Hali Waverly is gearing up for a big change. The hip surgery she’s been dreading is only two weeks out, and that means it’s time to get things in order before she’s down for the count to recuperate. She has a plan….and then the unthinkable happens. When leaving the doctor after scheduling surgery, a bank robbery suspect crosses Hali’s path. When his mask is removed, her boyfriend Gray Hunter recognizes him as a fellow shifter, and the questions only grow from there. It seems there are a lot of strange shifters hanging around St. Pete Beach, and they don’t belong to the same faction. The one spot they agree to meet is Hali’s tiki bar...and sparks—and fur—are about to fly. Hali doesn’t want to get involved in pack politics, but she might not have a choice. For Gray, who turned his back on the pack years ago, the appearance of warring factions on his turf means bad things are about to happen. He has no choice but to stand up and fight, however. Hali knows what she wants for her future. Unfortunately for her, she’s going to have to go to war to get it. This fight—so many claws and teeth to contend with—might be out of her reach. That won’t stop her from fighting…even to the death.
Hali is a great character, she's a strong witch, part of a coven (which her grandmother leads) owns a tiki bar and lives in a holiday lodges just off the beach. The lodge and bar are part of a giant resort complex but Hali got them as part of a settlement after the resort owner drunkenly ran her over one night. Unfortunately Hali was.left with a permanent disability afterwards, her hip.was severely damaged in the accident which means Hali.spends her days in severe pain and with limited mobility. The resort and sea off it is a draw for supernatural trouble in myriad different ways, from murders to robberies and anything in between. There is also a group of Dark Morrow who are intent on getting control of the beach and seeing Hali destroyed. Grey is a wolf shifter who does not have a pack (due to an incident in his past) he is still close to his brother though. He earns a living by working in his own P.I.Firm. He and Hali meet in the first book and the attraction is instantaneous although both of them are cautious about acting on it, by this book the two are for all.intents and purposes living together and have expressed their love for one another. Hali has a best.friend Callie whom Rusty (Grey's brother) keeps hitting on and Ball's family also feature quite.prominently. Add in sirens, weresharks, werecrocodiles and other exotic supernaturals and that is the cast. These are fun reads with a lot of humor, oh yes Hali also has a familiar in the shape of a talking flamingo who also happens.to be a drunk...........................
This is an outstanding paranormal cozy mystery series. They find cast of characters in an entertaining storyline. Holly is a witch who owns her own tiki bar on a resort on a beach in Florida. She got that bar and a villa to live in because the owner of the resort was drunk and hit her with a golf cart and injure her. To keep himself out of trouble His fixer made it were holy owned the bar on his property and a village to live in with no strings attached. Runs her bar her way and how she wants. She’s a powerful witch and keeps the beach in the area safe. Her boyfriend whose name is Gray is a shifter and private investigator. he occasionally works with the police and occasionally with the owner of the resort who is married to his aunt many wives ago. Once again there’s a paranormal threat to the area and Holly and Gray are out to protect the citizens of the area. Red on and see what adventure weights. Plenty of action plenty of humor a bit of Snark and attitude but always a fun read.
This sixth volume of the series kicks off with Hali and her boyfriend Gray in a consultation for Hali's long-delayed surgery, something that should really have happened six books ago. All the usual ingredients are present: Gray is possessive, Hali is sassy, there's something that's nearly but not quite plot-shaped. At least this time, Hali's friend Carrie gets a date with an actual woman and there's some indication that the author understands that turning gay people straight isn't a thing.
The most disappointing thing is that the epilogue from the previous book mostly gets undone here. There was the appearance of some intrigue between the wolf shifters and the long-term big bads, the merrow (who have really been damp squibs so far, six books in) but, unless there's some deep 4D chess going on, that all comes out very quickly, with a whole lot of contrition.
It's a popcorn book, and you can tear though it in a handful of hours. By this point, you know what you're going to get. I'm happy to read these on Kindle Unlimited, but I don't think I'm invested enough to continue reading once I cancel that.
1) This is the 3rd or 4th book in which Rusty works to make Carrie not a lesbian anymore. It perpetuates the “women really mean yes when they say no” misogynistic bullshit.
2) Stop calling them “good girls” Especially how Gray was towards the end of the book when he said something like - if you’re a good girl you can go to the restaurant.”
3) The way Gray answers for Hali is disturbingly worrying behavior. How he told her she couldn’t go out alone with Carrie and had to go with him and Rusty was abusive behavior. This is an abusive relationship.
