Their love makes them stronger together… Unless the world rips them apart

Jadren El-Adrel knows he’s a mess. He’s a cobbled-together monster pretending to be a wizard, still unable to master the magic that makes him pretty much immortal and is useless for anything else. Though he’s tried to learn to work with his familiar, Seliah, he’s still terrified to discover what might happen if he gives himself full access to the depths of her powerful magic. Some questions should never be answered.

Seliah Phel got her happy ever after. Jadren loves her; they’re together in a safe and beautiful place; and they’re finally learning to work together as wizard and familiar. But even she must recognize that Jadren continues to stew in his black moods, brooding that only worsens when he receives a missive from home, his horrible family demanding the that they both return to House El-Adrel.

As the denizens of House Phel fight an increasingly pitched battle against the enemies determined to destroy them forever, Jadren and Selly fight their own war—against the past and to overcome their own failings. To become truly stronger together.

This is the concluding book in the trilogy featuring side characters from the Bonds of Magic trilogy. That trilogy must be read first, as Gabriel and Nic and the rest of the House Phel gang feature prominently in this book.

This was an extremely satisfying conclusion to the Jadren and Seliah trilogy. From where they started in Shadow Wizard, to how this book ended; it was a perfect conclusion of not just their romance and teamwork as Wizard-Familiar, but how they help each other overcome their inner demons.

I’m still in love with the ‘magic by commerce’ world building in both trilogies. I’m excited that more books based in this world are forthcoming in 2024.

Full throated Cheers and Bravo.

Jadren El-Adrel: ascerbic, snarky, prickly, misanthropic, secret cinnamon roll. In other words, my favorite type of MMC!

I have absolutely loved Jadren and Seliah’s trilogy and the only thing I have to complain about is that it’s over.

This book was honestly a perfect conclusion, though. Both characters came so far in their own rights and grew together to make a powerful force. I am so happy and proud of these two crazy kids!

Also excited that Jeffe Kennedy announced another trilogy featuring Alise in 2024, hurray! Maybe Nic will finally have that baby lol.

I've already talked a whole lot about being baffled by the story and series structure across the six books Kennedy has written in this world. I'm not going to get into all of that again, except to say that while the ending to this book was much more complete and normal (in my opinion, obviously) than the ending to Grey Magic, it's still obvious that the overall arc here is unfinished. It looks like Kennedy probably plans to repeat the pattern of beginning a new trilogy with a different couple who were briefly teased in this series, and although that will be published as a separate trilogy, it is functionally a continuation of this story from Bonds of Magic and Renegades of Magic.

Overall, I found this trilogy less satisfying than the first. Kennedy tends to rely on the same plot points over and over again for drama. One of the both of Seliah and Jadren are getting kidnapped and held captive by somebody at some point in every book. Every person they meet has the same reaction which is that they want Seliah for themselves and don't trust Jadren and/or view him as an obstacle (this includes Seliah's own family.) The romance between them is Seliah being unwaveringly committed to Jadren the whole time while he recovers from the Unworthiness Syndrome that afflicts all romantic heroes with "dark pasts." There just wasn't enough actual story here for three books. This book finally did something at the end but didn't quite overcome the feeling that it was a bit of a slog to get there.

Will I continue? Yes, as I've been saying I'm interested in the world and the larger arc. I hope Kennedy has some fresher ideas for what kind of peril the characters are going to be put through next time, though.

Great to see their self confidence grow and finally trusting in their bond. I love the series, but also struggled with so many losses. It felt somewhat hopeless, with enemies gaining so much. Clearly the young female wizard will have an awful struggle.

Jadren El-Adrel fears yet yearns to learn the truth about himself and his magic. He has learned to work with his half-feral familiar, Seliah. Jadren receives a summons to return to House El-Adrel with Seliah. He knows his mother holds the answers he seeks, but he refuses to comply. When they kidnap Seliah, Jadren willingly returns, only to discover an unlikely ally. Will Jadren muster the courage to face his mother? Can he and Seliah help her brother against his enemies?

Seliah (Phel) El-Adrel finally has her wizard and his love. They are slowly learning the workings of his unique magic. Their tentative reprieve is shattered when Jadren’s mother orders them to return. Seliah knows she must bolster her snarky wizard’s bravado to confront his mother. She has taught him that they are stronger together than apart. Will Seliah’s words prove true? Can she help Jadren recognize his true potential? And at what expense?

