A lovely collection - I think it's a collection rather than original poems (?). I have just found a copy on a "Take One for Free" shelf at work. I have enjoyed it very much and will take it back for others to enjoy.
Rosen and McGough's styles and senses of humour complement each other nicely. Michael is sweeter; McGough more acerbic. The poems now arevthecstuff of nostalgia - maybe they always were? What would early 80s kids make of their references to old money, uncles from the war, schools with railings...
This old feller like these poems very much - and, yes, I laughed outloud a few times. Once at Michael's photo on the back cover! 70's Rosen is unrecognisable as the fella we know now - more Oddbod Jnr, if you can manage the reference...
I remember this poetry book from my childhood. Sweet and funny poems, which are great to be read out loud. They were hilarious to me when I was younger, but I must admit that they weren't quite as funny as I had once found them. I still think younger children would find the easy humour entertaining, but alas there are probably more entertaining poetry anthologies for young readers to enjoy.
I have recently become acquainted with Roger McGough so I was excited to read this book. Although I found a number of poems I really like, I was somewhat disappointed. Maybe it is the British humor???
great line drawings by Sara Midda. I love the poems of Roger McGough & Michael Rosen. Wickedly funny is an understatement. Luckily, I came across a hard-back second-hand copy ~ the dust cover is classic Sara Midda.
