Rate this book
Tan was only looking for a one-night hideout from a grumpy Prince.
But then he met a handsome orc.

Over late-night card games, Tan's undeniable chemistry with Vir draws them both in. He finds himself longing for more than a life on the road.

When the Prince's men track him down, Tan knows he can't stay. But Vir insists on coming along for the ride - even if it means facing royalty again.

Together Tan and Vir set off on an adventure laced with humor and heart. Side by side, they learn the true meaning of home.

Outlaws make their own rules, after all. And this mismatched pair may have found a cozy hideaway to finally call home.

I love the world that's been created and the characters but this one wasn't my favorite. I did like it better than book two (though I believed in the romance more in book two).

This is another where I wish we had another pov. Tan is an interesting character but wanted to get to know Vir better too.

The water elf city and culture is fascinating.

It didn't feel as.. alive as the others in some ways.

It felt more like regular fantasy than cozy fantasy 😕 Not sure if I'll continue with the next one.

Ugh. I got click baited by the cover art in a Facebook ad. I thought this would be good. An orc and an elf fall in love. Only, the orc is actually an elf under a spell. He ran away from war because he didn’t want to fight, he wanted to sing. So our bard orc is all smiles and sings all the time. He’s big, he’s green, but other than that, he’s not an orc at all. The elf, well…he’s just your typical elf; but hey, that goes pretty well with the plot that just trips along without bothering to do little things like make sense. There’s no real over arcing storyline, rather the characters just move through time and you follow along. You have to listen to the ridiculous dialogue. You have to watch them act like morons. You have to have wait while they break out in pointless fights and arguments. And to top it all off, there’s really no romance to speak of.

Cute little MM story, fantasy, magic, spies, elves, and orcs. Vir and Tan were interesting characters, we learn some about Tan's past in this adventure tale. I'm hoping we get more about Vir in the next. I'm eager to see how Tan handles the trouble he left behind and that he will have to face in the next book. Good start to a new to me author.

cosy fantasy does not have to be synonymous with boring

I just gave up at about 40% because I just didn't care about anyone... probably because I kept feeling as though I was missing parts of the story. Things just jumped around and leapt from event to event in such a way that I honestly wondered if I had some buggy copy of the book, somehow... but no.

Also not quite sure how anything about this book in particular was "cozy," but maybe it gets there after the halfway mark? I'm not bothering to find out myself, but if you are so inclined go ahead.

Sweet fantasy adventure with a touch of romance

Tan, elf on the run and looking for somewhere to hide, is saved by Vir, a handsome sunshiny orc. When his past catches up with him, Tan and Vir find themselves captured and setting sail on an adventure together.

“I can see you’re more than good enough. And I don’t mean just deep down under all your baggage. I mean all of you.”

Many of the characters had a lot of past pain to overcome. They were able to find comfort through repairing old friendships and building new ones. The romance between Tan and Vir was very slow burn with just a hint of a growing romantic relationship near the end. Interesting side characters and plenty of opportunity for more adventures. This is the first book of the series I’ve read and my first introduction to this world.

“He finally recognized that caring about others hadn’t made him weaker. Not at all. There was a strength in him now that he wasn’t sure he’d ever felt.”

I received a free copy of this book and am voluntarily leaving a review.

Good read

I enjoyed the book. Was not quite what I expected from reading the title or some other similarly titled and decreed books I've read. Liked the characters and the story. Not sure where the title comes into play.

Not sure what was going on with this story. I don't know that Tan and Vir really had the time to get to know each other before Tan's past came after them that the description of the book promised. I'm not sure that I much cared for any of the characters. Things happened a little too quickly, and we didn't have a lot of time to get attached to anything or anyone. I don't know that Tan and Vir's relationship had enough time to develop.

Once again, another fun fantasy that was easy to read.

I feel like seeing two stars looks bad, but it’s not in this instance. I think since the book was so short that it would be hard to rate any higher.

It’s like rating a novella, there are many things dealt with and less pages to discuss them. It can be more challenging to do right.

That being said, the pacing of this book was wonderful! When books are shorter like this one, usually there are parts that feel rushed or sped up to just get to the end. Not this one. Everything felt like it was happening at the right time.

Also, the romance was definitely not as pronounced in this book and more so focused on Tan’s journey at finding out who he is and how he can be strong while being vulnerable.

Fun, enjoyable read! The plot twist had me fuming. (How DARE he…that’s all I’ll say.)
