail of clues.

As with the first book, I appreciated how light threads of faith and scripture are gently woven throughout. I’m always drawn to characters who seek the Lord through prayer and rely on His Word for strength and wisdom—something Woodhouse consistently writes with sincerity.

There is a romantic thread here as well. It’s clean and brings a softer element to the story, though I’ll admit it wasn’t something I personally connected with. The pacing was rushed and I found myself skimming through those parts as they didn’t hold my interest as much.

Still, Woodhouse ends this one on another well-timed cliffhanger, setting the stage for the “bone-chilling finale” in 70 North, which is already available.

Overall, 8 Down is a clean Christian suspense novel with light romance. If you enjoy faith-filled thrillers or authors like Lynette Eason, this series may be one to check out.

✨ Content to consider: political activism, on-page murder, bombing, drug use and addiction, discovery of a dead body.

I enjoyed the first book in this series: 26 Below, but I found this second book: 8 Below to be even better! It was a page turner from the very first chapter.

If you have not read 26 Below by Kimberley Woodhouse yet, I would highly encourage you to do so before you embark on reading 8 Down. The storylines complement each other so well.

Both 26 Below and 8 Down take place in Alaska, though this time the reader finds themselves in Anchorage instead of Fairbanks. In the previous book even though it ended on a cliffhanger, it seems the criminal is caught and all is going to turn out fine now. We the readers will discover this is not so.

Carrie Kintz from the ABI is a great leading lady and it was cool to see her working her first case.

Without giving to much away, I will say this villain is pure evil as they go around hacking things and not caring who is hurt or killed as their plan unravels.
There is drama, suspense, high stakes, unseen twists, heart, and faithful truths all woven within the storyline as the MCs try and solve this mystery before anyone else gets hurt or killed.

If you enjoy suspense, mystery, or detective type reads that are clean -
you should definitely check out this series!
I am looking forward to book number 3 releasing soon.

So in case you weren't convinced that Kimberley Woodhouse could write a spine-tingling suspense in 26 Below, there will be ZERO doubt after you read 8 Down! Whoo-ee - get ready for the ride of your life as the clues and stakes are ramped up like you'd never imagine!

In the span of 24 hours, I read this book from cover to cover, and I would've read it in my sleep if that was an option. The crossword clues added a fun twist to the story that I tried to keep up with, but quickly realized that a) I do not have the mind of a killer, and b) I would not cheat by skipping to the end where the answers could be found. This crazed madman had Carrie, Scott, and the whole team at the Alaska Bureau of Investigation on their toes the entire time, and as a reader, the only thing I was missing was a bowl of popcorn.

It's easy to see why 8 Down was nominated for a coveted Christy Award because it is THAT GOOD! If you are a fan of edge-of-your-seat, suspenseful tales, you have GOT to add this book to your TBR stack. I guarantee you'll have it read in 24 hours, too. ;)

Alaskan Bureau of Investigation agent, Carrie Kintz has not worked at the ABI all that long, but becoming the overseeing agent has been one of her dreams until that case comes with a ruthless serial killer who leaves clues of his upcoming murders in crossword puzzles.

Scott Patteson of Cyber Solutions receives orders from his boss to help the ABI on a case involving hacked traffic lights. One person dies in the pile up while others have been injured. As the murders surge, Scott's attraction toward Carrie does too. The UNSUB escalates his murders and his demands.

8 Down is an intriguing suspense story with a character whose drug addiction causes him to increase his attacks. He has visions of grandeur related to himself though he can't see that his drug use is affecting his judgment. The bad guy, Griz, plants to take over Alaska and place himself on the throne.

As the body count rises, Carrie and Scott's characters develop. The tension, too, soars. It's all hands on deck while this investigation continues.

Well....this was creepy. Oh my goodness, this villain is crazy and super creepy. I did really enjoy the story! Great writing! I loved Carrie Kintz's character, even though she was stressed out at trying to track down the bad guy she stayed strong. Cyber-attacks are scary! Scott Patteson was there to help her, and I really liked their relationship. They worked very well together. I also loved the faith elements that were included in the story. This book definitely kept me wanting to read until it was finished, because I was very much wanting to know how it would turn out! Definitely recommend!

EEEP! There is so little I can say without giving too much away, but can I just say that Kimberley Woodhouse knows how to take you along for a wild and chilling (in more ways than one) ride.

The complexity of the villain's plan, the taunting, the motivation and trouble at the core--all brilliant. I mean, considering how the villain taunted them with his "brilliance," and seeing Kimberley's brilliance? Let's just say I'm glad she's on God's side. No joke.

EAGER to get started on the next one. I keep trying to save them and spread them out, but um... not sure I can!

The Serial Killer in 8 Down is ruthless, obtaining pleasure from each kill and delights in breaking others down. The corrupt antagonist remains a mystery, as he strikes unpredictably. Investigator Carrie Kintz leads her team in a frantic race to catch the killer before the next attack. Surrounded by chaos, Carrie finds love with Scott Patteson, a security expert assisting in the investigation. As they work against time to stop the killer, a romance blooms. Together, they decipher clues, including those hidden in the daily crossword puzzle at 8 Down, where the killer leaves his mark through cyber attacks that claim lives.

8 Down is an engaging tale powerfully told by Carrie, Scott, and the cryptic killer whose mind is a frightening place to be. Readers will be on edge trying to piece together the puzzle clues. The clues were running through my mind as I tried to fall asleep.

Even with 8 Down being part of a series, this standalone novel seamlessly blends in past events. The Alaskan backdrop, intense suspense, and captivating characters make for a riveting read that will keep readers enthralled until the final page.

Wowee, crac-a-zowee! 8 Down is amazing! I haven't read 26 Below yet, but now I wish I had. These books can work as a standalone, but I don't recommend it. Mostly, because 8 Down continues the story from 26 Below and ends with a cliffhanger, leading to the next book. You won't want to miss a single moment. I loved the crossword clues at the beginning of each section and chapter. If you can figure them out on your own, it adds so much tension to the story. My pulse was literally pounding! The villain in this book is a serial killer, so it has more bodies than some romantic suspense, but it was all done tactfully and tastefully. 8 Down is far more intense than scary, but will keep you on your toes the whole way through. It will chill you to the bone when you discover how vulnerable our society really is. Don't miss this amazing series! I highly recommend these for fans of romantic suspense and lovers of police dramas, disaster movies like The Day After Tomorrow, and Hallmark's Crossword Mysteries.

A roller-coaster ride of thrills, suspense, murder and mayhem. This book is non-stop action guaranteed to keep you guessing. The perpetrator is known to the reader but not the characters in the story.

There are so many amazing characters! I want to give a shout-out to everyone who works in law enforcement. They are brave, and their services are commendable. I enjoyed the sweet romance between Carrie and Scott. It really helped to lighten things up.

This book reminds us that there is evil in the world. It also reminds us that God is with us. Deuteronomy 31:8 "The Lord himself goes before you and will be with you; He will never leave you nor forsake you."