Normalizing mentally abusive, codependent relationships should not be happening in the 21st century.
4) I’m tired of reading so much about how Hali and Gray love each other more than life itself and EVERYONE in their lives comments about it - constantly.
5) Hali actually had a personality at the start of this series, but now she’s a docile lump who hasn’t grown as a character. The books have become very Gray focused. And this author’s misguided attempt to make him “alpha” is instead glamorizing abusive codependent relationships.
6) I’m mad at myself for continuing to read this series. The first few books were good, and I enjoyed them. But that’s what constantly happens when I read this author’s books - and her other name Amanda Lee. Then everything gets ridiculous with recycled phrases and conversations and the “I love more - no I love you more - no I love you more” dialog that I skip through
The countdown to Haley's hip surgery is finally here! She has had to admit, however reluctantly that the pain is just going to get worse, not better as time goes on. As usual, there is much more going on with Haley, Gray and company. As well as trying to teach her lazy, highly unmotivated brother how to mix drinks so he can take over her bar during her recovery, she is juggling Gray's mother, being babysat by Rusty, and the feeling that things are about to take bad turn in a big way. What's a witch to do? Read this fun, snarky series and find out for yourself! Be sure to start with the first book!
Hali and Gray get caught in the tail end of a robbery straight after a dining out in Tampa... Gray knocks out the masked, gun wielding shifter fleeing from the scene with a bag of loot only to discover it's someone he knows from the pack...
Helene and Harlan are still lurking around and appearing to be friendly with the couple, but is there an ulterior motive? Especially when the bar comes underī attack from another bunch of robbers that same day...
I have gotten used to the way that the huge Violent/ magical crises often pass almost as an afterthought. Hart's books are all about the relationships. I am eager to see how Rusty and Jesse are going to get along. I am wondering if Hart is going to finish up the series once her hip is fixed. But I even want to see why Wayne was added to the series. I love her characters and story arcs.
Which is ironic as she is about to go into hip surgery. Gone is the young woman who shyer away from her coven and wanted to just keep her head down in life. She has become such a powerhouse that a Shifter from Europe researches her before he comes to the resort.
This story is so solid and will have you speed racing just to find out all the details.
What a way to spend the final weeks leading up to Hali’s surgery. Speaking as a major surgery survivor, hopes and wishes for all the best. I for one, would like to see a successful surgical outcome. If you’ve never lived in chronic pain, you are very lucky. Crossed fingers for the author to give Hali a good prognosis.
I love the series of books. All the main characters are a lot of fun to read about. I know that I've gotten to know them in the back story I really enjoy Catching up with everyone when a new book comes out. I can't wait to see how it goes after the surgery on the hip. Plus I wanna see how Jessie does.
Hali and Gray are at the consultation for her upcoming hip surgery. Things go haywire after lunch post consult. Robberies are happening which include at the resort where her tiki bar is located. They try to take Hali out of the equation but that goes badly for the bad guys. The merrow are back and Hali still has to deal with Gray's mother. The ending was different and disappointing.
This had everything; comedy, action, romance and a bit of suspense. The perfect book for nighttime reading. I cannot wait until the next book so see what happens with Hali. I loved reading this book!
She is a wonderful author. I’ve read almost everything she’s written and I’m still working through her books. She creates lovable characters, great plots and fascinating settings.
The magic was used wisely, the story followed to the right conclusion. Family members were believable. Can't wait for the next chapter and wedding on Moon stone Island
So, going into this I was afraid the " mother-in-law" was going to turn out to be evil and a big problem. So many things happening, that I can't to see what happens next. Another excellent Lily Harper Hart story, really lived it.
Our lovely character has decided to do what's best for her and that is having the hip replacement. Granted, I haven't read any of the books in the series prior and I was still able to keep up and didn't get lost. So much deceit.
Great addition to series. She's finally gonna get her surgery. I enjoy Hali's relationship with Gray. They are great together. Looking forward to seeing where things go with Rusty. On to the next.
I absolutely love Hali and Gray and I can’t wait to see what their future holds for them. They have grown so much as a couple and I just love them. Loved it
I’m really enjoying this series. The characters are wonderful even the looser brother. The storyline line is fun and I like the idea of them building their own pack
Okay, I love everything written by Lily Harper Hart/Amanda M Lee. The mysteries are fun, the conversations are hilarious, the characters are heartwarming.
Book 6 has humor, angst, danger, crime, a new shifter on the grounds, and love. Gray's mom is interfering again and Hali makes a decision on surgery. Highly entertaining.