It is no secret that I love snarky, broody wounded type heroes. Jadren has captured my rapt fascination (and love) since his introduction in BONDS OF MAGIC. I like that the author explored some of the horrors Jadren experienced. It explains why he behaves the way he does, his views, etc. I also like that Jadren is slowly discovering his abilities, and yes, self-worth. He still harbors doubts. Years of trauma are not so easily erased. However, Jadren is learning to overcome it with Seliah’s help and love.

Seliah has come a long way since her introduction in BOM. She is no longer the half-mad, feral girl but a familiar learning the workings of her new world. I love how Seliah never gave up on Jadren. Even at his worst, she still saw his potential. Seliah understands him better than most because like him she was broken too.

TWISTED MAGIC is the third book in Jeffe Kennedy’s dark fantasy-romance trilogy, RENEGADES OF MAGIC – a continuation from her BONDS OF MAGIC series. I strongly advise starting with BOM before venturing into this series. BONDS OF MAGIC introduce the intricacies of the author’s world, the dynamics between wizards and familiars and the characters involved. RENEGADES OF MAGIC also continue the ongoing plot from BOM.

💙🖤 Twisted Magic Review 🖤💙

Thank you so much to Jeffe Kennedy for the opportunity to read and review this book!

Twisted Magic is a paranormal fantasy and book three in The Renegades of Magic series. As always, this will be as spoiler free as possible, so if this feels vague - that’s why. After the events at the end of Rogue Familiar, Seliah finally has everything she’s ever dreamed of. She’s learning to work together with the wizard she loves. But when they are summoned back to Jadren’s horrible family, can they truly overcome everything in their path?

This was such a fun ending to this series! I really enjoyed seeing Jadren and Seliah’s relationship bloom in this book. They both grew into strong characters and I really enjoyed their journey over the past few books. This is such a fun world and I love the magic system so much! All of these characters are so well developed and this is such a great read!

Overall this was a wonderful five star read! I love this world and these characters! This book had some potential triggers, so please check if you’re sensitive. This book had some fun spicy moments throughout, and it balanced well with the story, so overall three flames for spice

If you’re a fan of fantasy romance with strong characters, great banter and unique magic, then absolutely pick this series up!! As this is a continuation of the story started in the two previous books, i absolutely recommend reading them in order.

Man, Jeffe Kennedy is firing on all cylinders with Twisted Magic. The title is apt. While the focus is on completing the primary story of Jadren and Seliah’s relationship from the earlier books in this trilogy, Kennedy weaves in a strong element of danger for the couple from the first series in this world, Nic and Gabriel, while also giving what I (rather desperately) hope are hints of the couple for the next series in Alise and her encounter with someone new (and their story I also hope will assist another couple we’ve come to know)!

This sounds complicated, but it really isn’t. These three primary threads are twisted into a greater whole that also, wonderfully, expands an overarching story that Kennedy’s been building up over six books—that the ruling houses of this wizard/familiar society have been hiding much, much more about the earlier downfall of House Phel than almost anyone realizes.

There’s action, there’s adventure, there’s risk, and there’s Selly and Jadren finally accepting and addressing what they really mean to one another. Add this all up, and Twisted Magic is simply delicious.

If you’re a fan of romantic fantasy, you really, really should be reading this series. You are missing out if you are not!

Woohoo.

I have been really looking forward to this one and it does not disappoint. The action is excellent, the spiciness is very spicy. I'm so happy with this book, I'm super excited for the next trilogy but I'm not left with an unsatisfied feeling either. Jeffe Kennedy does excellent work again.

Read in one day. Excellent romantasy, wrapping up the 2nd trilogy set in this world of wizards and familiars and setting up a third trilogy (Alise's with I'm guessing a cinnamon roll hero-snerk). I really like Jadren and Seliah and how their broken parts help them see each other clearly. I like that the series has a greater arc giving hope for a rather dark world.

🌶️🌶️🌶️🌶️

I did give this four stars instead of three, but that's due to my hope that the issue of Jadren's near immortality, while Seliah will eventually die (while mentioned), will be satisfactorily addressed in the next trilogy about Alise. I'm also very curious about the references in previous books to his fertility. I feel we were led to believe that he has children within the house, but this was also not addressed

3.5 rounded up. Enjoyable but things seemed resolved too quickly. I would prefer more time spent on the political machinations

Loved the conclusion of Jaden and Selia’s story. This has been my favorite world from the very first Bonds of Magic book which I couldn’t put down. Eagerly looking forward to reading about Alise’s journey.
